This is the next part for Salvation and its my first time writing in Joseph's P.O.V and I am nervous AF about it.

The living room at Seed Ranch was quiet, except for the soft tick of a clock on the wall. Anxiously I glanced at that clock for the umpteenth time before turning my attention back to the radio before me. The silence from the device was what unnerved me the most. There had been no word of Tabitha arriving safely at Jessops Conservatory. Faith had also asked about her whereabouts before deciding to send out a search party. The mug of tea that John had set in front of me had since gone cold, remaining untouched. John remained close by should he be needed, silent, knowing his reassurance would fall on deaf ears.

The radio crackled, a fresh wave of anxiety washing over me before Faith's voice came through.

“Father…” she paused as if wondering how to break the news to me, “my angels…they found the supply convoy as well as the escorts that Tabitha was with this morning. But there's no sign of her. The supplies were taken, and I believe the culprits took Tabitha too.”

Dread filled me at the thought of those sinners taking my angel from me. My mind filled with awful images of all the unspeakable acts they’d perform on her, all the pain they’d inflict.

They’d torture her for information, use her to get to me. And when she had no use left to them they’d probably dispose of her, make her a martyr to our children, our flock. My blood boiled at the thought, the wrath I had worked so hard to repress had now bubbled to the surface.

“I...” I trailed off unsure what I should do first, “I need you here. Jacob too.”

“We’re on our way.”

Hi! Do you plan to include Peter, Harley, and/or Morgan in the aftermath verse? And if so (or if not and you don't mind indulging me) how do you think they would all get along and interact with the barton children?

Peter’s already been included in the background, at the beginning of Done and he was mentioned in The Swear Jar. (I recognize Homecoming as having mostly happened for the Aftermath verse’s purposes.)

I cannot speak about Morgan without spoilering any future plans I may or may not have. ;)

Harley and Peter... technically they’re all part of the younger kids’ gang in the first Missing Moments promptfic I wrote, some years into the future.

I may actually write about their first meeting, maybe.

James Buchanan Barnes: formerly the Winter Soldier, formerly Captain America’s right hand man, formerly a sergeant, formerly a dock worker, formerly Stevie’s best friend.... currently a glorified prisoner of Prince T’Challa.... had trouble wrapping his head around all those former selves. He spent too much time thinking about all the bits of him that he kept gluing back together to pretend he was a person anyone would want to keep. He spent even more time picking at the cracks, pointing the flaws out to himself. Only thing he did more than that was make sure no one else noticed how far he was from human.

So, James Buchanan Barnes, who didn’t know what to call himself, who didn’t know how to go forwards, agreed, and moved back into the tower where his best friend lived with a husband orphaned by the Winter Soldier.

Falling in love can be hard enough to deal with on its own. Falling in love when you are a recently-reintegrated superhero, who spent the past 70 years as a brainwashed HYDRA assassin, is a bit tricky. It gets trickier when the person you're in love with is a genius, billionaire, philanthropist, superhero. It's just messy when said person is Captain America's boyfriend.

But Bucky's handling things fine. He's fine.

They were only stupid stars that didn't do anything but feel cold.

By the time she's fifteen, she learns more about the marks, and the men they signify. Red Star wanders in and out of her life without seeming to remember her from one encounter to the next, and she's pretty sure White Star was lost decades ago. Soulmates, she decides, are useless flights of fantasy, because hers certainly aren't the supportive life partners all the stories say they're supposed to be.

But she's a grown-ass woman now, and it doesn't really matter if she wants them or not. It really doesn't matter if she's a loose cannon, and one is with SHIELD and the other with HYDRA.

They're hers and she's theirs.

And she really doesn't like it when people take her stuff.

It's not that surprising that Bucky no longer considers talking to be one of his strong suits. So why does he keep having to have difficult conversations? !!! Man! Tony/Bucky is strong in this fic, but also Steve is there and he is cute. Ive read some WinterIron fics with a similar plot, but the fact that this is Stuckony makes it 100% better.

Which is fine, obviously, except for it means that Steve and Bucky don't have his words, and it only takes him a few minutes to decide they don't need to know he has theirs. That's also totally and definitely fine, until he goes and falls in love with them.

So. Fuckin. Good! Soulmate au. Its a must read fanfic. For real. The pining and the angst. Gosh, Tony is the best fuckin person. He doesn’t deserve all this pain.

Gosh!! Another soulmate au. Me addicted in them? yes. This one hurts more. I think i really cried while reading it. But has a happy ending so its worth it!

Pretend You Don’t Know Me!  by Aknightofagoodking Teen, 16k Peter forgets that his class is taking a field trip to Stark Tower. Tomorrow. ["So you want us to pretend we don't know you that well?" Mister Stark asks, looking somewhat unhappy. "Yes! Exactly! Pretend I'm actually just an intern. Can you do that for me, please?"]

Ok, so this focus more on Peter. But Stuckony as Peter’s dad? Isn’t that just the best thing in the world? 

Scientific Heresy by Antigrav_vector Mature, 34k In the process of running the particle accelerator in his basement and fixing the arc reactor, Tony finds himself flung into the past where he has to take on a fight not his own if he wants to get home to stop Vanko. At least he had a chance to replace the old rector that had been killing him with the new one before everything went sideways... But now he has no choice but to face off with family, friends, and old heroes, and none of that sounds remotely appealing. Well, okay, getting to meet them all during their glory days kinda does.

AAAA Ok, I love time travel stories, so i might be biased a little, but this is the best!! There’s a lot of action scenes which are great and engaging. It’s a must read. 

That Damn Flight Suit by Orphan Account Explicit, 2k James and Steve make a very interesting discovery about what really is under the Iron Man suit. Cue awkward boners, oblivious Tony, and slightly possessive super-soldiers who really don't want to share his...assets... with the world.

I mean- It’s smut. 

The Sex Shop Around the Corner by sadieb798 Mature, 16k Tony really hates his job. When he tries to figure out what he wants to do next, Tony decides that instead of making weapons for war, he should make things for pleasure. So he decides he's going to open his own sex shop.

cmon, tell me this isn’t the best au out there. skdjfsdkfsn but for real tho, the fic is full of fluff, some pining and kind of a mis communication? perfect. 

The Shirt by Sailorchibi Explicit, 3k How an impulsive decision that Tony made at sixteen and an equally impulsive decision that Tony made at forty-three combined to have the best outcome ever.

Smut. Again. But its damn good as well.

The Stories We Write by Notevenclosetostraight Mature, 33k A question at an interview leads to Steve and Bucky discovering fan fiction, and after piles of coffeeshop au's and fake dating tropes (and screaming over ABO fics) they find an author that writes some of the best fics they've ever read-- reader inserts starring a dark haired, dark eyed male reader as their shared love interest.

2017 Year In Review

WIP Whenever!!!

Just a little something from Salvation. My first time writing in Joseph's P.O.V and I'm NERVOUS AF about it.

Whilst I didn’t want to assume the worst there was already a sinking feeling in my stomach. A sense that something was wrong. Turning my attention to the radio that sat on the wooden table to the left of John, I reached for the microphone and turned the dials until I found the desired channel.

“Angel?” I questioned.

I was met with silence, which didn’t help my growing nerves. I tried once more but there was still no response. I turned the dials of the radio once more to Faith's channel.

“Faith? Are you there Faith?” I asked softly.

There was static before her voice came over the speaker.

“Yes, Father,” she replied.

“Has there been any word from Tabitha? Has she arrived yet?”

“No, nothing. I was trying to reach her myself.”

My stomach sunk further, there was no denying something was wrong now. John set down his mug on the table, his blue eyes meeting mine.

i mean steve still did trade lives tbh. as in, he traded 100% death chance for vision for probably... less than 100 but still very existing chance of death for a lot of wakanda's natives. without listening to vision or wakanda's people.

Yeah, that’s.... going back to one of the key problems I have with Cap’s character. None of his shit gets addressed. He’s seemingly more in control of his temper tantrums, but is he really? 

Cap’s problem is that he thinks he knows best, and refuses to consider that he doesn’t even when he so very clearly doesn’t.

How are you feeling lately?

Positive, actually? It’s weird. I’m in therapy, I’m learning techniques to help add layers of insulation between “Thing Happening” and “Overwhelming Emotion”, I pass as a man most of the time when I’m out and about, and I haven’t had a completely sleepless night in weeks. New meds seem to be working, for what they’re worth. 

Next thing I work on is my procrastination. :) That’s still horrible.

Hokay. ::deep breath::

Aesthetically and cinematically speaking, I like Infinity War muuuuuuch better than I liked Civil War. I still have major issues with the meta vs. immersion problem that’s been ongoing since Age of Ultron, and my biggest problem — the lack of responsibility on the part of just about everyone — remains completely fucking unresolved. 

I don’t know if I was enraged so much as I was resigned to the fact that, as fucking amazing as Chris Evans is as Steve Rogers, the character himself is deeply flawed in ways that don’t get addressed at all. Maybe it’s a problem with having so many cooks in the kitchen, working on scripts and storylines, but I kinda wish Cap would ... stop flip-flopping on that exact topic when it suits him?

In a way, I suppose it can be treated a little like a character growth arc, evolution from Avengers to AIF, but he was still balancing one life against all others the last time we saw him in CACW, when he let his entire team get locked up so he and Bucky could make a break for it. Sure, it’s been two years since then.

Honestly, I’m more enraged at that scene right at the end with Peter. I was thoroughly enjoying the Dadpan Snarkers On A Space Trip With Their Son aesthetic Tony and Stephen had going, and then they fucking ruined it all.

M: Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share? N: Is there a fic you wish someone else would write (or finish) for you? S: Any fandom tropes you can’t resist? U: A pairing you might like to write for, but haven’t tried yet.

Premises to share: Oh, scads, son. Scads. I am currently working on updates to several fics, but also writing Gods of Asgard 1:1, in which our protagonist, Skuld Odinsdottir, finds herself dreaming of Nidavellir in that moment that Thor is opening the iris, and waking up to find it’s all been a horrible nightmare. Our protagonist is 6 at the time. 

Something for someone to write: I don’t know that I’d want anyone to write or finish something for me, but I know I definitely have my day made when I see fanart of my works. 

Tropes: Genderflip, poly, AU, making everything gay, long, dramatic. Deadpan Snarkers. 

Pairing: I am recently enamoured with StrangeIron. I think I may try it soon. :)

How did you find betas? How does one get themselves a beta and how do they work?

I kinda lucked into mine, in all honesty. I started posting snippets of fic to a couple friends, and soon enough had granted them access to the candy store, sharing my fanfic folder in Drive with them. If I’m honest, I don’t have betas. I have friends who pat me on the head and make suggestions in my GDocs, who I really should pay as therapists sometimes, and who never tell me to stop writing, omfg even when I should really not work on something new.

11. Describe your writing process from scratch to finish.

Oh sweet Jesus. Okay. I’ll give it a shot. Here’s my process for fanfic:

Step One - have an idea

Step Two - be very excited about said idea to any number of my handlers/BFFs/cat-herders/betas

Step Three - bitch and complain that none of my handlers/BFFs/cat-herders/betas are stopping me from writing a new thing

Step Four - write it with varying degrees of euphoria and despair, depending on what house the moon is passing through, how much caffeine I’ve had to drink and how deep in slept debt I’ve sunk.

Step Five - publish the chapter on AO3 and obsessively check every time my email alerts me that I have a new message. If AO3′s backed up, wallow in utter desolation because no one’s so much as commented or anything after an entire night.

Step Six - question every choice I’ve made in writing this thing, gnaw fingers down to nubs because feedback is a vacuum currently, finally check my AO3 dashboard near tears to see that, shit, a lot of people have commented, fucking AO3, okay, my existence has been validated. (I am serious; this happened to me with The Swear Jar.)

Step Seven - start planning sequel. Go back to Step One.

12. How do you deal with self-doubts?

Club them with a big stick, usually borrowed from one of my handlers/BFFs/cat-herders/betas. When I can’t trust my own head to tell me the truth, I ask my friends and trust that my friends are telling me the truth.

BONUS #13. How do you deal with writers block?

Check in with My People. Usually they’ll have a suggestion or two that might get things moving again. Otherwise, I work on something else that isn’t giving me trouble. 

31. Hardest character to write.

So far, Heimdall. Christ, he was rough. 

No, you know what, I take that back. Hydra Steve Rogers. I had about eight scenes planned for his point of view in Saturn Ascends, and I literally felt nauseated trying to write them, so I scrapped all but the most necessary to keep. 

32. Easiest character to write.

Anyone who’s snarky. Clint flows really well, and so does Tony/i. Bucky’s not that bad either.

47. Do you start with characters or plot when working on a new story? 

Depends on the story, but mostly, I start with a pairing or characters facing a situation. 

48. Favorite genre to write in.

I’m a horror, fantasy and sci-fi writer, so those ones, clearly. :)

Please & Thank You? : Winteriron Soulmate au (cause I am sucker for those) Any kind of soulmate au you want, but with the sentence prompt: "Holy shit, he's fucking gorgeous Stevie/Steve (you choose), I'd let him "handle" me any day of the week....Oh god, I said that out loud didn't I?" + the word: "dollface"

This has officially been in my Drafts folder for too long. Consider it a starter, but I didn’t forget you, @dreamcatchersdaughter. I promise I’ll finish it. Snippet! Working title: “It’s Handled”.

There’s no such thing as bring-your-brother-to-work day, but Bucky doesn’t let that deter him from going along with Steve to his first day with his new partner. Steve’s already enough of a wreck; between his sorry-ass love life and the recent loss of his partner, Carter, he’s dangling above the abyss on a thread. The last thing he needs is some gung-ho Air Force jackass to tip his ass over the edge. 

(Bucky knows there’s really nothing he can do if he doesn’t like Steve’s new partner, because he’s not technically SHIELD, just a consultant. But he can put on a mean, intimidating face when he’s properly motivated.)

Despite all of Bucky’s misgivings, he actually kinda likes Sam. He’s smart and cute, has a dry way of delivering witty one-liners, doesn’t seem to be too puffed up on himself, and doesn’t appear to be willing to take anyone’s shit. Bucky approves of all these traits. And judging from the flush on Steve’s face, and the stammer as he introduces himself, Steve approves of Sam too. 

“You old dog,” Bucky says later, as he drags Steve away for lunch. “Not even a day, and you’re making the moves. Go you.” He socks Steve on the shoulder, grins at Steve’s return scowl, and takes the return tap on the shoulder with aplomb. 

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Steve mutters, ducking his head into his protein-heavy chicken on chicken with brown rice lunch. 

“You say that, Stevie,” Bucky replies, unwrapping his footlong sub with relish, and takes a giant bite before continuing while chewing, “but once again, your dainty Irish skin gives you away. You were any redder, they’d hafta loan you out to Santa for foggy Christmas nights.”

Steve eyes him as he uses the side of his fork to cut off a chunk of chicken. “Jesus, Buck,” he says with distaste. “Close your damned mouth and chew and swallow before you speak. My mother would tan your hide if she caught you still doing that.”
