Slaashy you're so correct for this 🤣🤣
Dude's low income but never low in cum
He's the type of guy to complain about the price of canned meatloaf and m&m's, then begrudgingly drop the food into the shopping cart anyway.

could you expand more on ur thoughts of darry having a auditory processing disorder?
Yes. Yes I can.
so this is honestly entirely a personal HC and I mean if I looked hard enough I could find textual evidence but. I don’t know how much there is. This is just me being like what if my favorite guy had The Thing.
So my thoughts on him specifically with this
he has a hella hard time understanding people talking fast. Like. If you speak quickly to him he’s just gonna stare at you. He won’t tell you it’s too fast (result of the ultimate anxiety) he’ll just look at you until you ask what’s up. The whole gang knows to slow it down for him tho, so if he’s giving them a blank look they know why.
HOWEVER. He himself is a fast talker. Like APD a lot of the time includes talking slow but not him. He talks so fucking fast and then tries to look back on what he said and goes “what the fuck did I just say” like if he were yelling at Ponyboy for something and pony said “why would you say that” bro would genuinely have to think hard to figure out exactly what he said because he was talking too fast and he didn’t let his brain hold the words before letting them fly out and be lost for eternity.
if someone gives him directions or tells him something he needs to remember it He Will Not Remember. He absolutely does not retain verbal information. School was a bitch for this, and it makes him feel guilty that he doesn’t miss school at all because of it. If that sentence made sense give me a sign.
and ofc The Thing which I mentioned earlier.
Soda: Darry what’s for dinner?
Darry: What?
Soda: What’s for-
Darry: OH! hamburgers.
(I would like to note that I myself do/have a lot of these things but idk if it’s actually APD or not cause. Yeah. But a lot of this is taken from my google info of APD from when I was crazy in love with learning about like. What word would I use for this. Like hearing disorders? I was hyper focused on that research. And also it is taken from things I do myself. Because why not)
Edit yall can add with ur thoughts on this plz do

Okay so I found this picture of Pinterest and highkey. It has me CRYING. And let me tell you why!!!
Both Soda and Darry are compared to their dad in the book, and while I can't really recall at the moment if any of them were compared to their mother, I'm gonna go at the personal headcanon that Ponyboy was compared to her quite a lol in a similar way to Soda and Darry being compared to their dad. But see here- their mom is blonde. Soda in the book is blond, but I feel like it's an entirely different ballgame when Ponyboy bleaches his hair. When Darry and Soda reunite with him and after the pure joy and relief that he was alive...I just imagine a sense of unease. Seeing him with the blond hair- the comparisons to their mother hadn't completely clicked until then. It makes them feel...a lot of things. But above all, there is a harsh mixture of grief and love. For both their mother and Ponyboy.

“please, dar!” ponyboy pleads, hair messy from sleep with drool half dried on his chin.
darry sighs, shooting a glance at the snoring sodapop laid down on the sofa.
“pone..” his voice trails off as ponyboy groans, hands previously clasped together now dropping to his sides.
“when was the last time i asked for anything?” pony tilts his head, smirk twitching at the corners of his lips.
darry snorts, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees.
“let me see..” he pauses in mock thought, grinning. “last night, when you asked for lasagna for dinner. this morning, when you asked me to make you eggs.-“
ponyboy mutters something under his breath and stalks off back to his room, with darry’s voice lingering behind him as he continues to talk.
“do i need to go on? hey how about this afternoon when!-“
he can hear pony sigh, loudly, from the other room and leans back against the armchair with a sly smile. it’s fond, too. don’t forget fond.

Pony’s the biggest hater to Darry and the most needy to Darry at the same time.
“SHUT UPPPO LITERALLY NOBOYD CARES BRO 🤬🤬🤬🤬”
“Haha Darry…I need your help 🥺🥺”
“What. What do you want my help with right now pony, according to you o don’t love you enough to ever help.”
“Can you show me how to make a grilled cheese 🥺🥺☹️☹️🤗🤗🤗”
“No, ask someone else”
“YOU DONT LOVE ME😨😨😰😰💔💔💔🤬🤬☹️☹️☹️⛓️⛓️⛓️🖤🖤🖤🥀🥀🥀💔💔💔”
Then he started crying. Darry’s so sick of this hoarse
I always imagine that they go from having the most VIOLENT, FOUL, EVIL arguments to being best friends five minutes later
Yay

The whole “going soc” thing is taken from a few small lines of the musical, and I agree, I think we’ve really gotten away from the context of class divide. I’d loooove to hear your thoughts on the difference between “the only thing keeping him from being a soc is us” and “going soc”
It makes it seem like they’re in middle school treating it like a ‘cool kids club’ or a more formal thing than they are and it weirds me out a little bit.
It sort of diminishes Soc’s too to just being “popular” when they’re particularly socialites! They’re young but of the super rich variety, being popular doesn’t make you a Soc. Just as getting jumped or looked down on doesn’t make you a Greaser. It’s more than that!
Darry was popular in high school, he was well liked and had a bunch of friends. Even Paul. That was sort of the thing about him was he was really that guy™️ everyone liked, he got good grades, behaved and got along. That’s not soc behavior if anything that’s “middle class” behavior… that’s being some guy.
I can understand the context for “going soc” is likely emotionally charged but it feels like something that’d be easier for a soc to say someone’s “going greaser” or “slumming it” by dressing out or the norm or having a emotional outburst. And it makes sense as there’s a superficiality to them and the friend groups they form are conditional (not status asXYZ)
In contrast “the only thing keeping him from being a soc” is something that’s in reference to Darry’s nebulous future. That the gang— at least two bit— on some level all think they’re holding Darry back from getting out of poverty. Getting an education. A while collar job etc.
Now that isn’t exactly the case either, in the book and movie Collage is only ever a “could have”… something they couldn’t afford to send him to even with scholarships and if he found a way he’d still have to work through. It’s more the idea that he could have than a genuine actual chance of getting out. They don’t literally mean him being a Soc.
He’ll always be a greaser just like he’s always been a part of the gang/the leader. He’s a part of their friend group and a poor kid from the east/north side. (In that even if he hypothetically made it $ wise he’d still be a friend/family)
#I was going so strong and then my train of thought CRASHED#have a post up explaining socs and another on my ‘only thing’ line interpretation from way back#but I couldn’t find it unless it wasn’t one post but mentioned in many which is likely for me#the outsiders#outsiders#darry curtis#darrel curtis jr#greaser#soc#asks#thanks for the ask

Hiya Blue!!! Okay so Baulders Gate 3 has been my time sink of choice as of late, I wanna ask, If Darrell and/or Bright Eyes got teleported/isiakied to Faerûn, what classes would he/they be? Would he/they remain humans? Who would they want to make friends with or romance?
Cait!!! You have fed me well with lots of Baldur's Gate 3 content and I am never more grateful 💖
And lemme say this ask is fantastic. 👀 Darrell is like one main oc that i like to put in different situations like a little doll or actor 🤣
But to answer the question: 😗
If Darrell and Bright Eyes (cuz I like the idea of them being separate people) were ever teleported to the world of bg3, they'd both be Seldarine Drow rangers.
They work better in the dark, have hedonistic tendencies, and can have animal companions (as rangers) 😊
Anyway the vibes are just ✨️

Darry getting the TLC and hugs he deserves (which is a crap ton )
he deserves it all!
WC; 1,371 words
It wasn't a physical sickness he was feeling. Not at least to his knowledge. He'd checked his temperature multiple times, and heaved infront of the toilet, but nothing seemed to help treat the illness he felt plaguing his body.
That specific day was a Sunday, and fortunately, a day off both jobs. He took the spare time he planned to use to clean the house, to stay in bed as long as possible, all day even, if he could manage it.
His room had dirty clothes thrown carelessly all around, a muddy sock even held up by his bedside lamp, (he forgot to put on his shoes one morning, his ailment has been progressively gotten worse and worse until this point.) His small trash bin overfilled with old papers and wrappers from protein bars he'd scarf down before his stomach got too upset.
Dust could be seen floating around through the small crack in the blinds. Light shined in softly, telling Darry it was way past the hour he'd be up and at 'em already, but he didn't care.
Maybe if he stayed in bed long enough without a care in the world, his covers would just swallow him up whole, his feelings getting justified as it happens.
That thought reverberated in his head as everything went dark; his eyelids were too heavy to keep open.
...
"Pony? What're you doin' making the breakfast?"
"Darry's still asleep, I think. If I didn't do it, we'd starve."
Sodapop chuckled as he snuck up behind his brother, taking a peak of how he started the sunny-side up eggs alongside the bacon for Darry's sandwich. Soda had just gotten out of his bed, too afraid to check how bad his bed hair was, but none of the guys stayed over the night, which gave him a couple more minutes before he'd have to look presentable for an audience.
Ponyboy on the other hand, was already in a clean shirt and jeans, his hair nicely slicked back with grease. His hair was getting real long, to the point that Sodapop considered teasing him about it.
"Wake him up, would ya? He'd be all pissy if he let himself sleep so long.. that, and he wouldn't want to eat all this cold, now would he?"
With a shake of his head at his younger brother's colorful vocabulary, Sodapop followed his orders, and headed to Darry's room.
What hit him first was how dark it was in there, and when he flipped the switch on, Darry yelled at him to turn it off.
"Cripes! Why'd you have to go and do that for?" The older man whined, lazily pulling an arm over his eyes to block out the blinding light.
Another click went by without a word from Soda, and he neared Darry's bed. He had to step over random shirts and objects on the floor to avoid slipping and snapping his neck. Since when was his older brother so messy? He hadn't entered the room for a week, and it'd become a downright pigsty in that short amount of time!
Then, he was right above his brother, who by then had moved his arm off his face, and was staring off into space. Eerily similarly to Ponyboy, but it happened much quicker than his did.
"Darry.. do you feel alright?" His hands reached out to feel his forehead almost instantly, but pulled away once he noticed Darry had no fever of the sort, despite the sick look he had on his face. Eye-bags hung below his dull blue eyes, his hair was greasy from being unwashed, and his lips were chapped as if he was a dehydrated man stranded in the desert.
No response.
But what he didn't know, was that Darry could hear him, but it was all noise. Maybe he should've known what the words meant, he should've; but they didn't make a single lick of sense in his head. He made the conscious decision not to respond, how could he? His throat was scratchy and he doubted anything that would come out of his mouth would make sense.
Sensing it was a pointless game to try and get anything out of his older brother, Sodapop went back to the kitchen, quite frankly shocked. The silence following the footsteps scared Ponyboy, so he looked up, watching as Sodapop threw himself onto a chair by the table.
"What's the matter with you?"
"Darry."
The younger boy didn't push. Just waited, letting his older brother collect his thoughts and form them into words. (something Darry often didn't let him do)
"He's sick or somethin'. He's acting real funny Pony." He bit his tongue, refusing to let the "real funny like you" slip from in between his teeth.
Ponyboy let the words sink in as he assembled the sandwich for the very brother they were talking about. He wasn't going to let his efforts go to vain.
"Let's go pay him a visit then." He held up the plated breakfast, and strolled over to the closed room, his own food long forgotten. Sodapop was right behind him, thermometer in his hand, with a fear that he guessed wrong and he really did have a fever.
The handle creaked as Pony pressed it down, Darry refused to fix it, deeming his room as something he could leave to rot, but the rest of the house had to be squeaky clean. That was very evident as both of the brothers looked around the room, really taking in how dirty it all was. It wasn't a word that would be associated with Darry often.
A low sigh could be heard from the eldest Curtis and the other two came up to his bed, Sodapop sitting by his legs and Ponyboy standing towering above his face, plate in hand.
"The breads toasted!" He handed it over to his brother, but when he made no move to grab it, Ponyboy set it down on his nightstand, narrowly missing placing it on his watch.
"Darry, what's wrong?"
"Yeah, is there something up?"
Tears prickled at his eyes as his eyes darted from one brother to the other, as he suddenly felt overwhelmed. (It wasn't sudden, but he'd been able to ignore it before then.)
His brothers, both concerned, climbed up into the bed, squishing him in between them both. He felt cornered, choked, it was like brain went short circuit as he once again heard the noise, which he had to imagine was his brothers asking him what was wrong, once again.
"I don't know!" He garbled out, but to his amazement, his brothers understood. He wanted them off, to leave him, let him wallow in his misery.
But they didn't do any of that.
Instead, arms reached from both sides, one pair hugging his bicep, and another squeezed his entire body.
He wanted to tell them to knock it off, maybe knock their heads together too while he's at it, but he couldn't. Then, he noticed that the ache that had been persistent throughout his body for days now, seemed a little less.
His own arms brought free from the hold he was in, and wrapped them around the two bodies around him.
Warmth, coming to him when he thought he'd never have it again.
Brothers, who didn't have a single clue of how much this meant to him. (They knew. Of course they did.)
Tears spilled over, rolling down his face as he kept the last of his family in his arms. This action once being to keep them from harm, now kept him grounded. They were safe, that was his duty. Why is he trying to give it all up when they're still here, needing guidance and protection?
He could feel himself succumb to his exhaustion, but for the first time in months, he knew he'd wake up well rested.
..
Under his arms, he felt the rise of Darry's chest even out from his earlier erratic breathing, until it steady. He should've let go, and eat his breakfast that was waiting on the table, but he didn't. He had to stay, and Ponyboy seemed to think the exact same thing.
So they did just that,
falling asleep mere minutes after Darry.

Since I’ve been lurking real deep in the Outsiders fandom lately I figured I’d share what I honestly consider my magnum opus of the last four months since I listened to the musical: a stupidly-giant mostly-accurate spreadsheet detailing what I’ve pieced together to be how old pretty much all the characters are during the plot of the book (and That was Then, This is Now because I got so hyped over Pony being in that book I had to include it), as well as what grades they would’ve been in during what (school) year (so like from September—June of a given year).
Occasionally I’ll see people bring up the age old argument of who’s the oldest/youngest of the gang, and what grade is Ponyboy supposed to be in during the plot of the book, and sometimes I see you guys talking like Darry would’ve been in school with Soda, and like you’re not entirely wrong because it’s all up to interpretation, and he could’ve been at high school with him for a year, but personally I think I could go on for a million years about Sodapop Curtis and school alone, and I’m not going to get into fights over that, but with all the little details about the book that are given to us, that’s not really possible and—whatever. And like how Ponyboy is actually the age he should be in freshman year, because everyone in his grade after being pushed up who has a late birthday would’ve just turned/would be turning 14 in freshman year, but I digress. Not the point here.
The point is, I spent eight hours about a month ago piecing this all together over the span of like three days, and I wanted to share it. I guess it’s important to note that I had to make up some birthdays that I couldn’t find mostly-confirmed somewhere online (someone PLEASE tell me how old Angela Shepard is because she’s the only one I couldn’t find an agreed-upon age for), and that I don’t live A) in or anywhere near Oklahoma or B) in the 1950s/60s, so I took a lot of liberties with when they would’ve started school and whatnot and some of that is based on personal headcanon, like the Curtises having Pony start school a year late because Soda struggled so much in kindergarten and beyond and Pony also had a late birthday and they got worried so they kept him home an extra year.
Basically please just be nice to me about this and please I’m begging you give a poor girl with a brand new teaching certification a reason to talk about how her favorite characters got through school and whatnot I could talk about this for hours clearly thanks and goodbye.
**Also please note this timeline is based on the musical taking place in 1967, but I believe the book takes place in 1965 and I was going by that version of events anyway, so if you’re using this as a reference (which is what it’s meant to be for those who need/want one), you can just subtract two years from everything I guess. It’s all up to interpretation and I’m not saying that everyone needs to agree with this and I don’t WANT everyone to agree with this, I just figured I’d share it for fun, so go nuts.**
