the thing with racism in supernatural is that you can look at any aspect of the show and you WILL find something racist. whether in-universe (where you can additionally differ with hunter culture, monsters+lore, fetishisation), writing, casting, production.
like only scratching the surface of the anti black racism with the casting is like:
90% of black supernatural characters are antagonists with insane potential who got killed off (or ignored in raphaels case) the second they finished an amazing build-up for a character arc (gordon, jake s2, henriksen, uriel, raphael, the vampire alpha)
5% of black supernatural characters are 1-episode side characters or minor characters that had about 2% of their potential used (rufus, missouri, the hunter couple)
last 5% of black supernatural characters had 1-2 scenes where they functioned either 1. as hoodoo/voodoo plot device (playthings, crossroad blues) or 2. random demon (also antagonists)
and this is with black spn characters making up like. 5% of all spn characters

I despise any narrative that positions social progressivism as a western concept. why is every immigrant narrative about escaping from the terrible inherent conservatism of the backwards culture your family comes from and being saved by america's unique progressivism. just this disgusting pinkwashing that is exactly the same as any other narrative claiming that the west invented civilization and all those third world barbarians are only just now beginning to learn it from them. america's enemies do not have a monopoly on social conservatism. white people did not invent queer acceptance or anything else of value. death to america idk

A cosplayer I'm friends with on Instagram often vagueposts on his stories with complaints about other fans cosplaying Meenah or Damara on account of it being racist to do so. (None of the cosplayers in question had done any... questionable makeup choices of any sort, they just had the usual light gray body paint approximating canon. The friend in question is white himself, as am I.) Do you think there's a genuine issue with people cosplaying characters like those ones?
I'm genuinely curious on your insights; I came to your blog for this since I find your posts both about the alpha trolls and the racism especially with them, but also in Homestuck overall, to be very well written. If this feels too much like discourse to you, you're free to delete it. (You askbox rules made me a bit nervous ^^)
This is a loaded question, which I am getting the sense is... A controversial one, and I do not feel equipped to give a solid yes or no answer on this as someone who is not a cosplayer and doesn't really know anything about the scene.
However, I do have to ask... Why specifically Damara and Meenah? There's an infinite amount of characters who are white, even within Homestuck. Why specifically dress up as characters who are without a single doubt not white? That is tacky to me. This isn't even an anime situation where it doesn't really matter until people start pinning their eyes back, Meenah and Damara - Damara especially - are depicted in a way that is straight up racist, and also some of the few characters in the comic who are just straight up not white. Like, you have other options. Most of the characters in the comic are white. Why them?

Weirdly enough, Ray has a human form as well!
Tumblr media
Lore under the read more.
Ray was born as his fox form after being created from Dr. Akira Watanabe's DNA and the genes of a female Vulpine, an ancient race of fox people who existed before human civilization began.
This created a hybrid who had some human genes leftover that didn't really express themselves.
After Ray meets Roman and gets to know him and his skills better, Ray asks Roman to use his Genetifyer device to give him a human form, just like Roman.
Roman is reluctant at first, but he eventually caves and uses the Genetifyer to "exaggerate" the human genes in Ray so that he develops an alternate human form he can transform into. Calling himself Ray Jones and denoting himself as an Asian American, he now has a form to disguise himself. But for what purpose, you may be wondering?
To join The Council, in the hopes that he can get Roman's inventions patented without them knowing that it's from him.
--------
I'm tired of the lame gray coats. I'll probably switch to the white lab coats.

finished watching netflix atla! i think the hate is unjustified lol like all that hate seems a little too intense for what i think the show missed. it didn't hit all the same notes as the original show, yeah, so i'm not sure it quite succeeds as an adaptation, but as a standalone show it's pretty good. and i might have some gripes with the characterization, but there was love in the casting and in the costumes and the world, and that goes a long way for me.

I want to write a novel with a largely POC cast, and I'm looking for opinions and feedback before writing the first draft.
The main poc identities that I'm looking for feedback and input on are:
Native American/Indigenous Americans
Black Americans
Japanese Americans (or immigrants to America)
Muslim Americans or Muslims who live in America, especially of Middle Eastern ancestry
If you aren't part of these cultures but still want to see your culture represented, I want to hear it. There may or may not be space for a character in the draft, but I will write down anything you say for future works too.
I want to write a. urban fantasy novel about queer werewolves and fae (with a diverse cast of both supernatural and human characters) but as a half-white, half-Latina author living in the USA I want some input on what you as a POC person would like to see more or less of in fiction. I want to hear about your culture and the type of characteristics that you do or definitely DO NOT want to see in a fictional character. I'm apprehensive about giving animalistic traits (because werewolves) to POC characters since in the USA there is a long history of propaganda giving such traits to people of color to dehumanize them, so I would like to primarily discuss what exactly I'm thinking for that and why, and if you're okay with the way I want to write it, if you want to set some boundaries, or if it's a hard no.
I mainly use DMs on Tumblr, but I also use Twitter DMs and I made a Discord account specifically for this. Mind you, I don't know how to use Discord so you'll probably need to explain it to me first. Thank you!

@h0t-p1nk-ch33tah-pr1nt the Nonbinary Necromancer is beating up your guy in the comics 😭 he looks like the spirits are giving him a tummy ache😭 also the girl kicking the dude is a Singaporean teen like me Haha hello. And they also have a horse girl whose dreams came true she has a telepathic bond with her fire horse or something. Idk what they're doing with Marvel these days but the teen heroes are getting more obscure and silly😭

Today’s Asian character is Jake Long from American Dragon: Jake Long!
He is Chinese-American.

(I personally didn’t watch the show but through first impressions I like how they used Chinese culture here! Good stuff)
