Just watched the new ca movie (illegally of course!) and overall… meh. I did have low expectations and it was about what I expected. But on the other hand now is a good time to say I LOVE JOAQUIN TORRES SO MUCH. Like I loved him in fatws but he got so much more screen time in this movie and the relationship between him and Sam was so lovely. Also Sam is one of my favorite characters in the mcu so getting to see him front and center even if I found the plot lackluster as a whole was a pleasure

I’m reading such a dark and sad fic and the chapter titles being the most unserious things ever is so funny to me. Like “im in me mums car broom broom” is describing the chapter where the character’s mom is about to DIE

Everyone always talks about “how will Darry feel reading Ponyboy’s theme? When he reads all those awful things Pony thought about him in the beginning?”

Guys, Darry would not be surprised in the slightest. Ponyboy is not exactly subtle with his complaints. He’s an angsty 14 year old who lashes out at people all the time. None of this would be new information to Darry.

Ponyboy nervously hovering nearby when Darry finishes reading, “um, so, that stuff I wrote about you - I guess that musta been hard to read………”

And Darry’s just like, “you realize you’ve said every single one of these things to me out loud, right?”

(If anything, the only shocking parts for Darry would be the positive, loving things, like Pony’s hospital reunion epiphany, because that’s the stuff Pony hasn’t figured out how to say out loud to Darry. Which makes Pony realize he only tells Darry the bad stuff and not the good…….kind of like what he always accuses Darry of doing. Hmm…..)

My two cents is focus less on the actual fighting and more why it’s important.

First how does it affect the character. There is the immediate are they in pain? Where does it hurt? How bad does it hurt? Describe that. And also how does it affect them emotionally. Are they getting a high off the fighting? Or are they having to hurt someone they love dearly?

Second I’d ask myself how it affects the rest of the plot? What would winning this fight mean for the character whose pov it is? What seperate writing from movies and stage is that we are hearing someone’s perspective. Even third person still has a narrator. So use that. Emphasize the stakes and how we got to where we are now.

Cherry Valance was Marcia’s first kiss. They were sitting in Cherry’s pastel wonderland of a bedroom, on her giant blanket that reminded Marcia of a wedding cake, when it happened. They wanted to know why adults like to kiss so much. But Marcia knew she was in love with Cherry long before. Back when she was still Sherri and Marcia had a hole in her mouth, some part of her brain knew that the redhead was it for her.

Her only hope was that she could ride out the relationship until college when she’d finally break free of the shackles from their tiny town. She’d since given up the idea of flying away with Cherry. But a small part of her heart still held out the hope that Cherry could be hers, especially with how her and Bob’s relationship seemed to be on the decline the summer of their junior year.

His drinking had gotten much worse, being one of his main ways he handled the stress of growing up and preparing for college. Marcia thought it was disgusting how he’d openly get intoxicated after promising the day to Cherry, especially because he knew what Cherry’s father was like.

“I don’t want to become my mom,” Cherry admitted, one night. She’d been awfully quiet since arriving at Marcia’s for a sleepover and it didn’t take a genius to guess it was related to Bob. Her father evoked tears out of the girl. But when it came to Bob, Cherry tended to retreat inwards as if to hide herself in the darkest corner from the world seeing how she’s truly feeling. Whenever she did that, Marcia was the only one who knew how to pull her back into the light.

“You won’t,” Marcia tried to promise as she wrapped the redhead in her fluffy comforter that reminded her of being hugged by a puppy. Cherry allowed herself to be coddled in Marcia’s embrace, shrinking her normally tall stature small enough to fit.

Marcia tucked a strand of red hair behind Cherry’s pale ear and took in her somber expression. It pained her to see her beautiful friend so broken. In moments like these, she often wondered, if circumstances were different, would it have helped Cherry to know someone else loved her the way a boyfriend was supposed to? That Bob didn’t have to be it for her? Could a kiss show Cherry that for as long as Marcia was allowed in her life, she’d never be lonely enough to become like her mother?
