#2301 - Orocrambus vittellus - Common Grass Moth
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A Crambid endemic to most of New Zealand, first described by English entomologist and ornithologist Henry Doubleday in 1843. He was also the author of the first catalogue of British butterflies and moths, Synonymic List of the British Lepidoptera (1847–1850), and other species named by him include the pigmy footman, Ashworth's rustic and the marsh oblique-barred.
There's roughly 50 other Orocrambus species, all native to New Zealand. This one is most common in grasslands, where the larvae feed on Agrostis tenuis and probably other grasses.
Horopito, North Island Volcanic Plateau, New Zealand

Heyo, it's What If Anon, here with some moth based alternative names for Vaggie!
Ash: Based on the ashworth's rustic moth, and fits her color pallette.
Dot: Based on the dot moth, give her a polka dot skirt and it'd be adorable.
Rosy: Based on the rosy underwing moth, fits her well, especially with her red ribbon.
Barberry: Based on the barberry carpet moth, which could've been an actually subtle sex pun name. Also Charlie could call her my sweet berry <3
This has been moth based alternative names for Vaggie!
Ooh, I like Ash! Is suits her!

Finally! Made the references for Sula and Ashworth! Well, it's not proper refs, but it's a good start!
Sula is, of course, based on a Sulawesi Moon moth. Ashworth, however, is based off of pink spirit moths, not Ashworth's Rustic! Despite being pastel colours, I think she'll like somewhat gothic things.

Scythe Characters as moths!!
Two of my special interest ROLLED INTO ONE!!
Citra! Little Emerald Moth!
Tumblr media
The adults fly at dusk and are attracted to light. The caterpillars can be found from June to early October before overwintering as green pupae.
Rowan! Chimney Sweeper Moth!
Tumblr media
This distinctive moth has sometimes been mistaken for the Small Blue butterfly. It rarely varies in colour but may become browner with wear. This moth is usually very active by day, especially in sunshine.
Scythe Curie! Purple-bordered Gold Moth!
Tumblr media
This brightly coloured small moth is most frequently pink with yellow patches and margins, and a fine purple border. However, almost entirely pink individuals with small yellow spots can occur.
Scythe Faraday! Black-veined Moth!
Tumblr media
This rather common species can be found throughout Europe. It is quite rare in the United Kingdom. Flies from dusk and comes to light.
Greyson! Ashworth’s Rustic Moth!
Tumblr media
A medium-sized silvery grey moth which frequents mountain and moorland areas with rocky outcrops. The moth is nocturnal and is attracted to light traps, sometimes in large numbers.
Jerico! Hornet Moth!
Tumblr media
The hornet moth is a large moth native to Europe and the Middle East and has been introduced to North America. Its protective coloration is an example of Batesian mimicry, as its similarity to a hornet makes it unappealing to predators.
