I've mentioned this before but even now I still believe Ashley isn't attracted to Andrew at all. If anything after seeing the playthrough she seems. Sex repulsed.

Andrew is the one that's sexually attracted to her and like he said, she's very perceptive. She doesn't start being sexual with Andrew until he gets a girlfriend because that's the one thing a girlfriend can give him that she can't. But if it wasn't for Andrew she seems so repulsed by it. She's disgusted that men only want sex, even more so that Andrew wants it and would betray her by seeing someone just for that. When that boy tries to go on a date with her Andrew's first thought is that she's so desperate for love she'd let a man fuck her but ashley doesn't even go. She seems uncomfortable. Scared even. And when she gets the job at the massage parlor she's clearly disgusted and Renee thinks she's doing it to get back at her. And she might be cause when she's younger we see she acts out so that her mother will acknowledge her in some way, but also because no other job is willing to take her. And at this point in her life she feels that the only person who loves her discarded her because of her lack of sexual value, so she thinks that's the only thing she has. She hates the job, but if they hired her she must be worth that in some way. And as angry as she is with Andrew, She's happy that he at least cared enough to fight with her about it. Cause he's the only one in her family that does.

Even in scenes where she reciprocates that affection, I notice she only does that when Andrew initiates. Especially in the demon realm. Like andrew is extremely affectionate here compared to how restrained he was in the human realm cause he knows no one is watching. It's always him that starts. She's a little confused/hesitant/surprised, and then she returns it. The only other times I can remember her sexually initiating is when she feels threatened in some way.

The worst instance of this is what she does when she imprisons him and Julia helps him free. He's gets his closure with Julia and gives her a proper good bye, and while he doesn't really feel any real hurt that she's gone the immediate next thing he thinks is "God damn I should have talked her into fucking me before she left". And when he comes back ashley is furious and terrified and of course accuses him of sleeping with Julia. He doesn't, but she knows him well enough to know that's what's on his mind. I can't remember if this is the route where he beats the shit out of her. But I do know that she has sex with him while he's drunk and she's persistent and keeps telling him she wants him to fuck her. This is rape. Like there's no question about it. Andrew is drunk and he keeps telling her is they do have sex he doesn't want it to be like this but she keeps persisting. So he gives in. It's sexual assault and I'm not defending it. But even then ashley isn't wet at all. I think it even hurts her. She's doing this out of desperation cause she's frantic and terrified. She doesn't enjoy it. But it's a means to an end to make him stay cause she was so close to losing him.

And in the route where they decide to live as a couple, they hate each other. They have sex often sure but ashley often hurts him by scratching him and stuff and Andrew knows she's doing it to hurt him but they both pretend it's a kink thing. They despise each other and both keep using sex as a bandaid solution to something the other doesn't want. And with how violent Andrew's sexual fantasies as with Julia [yknow someone he used in place of ashley] I can only imagine that ashley doing that to him is reciprocal to what he does to her during sex.

It's hard to watch because it's two people doing what they think the other wants when neither wants it. Not like this anyway.

But yeah long story short Ashley isn't sexually attracted to Andrew sex is still just a means to an end for her.

ashley being a girl is so important to me it's not even funny.

i think she has become a sort of comfort character for me. her being so wrong, so flawed, so evil gives me a sense of catharsis many other characters failed to replicate.

through her dialogue, her personality, her character... she feels like the horrors of being a woman incarnate. wether people choose to acknowledge it or not, because society expects different things from boys and girls, they're treated differently when they differ from the standards imposed on them. that's why i think ashley's impact would be very different if she were a man, hell, it would probably be a very different story, with a whole new character.

she is the one who cleans the house and cooks, despite andrew being the parentified sibling. she is the one who is insecure about her appearance and sees sex as a transaction. she is the one who has bursting, explosive emotions that tend to be dismissed. she is the one who can't help feeling competitive over other women. she is a nightmare, and instills nightmares on others, all while being our unladylike girl with awesome fat tits.

i was raised as a girl, and grew up autistic. it wasn't great. and although my past differs from ashley's, when i see her i think to myself, "she gets it."

i see a lot of trans girlies finding comfort in ashley too. bpd girlies. girls who were othered. maybe we want the sense of freedom to feel anger about past experiences. maybe she is just a healthy(?) way to deal with the inherent darkness(tm). i'm not entirely sure. but i think there are many reasons women can connect with ashley.

i mean, outside of tumblr she was hated and very few even bothered to look at things from her perspective. and maybe i am ignorant, but as far as i know, the majority of the fanbase outside tumblr is (very) normie men.

Also there's alot of casual misogyny in this chapter. The grandfather kepts saying women should be quieter and passive, obviously calling Renee a whore for having a child at 15. The surgeon only addressing Douglas when talking to Him and Renee even though Renee was doing most of the talking. I think he even made a comment about his wife talking out of turn (which Douglas ofc defends his wife). Andrew fantasizing out beating Julia's teeth in when she doesn't give him head properly. I know this isn't blatant misogyny but Julia being hesitant about having sex with Andrew cause she's scared that God's watching. Ashley using the word whore/slut more often instead of hussy/floozy like she usually does. (It's interesting that it's directed more at Andrew this chapter instead of julia but then again julia isnt really a threat anymore so).

Okay, so can we talk about No Good Noelle for a second. This game wasn't explicit or detailed as Tcoaal, obviously, but I feel like its endings were headed in a similar direction

We were given two choices, which led us to two contrasting endings.

Pretty similar to the decay and burial route.

In No Good Noelle

With the Ivy Route

If we choose to stay with her "best friend," no progress will be made in her life. She'll continue living in her shadows, working under her to make snowballs. Nothings new

She's literally good for nothing and remains the same. The entire narrative is basically what the title was all about.

She was given a choice

She could've gone with Yule

She could've made a change

But she chose to remain the same

Now, if we compare it with the Coffin of Andy and Leyley

There are two branches for this one as well. One will lead us to a brighter ending with questionable choices, and the other one will bring a closure to the story.

The coffin of Andy and Leyley

Basically them dying together

Again, nothing is new. It was already known from the start. They were simply following the title in a straight line.

It's like one step forward two steps behind

Basically, it brings us to the light that whatever we did in the game just gets thrown to waste in the end.

The progress we could've made with those little teasing moments and a hint of a new future gets shunned away, which is depressing

So, what I'm trying to say is that we are either basically doing something for a change or making zero progress what so ever

Either way, we got a glimpse of their story

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that there's a wrong choice.

One is just perfectly depicting their titles.

Noelle really proving that she's a no-good noelle,

and the decay ending really closing the tale of The coffin of andy and leyley

But the burial and yule route, both of them are chaotic, both of them emphasis on exploring another outcome

This time, all the interactions didn't go to waste

The choices led up to a change in the cycle. We broke out of it, and this new ending is progress in its twisted way.

It proves the title wrong, at least in some way

So now we can look at it from a metaphorical perspective

Noelle is still the same. She still can't make highly professional snowflakes, but when she teamed up with yule, she got out of the miserable life she was in. She refused to succumb under her mother or her best friend.

She refused to follow the regulations and cheat. She chose to be deceitful instead

Pretty similar to Ashley and Andrew not following the regulations of the society and burying their old selves figuratively.

This goes for the questionable route

Cause this is them growing as their own person instead of trying to fit in and following what's supposed to be right.

Denoting that the twisted path is actually the happiest one for the characters

Also, it's mind-blowing how well the titles fit both the routes. No good, noelle can also denote that she's bad. A warning sign that she might not be as nice as she seems after all. 'Oh, she is up to no good.' The same can apply for The coffin of andy and leyley, like I mentioned before.

Ok, here's a bit of a Wing AU for RE4 Remake I had in my head. Usually when I enter a fandom I write a wing fic, because I love them. And when I heard their little code names I couldn't resist, I had to take them literally. But then I got too invested in writing You Pay the Cost and let this idea slide in the back of my mind. I'm not writing two retellings of RE4 hahaha. For visualization, the people in this world have feathered wings in the many various shapes and sizes of bird wings. They also have bird feet and legs, with feathers that go down to the knee or sometimes all the way down to the foot. Some people have talons others just normal claws. Everyone has tails as well. Hands are clawed but most people keep them filed down. Feathers go up the neck and across the shoulders and chest, down the back to the tail. I won't go into the endless world building, but I can assure you, I already went overboard, I've done this before for my Fallout 4 Wing AU. Leon has large, soaring type wings, think osprey in design, with his feathers being a mix of dark and cream, with dark banding. He excels in aerial dives but can't do quick maneuvers easily. He also sports a wide tail. Ashley has massive passive soaring type wings. Think birds of prey like eagles. They are a dark brown with gold banding, and reddish brown coverts. Her scapulars are also a reddish brown. Like her wings, her tail is massive and provides a lot of lift. She's quick in the sky and can sit on thermals all day long if she wants. I technically have designs for everyone, but only Leon and Ash are in this scene so... Fic bit under the cut. It's raw and unedited, because again, this is an abandoned project. But hey, why let it rot in my word doc?

Leon tensed at the church window. Ashley beside him stiffened. “What’s that?” She pointed towards the growing glow at the end of the graveyard.

“They found us,” Leon replied. “Shit.” He looked around the upper floor they were in. Going out the way he came in would mean a fight head on. He flexed his foot claws and reflexively checked his gun. It was an option, but not one he wanted to pursue. “Is there another way out of here?”

“What? I, I don’t know? Maybe? They didn’t allow me to move around much.”

Leon paced once, twice, then stopped. “There’s got to be a flight deck, even on a building this old.” His eyes searched for a staircase, or a doorway that could lead up to one. He starting to formulate a plan. “We find that then we’re home free.” In the corner of the room there was a ladder. “Bingo.” He started for it after another glance out the window confirmed the mob was heading their way. They’d be at the doors any second. Leon turned his attention back to Ashley. “It’s raining pretty hard out there, how’s your storm flying?”

“I’m a state champion in aerial track,” Ashley replied without hesitation. “My flying is perfect. Or,” she felt her confidence deflate. “Well, it would be but uh, Leon?”

Now that they were out in the open, he caught sight of her wings for the first time in the candle light. She spread them wide even though he glimpsed enough in their folded position. Ashley had truly massive wings, they were broad, a dark brown with golden banding, they almost shimmered in the dull light. Her coverts were a lighter color, almost reddish, but it was hard to tell. What wasn’t hard to tell were her missing flights. “They clipped you.”

She nodded. “Right after they shoved me into the van. It was the first thing they did.” She pulled one of her wings toward her body and nervously ran her fingers through the remains of her flights. Ten pin stubs remained under her coverts. “They clipped half my secondaries too, I’m assuming they didn’t want to take any chances. I’m sure I can glide down, but it won’t be pretty.”

Leon shook his head. “No, too risky, with your secondaries trimmed like that… and in this wind… you’ll just plummet.” New plan then. He grabbed her arm and started to pull her towards the ladder anyways. Just as they reached it the double doors below them burst open. They could hear voices, commands in Spanish that Leon didn’t have time or energy to translate. With a quick hop and flap his hand reached the bottom of the ladder and pulled himself up.

He found himself in a pitch-black attic, lighting strikes illuminated portions of it, it seemed empty, just a few storage crates. He turned around and lowered the ladder just enough for Ashley to grab onto. Then he hauled it and her up. “We’ll be safer up here,” he said. “Not for long, but enough for me to figure out what to do next.”

Ashley left his side to cautiously explore the space. It didn’t take her long to find the remnants of a flight deck. It was in a state of decay that matched the rest of the village. It seems the people here didn’t fly much anymore. When she stepped onto it the wood groaned and swayed beneath her feet. She shivered and stepped back into the safety of the attic. “Found the deck,” she said. Leon didn’t respond and when she turned to look back at him he had his hand up to one ear. He was talking but she couldn’t make out what he was saying.

Leon met her eyes and strode over. “I can’t carry you,” he said to state the obvious. “Maybe on a clear day, but not in this storm.” He stepped out onto the deck and felt it move under his feet. It would do. “I talked to Roost, uh, base. I informed them of your… situation. They’re going to send a helicopter for evac, but they need a break in the storm before that’s possible. Roost will send coordinates for the extraction point shortly. We’ll make our way there, hunker down, and wait.”

“That sounds good and all, but… what about the angry mob outside?” She could hear their voices getting louder. It sent shivers up her spine and her feathers prickled with unease. “They’ll figure out we’re up here.”

“I was hoping we could sneak around them, but I’ll fight if I have to.” He looked down to the ground below, they weren’t that high up, forty feet max. He spread his own wings and felt them catch on the wind. “I’ll go down first, then you follow. I catch you.”

She laughed at that, despite herself. “Really? You’ll catch me?” He was strong, that much was clear, his shirt clung tightly to his frame and she could see a good deal of muscle. If he really was an agent sent by her father then she’d expect nothing less. He had broad shoulders and strong chest muscles. But she wasn’t tiny by any means. “Thanks but no. I’ll make my way down. Even clipped my wings are too large to fold up in a way that would allow you to catch me.”

Leon didn’t want to argue, and she had a point. Instead he spread his own wings wide and launched himself from the deck. He didn’t use any of the runway, he didn’t need to, the wind was strong enough to practically yank his wings off his back. He did one quick loop around the church, he hoped his dark wings and clothes would hide him against any eyes trained skyward. The storm was swelling, the wind tried its best to knock him around. He pulled his wings in a bit and angled towards the ground. Even if Ashley could fly he might still reconsider taking their escape by air. He flared his tail and pulled out of the dive, his wings coming forward in two strong, silent beats that set him on the slick muddy ground. He motioned for Ashley to follow suit.

She walked out onto the deck and curled her foot claws around the soggy wood. She opened her brutalized wings and felt a pang of anxiety at the way the wind failed to play off of them. It was like someone had cut her fingers off. She knew that they were broad enough to catch some air, she wouldn’t fall straight down. She fanned her tail out as wide as it could go. “Well,” she said to herself, “here goes.” Then she jumped.

What she didn’t couldn’t be called flying, but it wasn’t falling either. Her instincts told her to spread out primaries she didn’t have, to feel the wind between their tips, but there was nothing to catch the open air and she started to descend. She had been through stall training before, like anyone who decided to be a flyer. And her training was good, they didn’t let just anyone fly cross country. But stalling without flights was something she had never done before. She pulled up beat her wings repeatedly. Normally she’d try to glide, but she wasn’t getting any lift without her secondaries. The strain on her back was instant as she churned air. She tucked her legs up to her chest and flared her tail.

Leon watched as she made her controlled fall. He was impressed at how she handled herself in the air. She wasn’t lying when she said could handle bad weather. Even he’d be nervous to fly on wings that were clipped that harshly. The sheer size of her wings was her one advantage. Leon wasn’t sure if his longer wings could do what hers were currently doing, at least, not to that amount of success. As she approached the last few feet to the ground, she folded her wings tight and shoved her legs out under her. She slid in mud, her claws providing no aid. Leon was quick to steady her. “Great job,” he said as she caught her breath.

“Thanks,” she said and shook her wings so feathers would lie better. The wind and rain made that rough. “Not my best, but hey, I didn’t fall like a rock.”

“That you didn’t.” Leon reached back up to tap something against his ear. “This is Condor One to Roost, Condor One to Roost.”

“I got you Condor One, the chopper is prepped. We’re sending it out now. There’s a red line coming towards you, it’ll blow over in the next ten minutes, the chopper will be following right behind. You’re certain Baby Eagle cannot get airborne?”

“Negative, it was all she could do to get down forty feet.”

“Understood. Then you’ll go on foot. The satellite images show a structure just beyond the main village, across a bridge, before the lake.”

Leon nodded but Hunnigan couldn’t see that. “I remember, I passed by it once already.”

“There seems to be enough space to land the chopper outside, that’ll be the evac point. Make your way there.”

“Will do.”

“Be careful.”

“Always am. Condor One out.”

Ashley was watching him with sharp eyes. “Those call signs are a bit on the nose don’t you think?”

Leon chuckled. “Hunnigan- “Roost” picked them out, not me. You’re Baby Eagle, in case you were curious.”

“I was,” she said and started to relax. “You seem confident.”

“I’m good at my job,” Leon said and started to lead the way around the church side. The rain was pouring but he didn’t have any issues seeing. He assumed Ashley didn’t either.

“And what exactly is your job?”

“Oh, now that’s classified.” He smirked and saw that Ashley tensed just a bit before she followed him. “I work under your father, that’s all you need to know right now.”

The stopped just before reaching the front of the church. They both could hear the townsfolk inside talking. Voices were raised against the storm in anger. They had lost them and they didn’t seem happy about that. “Ugh,” Ashley muttered when she looked down at her feet. They were coated in mud. “I just had my talons done too- hold on…” She looked closer at Leon’s feet. He was equipped naturally with claws, just like her, but not nearly as large. But that’s not what caught her attention. Strapped to each foot and secured around the ankle were what looked like… “Leon are those gutting claws?”

“Huh?” He looked down at his feet and replied, “Disembowelers, yeah.”

Ashley frowned. “Those were banned decades ago, deemed too brutal and inhuman for use in war.”

Leon nodded. “Yeah.”

“But they’re strapped to your feet.” They were wicked things, large, curved, sharp blades in the shape of talons. They were fitted over his three largest toes and moved with them. The largest was more sickle like and he had to keep that toe raised slightly.

Again, Leon agreed. His eyes were back on the towns people who had started to search the yard outside the church.

“You’re supposed to be military? Or government? But you’re using weapons that have been outlawed.”

“Not sure where you’re going with this,” Leon said. He rolled his shoulders and flicked his wings quickly. Even freshly oiled they were getting soaked in this rain.

“I’m starting to doubt you work for my father.”

“Oh,” Leon turned back to her and cracked a smile. “Come on Ashley, you should know better than anyone else how the United States works. Rules for thee but not for me.” When she only frowned further he clarified. “I’m not exactly your average soldier, in fact, I’m not a soldier at all. I’m something else entirely. Gutters or Disembowelers are authorized for use against BOWs and other biological weapons. I’ve been trained to use them, have the scars to prove it. But I can only,” and his voice took on a serious tone she hadn’t heard before, “use them against BOW’s and other bio weapons. If I so much as scratch a civilian with them that’s it, I’m done.”

“Are you implying there’s a biological weapons threat here? In rural Spain?” she couldn’t hide her disbelief.

“Yes,” Leon said, his voice betrayed no jokes. He tapped the largest claw in the mud. The rain had washed away the blood and gore that had built up on it from earlier in the day. “This is ground zero for a whole new biological weapon. You’ll see soon enough.”

it kinda bugs me about how in until dawn so few of the characters seem to express genuine remorse for what they did to Hannah or acknowledge that what they did to her was pretty terrible. Meanwhile as Josh you have to mentally acknowledge that you hurt them whether that be through an apology or a justification, and neither of those decisions really affect his relationship or interactions with them so it's kind of pointless.

I believe Emily is the only character who expresses genuine regret and shame about the prank (while it is optional to find the posters for her to apologize to Beth and Hannah, she always finds Beth's head iirc and immediately expresses regret) and horror at what happened to Hannah & Beth. Jess is 50/50 where she expresses some level of regret about it when they find the caution tape but doesn't ever say she's sorry directly. Meanwhile Mike and Ashley (while I'm less inclined to believe Ashley's role was malicious, she may have believed that what happened to Hannah was horrible but also felt she wasn't responsible) if they express regret are presumably lying.
