Mark your calendar and set your DVR. Today, June 2, Ashleigh Cummings’ new TV series NOS4A2 (pronounced Nosferatu) is to premiere on AMC at 10:05 pm Eastern Time in the U.S. She plays the main character, Vic McQueen, opposite Zachary Quinto’s supernatural villain, Charlie Manx. Vic was described as a “super-powered horror heroine” by an article from bloody-disgusting.com. Don’t be deterred by the name of the website; the article was quite insightful. Below is an excerpt:
“In NOS4A2’s central conflict of good versus evil, it’s Vic McQueen’s unique talent that gives her a fighting chance to stop the ever-creepy Manx. But Vic isn’t cut from the traditional hero cloth. She is NOS4A2’s superpowered heroine, but it comes with great reluctance, a troubled history, and suffering. It’s not just her special ability that makes her super-powered, though, but her sense of humor, courage, and tough-as-nails fortitude.”
I for one am looking forward to watching how Ashleigh portrays the character who is different from the sweet and innocent Dot who we are familiar with and love dearly.

Day 7 of 7 of The Black and White Challenge. No people. No pets. No comments. I was nominated by @lweeden2 and @rithebard and now, just for the pure heck of it, I nominate the Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries cast: @ashleighlillian, @anthonyjsharpe @deedeesmart , @hugojohnstoneburt, @mr_nathan_page, @tammy__macintosh. C’mon guys, you’ve been much too quiet regarding a certain subject of late. 😉😉😉

Happy Birthday, Ashleigh Cummings!
Most of you probably already knew that Ashleigh was born in Saudi Arabia (on November 11) and moved to Australia with her family when she was twelve. What you may not know is that she was trained as a ballet dancer from the age of two, and when she was 14, she joined the Brent Street School of Performing Arts in Sydney, where she learned dance and acting. (See Wikipedia) This little trivia prompted my headcanon about Dot. I imagine that not only did Dot shine at the Fireman and Policeman’s Ball in the new dress she sewed for herself, but she also impressed Hugh and his young constable friends with her graceful and elegant dance moves. Attagirl!
The multi-talented and beautiful Ashleigh is super busy right now. She just finished filming the movie “The Goldfinch” and is currently splitting her time between Miss Fisher & the Crypt of Tears feature film and NOS4A2 the TV series. All three projects are scheduled to be released in 2019, and I am so excited for her.

Ashleigh Cummings Joins Warner Bros.’ ‘The Goldfinch’ Adaptation (EXCLUSIVE) – From Variety.com
Saw this on Facebook today and thought that I’d share the great new with everyone. Congratulations, Ashleigh!
Here are the excerpts:
“Ashleigh Cummings has landed the role of Pippa in Warner Bros. and Amazon Studios’ adaptation of “The Goldfinch,” sources tell Variety…In the book, Pippa is Theo’s one true love who was also in the museum the day of the bombing and is traumatized from the event. Due to this shared experience, they have similar outlooks and develop feelings for one another…This is Cummings’ first role in a major studio film. She previously appeared in “Pork Pie,” “Hounds of Love,” and Netflix’s “Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries.”
According to the article, the film will go into production early 2018. I hope it will not interfere with the filming of Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears!

@missingmissfisher It’s not my usual genre either, but it’s Mr. Foxy’s, so we will sure be watching it. I can’t wait for it to start and will let you know our verdict.
(Re-blogged 02-Oct-2018)
In case you haven’t heard, Ashleigh Cummings is “set to star as the lead opposite Zachary Quinto in AMC’s supernatural horror drama NOS4A2, based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Joe Hill” (per @australiansinfilm on IG, 19-Sep-2018). According to IMDb, the filming of the TV series is in progress now (link here).
I am stoked for Ashleigh’s thriving career but also a little anxious about how she will be able to juggle her schedule to accommodate the filming of Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears, which is supposed to start this month. Fingers crossed that everything will work out at the end.
Meanwhile, congratulations are in order to Ashleigh. I will be watching the new series for sure!

My Year of MFMM – 2016
Since MFMM S3 finished airing in Australia on 26-Jun-2015, the loyal fans continue to watch (and rewatch) the three seasons via other media outlets (Netflix, Acorn, PBS, etc.). Fully aware of the popularity of the show worldwide, Every Cloud Productions announced the plan to bring Miss Fisher to the big screen. Although the outlook for S4 is bleak at the moment, the anticipation of the feature film(s) has kept the Phandom going through 2016.
As much as I hate to admit it, the Phandom has dwindled since the show went on hiatus. New fans still find their way to us, but we are losing more than we retain. However, this doesn’t mean that we had less fun. I am currently compiling the index for my 2016 Tumblr posts, and it brings back so many fond memories. With the #MissFisherCon2017 in Las Vegas under preparation (link here) and the possibility of the MFMM movie to start filming soon (link here), I am looking forward to a more exciting year in 2017.
On a personal note, in July I celebrated the milestone of 800 followers on Tumblr and 500 on Instagram. The numbers have increased since then (to 990 and 596, respectively), and I hope the trend will continue. Also, I am honored that @missfisher_official on Instagram Liked 45 of my posts and regrammed 4 of them! There are really no words to describe my excitement and gratitude. In addition, a number of my Instagram posts received Likes and/or notes from @ashleighlillian, @hugojohnstoneburt, @tammy__macintosh, @anthony_sharpe, and @deedeesmart. I am not ashamed to admit that each time it happened, I was giddy for days. To preserve that happy feelings so that I can savor them again and again, I plan on outlining the details in a separate post. (Link here)
I would also like to express my gratitude toward a few dear friends. @izzyandlouie and @ladygrayluvs, you two ladies worked out a clever plan to surprise me with a present from Australia. The present itself is definitely precious, but the way you had it delivered made it extra special. In addition, I am now a proud owner of a MFMM Costume Exhibition S3 catalog thanks to @rithebard for letting me purchase her extra copy. Last but not least, @mathiesonla88, thank you for gifting me the dishtowel with the fox motif. It is so beautiful that I can’t bring myself to actually use it to dry the dishes!
There you have it, my year of MFMM 2016. I hope next year this time, when I am summarizing my year of MFMM 2017, there will be more highlights to celebrate, including the new movie!
********************
p.s. The top left photo of Miss Fisher, Jack, Dot, and Hugh is from my post on 19-Jun-2016 (link here). I was quite pleased with myself after creating it, but it only received 12 Likes on Tumblr, one of the lowest numbers ever. @firesign23 said that she loved it, which made me really happy. It fared much better on Instagram, though, receiving respectable 84 Likes (link here). I am including it here to remind myself that there is no way to predict how the readers would receive a post, so I should always stay the course to post what I have planned without worrying about the trend or popularity.

My Year of MFMM – 2016, Instagram Edition
In my previous post, “My Year of MFMM – 2016” (link here), I mentioned that there were some highlights on Instagram that I would like to detail so that I could preserve the memories. Please indulge me for a few minutes here while I pack myself on the back as I am afraid that such wonderful year may never happen again in my blogging history.
The photoset above are the four posts that @missfisher_official regrammed on Instagram (links here, here, here, and here). The one of “Australian Pioneering Aviatrices: Maude “Lores” Bonney and Phryne Fisher” ended up receiving over 1,500 Likes on @missfisher_official page. It was definitely the highlight of 2016 for me!
1) The 45 posts that received Likes/notes from @missfisher_official: 001, 002, 003, 004, 005, 006, 007, 008, 009, 010, 011, 012, 013, 014, 015, 016, 017, 018, 019, 020, 021, 022, 023, 024, 025, 026, 027, 028, 029, 030, 031, 032, 033, 034, 035, 036, 037, 038, 039, 040, 041, 042, 043, 044, 045
2) The 2 posts received Likes/notes from @ashleighlillian: 001, 002 We also exchanged notes on a couple of her posts (links here and here)
3) The 2 posts received Likes/notes from @hugojohnstoneburt: 001, 002
4) The 8 posts received Likes/notes from @tammy__macintosh: 001, 002, 003, 004, 005, 006, 007, 008
5) The post received a note from @anthony_sharpe: 001 We also had an exchange about his music via one of his Instagram posts (link here; also see my Tumblr post here for more details)
6) The post received a Like from @deedeesmart: 001
I am going to end this post by saying that I honestly appreciate all of my followers, but there is one special follower on Instagram who I treasure the most. It was a surreal and totally unexpected surprise when I received the notification on 21-Aug-2016. I still pinch myself now and then to make sure it’s not a dream.

Miss Fisher 12 Days of Christmas (10)
On the 3rd day before Christmas I send my love to Dot/Ashleigh Cummings.
I have said it many times before that I admire Miss Fisher a great deal but I identify more with Dot, especially what Eva Callahan said about her, “You have a very strong mind and an eye for detail.” If you ask Mr. Foxy, he will vouch for me that I am also made of stern stuff. I am not particularly fond of motoring, and I don’t drink (not for religious reason, though; I am allergic to alcohol). Like Dot, I am good at solving puzzles too. I just wish that I possessed the same domestic skills she does. In many people’s eyes, Miss Fisher is the ultimate feminist; however, when Dot told Hugh at the end of S3E2 Murder and the Maiden, “I just want to be the one to choose what I do,” we know that she had quietly evolved into one as well.
Because of my fondness of Dot, I saved a special place in my heart for Ashleigh. This young lady is independent, intelligent, determined, and mature beyond her age. She had a great year professionally and personally in 2016 (see my post on 10-Nov-2016 for details, link here), and I have no doubt that she will accomplish even more in the years to come. When that happens, dear Ashleigh, we will be cheering for you front and center.

Happy Birthday, Ashleigh Cummings!
Tomorrow (November 11) is Ashleigh’s birthday. Because of the time difference between Australia and the U.S., I decided to post my birthday wish a day early.
The year of 2016 has been fruitful for Ashleigh.
In June, she won the Heath Ledger Scholarship awarded to rising Australian film stars after applying 5 times and being nominated 4 times before. Atta girl! (Link here)
In September, she won Best Actor/Actress at the Venice film festival for her outstanding performance in the movie “Hounds of Love”. (Link here)
Her stage play, “The Hanging”, ran from July through September at Sydney Theatre Company, for which she received glowing reviews. (Link here)
The official trailer of her new movie, Pork Pie, was released in October, and the film will be in cinema February 2017. (Link here)
On the personal front, she is positively radiant because of her blossoming romance with a wonderful young man. (Link here)
Congratulations, Ashleigh, for having such a wonderful year. Although we miss seeing you as Dorothy Williams solving crimes with Miss Fisher, we are happy to see you flourish in other roles. Your future will no doubt be as bright as your smile. Happy Birthday!

Ashleigh Cummings, "The Hanging"
Another MFMM alum Ashleigh Cummings’ new play “The Hanging” is currently running at Sydney Theatre Company (28-Jul-2016 through 10-Sep-2016). It has not received as much attention from the Phandom because we all kind of got caught up by the excitement of Nathan’s new play “The 39 Steps” and his birthday celebrations.
Several MFMM fans have seen it and think it’s fantastic. As much as I would love to see it too, unfortunately the distance, time, and financial means prevent me from doing so. Why couldn’t I have been born an Australian?
Anyhow, I wish Ashleigh continual success for the rest of the showings. If you live in the area, please go see it and show the Phandom’s love and support for her. For those like me, who live on the other side of the world, we will do our part by sharing some of the glowing reviews of her performances. Bravo, Ashleigh!
********************
“Ashleigh Cummings is excellent as the young woman discovering the boundaries of her sexual and social power, as well as her place amongst her peers. It’s never entirely clear what Iris knows or what she’s experienced out in the wilderness, and Cummings holds that mystery well, inviting the audience to lean in and listen out for the clues.” (dailyreview.com.au)
********************
“Lemon and Cummings give outstanding performances – Lemon is brittle and soulful in a way we don’t offen see (she tends to be cast as a tragicomic, or just comic figure); Cummings is a disarmingly honest 14 – stormy, intelligent, and a little lost.” (timeout.com)
********************
“Cummings is compelling as the hurting and fraught but manipulative Iris. Cummings’ naiveté and innocence earns the audience’s pity and her desperate pain earns their sympathy, despite her attempts to disguise it all with light-heartedness and mischief.” (aussietheatre.com.au)

A Lovely Message from Ashleigh Cummings on Instagram
A little over a week ago (27-Jul-2016), I posted the epilogue of my Miss Fisher Fashion Files and Miss Fisher Wisdom and Life Lessons series on Instagram with the following caption:
“…I would like to thank Miss Marion Boyce for her fabulous costume design. Also, thank you, Miss Kerry Greenwood and the show’s writers, for creating the clever and inspirational characters and dialogue. Last but not least, thank you, Every Cloud Productions, for producing such a wonderful, high quality show. We bow to all of you!”
@izzyandlouie kindly added:
“…and a shout out to the very talented cast members whose portrayals of the characters have made us love them and will continue to love them.”
She went on to tag the entire “family” from the show, which is such a nice gesture as we do love all of them.
A few minutes later, we received a lovely note from none other than @ashleighlillian (aka Ashleigh Cummings, “Dottie”, for those of you who are not familiar with her Instagram name):
“Ohhh thank you so much @foxspirit1928 and @izzyandlouie ! This is why we do what we do and it makes me positively beam to read such posts!!! Eternally grateful”
If you look closely at my blurry screen shots, you will see that she included some cute emoji at the end. This is the third time she left notes on my Instagram posts, and I felt just as thrilled and touched as the very first time. On top of that, @missfisher_official also Liked the post, which just made my day.
Thank you @izzyandlouie for the great teamwork, and we shall keep on spreading the love for everything Miss Fisher!
