Sally Metcalfe: Why would you even carry a knife? Tim Metcalfe: Makes them feel tough, doesn't it? Carrying a weapon. Making people feel... frightened of you. Then 'cos one kid's got a knife, another kid's gotta get one, and then it just gets bigger and bigger. Sally: They must know if you carry a knife that... you could kill somebody. They must know that happens when you stab someone, you're probably going to kill them. And then they're not going to be scared of you then, are they, 'cos they're dead. And you've taken a life, you go into prison. That's two lives. Tim: What a waste. What a waste of a kid that's just… just turned his life around. Y'know, If they want to prove who was harder, let them go at it with fists. Sally: Well, you can still kill somebody with a punch, Tim. Tim: Yeah, but not the way a blade does. You know, if they want to… I don't know, settle a score, let them… punch lumps out of each other with their fists until they bleed. You'll soon find out who's hard enough then, won't you? Sally: Oh, 'cos that's the most important thing, who's harder. Tim: No, I'm not saying that's right, Sally, I'm not saying that. It's just that if they did, then he'd still be here, wouldn't he? It's not just two lives. That's the thing. It's the family. All the people that cared about 'em. It's never just the person that held the knife. Or the 16-year-old who's dead, in the ground. It's the people living in fear… thinking they're next. It's the nothingness. The pain they leave behind. 'Cos they're just kids, Sal. They're just kids. And they're dying.

Thoughts on tonight’s Corrie?

Alison King is an acting goddess, and that’s that on that.

Seriously, though, I thought Corrie was very good tonight! It’s been consistently watchable (not always great, but “consistently watchable” is more than I can say for Emmerdale or EastEnders) lately where none of the other soaps really have been, but tonight’s episodes were particularly good.

I am really frustrated, however, that the show keeps pretending like Carla’s not an alcoholic too. Peter’s alcoholism gets all this attention and focus and ‘if you’ve been affected by issues in this programme...’ messages and effort, but Carla’s has been dropped ever since the initial storyline. (And possibly the kidney transplant story? I can’t remember if her kidneys were failing due to excessive alcohol, or for some other reason. Either way, the transplant is ANOTHER reason she shouldn’t be drinking - but the risks alcohol poses to Carla’s health are completely ignored, while it gets reiterated for us over and over again that Peter’s slowly killing himself. It just feels... idk, hypocritical?)

Granted, I wouldn’t say it’s out of character for Carla to worry about Peter’s health while disregarding her own. So that’s how I’m explaining tonight away to myself. But still - when Peter and Carla were arguing before he left, I was WAITING for him to say something like “look at your own drinking habits before you judge me!”, and... he didn’t.

So while I thought the Carla and Peter scenes were quite well done, I did also feel like they were missing something.

The rest of the episode was great though. Yasmeen was really lovely tonight. It was a brilliant writing choice to have her pick up on how toxic Corey was and warn Asha.

Asha was also amazing! The way she stood up to Corey was awesome, and I’m glad she’s recognising her own worth. And I loved the family scenes with the Alahans.

Yeah, I have to agree with Asha, her brother always seems to get away with anything he does and he tattles on her ALL the time. I’d be pretty pissed too.
