Question @ my artist followers: How do you draw dot eyes without making the character look dead inside.

When I say dot eyes, I mean styles similar to Amphibia, Gravity Falls, Regular Show— Where their eyes are just circles and a dot for their iris. I always struggle trying to draw them while not making their gaze look empty.
