i think the reason i dislike cheating as a fictional trope so much is because i find it such an offputting character trait irl. like i INSTANTLY lose all respect for a person if i find out they cheated on their partner. you don't even have the strength to break up with someone once you no longer have feelings for them? you're spineless and i cannot rely on you for a damn thing. if you can't handle your relationships in a mature way, i think you're a moronic little bitch and you need to grow the fuck up. and i don't find the willingness to cheat a compelling character trait in fiction, either, in the same way someone might dislike a character for throwing a whiny tantrum like a baby
