probably a VERRRRY unpopular opinion but i really dislike the final breaking bad episode. like—walter white gets away with all of it. all of it. his family still gets the fucking money. jesse survives. walter was literally going to die soon anyway but instead he got this badass hero's death. yeah it's not unrealistic per se but to me it still feels like the show still wants walter to have his cool guy moment, still wants its audience to have its comforting moment of closure, and i just...am repulsed by that i guess.

conversely my favorite series ending of all time is the sopranos. i literally think about it every week. yes there's fun ambiguity in the last scene, but even that aside it blows me away. the final episodes are structured like a sad little anticlimax, but when you think about it they're so staggeringly meticulous and capital-b Bathetic and dark as FUCK. everyone acts uncaring and selfish time and time again and as a direct result their world gets smaller and more unsafe. the mob has been cutting health codes, pouring asbestos in the lake—and people are getting cancer. there's a jamba juice where there used to be a family-owned business. half the cast dies in pathetic ways, easily forgotten. children are growing up in this world and trying to kill themselves. the best is over. it's so unglamorous and sad. the lake is poisoned—the ducks are never coming back. there can't be any closure. it doesn't matter if tony "actually died" because emotionally he's already dead. ending of all time.
