– when you first met KorrAsami, they were dating each other.

– you already knew of Korra with her being the Avatar and everything and for Asami, you knew of her but only because of the drama that went down with her dad and Future Industries.

– you can't exactly remember how you met them, but you vaguely remember a party and Bolin, your closest friend, dragging you to it and insisting that you meet the rest of the Krew.

– Also, the fact that they call each other the "Krew" was so cute to you, you wanted in.

– and so there you saw Korra and Asami dressed in their best party wear, holding glasses of colored clear liquid and giggling with each other.

– At first, your stomach fizzed with butterflies but you assumed that was your jitters

– you didn't think the butterflies was because the two of them looked good enough to make your knees shake or your face burn. no, not at all!

– why would it anyways? You couldn't be attracted to a couple. that's weird. Like licking a flagpole and drinking a smoothie made of grass and boiled egg yolks. That's weird.

– and you weren't weird. (or at least not that weird).

– anyways, as the party went on, you got to know the two more.

– you got to know that Korra's a bit goofy and playful, that she isn't always the stubborn and hotheaded Avatar everyone knows her to be and you also figured out that Asami made her very shy, very easily.

– with how she acted towards the general public and threats, you thought Korra would be the one to make her significant other shy with flirts and cocky sentences, but it turns out that Asami was the one to. and she wasn't even flirting.

– Asami would give one smile and quip to Korra and the Avatar would melt like ice cream on a hot summer's day. It was cute, honestly but also made you ick on the inside.

– you didn't know why. you had nothing against the two and PDA, but seeing them flirt with each other gave you a certain pang in your chest.

– after the party's events, you found yourself getting closer and closer to the "Krew".

– you weren't close enough to consider yourself a part of Team Avatar but enough to be considered Team Avatar's friend.

– when you hung out with the Krew, you would linger around KorrAsami. Wherever they went, you went.

– Bolin teased you about this, naturally, being your best friend and all, but you denied the allegations he tried to make. --

"You have a crush on them!" "Please, I do not. I'm hanging out with them because i want to get to know them more. That's all."

"But you even laugh at their jokes. You never laugh at Mako's and I's."

"That's because you and Mako aren't funny."

"And Korra and Asami are?"

"Precisely." --

– And it was true. You didn't have a crush on them and they were funny.

– Korra and Asami have this type of humor that's unique to them. They feed off of each other and often make snarky remarks about inside jokes or shared experiences. Being a part of that was an accomplishment in its own.

– something would happen when you guys were out and about and you would share the same look.

– the only times the jokes got "bad" was when someone made the other laugh a bit louder than usual.

– like one time Korra made Asami laugh so loud and hard that she cried with a red face.

– the feeling that stirred in your stomach wasn't pretty. it was like whatever you had for lunch curdled and violently punched you in the gut over and over and over again.

– you would seethe every once and a while. Why was Korra making her girlfriend laugh upsetting you? It shouldn't matter what she does. She's her girlfriend and has the right to make her laugh. It would probably be more concerning if Asami laughed harder at your jokes.

– Right?

– It would be great to make Asami laugh like that though. Her sparkling green eyes come to a close as her eyes squint. Her hand would politely cover her lips with a hooked finger, further pushing the elegant and proper look she's made of herself. And even though her blush does this for her already, her cheeks would be redder from how hard you made her laugh.

– Isn't that normal for a homie to want? It was normal to want to share that experience with Korra; making Asami laugh. These were all normal things. Right?

– It had to be. It's what you thought about at night. Making Asami laugh, making Korra shy, holding their hands and nuzzling your nose against their cheeks. That's all very normal things to think about when it comes to your friends.

– you never thought that way about Mako or Bolin of course. They were like siblings to you so, they were sibling pretty. Not the weak-in-the-knees-heart-racing-platonic-pretty Korra and Asami were.

– Well, Bolin didn't think so. Deny all you want, say what you want, but he saw the way you looked at them.

– He saw how your eyes light up when they come over to talk to you or how cutely small and shy you'd get when they hug you at the same time. He saw how you would point them out in everything you see, even if you're not with them.

– Bolin knows you and apparently, he knows you better than you know yourself.

– He knew you so well that he could tell when you were jealous and he could tell when you were attracted.

– when you were jealous: when their PDA gets too much, when they walk away together, when they make inside jokes, when they call each other "babe", and when they prefer each other over anyone else in the Krew.

– when you were attracted: when their attention is on you, when they talk to you one-on-one (mano-y-mano as Bolin referred), when they would hug you or take you out as a trio, when they compliment you, when they spring into action or act serious, and so much more that Bolin could write a whole book about your attraction towards the pair.

– Honestly, Bolin understood the attraction. He had a crush on Korra once. Mako too! In fact, everyone in the Krew had a crush on her so the fact that you had a crush on her (and her girlfriend) just met you're officially a part of their friend group now. Yay!

– now, Bolin never told you that he's aware of the crush you had on the pair but he would hint at it with suspicious winks, wiggles of his brows, and jokes that confused everyone else but you.

– "Yeah, red and blue sure are attractive colors, huh?" then he'd nudge you and you would freeze with a nervous smile.

– Mako, Asami, and Korra would have no clue what Bolin meant. Especially since they were talking about imprisoning war criminals when Bolin blurted. But hey, randomness is what Bolin is known for.

– A couple of weeks after that incident, you finally came to terms with yourself. You had to, the jealousy was getting too much that the girls were picking up on it.

"Whoa, you good?" Korra chuckled, noticing your glare after she kissed Asami's cheek. "You're uh, looking angrier than Mako on a good day." On a good day, you would tease her back but the feelings were too much.

The thoughts of holding them, kissing them (and not just on the cheek), and spending time with them was overwhelming and taking over every fiber of your being.

You couldn't watch them interact with each other without a firey burning in your chest and the clench of your fists. Also, you're pretty sure you've shaved a couple of centimeters off your teeth from all the teeth grinding you've been doing.

The girls have been giving you curious looks when you would glare in their direction. They'd awkwardly look at each other and then get away from your gaze to avoid confrontation.

Korra and Asami never assumed you were the type to judge their love, they didn't get that vibe from you, so it was a nerving surprise you got angry whenever they showcased public displays of affection.

"Yeah." You eased your shoulders from your ears. "I'm fine. Sorry. Just stressed."

"You must be chronically stressed then," Asami spoke as she slung an arm around Korra's shoulders. Your lips tensed at the sight. "Because you're always making faces or scowling nowadays."

"Yeah, you're doing it now actually," pointed Korra. You eased your lips again. Damn, it's like second nature to tense up or scowl whenever you see them interact. That wasn't healthy. At all.

These are your friends. By the expressions on their faces, you can see they're getting uncomfortable holding each other around you. Asami slowly moved her arm away from Korra with a frown and they tried not to show it, but they held each other's hands behind their backs.

Your friends had to hide their true selves from you because you're too afraid to admit your feelings.

Is this what you want? For them to be afraid and think you're someone or something you're not? Of course not. It was time to face the music. You have a crush on Korra and Asami.

“ I can't help it, I'm just selfish, there's no way that I could share you.

Mako was almost sure he could hear the way Korra's teeth were grinding. Her blue eyes were fixated in one specific point and her jaw clenching, he followed her gaze and his own eyes met your silhouette laughing with some other girl who was a little bit touchy with your arm

Korra and you didn’t have a romantic relationship... yet, she always says, it's only a matter of finding the right time and place to tell you and it definitely wasn't in a party celebrating the probending championship.

‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “You'll hurt your teeth if you keep doing that.” the firebender called for the avatar, cutting her thoughts on how she could fight the girl for you. “You should maybe do something about it and stop killing people in your mind when they're with her.”

Korra looked back at him, he knew about the girl's crush on you, just as Bolin and Asami did. Everyone in the group were well aware of how she ogled you at every chance she had to look your way.

‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “I don't think here is the correct place, you know.” her eyes went back at the two of you, you now looked very interested in whatever the hell the girl was saying and that made her heart dropped.

That should be her making you laugh, that should be her having you look fondly and interested in anything she said. The avatar crushed her cup of water in her hand, Mako watched with his brows raised.

‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “I'm just saying, you should start working before someone else make a move on her.” he finished taking a sip of his drink.

And for you... Just one person was aware of how you would ogled her when she was distracted.

Bolin gave you the idea on making Korra jealous so she could action, you tried to be the one to take the first step before and were met with a one-sided flirt or an interpretation of a friend outing instead of a date, so you gave up.

You didn’t know if your flirting was just bad and sad or Korra was ignoring it since she didn’t feel the same way about you, but it was the earthbender accidentally being a wingman saying how Korra didn’t stop talking about you and how pretty she found you on one of your dinners with him that made you decided that maybe you would wait for her to make a move when she felt comfortable enough... But it felt eternal.

You knew the plan your friend gave you was working when in a quick glance of the place while the girl was talking about some weird bending move she claimed to create your eyes bumped into Korra's for a second and the way her blue eyes looked cold and electric sent chills down your spine, so you continued with the plan.

Your hand looked to caress the firebender's arm with what would be interpreted as a second intention which made the girl move closer to you and Korra stood up from her seat scaring Mako who looked at her.

‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “Uhh, Korra, I need you to think with a cold head what you'll do.” the guy at her side said and she moved her hand to shush him.

‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “I got this, fuck time and place.” she said before making her way to you.

You were way too focused on not looking away to not give another impression that when the avatar took you by the arm and pulled you away you stumbled a little bit with your own feet.

‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “What the fuck!? Who–” your exclamation stopped mid sentence when your eyes met the blue ones and your legs almost failed you. “Korra...” the calling of her name left your mouth as if you were out of breath.

And you kinda were; the avatar had this serious grimace painted on her face and her aura felt intimidating. You heard the girl you were talking with protest to the avatar on how she was speaking to you, her eyes shot at her and Korra straightened her posture.

‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “Yeah, well, she's going with me now.” she said tilting her head to the side. “Any problem with that?”

The firebender looked for help on your side but you were way too concentrated on Korra to notice anything else. She shrugged and went back to the bar.

Her eyes got back at you and you could actually see how they softened at your sight, non-verbally Korra requested to be out the place with you and you agreed.

The walk out was quiet, once the talks and music sounded distance you two took seats in the concrete stairs outside the place. Your eyes never left Korra, it was clear at how mesmerized and stunned you were at the scene, you imagined everything but that.

‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “I'm sorry if I was too harsh on you, I just...” her words mixed in the wind, she stopped to think of how to follow. “I was, uhm, I was jealous.”

Your heart skipped a beat, it worked.

‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “It's just... I couldn't bear to see you with anyone else that isn't me.” she continued, her gaze was avoiding yours until that sentence. That electric blue that made your legs shake met your curious eyes. “I've liked you for quite some time now... And I know this isn't the time or place to say it–.”

Your lips didn’t let her finish whatever she wanted to say as they were pressing hers, at first it was a shy tiny kiss which had Korra stunned at the action. When you pulled away, a flirty smile was growing in your face.

‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “You like me, you think of me, you couldn't see me with another girl, you were sooo jealous.” you teased her speaking over her lips. That gave Korra the courage to take you by the waist and place you on her lap, your eyes opened with surprise.

‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ “What if I am? You're mine now, I don’t have to share you with anyone else.” she attacked back, feels of tingles at the brush of her lips on yours. “You're mine, aren't you? Can I call you mine?”

It definitely felt almost like a dream, one which you didn’t to wake up anymore. A big smile began to grow in your own mouth. “Of course, I'm yours all yours.”

You had so much to thank Bolin the next day.

In Mako's defense, I don't think we should blame the whole love triangle fiasco solely on him

A lot of things came into play for that triangle to happen but it just so happens that Mako's need to NOT disappoint anyone (but ending up disappointing everyone) is a huge factor.

Let me just point out that whenever Mako initiated a kiss to either Korra or Asami, it was never while he's "officially" dating the other. If anything, it was often the girls who would kiss him first while knowing he's dating the other, which they both know that it is their fault too.

In Book 1, he just simply confessed his feelings for Korra while also pointing out the fact that he couldn't act on those feelings because he's dating Asami (whom he also has feeling for but possibly not to the same degree as with Korra). But Korra kisses him anyway.

In Book 2, Asami kissed him first at her warehouse when the guy is simply cheering her up and saying he believes in her even when she doesn't believe in herself. At the time, he just broke up with Korra. Sure, it was pretty recent and he's trying to not dwell too much into that by busying himself with police work but can you blame the guy for giving up trying to put up with Korra's spitfire?

Then of course, we know what came after when Korra and Mako saw each other again and Korra's memory was wiped.

Now, notice how Asami pretty much didn't try to make a move on him again after that? Even after he and Korra broke up the second time (for good)?

I think Asami pretty much realized that Mako's too not into disappointing anyone and too emotionally awkward to pursue a relationship with again. Because not only would it be awkward but going from one girl to a other twice could ruin their dynamic as a team as well as her friendship with Korra, both of which she cherish.

So, yeah, both girls ended their romantic relationships with him. (Or in Asami's case, the possibility of it.)

And this sets up to what I like most about their relationship with each other after, especially in Book 3.

Now in Book 3 starts between three of them with Korra and Asami witnessing how Mako treats their interactions like a land mine, like any moment some hard feelings might come up, and how much he wants to avoid that from happening.

Hence why he declined Korra's offer to have him live in Air Temple Island and both ladies' help with the investigation.

What Mako doesn't realize is that there's zero to no hard feelings between the two because they pretty much had an idea that both of them made a move on him while he was dating either one of them.

Asami for sure knows that Korra kissed Mako in Book 1 and Korra probably had an idea that something happened between Asami and Mako while she was away and felt embarrassed that she kissed Mako right in front of her and everyone who knew about their break up. Probably why she laughed when Asami admitted that she DID kiss him.

Because both women knew they had feelings for Mako and that the dude also reciprocates those feelings and thought "Yeah, that was awkward but maybe we can bond over that fact instead of being at each other's throats because we're also at fault and if there's a female version of bros before hoes, Mako is that emotionally awkward hoe and we won't let his people-pleasing ways get between our vibe."

So they both poke fun at Mako's awkwardness to loosen him up. None of that "you hurt her and you hurt me, and now you're gonna pay for it" revenge plot. I guess Mako picked up on that during their airbending performance because he wasn't uncomfortable around those two since. And I guess Mako finding out that they got away safely from the Earth Queen's airship and out of the dessert reassured him their team dynamic is still intact.

The Korra-Mako-Asami love triangle is not exactly what I would call toxic.

Fucked up? Yes. Messy? Yes. Toxic? No.

Maybe it would be toxic if, say, Mako actively pursued both women while he was in a relationship with either of them without any inhibitions or conscience to stop him from acting out his feelings for both. Like, literally cheating on them.

Instead the canon love triangle is just a clusterfrick of three developing young adults emotionally stunted by dead parent/s, becoming a parent, parental issues, and basically being sheltered for more than a decade in the middle on an icy nowhere with limited contact to the outside world.

Ngl I chuckled at "Mako is that emotionally awkward hoe" lmao.

After reading some of the comments... people still don't get it. The point isn't that Mako is innocent, he is far from it. But so many people just pretend like the girls didn't have an active part in the drama, especially Korra. ALL three are to blame, even if we say not equally, then Asami is still the one carrying the least of it.

If the writers had given more spotlight to Mako or at least equally as much as they did to Bolin, it would've been more apparent but I think Mako's core flaw was that he was often very indecisive in anything that wasn't bending related (he was acknowledged as talented af by Amon), or keeping his brother's ass alive. We see him mostly going with the flow, which is a problem.

But in the end he without a hesitation decides that he is willing to sacrifice himself to bring Kuvira down by overloading the spirit bomb.

As for his stick in the butt. It's for a reason. He watched his parents get killed by a firebender (missed opportunity to make him conflicted about his talents as a firebender imo). He and his brother were oprhaned and became homeless and he sacrificed a lot to keep Bolin alive. They joined a gang and I would assume that he carried most weight there, since he wanted Bolin to retain more of his innocence than he did. Their life, for Mako, didn't start turning upwards until they got to leave the triads and move into the probending scene. He shielded Bolin from a LOT in those years more than likely, just to allow him to remain his cheerful self.

So basically, Mako sacrificed his own innocence so Bolin could have his. Him being less animated, more no nonsense and more serious, makes sense because he HAD TO BE to keep themselves alive.

my thoughts in regards to the makorra and k/s stuff

to be frank the b2 breakup was due to their mutual flaws not incompatibility neither of them were ready for a relationship with anyone. it was asami and korra who were incompatible with each other ( their needs and conflict styles ) while makorra overcame those mutual flaws

by book 4 and the way the book 2 breakup happened pointed to them getting back together once they overcame their mutual flaws ( and the narrative of b4 pointed to them getting back together ( for mako had gotten the love interest spot again and shown that he overcame his flaws ( they both did and shown they could argue healthily

I never really thought of korra and asami as becoming friends until b3 ( before you go but asami said she liked korra you dont need to be friends with someone to like them as a person ( I don't mean like like of course ) to be honest korrasami was a last minute retcon

they barely interacted and you cant use the censorship excuse that wouldn't justify the lack of interactions and how mako got the love interest spot

and shown that both of them overcame the mutual flaws that led to the b2 breakup and were able to argue healthily ( the issue wasn't the arguing the issue was that neither of them were able to handle it well neither of them were ready for a relationship with anyone

but by b4 the narrative pointed to the show either ending with a hint to them eventually getting back together or straight up getting back together or

I have always felt that a part of korrasamis popularity is people with the irrational hate for mako supporting it to spite and punish mako for the love triangle mess which is nonsensical

so i have futures and kids planned out for pretty much everyone, but i'll just go over the main krew ships + kainora for now. and i'll try to keep it kind of brief but i have So Many thoughts about them so we'll see if i'm successful. i have like. an entire labelled timeline. it's wild

under a cut because this got so long holy crap

the easiest to start with is the bopal kids. they get married a couple years after the end of tlok and start having kids pretty soon after. they end up with four kids (somewhat considering adding a fifth but we'll see. there's already so many ocs)

their eldest is jade, who is an earthbender. then they have a pair of identical twin boys, named san and goji. san is named after bolin's father. san is an airbender, goji is an earthbender. their fourth child is a girl named tempa, who is an airbender. she actually ends up becoming blind later in life. not whatever toph had, as she was born seeing, but she had some degenerative disease that slowly took her eyesight. she actually ends up developing a technique similar to seismic sense, but with airbending, to help her get around! she keeps her head fully shaved so she can always feel vibrations in the air

the next up to have kids is, surprisingly, kai and jinora. this was not intentional on their part. but they've been dating since they were like 12-13, so i honestly don't think it's much of a stretch that they would end up becoming parents as teenagers. pema and tenzin are a bit upset that their daughter got pregnant at 17, but at this point they've accepted kai into the family, and they respect the young couple's decision to keep and raise the baby

and then after they have their first baby, they decide that they're going to hold off on getting married until their family is complete, so all their kids can be a part of the wedding. like bolin and opal, they end up having four kids as well. all of them are airbenders. their first born is a boy named sangye, second is another boy named tadashi, third is a girl named zaya, and fourth is a girl named tara. it's the jinora and tenzin parallels for me lol. two boys, two girls, four airbenders. despite their young age they are very good parents

then we have the korrasami babies. they have the smallest family, with just two kids. i did some research and as it turns out, sperm donation/artificial insemination procedures were a thing in the 1920s. of course they were WILDLY unethical at the time but hey, they did exist. this is how they end up with their kids. mako is the donor, which i know some people may find that weird but mako is their best friend, i feel like they would rather have a donor that they know and trust than just. some random guy

korra is pregnant with their first baby, who they name katara. she's a waterbender. asami is pregnant with their second baby, a little boy they name hiro, after asami's dad. hiro is a nonbender. they are literally the best moms ever <3

and last but not least, we have wuko's kids. for the longest time they are the cool, childless gay uncles. i think they're both really good with kids, but neither are ready to be parents for a long time. not to mention in my timeline it takes a solid ten years for wu to get the new democratic earth kingdom up and running smoothly enough that he can abdicate. and even after he abdicates and he and mako get married, they're still unsure about kids for a few more years. when they do decide to have kids, they both for sure want to adopt. i have a whole separate post i could make about mako quitting the police force to become a social worker and opening up a youth shelter. but he knows he wants to help out kids, so hopefully none suffer the way he and bolin did. wu does not want to have any bio kids, as he wants the royal bloodline to end with him so there is no possible claim to any kind of throne

but then korra and asami are like 'hey, if you guys want a baby, we're cool with helping out' because i mean mako already helped them have their family, they can do the same for him and wu. and since they're offering, mako and wu decide to take them up on it. korra ends up being a surrogate for them, and they welcome a little baby girl that they name naoki, for mako's mom

then, soon after naoki is born, they end up finding a trio of very young sisters out on the streets. their mother passed away, their father walked out on them, and they have no other family. the eldest girl is only 8 years old. when mako meets her it feels like he's looking into a window at his past self. the girls are very frightened, but mako and wu are able to earn their trust enough to help them out. and in the process of caring for them, they end up totally falling in love with these kids. they ask them if they want to be adopted. all three say yes

the girls are named kasumi, ryoko, and hikari. all three are firebenders. naoki also ends up being a firebender. there's so many firebenders in the wuko house. i'm also spreading my girldad mako agenda. him and wu taking these girls in and giving them a family is actually super emotionally healing for him. he's able to make sure another set of siblings out on the steet has a family

anyway that's a very basic rundown!! i love chatting about my next gen kiddos so so much so thanks for asking! and of course if anyone has any questions about specific kids or families please feel free to ask!!!

Some AU idea: Noatak after running away from home instead of becoming the hypocritical revolutionary, becomes a vigilante who works alone. Normally he lives in Earth Kingdom pretending to be a non-bender who works in a restaurant or a pub, but as Amon he uses waterbending and bloodbending to fight criminals. He even takes away their bending in extreme situations. Many people fear him (due to bloodbending and his outfit that is the same as in the show) while others see him as a hero. The amount of his supporters becomes quite big.

After some time he moves to Republic City after hearing about the young Avatar being there. When they meet, despite Korra being suspicious of Amon's intentions at first, they start to work together in secret. Korra even developes a crush on him and he reveals his identity to her. Of course, after he takes away bending from big amount of triad members, Korra becomes angry, and the members of the council deem him as a dangerous criminal and Tarrlok wants Korra to eliminate Amon. Of course, she's against it, but she pretends to agree to protect Amon.

Zhu Li Moon agreeing to marry her unscrupulous employer Iknik Varrick wasn’t even the worst part of the wedding. Nor was it being dogged by Prince Wu, who insisted on telling Iroh again all about his heroic actions during the Battle of Republic City and how much more useful they’d been than anything the United Forces had managed to do. As if everyone from here to Ba Sing Se wasn’t already aware. Nor was it the fact that Iroh had come alone to an event intended to celebrate the happy unions of couples. He’d only been in the United Republic a little over a month and had spent what felt like all of his waking hours since then at work. Though the United Forces may not have seen action in the battle with General Kuvira’s forces there was seemingly no end to the demand for Iroh’s troops now that half of Republic City was in ruins. It wasn’t so unusual then that he hadn’t had time to identify a date. Even if wandering around the celebration solo was a tad lonely. 

No; the worst part of the wedding was Avatar Korra.

He’d only heard the comment by chance. Iroh had been walking past one of Air Temple Island’s many pavilions when he’d heard voices on the other side of a hedge. The first he recognized instantly. Pema had been a close family friend for as long as she’d been married to Tenzin; Iroh had even stayed with them when he’d first arrived in the city before he’d found his own long-term accommodations. 

“Oh, there must be somebody here that strikes your fancy,” she said in a teasing tone. “You’re both such pretty girls. Not that looks are everything. But it’s been a hard year for everybody. You two deserve a little love and fun now that we have peace again.”

“Well, maybe there’s someone.” Korra’s voice.

“We’re still figuring it out.” Iroh didn’t recognize the second woman as easily, but she sounded familiar. Asami Sato, maybe?

“You’re not fighting over Mako again, are you?” asked Pema, confirming his guess.

A laugh. “Definitely not,” Asami said. 

“Hmm. You’re going to make me guess then. It sounds like someone you both know. Bolin is taken. There aren’t that many other young folks here. Wu doesn’t seem like either of your type.”

“No way,” said Korra. “And you don’t need to guess. We’ll tell you another time.”

“Wait, I’ve got it! That man from the band. The one who used to be a pro-bender.” 

Someone made a retching nose. Iroh smiled. He didn’t mean to be eavesdropping, but it was also nice to know he wasn’t the only one who’d come to the wedding alone. That was, until…

“General Iroh.”

Iroh’s breath caught in his throat. Him?

“Oh gosh, never,” said Korra. “You couldn’t pay me enough.”

“Really?” Asami’s voice. “I like General Iroh. I mean, not like that, but you know. He always seemed nice.”

“That’s because you don’t know him,” Korra replied. “Don’t get me wrong, I like Iroh, too, and he’s real hot when he wants to be, but Asami he’s got to be the most boring man on the planet. Trust me, I’ve known him since I was a kid. All he likes are books and maps and dead languages and fusty old museum exhibits and going to work. I don’t think he’s even been to a pro-bending match. He’s nice to look at but sheesh, the most interesting thing about him is his collection of teas. Which he organizes by region in his cabinet.”

“That’s a little harsh,” said Pema. “I like to think of Iroh as more of an old spirit in a young man’s body. Tenzin was the same way at his age. It’s endearing.” 

“Well, you’re welcome to him,” said Korra, but Iroh was already walking away. He’d heard enough.

Completely ignoring the fact that Korra was easily just as guilty as he was. The only one who I genuinely believe was innocent in that whole mess was Asami. Because at least she made it clear who she wanted to be with, and didn’t kiss Mako when he was already dating someone else.

🏳️‍🌈: Honestly, Lin. I’ve tried writing her in wlw ships, but it just doesn’t work. I don’t know why either. I just don’t get any queer vibes from her personally, and I have an easier time shipping her with men. A close second would be Mako. Amorra oneshot - Flowers

Well, I was scrolling for my google docs and then I found this little thing. I improved it and corrected a lot of parts (anyway, I ask for forgiveness if I made some grammar mistake enough to make your eyes bleed) because WE NEED MORE AMORRA CONTENT. 

Disclaimer: It follows the AU “Amon and Korra are enemies with benefits, lol.”

“So… that was a nice detail.” Korra nonchalantly says, sending a brief look towards the vase with orchids over her bedside table. 

Amon follows her gaze and raises an eyebrow. Then, he remembers that she can’t see his expression. “What are you talking about?”

Her mouth shapes into a sly smile before she makes herself comfortable on his lap, placing her arms around his neck. The gesture is unusually coquettish coming from her, but he doesn’t complain. It has its appeal. 

“Don’t play silly. I know it was you who sent the bouquet. I gotta admit it, it was a good joke, although it wasn’t very fun having the girls and Pema asking me every minute of the day if I had a boyfriend.” Before Amon can say something, Korra adds. “And the orchids made Naga sneeze.”

Amon refrains from snorting because this entire situation is absolutely hilarious. A bouquet of orchids? Also, why would Korra think that a gift like that was supposed to mock her?

“It wasn’t me, Avatar.” He finally utters, tilting his head when he watches her flinching at his words. “What about the Councilman Tarrlok? Everyone in Republic City knows he has a taste for sending you stuff like that.” 

Korra huffs. “It was an anonymous gift, there’s no way he can do something without gloating, you know. ‘Avatar Korra, did you like the orchids I sent you?’” She kind of imitates the arrogant tone of the Councilman and Amon almost lets out a chuckle. She has a point about his brother, he acknowledges. “And, well… Mako is dating Asami, Boling gave up on me some time ago, so… I thought it was more probable you were making fun of me for doing something pretty oogie.”

Korra makes a disgusted look, but the red spreading across her cheeks and the way in which she avoids his gaze give her away. She is kind of disappointed.  His hands come to encircle her waist, his fingers softly digging into the soft skin beneath her shirt. Sensing it, she locks eyes with him. 

“Being the Avatar turns you into a celebrity for every bender of this city.” He remarks. He seems to spit out the words “Avatar” and “bender” and Korra frowns and balls her hands for a second. Whether it was for that or the condescending tone he is using, he isn’t sure. “It is, in any case, normal that you receive these details.”

The silence stretches between them after that. Amon sees conflict and shame dancing in her blue eyes as if her mind is working to apprehend the entire situation. Finally, she groans and untangles her arms from his neck to cross them over her chest.

“Just forget it. Anyway, I don’t like flowers so much.”

Amon never meant to feel something regarding the girl. If he approached her, it was to obtain information, monitor her closely, and get a hold of her. He has been gradually successful. He already has gotten into her bed. On the emotional side, he is watching the results right now. She is getting attached to him. But, for some reason, something stings in the back of his head seeing her like this. 

With a little amount of awkwardness, he caresses her from waist to hips, waiting for her reaction. Her apprehensive expression slowly changes, and Amon feels his pants start to tighten when he sees her bit her lip at him taking her breasts in his hands. Then, what he murmurs in her ear earns him a smirk from her.

“I didn’t fool the inept guards of Air Temple Island to merely talk.”

Enough signal for things to return to the status quo. 

He never is going to send her flowers. She is his enemy, not his lover, although he sometimes expects their nightly encounters more than he would like to admit. But his merciful gift for tonight is to erase the deception from her face.

I went into this book expecting a simple YA fantasy but was pleasantly surprised by its nuanced discussion of systems of racism and the effects they have on our family’s history. It wasn’t the most groundbreaking analysis I’ve ever seen by any means, but it felt incredibly personal to the author and didn’t take away from the story being told.

That story was very entertaining and kept me engaged though the final battle scene did have me giggling when it absolutely shouldn’t have. The YA really showed in the fight scenes. However, my main issue with YA tends to be that the characters are childish to the point of stupidity, but Bree is incredibly intelligent throughout the book. She still felt young and naive which is a difficult balance to strike that Deonn does very well here. She feels like a 16 year old while still having a brain on her shoulders.

The magic system was also pretty cool. There are certainly some gaps in it that come with the YA, but I’m hopeful the next book(s?) will clear some of those up. I especially liked the “root” aspect of it, which as explained in the authors note was based off certain African American mystic traditions from the antebellum period. I’m a sucker for learning about how people have used magic to understand and provide protection from the world, even if this book wasn’t entirely accurate it was still fun.

Slight spoilers ahead:

I had seen from some reviews of the book that there is a bit of a love triangle especially in the second book. Now I thought this would be a problem, because I HATE love triangles with a burning passion, but I actually like where this one seems to be going. It feels like a 16 year old who kissed a guy a couple times and cares about him, but also there’s another guy who also happens to be hot and nice. I think what I hate about love triangles usually is that the main character gets stuck between a terrible person and the one they end up with and I’m just screaming the entire time about how stupid the character is for even trying to like the terrible one. Normally I think they’re stupid, but here you can tell that Bree is smart, but inexperienced in what she actually wants out of a relationship. It really feels like she might not end up with either of them for the rest of her life, but that’s ok because she’s 16 and it’s crazy for her to know who she’ll be and what she’ll need in a partner for the rest of her life.

I don’t think I’ve ever actually been somewhat hopeful for a love triangle in a book series before. The only other one I can think of liking was Korra, Asami, and Mako from the Legend of Korra, and I liked that one because it only resolved once the characters had all dated each other and really grown as people in order to figure out what they needed from a relationship. I may have to find some other good love triangles and stop avoiding them so much because in theory they should be fun.

Shared Moments: Books 1 through 4 (I plan to post the start of 4 soon anyway, my poor health keeps getting in the way. Prior books are done though).

Book 1 is just scenes set between book 1 episodes that show Korra and Asami building their friendship.

Book 1.5 deals with Asami's trauma and grief over her father.

In Book 2, I set the break-up sooner so the stage can be set for Korrasami; the events in the South spark a world war that Korra, Asami, and Krew must find a way to stop.

Book 2.5 covers the aftermath of that war.

Book 3 delves into the Red Lotus and growing unrest in the Earth Kingdom.

Book 3.5 covers the healing journey for Korra and Asami after the Red Lotus defeat. It's also the rise of the Blue Spirit.

Book 4 will cover escalating political tensions that threaten a second world war.

I also dug into themes of trauma, healing journeys, disability, and chosen family. I can't even tell you how much research I did on lore for some of these books.

Others I loved by various authors:

South by FuzziFox -- what if when Asami asked to go South with Korra at end of book 3, Korra said yes? This is such an heartwarming and fascinating journey about grief, healing from trauma, and identity. I loved it.

A Second Glance by Valkrez -- it's mostly canon but with Korrasami an on and off again thing in all the books. It's heavy on smut for those that enjoy that.

It Belongs in a Museum by Lovedeathcats -- basically the Indiana Jones AU we've always wanted. I absolutely adore this fic and have even made fanart of it. I just love the idea of Asami as a badass archeologist like Indiana Jones, and Korra as her partner/sidekick. Plus Asami's team has all our favorites: Mako, Bolin, Jinora...

Beneath the Surface by Lovedeathcats -- a modern-day AU, where the bending world exists in secret next to the modern non-bending world. Asami Sato has no idea it exists until she gets an offer to be the maintenance crew for a secluded academy. There she meets Korra and unearths a mystery. I love this story and how soft the girls are with one another. It deals with trauma very well, and although it's not finished, the author is regular about updates.

with every drop of raining singing (I love you) by GallifreyanFairytale - it's just Korra and Asami walking in the rain.

The Girl in the Iceberg by RainbowRosie (and it's sequel Church of Raava) -- Asami discovers Korra when her archeology trip brings an iceberg back tot Republic City. Korra wakes up to a world where bending is just a myth. I honestly loved the lore in this and how it tackles a lot of complex politics in very intriguing ways. Every character felt real and full of depth. Plus Korrasami is adorable.

The Engineer's Guide to Dating the Avatar by wegglebots -- this is just silly crackfic fluff. Sometimes we need silly, hilarious fluff.

Such Essential and Beautiful Things by Shigan - all takes place after book 4. It's about Korra and Asami's growing relationship. All hold humor but also sweet fluff too.

Repairs, Retrofits, and Upgrades by Progman -- takes place after book 4. It's an examination into grief, healing, and finding a way to deal with the horrifying problem that spirit energy could destroy the world and the damn things grow on trees. Of course, Asami Sato can fix it all. I've read this story so many times. There's one chapter in particular (the one that the author had a piece commissioned for that feature a special water ceremony) that haunts me to this day.

korra, not alone by islandofme -- takes place between books 3 and 4. What if Asami visited Korra during those three years she spent healing? Gorgeous fluff really.

Balance of Power by vetofan -- What if Korra's bending didn't appear until her teen years? As in she grew up a nonbender? But still had to face all the same fights as the original series? Join up for an exciting and ridiculous romp across the world with the Krew. Honestly, it's a fun set of books, and I laughed my way through them.

A Place in this World by Paxbanna -- it takes place after book 4. It's a slow burn where Korra returns south to heal, Asami struggles with rebuilding Republic City (again), and the growing spirit problems start to impact the world in negative ways. It's incredibly written.

Where the Snow Takes Us by AsamiOnTop -- a skiing AU, where Korra is a ski instrument and Asami her student. There's also Olympic shenanigans and lots of adorable fluff.

The Calm Before the Storm by SifuTurtz -- Asami's treatise on Korra's arms or the tender night the two spend with each other before Kuvira's assault on the city in Book 4.

Under Me, Over Me, Anyway You'll Have Me by Korrasamibottles -- A fun, lighthearted examination of Asami and Korra's height difference and the silly, sexually charged competition between the two. This one had me laughing and awwing at the same time.

My Fanfiction Recs: Korrasami

In 2020, I watched The Legend of Korra. (Fun fact: it helped me realize and accept that I was bi! So the show has a special place in my heart.) Crazy enough, I started reading Korrasami fanfiction the same year. For the next three years I devoured the fanfiction, and so the following list is an accumulation of my favorites. I think I've read enough to say these are some of the best. Though I haven't been into the fandom lately, I didn't want this old list to go to waste in case anyone was hunting for some good Korrasami reads.

Actually, I discovered some of my favorite stories through Tumblr blogs and am immensely grateful for those posters for sharing their lists. This is my way of paying it forward. Hope someone can enjoy these like I did.

The Everthere by guileheroine My favorite one of them all. I would argue this is one of the best fanfics, if you like a cozy and character-driven read. You really get into Korra and Asami's heads and moods. Slow burn but so, so worth it. I've read this one three times.

Nightmares and Daydreams by Dispari It's been a while since I read this one, but I had a note saying this is "maybe my 2nd fave". Similar characterization to The Everthere.

like broken thunder by neurolingual Camp counselor AU. All of this writer's works are amazing. They truly have a gift for writing beautiful prose. This time, it's Asami pining for Korra, a different perspective from most fanfics.

I don't remember these as well, but I do remember them being very good and well worth a read. (I know I reread some of these.) And I haven't seen some of these on other lists, so I guess there are some hidden gems in the mix. Some shorter parenthetical notes here.

The Honeymooners by hellorhogwartsfics Honestly, should fall under the above category too, but the story really stood out. It was a wild ride! Modern AU. Asami is a jilted bride and her best friend Korra is there for her to take the place of her husband for the honeymoon. I'm a big fan of this author's humor too.

Brittle Wires by golari This was such a unique AU and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Maybe my 3rd fave. The way they wrote Korra and Asami here was so unique. Their interactions are subtle but meaningful. I'm also a fan of nerdy Korra and a secretly pining Asami. It shows the work as unfinished, but it's complete since the author was just thinking of adding an Asami POV chapter.

and you lift me up in a wave of love by overnights (Surfer AU, this one gave me a warm feeling I recall. Read it if you like the beach and sand. And rock.)

McShep/clone!Carson fic from your brain microwave pls!! 🔥

[obviously major spoilers for Stargate Altantis, also spoilers for Legend of Korra]

OKAY so the idea with this one is that Rodney and Carson were dating before the whole camp-full-of-ex-Wraith thing, and some time between then and the events of Sunday, they break up and Rodney and Sheppard end up together. When they find clone!Carson, he doesn't know about the breakup or Rodney and Sheppard because of when he was cloned, he also obviously doesn't know that he fucking died... and if you've ever seen Legend of Korra yeah it's basically when Korra comes back to republic city with partial amnesia and doesn't remember her and Mako breaking up and he's with Asami now but instead of amnesia it's clones.

It's gonna be angsty, duh, and I'm planning on a heavy focus on Sheppard's self-worth issues. Like, the second clone!Carson shows up John basically thinks he's already dumped. I'm gonna hurt my own feelings with this one 😶

she doesn't distrust them, she just doesn't completely see the point. asami is semi involved in tech herself, and likes to stay up to date with modern technology, so she's use siri occasionally, but half the time she just finds it faster to do herself.

she sets exactly two alarms and she really only needs one. asami is very good at waking up at the first alarm, but she likes to be careful and has a second one for ten minutes after the first one, just in case. she's good at staying on schedule though and it is extremely rare that it gets to the second alarm going off. she also just doesn't want to have to force korra to listen to too many loud noises early in the morning when she gets moving.

honestly, she's pretty neutral on it. asami is naturally social and has no issues with conversations and noise around her, but she can enjoy quiet moments for sure. it's only once it starts going on for too long that she will get fidgety. she's very good at acting calm though and you probably wouldn't be able to tell once she reached that point.

i am so realistically honest here, she would probably just give one wish to korra, one to mako, and one to bolin. she knows she's been incredibly lucky in her life, and while she might consider something like bringing her dad back to life, there's very little she'd been left to want. she's rather offer them out to her friends who could probably get better use out of them.

she probably does at least light celebrations for all of the major holidays. every now and then asami probably enjoys hosting big holiday parties, pays someone to decorate her whole place and invites like everyone she knows over for some big thing, but in general she can really enjoy some light decorations and outfits, and would do a little something for anything. beyond the big stuff just being able to have a nice meal with the important people in her life would be a good time. objectively christmas is probably the favorite just because she gets to take the most time off of work to actually celebrate between that and the new year.

okay i've got two like silly little pet peeves that would drive her nuts. one is when she's at a meal with someone and they keep checking their phone. please if you are making time to spend with each other actually spend it present with each other. the second is not putting lids and caps back on things and just leaving them lying around. i don't know why i just know it would drive her insane.

I really enjoy thinking that she was indeed jealous of Mako that time she sort of dated him the second time around. She just wasn’t sure of that then.

Which got me thinking...Asami sure is of the kind to tackle things one at a time, at least on a personal level (she can be quite multitasking when she wants to be as well):

She dealt with Mako in Book 1, then the focus of her feelings shifted to Korra - unbeknownst(?) to her maybe? Idk

But her company about to go under had to be her priority at the time and so that was her main concern in Book 2 (of course until Korra/her friends needed her)

And when FI was back on solid grown a.k.a. task completed - by Book 3 - all else took a backseat and her devotion/budding love for Korra was put front and center on her priority list
