Objectively correct list on which Batfam members would swear
Bruce: no clue if he swears canonically or not outside of miller's all star b&r, but he should not. Look I am very opinionated on this. I do not think Bruce swears. Bruce values control over his own mind so much you know he would not want to do things that would make him look as if he is not in control of himself, even when he is not in control of himself. However, I do imagine that teenage bruce swore, as when Damian cusses Alfred out Alfred is like "Ah, memories" or something. Bruce was an angry teenager.
Damian: Canonically swears and would swear. him meeting the batfam by cussing out alfred is iconic i will not hear a word against it. he can be mean to people without swearing, too, of course. he just has a lot of tools in his arsenal.
babs: look, does Barbara canonically gamer-rage? Not really*. but she deserves it let her swear in anger when people are doing stupid stuff.
dick: I don't think dick is opposed to swearing on principal, but I don't think we have a lot of panels of him doing it in proportion to how long he has been in comics and not done it. I imagine it being more of in the "What the fuck" instances like when something weird or unexpected happens (and only when he's an adult or teenager, b/c as younger robin he was doing the 60s exclamations or whatever that everyone did)
stephanie brown: like dick I don't imagine her being opposed to swearing but I don't see her doing it a ton. I see her doing it more often in anger, since she's got quite a lot of anger locked up pre-Batgirl 2009 and possibly still in batgirl 2009
cass: cass isn't opposed to swearing, but given her propensity for mimicking the speech she sees around her in batgirl 2000, I don't think she'd do it a ton until she sees it on the videos she watches to figure out how 'normal people' talk. then she does do it, though I imagine it's less in anger and more just casually, since i headcanon that cass gets less verbal the more overwhelmed emotionally she is (which... IIRC is supported by canon? She stopped talking at some point in batgirl 2000 when she was on the outs with Bruce if I recall, it's been a bit since i did a read through)
duke: duke is another character I don't see as opposed to swearing, but I don't think he does it out loud on account of his mom clearly not liking it (at least he doesn't do it around his mom, or didn't back before she got joker-ified XD). he does in his internal monologue though sometimes
Tim: Tim canonically censors his own internal monologue IIRC in Robin 1993 you know he does not swear. possibly inspired by whatever cheesy 50s/60s exclamations his icon dick grayson made when he was robin.
*We do see her yelling and saying things she'd regret over comms, but also saying things you regret is like batfam 101 if you don't do it they kick you out.

Read "Suki, Alone". Liked it in general. But can they please, please hire someone who knows both the show's actual events and how to follow through on a character arc? Because guys. Guys. That comic is not implying about Suki what they meant it to be implying, and all because of literally one line.
So like. From a writer's standpoint:
What they meant to do: show Suki as a community-oriented person who cares for her people, and believes in everyone succeeding together.
As opposed to (spoilers): the thief girl they set her up in contrast with, who's pretty upfront and consistent on primarily looking out for herself. She betrays Suki for one (1) corn chip to improve her own life at the prison, no surprise.
But the problem is: they give Suki an inspirational line to the effect of "we're all working together and we'll all break out together"
You know
The thing she does not do in the show
So if both the show and this comic are canon, then instead of setting up a compare/contrast with the thief girl, they've just set up a comparison. One were Suki is arguably worse, because she's been leading a significant number of prisoners on with her "we'll all fight and win our freedom together!" business, only to straight up cut them out of the escape loop and abandon them, whereas the thief is only leading Suki on in the sense that Suki keeps telling her what it's morally correct to think and confuses snide replies with agreement
My dudes. My fellow writers. You people actually being paid for this. There were so many ways to fix those awful implications against our girl's character, the simplest of which would be to not include that line. Or they could have, you know, made it canon compliant with what actually happens in the show, so that this comic doesn't set Suki up as a betrayer instead of a community builder. Like... just send all her good prison buddies off to other prisons in the wake of the warden finding out they're colluding. Have it timed to be right before the next new prisoners arrive, thus setting it immediately before the Boiling Rock episodes, so Suki didn't have anyone left in the prison she'd want to take with her on a breakout. For bonus points, include a page or two of her and her Kyoshi warriors opening up the cell of one of her prison friends post-war, thus implying she's tracking down and actually fulfilling her promises. Maybe even show her doing the same with thief girl, who was established as being imprisoned on false charges anyway, and also showing that Suki is A) the bigger person, and B) willing to acknowledge her own role in mistakes (because I cannot emphasize enough how much thief girl was not hiding her own priorities, and it was Suki who approached HER with all this, not the girl ever doing anything special to weasel her way in) (this would also open up an opportunity for paralleling Suki's earlier in-comic mistake of not listening to one of her friend's very valid thoughts and feeling, which lead to the girl leaving their island alone pre-canon; a "seeing people as they are, not what you want them to be" moment)
Anyway yeah enjoyable enough for a quick read but another one for the "this can't be canon or the characters are So Much Worse than they were in the actual show" pile
At least Aang didn't promise to murder anyone in this one
#I also have minor critiques like#Why are all the guards drawn as short and noodly-armed as Sokka pretending to be a guard#Why are the guards the only ones allowed to have funny lines#Did anyone consider using a lack of dialogue in some panels to establish mood and let the visuals speak for themselves (no they did not)#Why is Azula villain monologuing for so long at the start#She does like her villain lines but in the show they're short#And generally aimed at fresh opponents#Not last week's old news#I kept wondering why Azula was even there instead of generic lackeys especially since she had to have been dealing with the conquest of#Ba Sing Se around then. big This Could Have Been An Email vibes#Also as a gardener#HOW FAST WERE THOSE PRISON PLANTS GOING TO SEED AND WHERE CAN I GET SOME#Apparently they needed minimal (almost no?) light and tiny cracks of space and were nutritious and tasted good raw and grew so fast they#Could substantially affect the diets of multiple prisoners within a short time span?#I WANT THEM IN MY INDOOR SETUP ASAP#Screw lettuce I want Suki's Magic Beans#avatar the last airbender#atla#Suki#There continue to be no comics in Ba Sing Se but this was a better attempt than some#Suki Alone

Hi, this is probably a stupid question but would it make sense/be accurate for an autistic character to have, like,,,,, normal facial expressions, at the correct time (like when they're happy or sad) like a neurotypical person? Without having to mask and intentionally force themselves to make those faces?
I'm autistic but I don't think I do this. I don't talk to people unless I absolutely have to and my memory is dogshit so I can't recall any times when people have commented on my facial expressions, and I definitely do make expressions sometimes, just maybe not in the right contexts or not very often.
I'm making a comic and one of the characters is autistic and very based on my own symptoms (she's the main character so since she gets a lot of screen time, I figured it would be easiest if I already knew how to represent her).
My reasoning behind wanting her expressive is:
There are already two other characters with autism who are pretty blank and expressionless.
It's a comic and I want to draw a lot of fun expressions, I want her to be able to smile softly and snarl and look baffled and make all kinds of faces, without her having to mask and constantly be miserable.
But my problem is that I want her to actually have autism. And when I look up posts online from other people, I'm really not seeing a whole lot of "Oh yeah I can emote and make facial expressions exactly like a normal person, in the correct contexts, automatically without masking."
So I'm not sure at this point if this is something we can even do? I've seen quite a few autistic people say that our brains literally do not work this way.
Maybe, would it be possible that she has the opposite problem most autistic people do? Most of us are sort of blank and expressionless and have to mask and make ourselves look happy/surprised/angry.
I thought that instead, she could be TOO expressive, so she would have the correct expressions at the correct times (looking angry when she's angry) but she wouldn't notice this, and would make the wrong expression at a bad time?
For example, if she was at a funeral and found something funny, she would unintentionally smile/scrunch her face up and everyone would get pissed because "Omg girl their grandma got killed by a dragon and you're laughing?"
So most autistics = masking to create expressions
But her = masking to remove expressions
I hope this makes sense It's midnight and I need to sleep lmao
Hi asker!
I just wanted to say that it is, in fact, possible for autistic people to be naturally expressive. A flat or flatter affect might be more common, and many autistic people mask to create expressions. But that doesn't mean all!
Me, personally, I'm autistic. I've been called expressive pretty often. I generally smile when I'm happy, frown when I'm pissed off, widen my eyes when I'm surprised ā expressions you'd consider normal. This happens less often the more tired I am, and in my diagnosis debrief I was told that what I do that isn't normal is that I don't direct expressions to people: basically, that I don't use expressions to communicate with others, they just sort of happen. Which surprised me, because I saw communication as kind of a side effect of expressions as opposed to the main purpose, if that makes sense?
One of my adult family members is autistic as well. They are also very expressive, in fact kind of too expressive like you mention your character could be. They can't really hide the facial expressions they do (that generally correspond to typical expressions) and so can't really hide what they're feeling, even when it would be better to hide it. Their version of masking would be working to remove these expressions, which they don't actually do, but that would be the case.
That's two examples of people with autism that are pretty typically expressive, yet still show social/communication difficulties even in that. So: what you're describing is definitely possible.
As a side note:
Autism is two-fold: social/communication difficulties, and restrictive/repetitive behavior. Everyone who has autism experiences those two aspects. However, autism is also very varied in how these things present, so be wary of anything or anyone that says something (other than those two things) applies to either absolutely all or absolutely no autistic people. Sure, some presentations are more common ā like a flat affect, or lack of eye contact, or how hand-flapping is a common stim. But no single presentation is universal. And on top of that, 'difficulties with social communication' doesn't have to mean 'difficulties with every single aspect of this.' It can! But it doesn't always.
Also, wow, I have typed the word "expression" so much that it barely seems like a real word right now!

I want to share some interesting discussion about Arturia (and Executor by extension), including some discussion about neurodivergency--a lot of this informs their characters and actions and shines better light on how it can reflect real life.
Also, here's her prequel comic which gives more context
The outcomes of her actions are not often good, but she's definitely not supposed to be evil/malicious/sadistic. She is ideologically driven and, because of her morality axis being different from most, genuinely believes what she's doing is good/correct. She has reason for what she does, such as being opposed to Laterano's limited empathy and discrimination, and what happened in her childhood.
It can be read as a commentary on how the vast majority would rather remain sheep to survive, then be true and (possibly) die.
Her motivation can be summed up as: she wants people to stop repressing themselves. Which theoretically sounds good on paper, but obviously impractical in practice. Sometimes honesty isn't the best policy.
Kriede's fate, his death, was out of his own real volition. What resulted in him wanting to save Ebenholz.
It's unconfirmed, but she may be a victim to her own Arts. She has no inhibitions about removing other people's inhibitions. Or she gaslights herself/disassociates when it comes to her mother's death. She was probably traumatized, but underreacted. To her, Mom dying and using her Arts on her mom are two separate things that have no causation.
She does not regret using her Arts on her mother. She does regret being unable to have helped her mother go further to achieve her dream before she died. Arturia considers it her own failure that Mom died before she reached self-actualization. At the core of it all, Arturia wants to see more people be like her mother, willing to act on what they truly want.
People's despair are all worthy of being addressed and felt and released. That's extremely relevant to her worldview. It's what separates humans from animals acting on instinct. Arturia doesn't care for the Seaborn and thinks they are beneath notice. They are Nothing to her. You can be Good or Evil, but you must be human. Have human desires, because animalistic desire is boring. Human irrationality is what makes them beautiful to her.
People who say that Arturia caused everything to happen in Hortus de Escapismo ignore the fact that the overall situation had been deteriorating long before she set foot there. If anything, she may have just sped up the process of things that were going to happen anyway. Which is not the same as causing it. Looking at it from the perspective of the people living at the monastery, it's reasonable that there would be depressing thoughts floating around everywhere. But the Abbot tells Arturia that her music soothes the pain.
Laterano's response to the situation did nothing to alleviate the actual problem, the material conditions (ie no food). If Arturia's abilities worked the way some people think they do, everyone at the monastery would've been dead in a week or less.
If you're debating jumping off a cliff, then she isn't going to make you jump, nor will she influence you to jump. If someone is worried about Arturia's Arts affecting them, causing them to do bad things they otherwise wouldn't have, because of intrusive thoughts, then they shouldn't even be concerned. Because Arturia is not interested in that. Acting on intrusive thoughts is not what she looks for. It's more akin to helping someone dive deep into their subconscious to face the thing(s) they refuse to face. Some people choose to take this back up with them to the surface. People who contemplate doing bad things for brief moments normally don't have those kinds of thoughts sitting deep within their psyche to drag up.
Arturia obviously needs therapy, but the most important thing to her is whether you have the conviction to act on your desires. Let go and embrace how you truly feel. The extremities of pain and despair (and perhaps even happiness) are among what she values. A very complicated individual.
#dltext#arturia giallo#at worst she's an irresponsible driving instructor and would certainly not be licensed#not the most upstanding person since people have died; but she means well :)#after all; what's so bad about people realizing their potential?#(rhetorical question)#there's a difference between removing restraints/indecision for someone to properly make a choice#and being the person making the choice#someone compared her arts to anti-depression medication; while they don't cause sui/cide#they make your brain functional enough to go through with it; if you really want to#but to write off meds entirely bc of an unfortunate side effect is unreasonable#arknights#dl talks ak

I know everyone says how great Vicious and Hope were written enough. But I kinda want to bring it up again because, it's actually really well done.
You guys could've taken the much easier: Grr I'm flat and 1 dimensional because I hate my kid for being weak and USELESS. Route for abuse, but you chose to go the extra mile and create one of the best stories regarding parental abuse I've ever seen in media.
Vicious's abuse towards Hope has layers, she's not evilly rubbing her paws together going: >:) TODAY I WILL RUIN MY CHILD'S LIFE!2!1!2. she believes Hope is a object, an accessory. Something that didn't even deserve a name.
Then the way Hope finally stands up, disowning Vicious and leaving with Adamant and Storm is so fucking cathartic for me.
I don't know how the comic will end, but I have a feeling we're gonna get a good one at least. I hope Hope gets to have a full recovery from all the bullshit happening to her right now.
She's not all: oh pity me and the terrible things that happen to me. She's willing to change and aaugshhdhehsbss it makes me want to root for her so bad.
I can barely even put into words how glad I am this little comic exists.
Thank you so so much, anon. This is so sweet to hear.
And we are very fond of our round, strong af Hope and her development too. She's so fun to write! c:
And yeah, Jasper's abuse having an effect on everyone just felt like a very natural place to start with Vicious's feelings towards Hope, as well as having two stillborn children and being given absolutely no support from her partner who she cherishes over it. I think people underestimate how much of a traumatising experience it is for a mother to lose her children because xenofiction throws out dead kid plot devices like candy but it's there nonetheless.
It was enough to work with without having to make Hope's disability a factor and to also develop Vicious as a character in her own right too. She abuses her children and you're absolutely not meant to root for her but that doesn't mean you shouldn't look deeper. What disgusts and shocks us is just as curious and complex as what fascinates us and why parents abuse their children is just one of those topics. There's no excuse for it, but it doesn't mean we can't seek out patterns that can lead to it and have media demonstrate that as opposed to something that places the emphasis on the victim.
And this also allows a chain reaction to happen where people can realise that yes, Vicious is being abused but why and that leads to the discovery that Jasper is working for a tyrannical dictator and has pretty much sold his soul for the tiniest hint of power.
It's just one of those things that allows us to naturally implement story beats and character motivations better and we're always so stoked when people pick up on it, so thanks again! - RJ

Hmā¦ what about Yandere Scourge? Heās already got some of the obsessive traits to him.
Oh gosh yes! I do agree, Anon, Scourge definitely has a few obsessive traits that accompany him well into his last scenes in the Archie comics.
Scourge was one of my most favorite characters from the Archie comics, so it's so exciting that I'd get a request like this! It's ironic because I was drafting up some ideas before for him to just release so this request is perfect :D š Prepare for a whole analysis! š«”
Also, Imma assume you wanted romantic headcanons since it wasn't specified! I can do more in the future if you'd like š©·
TW: Yandere behavior. I do NOT condone this in real life, this behavior is unacceptable and inhumane. Treat others kindly.
This work talks about physical abuse, (mild in the sense of other characters canonically being hurt) and a lingering threat that the same will happen to you, the reader. Other traits such as possessiveness, obsessiveness and manipulation are talked about in mild detail. Read at your own risk.
He needs to have power, Scourge evolving said power to be a necessity in his life because he wants to be acknowledged, (the comic itself makes fun of his existence, including the desperate ways he goes just to be known). In the comics, rather than earn that respect Sonic gets through being a kind person, Scourge takes that "respect." All throughout the series, he's drawn in these outlandish poses that demand your attention, fighting for some screen time in a comic that he thinks is supposed to be about him, opposed to Sonic, the true hero.
Scourge is everything that Sonic is not. He is supposed to be Sonic's biggest rival, the most devious guy out there, Eggman himself "paled" in comparison but instead, Scourge is Sonic's worst rival. The comics elaborate on this because as stated before, Scourge goes through desperate methods just to have some validation, the comic making fun of him in the process. Scourge is able to achieve his ultimate form and absolutely beat down his enemies without a single scratch yet, he screams at Sonic for running away when Scourge is talking to him. The King has arrived! Show him your respect, now!
Here, you can find Shadow quite offended that Scourge has a crown.
Scourge as a yandere would definitely want power over his dearest. With his relationship with Fiona Fox, she fed into his ego and need for command. She crafted the plans while he did the majority of conquering. However, each time Fiona could have outshined Scourge, she always checked back with her boyfriend because she knew he was supposed to be the main guy. However, with you in his life as his new chick (obsession), Scourge demands respect and control. He's the biggest baddie around, the King, respect. Scourge himself believed that he should be the new face of the comics, obsessing over the fact that he had to one up Sonic. Proof of that? Well, just take a look at the image below. Need I say more on just how petty Scourge can be? (Yes).
You cannot have anyone in your life that is more important than Scourge himself. He is your top priority, as you are the same to him. Scourge has to know where you are at all times, needs you to be by his side and edging him on to do bigger and badder stuff, (he's a showoff and not in a good way). He conquered all of Moebius, (he killed his dad in the process), taking over as King Scourge, crowning Fiona Fox as his queen. Since Scourge is yandere in this AU, he's enraged that Fiona would leave him, (even though she did return to him again) so when he had stumbled upon you, he took you by his side without a second thought. Fiona on the other hand, when she returned to Scourge, wasn't so fortunate as she had been put in her place rather forcefully. This brings up another point: Scourge will make you listen one way or another, even if it means physically harming you. For context, he took the evil counterpart of Antoine, Patch's eye, (hence his name) and constantly threatens him over losing his other eye in case Scourge feels he's stepping out of line.
Here, you can find Scourge absolutely dunking on Sonic about not having a girlfriend anymore. He is also doing his outlandish poses as mentioned before.
Going off of his quote and points before, "Any guy after me is gonna be bland," Scourge fully believes that after beating everyone into submission and having absolute control, you'd have to want him like he wants you. Nobody loves you like I do. You can't be in a relationship with anybody else! They're not good enough, too lazy and all time losers. But don't worry, Scourge is here to make your life so much better. He's got everything under control because Scourge is the King. No one would dare disrespect him and his status! Not ever. Not even you, I mean c'mon, he's King and you've got to respect that. Fiona was well put into her place, wasn't she? Would be a real shame if Scourge just picked up Fiona again to stomp all over her as you helplessly watch, wouldn't it? Doesn't that make you want to listen to him more? Lighten up babe, be his sweet little devilish angel that you are and nobody gets hurt. Too badly. Oh but don't worry your pretty little head, Scourge isn't afraid of some blood! In fact, he loves it. Sometimes, he likes it when you talk to other people. Gives him more of an excuse to leave that said person in a bloody, unintelligible mass of meat and even graffiti over the body because he's just so bad (twisted).
In the Archie comics, I've taken notice of how possessive Scourge is over his crown, a symbol of "King Scourge," the one that everyone fears and will do anything for. Even when Sonic and Shadow teamed up together to try and take down Scourge in a brief fight, Scourge barely manages to pull off beating both of them up and lands just in time to catch his crown. His crown is his identity, he will not lose that. Having you as his lover is now part of his identity because he's absolutely smitten with you. Just like his crown, Scourge cannot lose you or he's nothing. Whatever he had felt for Fiona doesn't matter because you are the new highlight of his regime, the key piece to helping him feel validated. If Sonic dares to take you away from him, oh-oh-oh man, he'd feel real bad just as soon as Scourge became Super Scourge and showed Sonic was a big deal he really is. (Lol Scourge is buullllllyyyyyy).
In summary: Scourge would be possessive, obsessive, controlling, abusive, manipulative and overall, narcissistic.
Thank you for reading my blurb! Lemme know if you'd like to have more!

Hi jezebunny šŖ can you choose a 500 word snippet from one of your published fics or wips and give us some director's commentary / insight into what you were thinking when you wrote it?
have my unposted wip about joey going back to live with the titans in the "modern" era while reconciling post-crisis era stuff :)
i wanted to try to find a way for a like post deathstroke 2016 joey wilson to like... cope with what went down at the end of that comic (especially given slade and rose both fucked off pretty immediately while joey has been in limbo). however, i really like the elements of post-crisis joey's various disasters with the titans & the way the titans would want to support him (and still be ready just in case)? i understand that joey's various villain arcs aren't 100% character-kosher but we're trying to make it work.
i also have been thinking about how he is not shown having like. any hobbies in deathstroke 2016, as opposed to his constant hobby stuff in NTT and NT, so i wanted that to be something the other titans noticed hehe. i ALSO wanted to examine the subvocal mic that priest used to avoid friction as opposed to the titans, who all learned ASL in the wolfman run
this fic will be finished... eventually. she is 5k rn (all characters tagged are in this snippet!)
"Let me wash the dishes," he said as he noticed Donna finishing off her food.
"Oh, you're a guest, soā"
"No he ain't!" Gar laughed. "He should have dish duty!"
"You're just saying that because it's your turn." Vic nudged at Gar, who laughed and squirmed away.
"He's right, I'm not a guest. Or I'd prefer not to be treated as one, at least." Joey reached out for Donna's plate after she'd finished and took it, stacking it on top of his. He proceeded around the table, though he paused with the last one in hand.
"But firstā" he cut a glance at Donna, laden with meaning, before continuing once he saw understanding in her eyes. "I want to be monitored while I'm here. I was hoping to be tracked or have restricted access to the tower."
"Why is that?" Vic asked.
He certainly knew why, but Joey understood that it was his duty to explain.
"The last time I had unrestricted access to the tower, the Titans were forced to play a game of mafia with incredibly high stakes. No one knew where I was or who I was, and it was incredibly dangerous."
"But you're better now, right?" Gar asked.
Raven reached out and placed her hand on top of Joey's. Her palm was warm and soft against his skin. Joey smiled tightly at her.
"I'd like to think so, but I'd prefer that some safeguards were in place. For my safety, too. I don't want to lose it again. And if I did, I don't want to hurt anybody. I've never wanted that, not really."
"I understand," Raven said, thumb rubbing at Joey's hand. She did, undoubtedly, given her own past. She wasn't as easy to restrict as Joey was, either. He couldn't imagine how she lived like that. He admired her strength.
"If it'll make you more comfortable..." Donna trailed off.
"I can set something up," Vic continued for her. "How about we set it to expire after a probationary period. That seems fair to me."
"I trust you," Kory said quietly. "And if something were to happen, you know we could handle it."
"Yes. But I'd rather stop it from happening in the first place." Joey flipped his hand over slowly, letting Raven's hand slide into his. He sighed tiredly, thinking of the events of the last year. "I'm not... Things haven't been going well for me lately. I don't think anything is broken, exactly, in my head, but I never notice until it's too late."
"Do you want me to look?" Raven asked, grip tightening slightly.
"Later," Joey agreed, though the thought was a little unnerving after all this time. Before, he'd known what Raven would sense from him. Now... he wasn't sure. He was a worse person now than he'd been before, even discounting his betrayals of the Titans.Ā His fingers curled around the plates, and he slowly pulled his other hand free of Raven's.

Good Stuff: Primos
It was the summer of 2023. We got the opening to Disney's new cartoon. Then it was bullied into releasing next year. Primos is one of those cases where culturally, you could smell the Americana from it in spite of intentions, and when you get around to it the hate wasn't fully deserved. It was funny, but to me this was like if Japanese Americans shitted on Dragon Ball Z for characters being named after veggies. Then again, nobody hates shit harder than Mexicans and Latinos and the PR wasn't the best, Tater's VA definitely didn't help. But, I'm grateful Disney didn't pull a Zaslav and shelf this as if this was the damnedest thing to ever happen to Hispanics. Now that the wait is over, is the show good?
it's far better than Latinx Loud House Cleveland Show, credit where due
The comparison to Loud House/Casagrandes isn't far off, but Primos has the advantage of it feeling like the time Tater spends with her extended family will have a start and end to it. We're in the same headspace as Latka who's not only adapting but revaluing her perspectives regarding her family. Nothing groundbreaking, but reminds me of Clarence where it has that messier but more homey charm as opposed to Loud House where over time it felt too plain and overstayed its welcome. Primos I feel will work as a limited season show like Gravity Falls as you can see well paced progress with both Spud's self-discovery mission and her familial relationships to not too overstay as if it needed to be Disney's answer to Loud House. I overall appreciate DTVA for looking to do less inherently story heavy shows.
We could've had a Katz Cafe too, Disney
Now to get a tad personal, I am Mexican American (Afro-Hispanic specifically) and I can relate to Tuber to a minor extent, given this is based on the creator's own life. Primos doesn't really hit those deep cuts though when despite the heritage I bear, making your show about growing up a gringo or gabacho is not a mirroring experience I'm that into watching. This show isn't like Victor and Valentino or the Puss in Boots cartoon where its representation is purely into its core elements like the folklore and presentation. It's more akin to saying you proudly grew up on Del Taco joints and the ability to grasp subtitles. This is more Disney's overall ethnocentric MO when it comes to other cultures: more for those who want to feel aware than anyone that lived or is living it. I'm not here to chastise Natasha's authenticity in producing this nor act like this is a very patronizing kids cartoon. I'm just saying relatability only goes so far here and we otherwise have a very okay cartoon that had intentions on a perspective we're well aware.
And c'mon, nothing has overthrown the GOAT
Again, I appreciate the small shift to more episodic and grounded shows as opposed to serial adventures to keep track off. While not unique, Primos has a sweet blend of comical and comforting to be worth a watch. French Fry is an enjoyable protag (while Nellie is better) among a good, less archetypal family that overall makes episodes feel as easy-going as Kiff. I won't pretend to say I hated this originally nor did I ever hold any resentment to say this doesn't now deserves more of a chance.
7 Out Of 10, like your average stoner trip to Taco Bell

i dont like mirrorverse i dont like mirrorverse i would like it if it was a more campy 1:1 reflection where things didnt matter but it hasnt been that for a long time if ever lololol
like saying mirror!kathryn hates children = regular kathryn loves them while in practice is probably a correct statement like inevitably mirror!kathryn is her own character with her own vastly different upbringing and not even in an opposing way but just bc mirrorverse has so much of its own lore attached to it SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! like sorry but mirror!JC being presumptively open about their relationship equaling normal JC either isnt open or isnt even together like IT DOESNT REFLECT QUIT BOOING ME IM RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it doesnt even reflect that way in other treks LOOK AT THE WEIRD ROMANCE STUFF IN DS9!!!!!!!!!!
im sure there are trek interviews or SOMETHING destroying my take but literally look at how ambiguous ds9 and enterprise both got about mirrorverse things like ššššššš i 5000% believe its a lot of the reason why voyager DIDNT do a mirrorverse ep and we got living witness instead bc it was so stripped and isolated from the established mirrorverse lore lmao like how do you get these klingons and vulcans and bajorans and terrans and a cardassian all together on a ship well enough to pull that off reflected in the DQ with the established canon of these mirrorverse races lmao
i havent read ALL of the mirorverse voyager content i know they pulled it off in the comics lmao IT DOESNT COUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!! like in the one i read they literally veered off course just before caretaker happened. IM RAMBLING but i just have never seen - = + come across that clearly in the comparisons of the two universes. if anything its more like kathryn on this chain of events = + and kathryn on this other chain of events = -
dont get me started on how we manage in each trek series to happenstance have all of the same characters born to all the same families despite some of the conflicts they establish in canon family lines like that in itself is so like WHY DID YOU MAKE IT ITS OWN LORE WHEN YOU GOTTA WORK AROUND THIS LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! one of the voyager mirrorverse has i think belanna kill tom or the other way around i forget but when i was reading it i was like šššššššš knowing they have a child that will theoritecally never have a mirrorverse counterpart. which you would think would happen A LOT more than its portrayed in the show for ease IDK IT CONSUMES MY THOUGHTS like same with jake sisko mirrorverse like THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES TO BREAKING FAMILY LINES LOL
i think its frustrating that for something you may see only one episode of in a show it asks so much of you in many instances of it lololol like proggy kept it pretty tame IDK mirorverse lore is so elusive and spaced out watch all these shows to piece together the rise and fall of these empires and the strugglers who are evil (but not)
#im gonna get killed#do i think proggy put that much thought into backstories for mirrorverse I DONT KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!#seems to try to align itself with STOās version of her š¤·#but that STO version in itself is another example of how these mirrorverse characters are complex bc shes a little morally gray#idk i think āmirrorverseā has evolved past its name in a way that STINKS to me haha

Spiderman/DC crossovers
So iāve noticed that whenever someone writes a crossover between Spiderman and DC in general, I notice that heās always dropped in Gotham City. Granted, I can understand why. Batman and Spidey have similar origin stories. They both have the combination of brains, brawn, and technological edge that keeps them alive against criminals. Bruce already has 12+ kids, so he has experience taking in and housing other vigilantes. With the release of the MCU Spidey and Tony being his mentor/father figure, itās not hard to realize that Bruce Wayne is the Tony Stark of DC and people want this to echo. That said, I like variety and I started thinking about what would happen if Spidey ended up in a different DC city. This is my personal take on what wouldĀ occur.Ā
These would basically start with Peter getting zapped into another universe out of nowhere and has to make do. Also, I am not sticking with one specific incarnation of any characters (sorry MCU fanbase) but instead trying to create a character amalgam based on various depictions across comics, movies, and games. In other words, I am taking certain liberties with characters/locations, but considering this is all a total AU, I feelĀ like I am entitled to do so.
Metropolis:
Spidey would likely start living in the Suicide Slums seeing as he canāt afford his own apartment yet. Heās grown up in New York (and SS is based of East Side NY) so having to deal with this lifestyle isnāt too hard for him.
He would make friends with his landlady, Natasha Irons, and her uncle pretty quick
Peter would try to apply at the Daily Planet for photography, using a resume that isnāt totally inaccurate but heās hoping nobody goes looking to see if the Daily Bugle exists in this world
Perry wouldnāt hire him as a photographer, heās got Jimmy already. He would more likely hire Peter as the on-site IT repairman and maintenance guy to keep the computers running and up to date. Pete is thrilled by this
Needless to say, despite losing his intended job, he still makes friends with Jimmy. Lois takes a bit of warming up, but she comes around eventually
Lois knows Peter is homeless (Ace reporter on the case) and she starts finding ways to help him out, like dragging him out to lunch with her and Jimmy or bringing him things from home. Peter promptly annoys her to death by insisting heās alright and doesnāt need help.
Metropolis is a lot different from New York. Peter is pretty stunned the first time he debuts and gets praised and cheered on instead of scorned as a menace. Itās a bittersweet feeling that he had to get blasted into another universe in order to be appreciated
Most of the criminals are used to going up against Superman, so they have some serious power behind their punches. Spidey is very unused to not having to pull his ownĀ punches (cause Spiderman canonically has to hold back in order to not take someone's head off)
Inversely, there are a lot of superheroes as well. Supes and the Kryptofam aside, Metropolis has plenty of non-Kryptonian superheroes (Steel, Black Lightning, Booster Gold) so Spidey would definitely run into them and start making friends. I mean heās already got the Metropolis red and blue down
Spidey would unintentionally start saving Lois, Jimmy, and Perry from danger just like Superman did during his early years. Clark is lowkey salty that Lois is teasing him aboutĀ āswitching out for a younger modelā.Ā
Lex Luthor is also pretty steamed that he has to deal with ANOTHER superhero getting in his way. He would be privately impressed that Spiderman can handle most situations with brains over brawn as opposed to Superman, but a hero is a hero.
Jimmy is the first to find out Peterās identity, mostly because he doesnāt have theĀ āawkward reporterā identity on lock the dame way Clark does.Ā
Jimmy insists on being Spideyās wingman, because hey heās already Supermanās best buddy, why stop at one?
Lois is the second person to find out (mostly because she can always tell when Jimmy is lying to her). She is a little mad that someone else beat her to the finale, but she would by now have warmed up to the skinny IT nerd.
Clark is the last person to find out. He and Spiderman would meet somewhere on the rooftops and have a heart to heart. Peter feels safe venting to Supes about being from a different universe, and how he has been struggling to survive in a strange universe and being a good hero at the same time.
At this point, I feel the story would move out of a Metropolis/Superman crossover andĀ into a full Justice League one because Supes is going to do his best to help Spidey get home. Thus, he needs to get the JL involved
Star City
I donāt know much about Star Cityās layout, but I assume it is built like most cities in NorthernĀ California. Peter would likely find a low-income apartment and get a decent paying job to make ends meet.
At some point, he meets Roy Harper who just got back from rehab and finds that his old apartment is being rented out by a skinny little twerp who reminds him of Nightwing
For the record, as much as I liked New52 Roy with the Outlaws, I also enjoyed pre-52 Roy being a successful father and leader of the Outsiders. My take would be Roy just returning from a forced stint in rehab while Ollie and Dinah watch Lian. He didnāt exactly part with them on good terms and is afraid of what they and Lian with think of him.
Roy and Peter end up livingĀ together after Roy finds out Peter can barely keep up with rent and uses his detective job to help make ends meet. Peter realizes this was how Aunt May used to feel when he was the one paying the bills at home.
Commence hijinks of Roy and Peter trying to pull off dual identity jobs while not telling each other
Roy and Peter both know things arenāt copasetic withĀ each other. Roy is still struggling with his history as a drug addict and is still avoiding Ollie, while Pete is starting to feel homesick and worry about the people he left behind. (Donāt worry, they end up talking and making each other feel better)
Royās friends and family keep showing up and making it hard to keep a secret identity: Jason pops up with beer from time to time, Nightwing shows up in full costume not knowing Roy is not living alone, Artemis is pissed when she thinks Roy abandoned Lian and picked up another kid (yeah I put Artemis in the DCU, sue me if I like her), and Dinah just coming over to talk and finding out she has two angsty boys that need help instead of just one
Star City has fewer criminals and more assassins than other cities. I would reason Peter isnāt prepared to deal with Merlyn or Slade and takes a bad hit
Roy throws apprehension to the wind and books it to Queen Mansion in order to save his friends life. This results in a whirlwind of everybody freaking out when Roy shows up with a bloody, dying teenager pleading with Ollie for help (Ollie, I should mention, was not aware Roy was back until this point)
Dinah is the only one who stays calm enough to help Peter while Roy, Ollie, Mia, and Artemis all have a family feud moment.
The end result would be Roy getting back together with his family, taking back custody of Lian, gaining temporary guardianship of Peter, and getting back in touch with the superhero community.Ā
As before, Iām sure Ollie would drop it to the JL that Peter is from another dimension and he needs some help, but brags that if they canāt get him home, heās one-upping Batman on the adoption chart
Central City
Yes, I know Keystone also exists. But considering the two are in different states and Spidey doesnāt have superspeed, so Iām restricting it to Central.
He manages to get a well-off apartment, unfortunately itās right across the street from the Keystone Saloon. He manages to lies about his age in order to get work as a cleaner/barkeep. (For the record, I can totally see Peterās chemistry skills coming in handy here with drink mixing. Keep in mind that Flash, who is a chemist byĀ trade, once worked as the barkeep too)
The Flash Rogues are pretty pissed that the owner hired a kid to work the counter, but after getting some (not at all believed) reassurance from Peter that heās just small for his age, they decide to keep an eye on him while there
Meanwhile, outside the bar, the Rogues are a bit surprised/annoyed that a non-speed related newbie is foiling their heists. That lasts all of five seconds when they realize Spiderman is another minor.
Spidey, who is used to crazed egomaniacal maniacs swearing to kill him ten different ways, is very put off with the Rogues acting like overbearing uncles to him (āI know itās finals week kid, WTF are you doing out this lateāĀ āKid fix your damn costume and patch yourself up before you do this again, you're gonna get hurtāĀ āKid do you even eat?ā)
They warm up to each other, especially when Spidey offhandedly mentions heās not used to people being so nice to him (cue Captain Cold to assume child abuse)
The Flash family proceed to make Spideyās head spin. Barry, Jay, and sometimes Wally stand still longĀ enough to have casual conversation, but Iris, Jay, and Bart are a differentĀ story.Ā
Barry starts to suspect Spiderman is hiding something. He doesnāt follow him home out of respect, but after talking with Cold during a heist, he starts to subscribe to theĀ āchild abuseā theory
The fact that Peter is more or less living bare minimum with fewer calories to fuel his healing factor doesnāt help. Those bruises after a fight arenāt healing as fast. It also doesnāt help that heās showing up to work with half healed injuries.
The ruse is up when Trickster barges into Peterās apartment one night in order to settle the debate and finds him still in costume patching up after a fight with a non-Rogue villain.Ā
The Rogues proceed to haul Peter over to Keystone and dump him on Barry Allen (ā Here, take this. Heās not allowed back out until heās been fed, healed up, and fixed his suit. Donāt make us come back here Flashā)
Barry and Iris get the full story from Peter while they patch him up. Peter is pretty surprised that dimensional travel isnāt the weirdest thing Flash hasĀ ever done (the guy has created parallelĀ universes for crying out loud)
Peter is very self-conscious about eating enough to maintain his healing factor and metabolism, until he realizes heās among peopleĀ who deal with the same problems in day-to-day life outside the house. Itās a touching moment
Once again, queue Justice League to swoop in and take over.
Yes I know not everybody is used to the Flash Rogues being so close with Flash, but I grew up with this particular variant of the characters and I like that itās a change in dynamic between heroes and criminals
Coast City
Again, Iām not super familiar with Coast City other than it is DCās take on Californian cities.
Peter takes a job as a delivery driver to make ends meet. One of the people he delivers to more than most is Hal Jordan (because I assume Hal is just like any other mid 30ā²s bachelor and prefers to order take out instead of cook for himself)
Hal is extremely put off by the pizza delivery boy who looks like he could be a clone or long lost son
By comparison, he is only mildly annoyed by the arrival of a new vigilante in Coast City. (As far as I know, Coast City doesnāt really have any hometown villains. The majority of the bad guys who attack are aliens who are after Jordan for being a member of the GL corps) Hal never really had time to go out patrolling like Spiderman does, so he doesnāt care at first
Ultimately, due to teasing from the other Lanterns and Carol aboutĀ āstaking his turf and laying down the law with the newbieā Hal goes out as GL to talk with Spidey. Halfway through theirĀ āconversationā, one of Halās enemies shows up to try and settle the score
Spidey and GL team up, but Spidey isnāt exactly prepared to deal with the things a power ring can do. His costume gets shredded and immediately gets ousted as the pizza guy less than a week after dropping in Coast City
Hal is having a crisis over this. (What if this kid is his long lost son after all? Iām not enough of a bastard to just leave this kid to struggle with homelessness knowing I could help him. Dammit Batman, you are a terrible influence!)
Hal makes Peter quit the pizza gig because,Ā ākid you are way too young to be working anyway and CPS will eat me alive if they find out I was okay with thisāĀ
Hal, predictably, is zero percent ready to be taking care of a fidgety superteen. Like this guy's level of parental incompetence would terrify Batman. Here he is having spontaneously taken in a kid off the streets when he canāt even feed himself.
Carol hears about this and puts him through the wringer aboutĀ āHow to Parentā Queue Hal doing the most ridiculous things from buying cheesy Parenting For Dummies books to attending seminars for single moms
Long story short, he gets his act together over this because if Peter is in fact a lost family relative, he wants to make an impression/make up for lost time (Peter meanwhile, is oblivious to this thought process and doesnāt think he and Hal look that much alike. They do XD)
Hal and Peter having a bonding moment over at Ferris Air, with Hal taking Peter flying in one of his jets. Hal is shocked that Peter is so familiar with and enthused by the inner workings and considers pestering Carol about getting Peter a position as a mechanic. Carol says not until he graduates.
Word gets out about Spidey and Hal slowly, mostly because Hal is the only hero in Coast City and manages to keep his secrets under wraps. Batman mostly figures out the truth due to Halās change in character (Sorry Bats, canāt be on for monitor duty tonight, I gotta get home and cook for my ki - I mean, for Carol. Cause sheās the one who over at my place. Totally. No one else)
Flash and Green Arrow show up in Coast City to throw Hal aĀ āWelcome to Parenthoodā party. Hal is not amused, but Carol very much is.
Peter finally breaks to Hal, and then the JL about being from another universe. Hal is pretty crushed about Peter not being a blood relative due to entertaining the fantasy for so long.Ā
The League starts trying to find ways to send Peter back. Meanwhile, he starts parading Spiderman around during League meetings going on about how he proved themĀ wrong and being a successful parent. It especially annoys Batman. (āWhatās the matter Bats? Mad that you arenāt one of a kind anymore?ā)
Fawcett City
For starters, Iām really not sure which variation of the Marvel Family to use: the New52 or Pre-52 versions. It makes it kinda hard to nail down plot elements since I go back and forth.Ā
I like the idea of Peter and Billy being homeless together and helpingĀ each other out, Peter being an older brother which is something he has no experience with.
That said, Iām not super familiar with how DC handled Billy later in the timeline other then he started growing up, joined the radio station as the host, and met Mary. Might not be the best storyline to use seeing as it seems a bit spotty
I like the idea of the New52 Marvel Family finding Peter out in the cold and inviting him in. Peter is thrust into the role of the awkward older brother with six smallĀ children looking up to him
Of course, when they transform in front of him, they arenāt so small anymore.
Despite having a caring family, food, and support, Peter is afraid of telling everyone who he is. The fear of overstaying his welcome keeps him up at night.
Not to mention, the Marvelās have the crime fighting down cold, meaning there isnāt really a home for Spiderman either.
I think a moment where Peter privately confesses who he is/where he comes from to Billy would set up the story. Now Billy realizes his new big brother is going through the same problems he went through with trying to fit in.Ā
As Captain Marvel, he tries to find the Marvel (haha) universe via the Rock of Eternity, but gets no results. Now Billy is afraid of telling Peter the bad news because heās pretty sure Peter is depressed and doesnāt want something to happen.
Billy starts subtly asking Cyborg at the watchtower about research into alternate universes because maybe science can succeed where magic failed
The opportunity for Spidey to shine comes when Dr. Sivana starts up a machine that drains magic and makes the Marvelās powerless. Queue someone with no magic powers but a lot of technical know-how to swoop in and show what he can do.
I feel something that could potentially happen is the machine backfiring and giving Peter some magical abilities as a result (I mean, the Marvelās are basically the sources of Earthās magic from what I can remember. Anything can happen)
From here, not really sure what could happen. I suppose Peter having to accept that he canāt go home, but is happy he can stay with the Vasquez family and still continue being a hero to his adopted siblings in and out of costume. Alternatively, the magic blast could shoot him back to the Marvelverse, with Peter being upset that he never got to say goodbye. (Spoiler: Captain Marvel now knows where the Marvelverse is and comes for a visit)

Writerly Questionnaire
Questionnaire by @davycoquette
This is a very in-depth questionnaire for writers, suitable for original fiction writers, fanfic writers, and people who aren't writing but who are messing around with OCs. It's a lot of fun and I'm glad I stumbled over it.
Original post here.
Thanks for the fun tag @rayless-reblogs! š„°
About You
When did you start writing?
There were a few active years as a teenager, but I truly got back into it five years ago.
Are the genres/themes you enjoy reading different from the ones you write?
I deeply enjoy reading lighthearted slice-of-life stories, but have no interest in writing them. However, science fiction and fantasy are genres that I love to both read and write.
Romance is something I like to read, but only nestled within another genre. The dedicated romance novels that I've read felt incredibly forced, although to be fair I've probably just read the wrong books. In the same way, I do like it when my own characters hit it off and find their way into a relationship on their own, but I've never written it as the purpose of the story. Not so far, anyway.
Is there an author (or just a fellow writer!) you want to emulate, or one to whom youāre often compared?
Most of my writing goes into sequential art these days, and there's not really another comic writer that I model myself after. (Composition and art style are another story, but they don't apply here.)
In private I've been writing more traditionally, if clumsily; but I happen to be surrounded by skilled, experienced writers whose works I've been looking at for guidance on occasion! ā„
I know this isn't quite in the spirit of the question, but I've seen people compare Kontext to GazKerber's delightful Final Fantasy VI webcomic, which makes me really happy.
Can you tell me a little about your writing space(s)? (Room, coffee shop, desk, etc.)
For the past month (and for another week or two), I write in a weirdly nice corner of a house basement. The basement is spacious, well-lit and my space has the furnishings of a nice studio (plants, wall decor, etc.). It looks like a lovely microcosm of a home office in the middle of a nearly vacant Wal-Mart.
Whatās your most effective way to muster up some muse?
Music, music, music! I'll put on my headphones, pull up a playlist on YouTube Music, head out the door and start walking. The brainstorming will take it from there. Most of the ideas I have were popped into existence by hearing some random tune, even when I wasn't looking for it.
Did the place(s) you grew up in influence the people and places you write about?
Not much; the media I grew up with has had a far greater impact.
That said, Fyo takes some inspiration from karate champion Rika Usami, primarily her hairstyle and fierce expression.
In addition, Carmine has several elements inspired by my sister: the same hair color, and Carmine's ethereal wings are a modified photograph of butterfly wings my sister keeps framed on her wall. This was as thanks for her helping with Carmine's initial costume design.
Are there any recurring themes in your writing, and if so, do they surprise you at all?
Well, there does seem to be a through line of characters defying the identity or behaviors expected of them. Not exactly untrodden ground, but I guess a theme like that shouldn't surprise me for obvious reasons.
Taking that further into the fantasy realm, though, I've also noticed that godhood and humanity are often compared and even put at odds in my stories? Not as clashing forces, but as opposing identities to embrace: what it means to be one as opposed to the other, and using them as a filter to determine what values genuinely matter to that person. More on that in the recurring character traits answer below.
Your Characters
Would you please tell me about your current favorite character? (Current WIP, past WIP, never used, etc.)
Right now it's far and away Carmine Pentella, a young but well-trained sorceress. Over a year ago, her sister and only family was murdered right in front of her, and the killer went free. Carmine's convinced herself that she's healed and moved on, but... let's just say that writing her is very cathartic right now.
Which of your characters do you think youād be friends with in real life?
Fyo is everyone's friend! She'll snare you if you happen to be in the room. Heath as well, probably. He's too energetic and enthusiastic for me not to like.
Which of your characters would you dislike the most if you met them?
This is from a WIP I've said nothing about, but the pilot of the Lucky Shot would intensely piss me off, I'd do anything I can to avoid speaking to her. She's an alcoholic with anger issues, so honestly a lot of people would take issue with her too. I like her as a character, but as a friend? No thank you.
Tell me about the process of coming up with of one, all, or any of your characters.
Fyo's almost an amalgam of everything I wish I were! To a fault, in fact. When the time comes for her to take the spotlight as the protag of Absolutus, I'll need to rewrite her into more of a character and less of a self-actualization checklist.
A big part of the reason for that is her inception: a dream I had many years ago. It was technically a nightmare, the world was ending "Hellstar Remina" style and being consumed by horrific monsters. But I was this capable, determined, unflappable woman who was single-handedly getting people to safety. In effect, the world was out of control but I was in control. And instead of myself, I was this mysterious dark-haired woman, who would later become Fyo.
But most of my characters began as vehicles for the story's needs, and then became fleshed out the more that I wrote them. Carmine's the biggest example of this: she was meant to be a one-off character in a single chapter so the story could give a crash-course in sorcery, but now I can't get rid of her!
As far as their details, I'll often pull from media or people I know in person, like Carmine as mentioned above.
Ayan Navarre is a funny case. He was specifically created to be a character who was innately above Ultimecia's usual mystique and intensity, in such a way that the two of them could see eye-to-eye even when she's in full The Sorceress mode. I named him after my favorite Rutger Hauer character and tried to give him a somewhat similar vibe (unsuccessfully), because honestly to me Hauer's the only person whose energy can match Ulti. XD
Do you notice any recurring themes/traits among your characters?
So... I've noticed that majority of my protagonists tend to be women of incredible power, often befriending children? Or failing that, just acting far more mundanely human than one might expect of their station. Like a demigod who's taken an interest in growing houseplants or going clubbing. The circumstances and degree vary, and the characters all have wildly different personalities, but yeah. Apparently I've got a trope.
How do you picture them? (As real people you imagined, as models/actors who exist in real life, as imaginary artwork, as artwork you made or commissioned, anime style, etc.)
For the most part, I picture them about how I draw them!
Well okay reverse that: I imagine them and then try to draw as closely to that as I can.
Your Writing
Whatās your reason for writing?
Hmm.
You know when you've read or watched that story that you were so intensely invested in, that the conclusion left you with a strange, lonely, existential melancholy that you were intensely grateful to be feeling? Those intense emotions that boil up from connecting to those characters as they overcome their trials and connect with each other?
I value that feeling more than anything. If any of my ideas have even a slight chance of passing that feeling to someone else, I'm going to move heaven and earth to put that out into the world.
And if that sounds cheesy, it's because I'm writing this at 4:37am.
Is there a specific comment or type of comment you find particularly motivating coming from your readers?
I've never read a comment that didn't absolutely make my day, but yes I have favorites:
Comments expressing love for a specific character, as a person. If my child means something to you, it makes them even more real to me.
Guesses about the story, or speculation about what will happen next. If you're trying to analyze the world-building and try to anticipate where the story's going, that tells me that you're seeing it as a complete world, which makes me feel like I've done my job well.
Oh, and this has happened a handful of times for Kontext and I started screaming incoherently every time: "I just binge-read your entire comic and I love it so much! By the way, what is Final Fantasy VIII? Should I play it?" (YES.) I release the white smoke whenever this happens, because it means the story actually does stand on its own.
How do you want to be thought of by those who read your work? (For example: as a literary genius, or as a writer who āgetsā the human condition; as a talented worldbuilder, as a role model, etc.)
I suppose I'd like to be thought of as a good worldbuilder? Well no, that's unreasonable when my biggest work is a fan project. Maybe I'd want to be known for writing characters that feel like real people.
But if I want one thing above all else, I hope my stories inspire someone to make stories of thier own. If it moves you enough that you get that feeling, and you're compelled to put more of it out into the world yourself, I think that would be the best thing of all.
What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?
This probably isn't much of a high mark, but I take pride in getting conversations to flow naturally, especially when it comes to banter bouncing back and forth. This is especially fun if the characters are physically fighting at the same time, because I like to make the fight a direct extension of the argument, which leads to some fun results.
What have you been frequently told your greatest writing strength is by others?
I've been told that the detail and flow of my stories are their greatest strengths, which frankly is a huge relief, because I get really frustrated with my own pacing!
How do you feel about your own writing? (Answer in whatever way you interpret this question.)
I frequently worry that my writing is too shallow, or doesn't evoke anything. This fear is made worse by the fact that my main project is in the form of sequential artāa medium that's often accused of being less in-depth than traditional literature.
But... overall, I'm proud of what I've done so far. The most important thing needed for me to enjoy someone else's story is if I like the characters, and I feel like most of my characters are very likable.
If you were the last person on earth and knew your writing would never be read by another human, would you still write?
Absolutely. In my opinion, seeing your own ideas put to paper or screen feels meaningful in a way all its own, even if you're the only one to see it.
Besides, if there's no one else on the planet, why not make friends with the people in your head? The story in there is bound to be more interesting than the isolation.
When you write, are you influenced by what others might enjoy reading, or do you write purely what you enjoy? If itās a mix of the two, which holds the most influence?
Oh I am self-indulgent as hell. Obviously I'm eager to read what people think and I hope that they enjoy it, but first and foremost I write (and draw) the things that I want to read.
Seriously, I was shocked when someone commented on the first pages of Kontext. I thought I was the only person on the planet who wanted to read about Sorceress Ultimecia pulling an all-nighter at a library!
That being said, on occasion I do consider what the reader might want to see. There's one major element in an upcoming chapter that I keep going back and forth on, because I don't know what readers' reactions will be.
No-pressure tagging:
@thee-lionheart @mereelskirata @alkonoststorm @irishais, @professional-fangirl2187, and a handful of friends that Rayless already beat me to tagging XD
As always, if you weren't tagged but want to try this, go for it!

Okay i was originally going to try to make a nice and neat little post about heartstopper and some of my thoughts, as well as a separate post about what i like about the comics vs. the tv show.Ā
Uh. So. I canāt actually corral my thoughts to be coherent enough for that, so here are some various assorted thoughts about it all instead <3 put under a cut bc it is long and rambley and a mess
[spoiler warning for the comics if you haven't read them]
Idk what it is, but I love comic Charlie a LOT. Like. A LOT a lot. There is just something about his character in the comics, his banter, the way he behaves that I love so much more in the comics than the show. I feel almost like the characters arenāt quite the same person, though I do love them both. I just connected so much more with comic Charlie.
Semi-related but I also feel like we get a much more clear picture of his OCD and the attached anxieties in the comics.Ā
HMMM okay or maybe not. Idk. I think maybe we can see more of Charlieās OCD in the show through his desire to make everything easy and perfect for Nick, even when it hurts him too.Ā
Heās popular in the comics!!! Itās mentioned multiple times by other characters that Charlie is popular at school!!! And I think thatās actually a really interesting look at his character. He was bullied for most of y9 and yet the rugby lads think heās a popular kid in y10. Despite this, we donāt actually see Charlie interacting with basically anyone but the other main characters, and I think that kind of reflects how Charlie views himself. On the way back from Paris, he asks Nick ādoes this mean Iām a cool kid now?ā he doesnāt think people see him as cool but like I said, other characters have said heās popular. They must have gotten that idea from SOMEWHERE right? But Charlieās own poor self-esteem means he still doesnāt actually believe heās cool or that people like him. I donāt know if there was a point to this rant but. Charlie is a popular boy.
I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE KIDS WHO STOPPED THE BULLYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, in the comics Charlie really is a nerd in a way he isnāt in the show. He helps Nick with his math and yells at him for distracting him from his homework. I get why this change happened in the showāit gives us a better idea of the strained relationship that Charlie has with his mom while also showing us that his dad tries to support him but often failsābut I really like it in the comics because Nick calls him a nerd but itās less obvious in the show how nerdy he really is.Ā
That said obviously I also ADORE getting to explore the other characters and their lives and everything in the show. I love getting to see more of them. (But I also love how we DONāT always get all the information in the comics, but thatās just because I love when there are background stories happening that we donāt see through the main storyline. This event/love is not unique to Heartstopper)Ā
I love Imogen!!! I really like that itās showing her as someone who is sort trying to become friends with the group and that isnāt always a fast or easy process. She goes to the sleepover with them and she hangs out with them in Paris, but sheās doesnāt leave Prom with them or anything. Also, I love the possibility that she is discovering that sheās queer too!! And that her halfway joining of their friend group leads to her discovering herself bc i feel like thatās so true to real life.
I am so curious about the Isaac vs. Aled thing and I wonder if Aled will appear in one of the later seasons, or if he is just not in the show at all. And Isaac! I assume heās in some extra content I havenāt seen? Donāt get me wrong ofc, I love Isaac and his storyline is SO SO IMPORTANT as someone who is asexual myself. I am so glad that there is the representation of someone discovering that theyāre aroace. I do assume thatās part of the reason for him being the 4th friend as opposed to Aled? Idk.Ā
IāM SO SAD ABOUT OLIVER BEING COMPLETELY OMITTED FROM THE SHOW!!! I assume there is an interview or something where Alice Oseman explains why Oliver wasnāt in the show, but I havenāt seen it and rn I will simply cry about it. I love him and I wish he had been included.Ā
I am also SO CURIOUS how the rest of the show will look!! I know that I read somewhere that s3 should be the contents of book 4, and that s4/s5 if they get them would be books 5/6 respectively. And Iām so intrigued. Because book 4 is the heaviest of them all so far, and I wonder how it will be translated to the screen. Especially the Sept-Dec timeskip! Will we see that time, especially considering the other characterās storylines??? This wasnāt an issue in the comics since they focus solely on Nick/Charlie, but with all of the other characters it would be more difficult to just skip that whole time. Will it just be a summary of events like in the comics, with flashes to what has happened? Or will we get a more explicit idea of everything?? (probably not including Charlieās sh relapses or the night in October, but maybe the This Winter content???) i am SO excited for October though so all my questions can be answered :ā)
OH something that was super interesting to me was a very small change in dialogue during the scene where Charlie first tells Nick about his sh. In the show, when Nick asks if he still does it Charlie just says āNo.ā but in the comics he says āNo! I mean- hardly everā and itās such a small change but it speaks volumes too in the difference between the comic and the show. Iām not really sure what itās saying though. Was show Charlie just more consistently in a better place where he feels like itās stopped and wonāt happen again? Was comic Charlie just more honest in this moment in acknowledging that it has still happened since? Iām not sure!!! But iāve spent WAYYY too much time thinking about this one tiny change in dialogue!!!
Another thing is like, I really liked how the comics handled Nickās dad. Them not meeting in Paris and then him missing Nickās birthday. It really hits hard exactly how negligent he is, and it gives space for Charlie to be there for Nick when heās upset. I do like how it went in the show as well, because it does still get everything across beautifully, but idk. I think mostly Iām just remembering the shot of Nick opening the door to greet Charlie on his birthday looking heartbroken and upset about his dad canceling and how hard that hit when i first read it. (keep in mind that i watched the show before reading the comics, so i was surprised at first to learn that they didnāt meet up in Paris! Let alone that he missed Nickās birthday TOO!!)
Okay I think thatās it for right now. I have largely been spinning comic Charlie in the microwave in my mind bc OUGH i relate to him too much. I will probably come back at some point with more thoughts, but until then. Hope you enjoyed my brief insanity.

Sonic Universe Online #52 Behind The Scenes!
Hello, everyone! Ā Boy, itās been a while since weāve done one of these, huh? Ā But considering we finally managed to release this issue after its nightmarish production cycle, we decided that it was a good time to bring theĀ ābehind the scenesā posts back. Ā Thereās a lot to talk about with this one, so get ready for a real doozy!
As usual, letās start with the cover. Ā We wanted to have Bunnie and Scarlett as the focus, and RocketPOW! went through several drafts of what that would look like. Ā In the end, we settled on having them playing cards in the bar from Sonic Maniaās Mirage Saloon Zone to fit with the desert theme. Ā Itās also worth noting that we had Jack on the cover at one point but ultimately decided against it, since the story focuses more on his lackeys than himself.
Before we start on the actual story, I guess we should begin with the elephant in the room: Bunnieās redesign.Ā Even though we technically first saw her new look in issue 51, we might as well go over it now.Ā Picking up from where the official comic left off, we knew that Bunnie had a redesign after being legionized, but the reboot happened before we ever got to see it.Ā And with the redesign of such an important character, obviously there was a lot of pressure to do her justice.Ā There was some old concept art by Tracy Yardley of legionnaire Bunnie, but we didnāt want to just take that and call it a day.Ā We had quite a field day with many of our talented artists coming up with their own interpretations of her redesign, including @miitoons, @riggo-draws, @drawloverlala, @fritzymagpies, Tim Campbell, CrimDa, DoNotDelete, and more that I sadly canāt remember anymore.Ā From the shape and function of her cybernetics, her overall color scheme, her clothing, her hairstyle, her weapons, etc., every last detail was meticulously gone over until we arrived at the final design taking what we liked most from each of them.
At first, we had gotten Tale to draw out the first several pages, and even though they were finished, he unfortunately had to step out of the issue and we had Gilgalad take over, better known as Thomas Rothlisberger, who we were lucky to have on the team before he moved on to the IDW Sonic comics.Ā For the sake of consistency (lol), we unfortunately had to scrap Taleās pages so he could redo those as well.
Hollyās sickness isnāt elaborated on in the actual story, but the gist is that sheās a snow leapord who was roboticized during the First Robotnik War.Ā But after the Bem deroboticized her while she was in the desert, her body became sick due to being stuck in the inhospitable environment, which is an example of how misplaced many of the former Robians were being sent far out of their natural habitats, and losing the protection of their robot bodies was actually a detriment.
A Sonic fan with a good eye for detail may notice that the guard who takes over watching Bunnie after Scarlett is actually one of the unnamed members of Infiniteās Jackal Squad from the Sonic Forces prequel comic.Ā Since this cameo may or may not go anywhere in regards to Infinite in ASO, we opted against using Infinite himself since heās too important of a character to pass off as a mere cameo.Ā If you want this plot thread to be expanded upon, let us know!
Since this is where we introduce Holly and her relationship with Scarlett, itās as good a time as any to discuss the process of their creation.Ā With Scarlett, we wanted to introduce a character who would serve as a foil to Bunnie, another person struggling due to their bedridden lover, but with diametrically-opposed views regarding cybernetics.Ā Her design was actually taken from a random Sand Blaster who appeared in a single panel of StH #218, who we decided to turn into a full-fledged character.Ā Although her species was unknown during her single appearance, we decided to make her a fennec fox.Ā On the other hand, Holly was an entirely new design that we came up with for the story.Ā The LGBT aspect of their relationship was actually the idea of my editor for the issue, The Shadow Imperator.Ā I stated in the interview after the issue that I was the one who came up with their names, but thatās not the whole truth.Ā There was a whole team effort dedicated to naming the two of them, before I suggested Scarlett since there was an abandoned plot point about how Bunnieās true name was at one point planned to be Scarlett OāHare.Ā Our Scarlettās full name is Scarlett OāFenn, with ShadImp being the one to suggest adding the last name as well.Ā But since her last name didnāt come up in the story, I apologize for forgetting to mention it.Ā Holly was also one of several names I came up with, which was agreed on due to the sort ofĀ āsnowyā feel it has to it.
In my initial draft for Scarlett and Hollyās conversation, I wrote Holly as being more openly pessimistic about her condition, outright stating that Scarlett would be better off if she was gone.Ā But since that seemed rather inconsiderate to Scarlettās feelings, ShadImp suggested that I tone it down a little and have her only mention feeling like a burden.Ā He was also the one to suggest that I make sure their romantic relationship is mentioned as explicitly as possible, so there would be no room for ambiguity that might lessen the impact of their sexual orientation.
Scarlett taking off her hat here wasnāt actually in the script I wrote, but it was a smart move by Gilgalad, showing her letting her guard down around the one person she can afford to do so with.Ā To put it simply, Scarlett offers Holly physical support while Holly offers Scarlett emotional support, so neither one is one-sidedly supporting the other.Ā This scene also demonstrates that even though Scarlett is easily the most level-headed and compassionate Sand Blaster weāve seen so far, some of the old bigotries and prejudice against cyborgs and robots that Jack instilled into her still remain.
Gilgalad had actually already penciled out the next couple pages, but since he wasnāt able to stick around for the full story, we decided that that the end of Scarlett and Hollyās scene was a good cutoff point for the drastic shift in art style.Ā Red Rabbit is an amazing artist with a style very similar to Patrick Spaziante, but it is still a jarring shift compared to most other artists on the project.Ā I had also originally written Bunnie mentioning not being very good at undercover missions, but when ShadImp brought up her successful operation tricking Battle Lord Kukku I changed the script to have her mention that instead.
At first, I was planning for the poker scene to have the characters holding cards that reflected their position in the conversation, such as holding a winning hand when they have the upper hand in the argument.Ā But since I have absolutely no knowledge or experience with poker, that idea ultimately didnāt come through in the final story. Ā This scene also serves to flesh out the Sand Blasters and show that none of them are blindly loyal to Jack. Ā Tex obviously has his own agenda, Avery just goes along with whateverās the least troublesome, Shift wants to get his hands on new technology, and Jolt does genuinely want the city to open up to the rest of the world.
You may have noticed that instead of rocket feet like her old design, Bunnie now flies with a removable jet pack on her back. Ā If youāre wondering how that wouldnāt burn her tail off, it was specifically designed so that the fire trails would shoot aiming away from her tail.
Originally, during the car chase sequence Bunnieās jet pack was just written to malfunction for no real reason. Ā But eventually, I decided to give it a more interesting explanation by adding in hints that Shift may have intentionally sabotaged it to trip up Bunnie, only to reveal that he was actually trying to fix it and he didnāt betray her after all. Ā This was also the portion of the story where Ink Pants took over for pencils, and then Lav after him. Ā Even though theyāre all fine artists in their own right, hopefully this will be the last time that we need to include so many drastic changes in art style to illustrate a single story.
We almost had one more shift in art style, with @gendeerfluidā penciling the last page.Ā In the end, Lav managed to finish that one as well, giving us a massive cliffhanger both figuratively and literally in the form of Jun Kun, the Iron King.
Thatās about it for this one, folks!Ā Thanks for sticking with us all this time, and look forward to the conclusion of this story next issue.Ā Until then, keep on juicinā!

meet patchwork. a very old Creepypasta OC of mine. I did have to change a few things because all her stuff was mainly on the old ijustwannahavefunn discord. so the closest I had was a weird character sheet.
Short summary: had a loving family, helped her mother with sew and looking after her little sister but mainly spent time helping her dad with logging when he took her. Dad goes missing, case goes cold. she falls into a depression which causes self harm. and given the time frame (if I remember correctly 1920's/1950's???) this would send her straight to the asylum, the asylum took little care of their patients, thus causing Irene to try and escape, but she falls into a coma due to her wounds becoming severely infected, due to the unkempt in her room, and the slowly growing black molds.
the doctors, thinking she died, decided to try cutting her open to see what was wrong, and if they could find a cure for later use. Irene, wishing her death would just end hear footsteps and a voice asking if she wants a restart...a chance to be whole again, a chance to not feel as much pain. to desperate to question it, she agreed, and woke up. finding herself sewn together, and cold. along with a new set of clothes in a darkened corridor where the doctors would take overly I'll or fallen patients... when she left the dark quarters, she found nothing of her world, her time. anything she remembered was gone. her house was abandoned, graffiti ed as mother nature reclaimed it. out of anger, and her sanity never the same. she lashed out at those who graffiti'd her home, and resides there...sewing things together. and trying to fix up her old broken home. she's whole again. but lost it all in the process. Fun facts about patchwork: 1. due to her body parts either being rotted or taken by wondering wild life, she has no guts. her insides are a giant hollow oozie mass. which gets black tendrils to sew fallen body parts back together. 2. while she cant regenerate limbs, she can sew them back together like a doll. and like doll, if you dispose of Destroy that limb, she can replace it... with the opposers or offenders limbs of course :) 3. the inky ooze mass that's mainly her guts and blood? well if hardened it could be used as a prosthetic. but that's harder to control due to lack of nerve endings. where as a replacement has severed nerve endings the mass can connect to and overlap to reshape as her own limb like nothing happened, she'll just have stitch marks on where her limb was taken off. 4. if she loses he head, same thing with the rest of her limbs, she'll try to find a replacement, and the black ooze will overlap and mold to look exactly like the original. however, she will lose memories and become more hostile than before, if the head is destroyed. same process and outcome If you try to burn her body. 5. Patchwork just want to be left alone. but due to her skewed memories of her little sibling, if a child runs through the forest near where she used to live. she leaves them alone, and if they get hurt or something of there's is either ripped or torn, she will come to the child's aid and fix it up. however if she has lost a limb or her head has been destroyed before, her hospitable nature can not be guaranteed. in short: leave her alone, don't destroy any of her limbs, and if your characters an entity of some sorts. be respectful. (she also had comically large scissors like the size of a short sword just because.) Inside joke: she's the creepypasta's tailor, so if lets say Slenderman gets his suite torn, he goes to her to fix it up.

some later acolyte thoughts:
+ darth plagueis aka hego damask ii my favourite fucked-up occult scientist, literally bred to be a sith, you utter bitch, welcome to the screen. i am becoming increasingly glad that all we got was the cameo because i'm holding the darth plagueis novel with a circle of salt around me so disney can't get at it.
- though that cameo makes this whole story kinda useless. it's a shaggy sith story. even moreso than i thought it would be. i'm taking mae's memory wipe as a half-win for my 'mae's going to die' prediction because who she was from 8-years-old onward did die.
+ cortosis is on television baby! not just the fuck-off big ascendant sword from the aphra comics, but part of top-level canon (don't try to tell me that's something left behind in legends no there are still obvious tiers of canon).
- can we stop with the whole 'omg the jedi are flawed that must mean that they're actually evil!!!111one' movement? 'what if one of you snaps?' says senator wearing-a-crimson-dawn-looking-pendant well sir it looks like you don't know the history of your own fucking government, which instituted sweeping changes at the last sith war (the result of one of them snapping. heeyyyy phanius/darth ruin) so that the jedi did not have access to armies, large-scale weaponry, etc. and that's at least the second time a schism like that's happened.
it's the senate. it's always the senate's fucking fault because this is star wars and it's always the government's fault. the senate is all 'oooh we should meddle with the jedi' the jedi go 'can u not?' the senate really, really wants to, so they dip a toe in the meddling pool and splash it around a bit, which send the jedi into a tailspin because they're unfortunately under the thumb of the senate and you get vernestra covering things up sorry i've may have been dooku-ing a bit too much.
+/- cortosis's new feature of literally blocking the force is new. the way it works in legends is that it messes up the feedback of the lightsaber and shuts it down that way (a lightsaber blade is more of a loop than an actual blade). sidious wouldn't have had it in his walls if it blocked the force, but here qimir just pops on the helmet and vanishes from vernestra's perception. aw, did someone not learn the quey'tak meditation correctly?
+/- the whole 'you are the same person' thing with mae & osha. is this actually true, given that it was sol saying it (authorial intent reads to me that we're not supposed to trust him because he lied about brendok), but the implications. the fuckery this could bring. a dyad is one person in the force (are the twins one? if they practised?), but what does that mean? you share powers, you can communicate across distances, extra powers, but two people being one is something incredibly fucked upādo they pick up each other's traits? are their minds slowly merging until they, literally, are one person in two bodies? 'always one, but born as two.' i mean really. (is part of the sith notion of it more in this flavour, in that the dominant one of the pairing would eventually take over like essence bleeding instead of transfer?)
+ lololol we're 2/3 for crystal bleeding being done like it's no big thing as opposed to vader's whole vision sequence when he's doing it.
- look. we get it. we know order 66 happens. we know what happens to the jedi. we don't need to be reminded of it constantly. you don't need to have characters in-text be ominously foreboding about it like they know it's going to happen.
- what was the point of having vernestra rwoh in here? like, three lines mentioning specific high republic things? they should've left it as it originally was planned, which wasn't to be part of the high republic storyline. because now it's hard not to read her āhe justified every selfish step he took with his love for your sisterā moment as a HEY VERNESTRA TELL US HOW YOU REALLY FEEL ABOUT ELZAR MANN moment. she's not on the high council, there's mention of a 'small council' but nothing more is given on that. is she supposed to be aligned with the shadows? no? yes?
+/- so qimir's basically a mix of kibh jeen and darth venamis, then, in the 'was a [jedi] before he turned to evil' (really. REALLY. the important thing about star wars is that it rhymes, not that it literally repeats) and 'poison-flavoured sith apprentice', respectively. darth dentabis or darth pharmakis it is, then.
