Me: okay time to read this "math wars" article my professor sent me
Me now that I have gone down the rabbit hole to understand the proposed math framework in California: I am ready to commit crimes
#it's SO BAD#so bad!!!!!#KIDS NEED PROCEDURAL FLUENCY!!!!!!#EVERYONE NEEDS PROCEDURAL FLUENCY#isabel.tex#school#also this math professor is right: the best way to make calculus more accessible is to improve/adjust k-8 curricula#such that students get algebra 1 in eighth grade#also sfusd apparently forced a bunch of kids who had already taken a uc-approved algebra 1 course in eighth grade#to retake it in ninth grade#hello?????#this was in like 2014 but still#*taken and passed i should clarify#oh! also there's these alleged data science courses proposed#as an alternative hs math path#that. bypass algebra 2? which is VERY NECESSARY for uh college level data science#so. yeah!

Hi ^^
Could I request a jungwon fluff, where he is a kinda shy and smart classmate from reader, who has a crush on him. (Reader is very social, has lots of friends, but still feels shy around jungwon but wants to Get to know him better) :)

path to the bookshelf â
Jungwon.
From the day he stepped foot into your school, youâd already started annotating a mental log of all his characteristics, interests, and other miscellaneous details.
So far, you had gathered just a few things about him.
Above all, he was an introvert with looks that both intimidated and captivated his fellow peers.
Contrastingly, you were more extroverted in school, though, Jungwon turned out to be one of the first people you ever struggled to approach properly.
He was cute, talented, and already making a name for himself in various subjects and extra curricular activities.
The only thing lacking from his seemingly seamless academic experience was a good friend, and you planned to be just the person who'd change that.
You called today âDay 14,â which marked Jungwonâs official first 2 weeks on campus.
One way you kept your social circle so big was by approaching everyone on your 14th day of knowing their existence, not any sooner or later than this.
Youâre not sure how you came up with this method, but it proved to be successful nonetheless.
Every student here was in favor of you, their precious social butterfly, flitting in from group to group with a contagious vibrancy.
Your peers looked up to your confidence and near-perfect people skills, and by now, they were all anticipating the moment youâd approach the mysterious Yang Jungwon, earning his companionship before the day was out.
The classroom hummed with its usual energyâthe clattering of chairs beneath desks, the rustling of thick textbooks against each other, and the occasional bursts of laughter followed by whispered jokes filling the space.
In the midst of it all, you sat quietly in your seat, gaze drifting toward the back row where Jungwon was... the boy whom for whatever reason decided to sit in the back of the classroomâŠ. the quiet genius existing in his own little world.
He had a way of making your confidence falter, and though part of you wasnât fond of it, it somehow attracted you to him even more. His shy smile, the way his eyebrows furrowed whenever he worked out difficult equations, or his habit of adjusting his glasses with a little sniffleâit all intrigued you.
As your interest in him soon developed into a crush, you made it your mission to befriend the boy who hid behind his textbooks, and who rarely spoke yet achieved high in all his accolades.
The bell finally rang for lunch, a cue for you to gather your courage before making your move in the cafeteria.
As expected, you found Jungwon sitting alone, your heart practically doing somersaults in your chest as you approached him.
âHi,â you greeted with a surprisingly steady voice, âmind if I sit here?â
Jungwon looked up at you through his glasses, eyes wide in shock that you had even asked him that. âUh⊠sure,â he stammered, shifting his books and lunch tray to make room for you.
At first, you two sat in companionable silence, the cafeteria noise fading into the background as you studied the stack of textbooks he sporadically flipped through while alternating between taking a bite of his sandwich.
âI hate to be clichĂ©,â you began, âbut whatâs your favorite academic subject?â
Jungwonâs sentence-highlighting hand paused at the paper as he blinked in thought.
New mental note unlocked: Jungwon has the prettiest hands youâve ever seenâ
âMath,â he replied, interrupting your enamored thoughts, âI enjoy solving problems. Itâs like... unraveling a mystery, I guessâŠâ
âYouâre a mystery yourself,â you teased with a smile, tilting your head at him. âAlways so quiet⊠keeping to yourself even though everyoneâs dying to know more about you⊠Youâve got this whole enigma thing going on...â
A glint of playfulness sparkled behind his shiny specs, your heart fluttering at his now blushing face. âI guess Iâm just not great at small talk,â he admitted timidly. âBut⊠I do like observing,â he went on, closing his books now that a conversation had started.
Operation Day 14 was off to a fantastic start.
âObserving what?â You repeated, leaning in closer.
âPeople,â he answered plainly, âTheir characteristics, interests, other miscellaneous details... Itâs fascinating.â
And incredibly familiar, you thought to yourself.
Just that easily, you felt a connection with Jungwon start to blossom.
âMay I ask what youâve observed about me then?â You challenged, the two of you now holding an intense eye contact.
âHmm,â he hummed in thought, deciding on one thing to say instead of rambling, âIâve noticed youâre intimidated by new things but nonetheless open to exploringâŠâ
âExplain that for me, pleaseâŠâ
He took another bite of his sandwich before speaking, âWell, youâre an extrovert whoâs comfortable with what she knows best, and thatâs socializing. Itâs what motivates you to succeed in class, sit with the quiet new kid at lunch, and so onâŠâ
You chuckled out loud, watching his lips curve into a smirk at the sound of your laughter.
âThatâs why,â he continued cautiously once you finished laughing, âapproaching someone like me⊠someone quiet⊠different⊠it was harder for you.â
âWoah,â you exclaimed under your breath, thinking of how well he read you just as easily as he'd read any other book in his field of vision.
âAnd youâre certain math is your favorite subject and not psychology?â
Now it was his turn to chuckle, a shy hand covering his mouth as his eyes stretched into pretty crescents.
âI uh,â he stammered, still getting over the giggle in his chest, âI like to be challenged when it comes to subjects⊠I often ask myself why favor something youâre already good at?â
You nodded at his words before continuing, âSooo⊠youâre bad at math?â
âTerrible, actually,â he admitted, a smile still faint on his features.
âWe should study together then,â you obliged, voice returning to its usually enthusiastic octave, âIâm not a math wiz myself, but Iâm sure our two minds together can think it through!â
His gaze fell to the tabletop, reaching out a hand to move your lunch tray closer to you as youâve been avoiding it this whole time.
âEat well, first⊠and then, I'll ask our math professor if we can maybe hang back to study in the classroom instead of attending the bake sale this evening.â
Smiling softly at his thoughtfulness, you opened your container of fruit and started to take a few bites, appreciating in your heart his efforts in arranging this little study sesh between you two.
âSounds like a plan,â you nodded cheerfully, looking forward to âthis eveningâ with Jungwon later...
â â â
Finally.
The math lecture came to an end, as a few of your friends waved you off as they went to join everyone else at the bake sale.
âI'll save you a cupcake, okay? Good luck studying!â One of your closest friends called out to you while waving goodbye, her pixie cut framing her radiant smile perfectly.
âAwww, thanks Nini! Have fun at the bake sale,â you returned warmly, watching her frame disappear with the cluster of other students bustling out of the classroom.
All except for you and Jungwon, who were given permission to stay back for an extra two hours to study the material.
âThank you, Mr. Ha,â Jungwon bowed graciously, just as the professor locked the door behind himself, leaving you two alone to study.
You helped by pushing two desks in front of each other to create a little table for you and Jungwon to study on.
Both of you had been studying for just over 1 and a half hours before you became absolutely sick of looking at functions.
âOkay, if I mix up the input and output in these equations one more time, I think I'm gonna snap every pencil in this classroom,â Jungwon sighed, leaning back in his seat to stretch his aching back.
âSame,â you huffed similarly, eyes not being able to stop themselves from staring at him, the golden hue of sunshine that spilled from the windows painting his skin a heavenly shade. âThat was a pretty aggressive statement coming from a shy guy like you, though....â
âShy, huh?â He repeated, quirking a brow at you, ây'just think youâve got me all figured out...â
âI could say the same thing to you about me,â you clapped back.
âSure,â he agreed nonchalantly, âbut itâs a well known fact that talkative people are always easier to readâŠâ
You shrugged at his words. âFine then. Tell me. What secret is the mysterious Yang Jungwon hiding about himself from everyone?â
âWell,â he started, now sitting back up as he leaned over the desk, forcing proximity, âthatâs not something I can tell you in one day, but for starters, I am anything but shy.â
âPlease,â you scoffed with amusement, âas if you werenât a blushing mess the entire time we talked in the cafeteria earlier.â
âYou say that like you weren't blushing, too, though?â
âBecause I wasn't... it was just the makeup making me look that way,â you corrected, trying your best to seem serious even though the grin on your face said otherwise.
âReally now?â Jungwon asked with feigned surprise, âAnd here I was thinking you were naturally pretty...â
âWow, you're hilarious,â you announced sarcastically, giving him a sassy look.
âDoes that surprise you?â He pondered, voice falling a tone or so deeper as his eyes keened in on your face.
âNo, actually⊠not even a little but,â you lied, just before your stomach fluttered at the playful smirk that grew on his face.
He thought on your words for a moment, watching as you started to put away your stationary before his voice stopped you in your tracks, âI bet by the end of the day, Iâll do or say something that surprises the hell out of you.â
Humming at his words, you continued to put away all your supplies, âGo for it, then⊠your confidence is applaudable, but I seriously doubt you'll win this little bet of yours...â
All he did was smile in response, his face reading an inaudible "We'll see" as silence soon followed his daring announcement.
Neither of you were ready to leave the classroom just yet, especially not with how much fun you were having talking so far.
That's when you both noticed how quiet the school had become with most of everyone being outside to enjoy the baked goods.
âDo you like anyone here at school?â Jungwon asked abruptly, scattering your inner thoughts back into the clouds.
âYou mean like... in a romantic way, right?â You asked, only for him to give you a non-verbal cue by nodding his head.
âWell,â you started, dragging out the syllable as you got ready to tease him, âheâs around our age so you might know him, but his name is Leehan.â
You smirked to yourself at the way Jungwon's face looked now, avoiding eye contact for what felt like 10 whole seconds before looking back up at you. âNever heard of him,â he lied, and you could see right through his adorable poker face.
âWhat about you then?â You returned curiously, âanyone special that catches your eye here?â
âYeah,â he responded almost instantly, âher name's Hanni... Hanni Pham.â
You felt your face drop at his words, âJungwon, thatâs my best friendââ
âYeah, and I could tell,â his voice trailed off cheekily, watching as you got up from your seat, approaching the door with haste.
âAnd where d'you think you're going?â Jungwon asked, not even turning to look your way until he heard you struggling with the doorknob.
âI'm... ugh... I-I'm trying to... shit, why won't this stupid door open?â
âOkay, relax before you break something,â Jungwon warned, getting up from his seat to join you where you stood, âlet me see...â
Click, click.
The doorknob twist and turned with his movements, but to no avail: you two were officially stuck in the math room together.
âYou have got to be kidding me,â you sighed annoyedly, the reality of your situation setting in quickly.
âIf you're in a hurry, wanna try escaping out the window?â He tried hopefully.
âNah, the fall would be too risky,â you replied, now standing with your hands on your hips.
âHmm. Maybe we should check Mr. Haâs desk drawers for spare key?â
Without hesitation, Jungwon slid past you, opening drawer after drawer in his brief search, only to find nothing.
âThey probably forgot weâre even in here by now,â you sulked, walking over to take a seat on Mr. Ha's desk, your arms bracing your exhausted weight behind you.
Sure, studying was tough, but the possibility of being locked in this classroom for longer than anticipated was even more tiring.
âWell⊠we could always go over our notes again in the meantime?â The feline eyed boy offered optimistically, voice trailing off as the sound of footsteps thrummed outside the classroom.
âWait, I think someoneâs comingââ
Before you could even finish your sentence, Jungwon removed his glasses and took your chin in his hand, guiding your gaze towards him before sealing the space between you two with a kiss.
Your eyes widened at his action, especially once you felt his free hand rest on your thigh with no intention on stopping just yet.
So you gave in, letting your eyes flutter shut as you tilted your head into the contact, the gentleness of his hands being enough to make your heart melt into this shy collision of lips.
Thatâs when you heard Leehan's voice, coupled with the sound of Hanni and your math professor mumbling at the door before it slung open.
âAre you guys oka- oh, youâre more than okay,â Mr. Ha stammered, turning his head at the sight of you and Jungwon making out on his desk.
Jungwon tore away from your lips with an almost embarrassingly wet smack, shyly meeting the eyes of the three people now taking in the view of this steamy scene.
âMr. Ha, we're so sorry forââ
âFirst kiss with the new kid, huh? Atta girl, ____!â Hanni interrupted with an enthusiastic cheer, âMaybe I should've brought two cupcakes, hehe...â
Meanwhile, Leehan stood in utter shock at the sight before his eyes, a pink hue flushing his cheeks as he struggled to find the right words. âI uh⊠I think Iâm just gonna go now,â he stuttered, slipping past Hanni and your instructor before leaving.
âFantastic then. Hopefully you two had fun studying in here because it'll never happen again,â Mr. Ha clarified, thankful that you were finally off of his desk and making your way down the hall with the rest of your belongings, Hanni, and Jungwon walking beside you.
âSo,â Jungwon started shamelessly, âsame place tomorrow?â
âDefinitely not⊠but I think you've at least earned a repeat at the library,â you smiled, Hanni not-so-discreetly eavesdropping as you two spoke.
âEarned it? How?â Jungwon asked, readjusting in glasses over his nose with a familiar sniffle.
âBy surprising me,â you answered plainly, giving his shoulder a playful nudge. âAnd you're a really good kisser, by the way...â
And there it was... that same pretty pink blush that rose to his cheeks whenever you flattered him.
You liked this Jungwon... the shy one with little to say and lots to share... all sticky notes and math equations...
But... you also liked the other side of him... the side that no one else got to see... all love letters and stolen kisses.
â â â
Fin.
I hope you guys enjoyed reading this lil piece here! Writing it made me realize that everything I've written for Jungwon has been only smut ;-; so it was really nice coming up with something more fluffy about him this time! And as always, feel free to request more stories like this anytime! Lots of love ~ â

With tourist visas for berry pickers suspended, the government is looking into alternative paths for foreign workers. On Monday, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment released a report assessing the economic impact of other employment options, according to Ilta Sanomat.
The report was based on a study conducted by Pellervo Economic Research PTT and the University of Vaasa.
The first option considered was employing berry pickers under a fixed-term contract. While this would provide them minimum wage protection and employment benefits, it wouldn't entirely prevent potential exploitation or debt in the workers' home countries.
The report stated that contractual employment would increase costs for berry companies, potentially forcing some to change their operations or exit the market altogether. This could lead to higher prices for domestic berries.
Another option was self-employment, but it wasn't deemed realistic due to language barriers, and the expense and impracticality involved in registering businesses in Finland.
"It's clear that neither solution alone would end exploitation. Both industry-led responsibility efforts and pre- and post-monitoring by authorities are needed," the final report stated.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment's working group also suggested a third option: adding the harvesting of natural products to the seasonal work regulations and creating an entry pathway for entrepreneur-pickers by defining berry laws.
The government is planning to announce proposals for new rules, and the changes are intended to take effect in the harvest season of 2025.
Tax headaches
Getting an inheritance in Finland could mean taking out a loan to cover the taxes, reports TalouselÀmÀ, citing a survey by insurance firm LÀhiTapiola.
The survey, which polled some 1,000 people, found that 46 percent of respondents had never received an inheritance over the inheritance tax threshold of 20,000 euros and did not expect to receive one.
Some 26 percent had received such an inheritance and 24 percent said they expect to receive one.
Of those who had received or expected to receive taxable inheritances, one in ten said they had to or expected to borrow money to pay the tax bill.
While most of those receiving an inheritance sell inherited assets to pay taxes, this is not always possible. Situations can become tricky when a surviving spouse remains in the family home, but the kids inherit a share of that house, triggering taxes.
"If one of the parents dies and the only inheritable property is the parents' shared home, the adult child has to pay inheritance taxes but may not have the funds to do so. The apartment cannot be sold without the widow's permission, and the situation can continue like this for years or even decades," Veera Lammi of LĂ€hiTapiola explained.
While recent reforms mean that inheritance taxes now don't go into enforcement for ten years, up from two years previously, unpaid taxes do accumulate late payment interest of 7.5 percent.
The insurance firm recommends those who accumulate wealth and want their children to inherit should ensure some liquidity is part of their estate, by holding some of their property in easily-sold assets.
That makes things much easier for those who inherit.
Dumbed-down textbooks
Helsingin Sanomat explores slimmed-down Finnish elementary school textbooks.
A 30-year-old elementary teacher compared his old fifth-grade books to those in circulation now. His findings were less than flattering.
"Less text and fewer words. Fewer and simpler assignments. Fewer calculations. The classics have been omitted from current textbooks," HS writes
The fifth-grade teacher told HS that he was astonished by how much expectations have come down in less than twenty years.
The number of math problems in Milli 5, the current 5th-grade math book, is two-thirds of the math book back in the early 2000s. Verbal math problems are also simpler now, according to the teacher.
When it comes to science, the passages are now shorter. In comparing units on the same subject, he found the current book explains the topic in 260 words, whereas the old one used more than 400 to cover it.
"Children nowadays are exposed radically less reading than during my school days," he told HS, adding that books today are more engaging and visually appealing than their predecessors.

What motivated you to study social sciences?đ
I was always sure I would go for mathematics, physics or any other scientific subject and pursue a career as a teacher, researcher or an engineer. But then I got to 9th grade i realised how much I liked civics but somehow I didnât pay much attention to that and chose advanced math and physics in high school.
After a few civics courses in hs I decided to take some more courses in it and decided to take a final exam in it too! In my last year of high school I decided that I wouldnât actually want a career in any scientific field so I dropped physics after 6 courses and my teacher was so sad about as I was one of the top students in our grade :â)
Spring 2018 I had huge troubles choosing whether Iâd put social sciences or law first on my application and contrary to popular belief I ended up choosing the first one and didnât even put law as an alternative. I love social science and political science is the one I enjoy the most and will major in BUT a part of me is wondering if I should try to re-apply for law this spring! After a few classes in jurisprudence Iâve noticed how much I enjoy it too!
But the reasons I chose social sciences is because Iâve always, even though subconsciously, been interested in the society and the complexity of governments and governance(that is why political science is my fave). It is field that gives you plenty of career options, all from being a researcher to a expert in governments and parliaments and even international organisations! Itâs such a broad field and everyone can find a path that suits themselves, and that is also one of the reasons why I got interested in studying it!
And this is a field that gives you a broader understanding of your surroundings but there arenât any right explanations so youâll never be bored because things are constantly changing and new theories and explanations will arise and the researchers are discovering new fields to research in! Iâm e.g. about to analyse a qualitative study where the researcher has conducted a research on young women's perspectives on public health knowledge and adolescent bodies!
And youâll get to meet a lot of different people with different personalities and perspectives on life and I have actually learned so many things about the world just in 5 months!

I am Freaking out Because I Can Not Look For A Roommate!
New Post has been published on https://baongoaihoi.com/i-am-freaking-out-because-i-can-not-look-for-a-26/
I am Freaking out Because I Can Not Look For A Roommate!
I am Freaking out Because I Can Not Look For A Roommate!
I will be just starting to freak out. I must submit an application for housing soon and I do not have roomie yet. I asked a buddy from senior school if she wants to space with me at college but she said no because sheâs residing regarding the honors flooring. However attempted to find some people via best place to buy an term paper an group that is online they all dropped through. Exactly what do I do if I donât find one?
Itâs difficult for âThe Deanâ answer this concern because youâve left out some key information. Have you been about to be considered a freshman? (weâm inferring yes.) Would you plan to survive campus (yes once again, I think).
If i have guessed correctly regarding the situation, howeverâm additionally guessing that the college or university provides a âRandomâ option that enables students to join up for a dormitory room without having chosen a roomie, then the housing workplace will assign one. Does your school offer this arrangement? In that case, itâs not as frightening as it may appear.
Numerous pupils who choose this method are only because happy using their results as those who opted to reside having a senior high school friend or whom found a roommate through Facebook or via another group that is online. If youâre ready to take âpot luck,â call the housing office to inquire of exactly how this works at your school. You may even be able to submit a questionnaire which will help the housing folks match you with someone who shares your preferences on such problems as cigarette smoking, bedtime or partying. If your university doesnât offer the official âRandomâ protocol, itâs most likely that the housing workplace maintains a list of names of other pupils who, like you, remain unpaired as well as on the hunt for a roomie.
If you fail to take the Random path at your university and in case the housing office refuses to assist you, compose straight back, and Iâll suggest other avenues to explore. But as freaked out as you may feel, you ought to simply take solace in realizing that we now have probably dozens (and even hundreds) of other people in your shoes, along with your college officials is going to be in a position to assist you to all to fix this puzzle quickly.
6 HS Seniors on What They want Theyâd Known About the Admissions Process
The college admissions process can be daunting at times, but you can relieve the worries by learning from those that went before you. University Confidential chatted to six graduating seniors and asked whatever they wish they would done differently through the process. Check out their advice below.
Never Compare Your Self to Other People
Donât get overrun whenever you hear the stats of other pupils in your school there is a complete much more to your admissions tale compared to the figures plus, you will find those who lie about their figures! I recall getting really stressed hearing about children whom stated they got 34 and 35 through the ACT junior year, and then I later discovered those kids really got more like a 28. I do not understand why everything is so competitive, but understand that not everybody is telling the reality, that makes it more confusing. Allison Midland, Ohio.
Have Quality Rec Letter Alternatives
I wish Weâd established closer relationships with additional teachers. I knew several teachers pretty well, nevertheless when it came time and energy to request recommendation letters, it might have already been good to have experienced a lot more options so instructors could actually speak about me personally in an even more way that is detailed. The main one instructor I knew the greatest that would absolutely have written a solid page for me personally finished up venturing out on sick leave before I had a chance to ask her for the letter, after which I was kept with a few instructors from extracurriculars who knew me personally well as well as others who did not know me well at all from core classes. J.T. â Michigan.
Focus on What Sets You Apart
I invested a great deal time during junior year consumed with stress about what everyone ended up being doing me to sound like everyone else that I ended up writing a generic essay that allowed. We thought plenty of my classmates had been the right U Maryland applicants in my essay, but I donât think it allowed me to show my individuality that I tried to sound more like them. That I was enough like everyone else to warrant my acceptance if I had it to do over again, I would write the essay highlighting how my experiences were shaped by my differences rather than trying to convince the school. T. Cromwell, Maryland.
Prepare Everything Early
I understand everybody already says this all the full time, but If only Weâd paid attention to the advice to begin then process early like summer time before senior early year. If Weâd started sooner, I would personally not have made mistakes in my own essay, and my letters that are rec have been turned in on time. The due dates arrived up on me faster than I expected and I sort of tossed my applications together. I wish Weâd had the time and energy to have made them perfect. John Tanner, Florida.
Never Assume State Schools Are Going To Be Cheaper
My parents told me we could only pay for prices that are in-state. We put on just schools that are in-state will be attending one. However a man I know whose stats had been a comparable as mine got sufficient merit money at a private university out of declare that it wound up being cheaper than the state school iâm going to be going to. I would personally much rather have kept their state and wish Iâd investigated some personal college choices where I may have gotten money. Erin F., Sc.
Understand the Prerequisites
Nearly every school has particular classes they want you to consume high school just before attend their university. I didnât do sufficient research on what those had been before applying. My stats lined up well utilizing the stats that accepted students at my goal university had. But I only took three mathematics classes in senior school and also this college necessary that all applicants simply take four. If Iâd known that, I possibly could have taken another but We applied with three maths and got rejected. C.F., Ca.

(5) and a couple times but a lot of my students are not into politics due to their religion and would âoptâ to not participate. And since weâre a personalized school, they could do that and I would have to find an alternate assignment so I try to find ways to avoid that but still incorporate a few things.I prefer Science to Math but I think because Iâve been teaching it for the past 3 years so itâs like something Iâm familiar with. But HS wise, I did better in math lol
Thatâs interesting. My English teacher would do this thing called Article of The Week where he would print out a news article about different topics (mostly politic stuff) and have us write a short 300 words response to it then discussed it in class. We just recently discussed Trumpâs immigration policies and the whole class was pretty split on do we agree with his strict policies or disagree with it. Although we do agree that there needs to be some change regarding system of citizenship.Â
Must be tiring for you to think up of a way to assign them an effective alternative assignment. I would die honestly. This is why I donât see my career path of being a teacher hahahaha History all the way for me. Everyone in my grade knows it. Every time I complained about me might possibility failing a WHAP test, they would all be like shut up because I have never failed a test once throughout this semester and I always get first place on our review game rip
