hiiiii ashton <333 I know we've talked about it before but I recently was on a video and saw some comments that angered me and you know I ship leyton and brulian too but I just wanna hear your thoughts because you always give the best ones!! why do you personally prefer brucas over leyton? why don't you ship leyton? and what do you think about the comments from people saying how leyton were always supposed to be endgame even though s2&3 it certainly didn't feel that way!! and about the comments saying that chopia breaking up had nothing to do with it even though they broke up before brucas actually got back together and they could've very easily not put them together after chopia broke up if they wanted to lol I'm just very curious about your thoughts and don't really wanna discuss it in messenger tbh this is easier so I get all your opinions lol I love you so much and you always give the best responses and answers when I ask you things!! 💞💞💞
I literally don't, but thank you for saying that 💙💙 First things first, I did ship Lucas and Peyton in the past. So on some level, I understand the appeal because I also fell for them when I started watching One Tree Hill. Truth be told, one day I just snapped out of it. Before season 6 even premiered, I was watching my season 5 DVD and finding myself frustrated with the LP story line while appreciating the dynamic between Brucas. Anyways, since then I've watched every episode multiple times and analyzed both by myself and sometimes with others why exactly I don't root for Leyton and prefer Brucas. To me, they're representative of a lot of tropes that will never be my favorite. Meant to be from the pilot couples are always going to be a hard sell. The chemistry had better be something special and the ongoing story needs to be more than, "I immediately know you better than everyone else in your life after having a handful of conversations." There are always exceptions to this rule. Sometimes I fall for the ship fast (Stelena, sorry). Other times it takes until nearly the entire first season or until the second (Ephram/Amy from Everwood, Max/Liz from OG Roswell, Spelivia) for me to get past the beginning and appreciate what the couple is at the heart of it. Needless to say, this sums up Leyton (derogatory). So much of their connection is told to the audience rather than shown. From day one, it's automatically clear that this is the couple to root for. Their only real obstacle, Nathan, is a comically terrible, borderline abusive boyfriend, so the fact Lucas in early season 1 is the anti Nathan pushes him incredibly hard as Peyton's ideal match. Once Brucas starts up, there's an immediate difference in energy and chemistry. Both Lucas and Peyton take themselves so seriously. It's always deep feelings and angst and brooding and "oh, we want to be together, but the circumstances are just too hard." And meanwhile, it's only like episode 9. Brooke has deep feelings and her own insecurities, but on the outside she doesn't take life super seriously and is someone who acts rather than internalizing everything. Brooke's influence on Lucas's life feels like a breath of fresh air. Lucas begins to loosen up and see that there can be more to life than his preconceived ideas of how the world works and how everyone should be acting. On Lucas's end, he encourages Brooke to develop her intellectual side and see that she has so much more to offer than being the life of the party and someone who gets validation from sleeping with a lot of guys. Lucas is the first person Brooke wants to get serious with. Even better, this is a story line we actually get to see play out. When Lucas and Brooke talk about what they like about each other, it all tracks because we've been watching their attraction bloom and seeing how in a lot of ways, they're at their best together. Sorry, this is getting long. This is all solely based on season 1. By the end of the season, Lucas and Peyton cheat for the first time. This sadly becomes a pattern for them. Brooke is emotionally devastated. And though Lucas immediately seems to feel guilt over hurting Brooke, it takes him time to see how far he's strayed from the type of person he wants to be.
Season 2 is a massive gamechanger for Brucas. This is the first time they're truly able to be friends. Without the expectation of a relationship, Brooke and Lucas are able to connect on a deeper level. Yet again, this is something shown to us rather than told. This is the kind of relationship both took the time to develop. Much like in season 1, Lucas encourages Brooke to invest in her more intellectual, soulful side. Lucas himself works on being more selfless, taking the time to improve as a person. Unlike when Lucas pined for Peyton while she was dating Nathan and embarked on an affair during his first relationship with Brooke, this time Lucas allows Brooke's relationship with Felix to play out without any interference while still being a friend. Lucas is aware of his own feelings, but he also knows how badly he hurt Brooke in the past and has no reason to think a second chance is even a possibility. When Lucas kisses Brooke after months of close friendship and opening up to each other emotionally (albeit with Brooke understandably on guard post cheating and Lucas hiding his rediscovered feelings), it feels earned. The third season is a mixed bag. At its best, season 3 Brucas is a perfect mix of seasons 1 and 2 Brucas. Both seem to be equally emotionally invested in the relationship working out and view each other as basically their endgame. But the fun and the lightheartedness exist, as well. Brooke is still someone who brings light and fun to Lucas's life. On Lucas's end, it starts to get murky as the show gets closer and closer to the shooting episode. After spending so much time veering away from the possibility of Lucas and Peyton together with emphasis on Lucas's love for Brooke, the strength of the Brooke/Peyton friendship and even how Lucas and Peyton are actually able to be platonic, healthy friends themselves, everything gets destroyed so that the show can return to Leyton. On the one hand, it's not as though it's totally out of nowhere or implausible because again, the narrative went so hard in Leyton's favor during the first season. But at the same time, it doesn't feel believable to me when it finally happens. Lucas seems to flip flop from getting past his breakup with Brooke to declaring Peyton is the one he wants next to him when his dreams come true in mere seconds. The writers LOVE to make Lucas in denial about his feelings for Peyton. Past the first season, we don't get Lucas pining for Peyton. We just don't. We got Lucas pining for Brooke during season 2 and part of 3 and even Lucas wanting Lindsey back after she leaves him at the altar, but for the lion's share of LP's history, it's Peyton desperately wanting Lucas and somewhat being willing to sacrifice everything just for the chance of being with him. So because of this, Lucas becomes an almost passive love interest where he's told over and over again what he should want and what his true feelings are until he just kind of.. says fine, choosing Peyton. That alone is why I prefer Brucas. It's the more compelling story line and relationship. Plus, the chemistry.
And I hate to do it, but this vs this:
Chemistry is unpredictable, always up for debate, and shouldn't always be the deciding factor in what a person ships. My shipping preferences have been all over the place in this area. But when the writing is lacking and the chemistry isn't really selling the story either, these moments that are supposed to be powerful and come across as passionate somehow come across as phony and put on. In my opinion, Chad and Hilarie had buddy chemistry while Chad and Sophia had the passionate, in love type of chemistry due in large part to literally being in love and married in real life.
As a viewer, I really resent being told that Lucas was simply denying his true feelings for no other reason I can think of except maliciousness when he spent basically two and a half seasons wanting Brooke over Peyton. The romantic relationship with Lucas and Peyton during seasons 4 and 6 seems like the healthier option on the surface, but it comes back to how I feel about Lucas as a passive love interest and Peyton's arc being so wrapped up in whether or not she gets the guy. This is pretty much spelled out towards the end of season 3. During a conversation between Brooke and Peyton, Brooke confides in Peyton that during Lucas's absence she realized that she wasn't as reliant on his physical presence as she thought she'd be. From Brooke's perspective, all this means is that Brooke is somehow capable of loving and being happy independently of the man she loves. But on One Tree Hill, this is supposed to imply Brooke either doesn't truly love Lucas, is falling out of love with Lucas, or that Peyton loves Lucas more because she doesn't desire independence outside of him. It's a gross message to say the least. This brings me full circle, back to season 5. Between seasons, Lucas proposed to Peyton and broke off the relationship when she didn't accept his proposal. Objectively speaking, not the worst thing in the world and a valid thing to do if this is a deal breaker. But this causes the Lucas/Peyton relationship to be heavily imbalanced and in Lucas's favor over Peyton's. Lucas stops feeling like the kind of person who follows his heart and more this desperate guy who wants to marry someone to the point the bride doesn't actually matter. If I go along with the idea that Lucas was in love with Peyton throughout the intervening years, throughout season 5 and for the entirety of his romance with Lindsey, what does that say about Lucas? One, he's the kind of guy who is so out of touch with his own emotions that nothing he says should ever be trusted. Or two, he's an asshole and will willingly commit himself to another woman under false pretenses just because he didn't get what he wanted from his first choice on his terms. Peyton's love for Lucas is meant to be undying and unconditional, causing her to behave in such selfish, desperate ways. Lucas, on the other hand, proves that his affection for Peyton is very conditional. He's not willing to compromise. He doesn't want to wait around for Peyton to catch up with where he is.
And in the mean time, Lucas bouncing between Peyton and Lindsey actually means season 5 Brucas is a very good alternative for Lucas. It's all very unspoken, but the chemistry and the connection between Lucas and Brooke never goes away. Much like in season 2, the possibility of romance is very much off the table. Brooke returns to Tree Hill not to win Lucas back, but because she misses her hometown and sees herself settling down there. Because nothing is being pushed on either end, it's much easier for adult Lucas and adult Brooke to be friends in a way that's impossible for Lucas and Peyton. They're able to relate to each other outside of high school and their past romance. A flashback reveals that Lucas was the first person Brooke told that she wanted to have a baby. During the time Brooke is taking care of Angie, Lucas becomes the kind of person Brooke can depend on and lean on for emotional support. Even outside of season 5, there's a consistent theme of Lucas being the best, most selfless version of himself with Brooke. It's as though Brooke's influence in Lucas's life mixed with their season 1 history almost demands that Lucas be better when they're together. Both Brooke and Lucas are in the place where they're looking to settle down. In a moment that's kind of a contrast to season 3
Unlike in season 3 when Lucas was trying to fight for Brooke but kind of clueless when it came to working out what she wanted from him, this time Lucas realizes that no matter how strong Brooke seems to be, she needs him to show up for her. There will always be endless potential for season 5+ Brucas, in my opinion. Their strong bond and complementary desires for a future shine through even as the narrative reminds us over and over again that Peyton is the one who loves Lucas most and that anything that isn't about Peyton is merely "denial" or Lucas "hiding his heart." Anyways, Lucas literally fantasizes about marrying all of his major love interests, Brooke included. The dream sequence wants us to believe Brooke and Lucas want very different things, making them fundamentally incompatible. The entirety of seasons 5-9 disagrees with this, but Lucas still ends up with Peyton.
When it comes down to it, I don't like the people Lucas and Peyton are around each other. As friends, it's mostly okay. They certainly share common interests and Peyton lacks the trust issues Lucas's other girlfriends have considering she's always the other woman. But.. so much of their love story comes across as incredibly forced with so many holes in it. Their arc throughout the first six seasons does NOT hold water. Peyton isn't allowed to be a fully fleshed out person with goals that don't perfectly align with becoming Mrs. Lucas Scott. Lucas holds all the cards, resulting in him becoming far more selfish and almost childish in the way he acts like season 1 Lucas who is still butthurt his crush didn't want to commit to him after one make out session. Even in the final season, I don't see much if any growth. It's the final season for both characters and the show played out the beats of broken up Leyton, so they're put back together. So much of what happens between Lucas and Peyton is heavily reliant on the idea of everything coming full circle without any regard for how one or both have changed since then. Brucas doesn't have this problem. If nothing else, Brooke and Lucas's relationship goes through multiple changes, with each phase feeling much more mature and deeper than the one before. Even though their past and Brooke's trust issues are recurring problems, their actual dynamic always remains in the present.
As for your last question, I'll never know for sure what discussions were like behind the scenes circa seasons 2 and 3. But based on how season 2 played out, I think there's a very good chance the endgame shifted. The underlying tension and romantic affection between Lucas and Peyton was completely gone. Lucas realized he wanted to be with Brooke and never seemed to consider Peyton. Even Peyton, who has ambiguous moments that refer to possible feelings for Lucas even before the shooting, doesn't have this during the second season. She spends far more time pining for and loving Jake. When Peyton expresses displeasure over her relationship with Lucas, it's that he hasn't been the kind of friend that shows up for her emotionally. Lucas's response to this is to bring Jake back to town LOL. In terms of season 3, it gets confusing. Chad and Sophia didn't separate until multiple episodes into the first half of season 3. Meaning, the groundwork was already being laid for Brucas's failed friends with benefits/casual relationship to become a deeper romantic one even before Chad and Sophia split up. But at the same time, Lucas's friendship with Peyton was also being prioritized again with more references to their romantic past coming up outside of Brooke's insecurities. So with that in mind, it seems like LP was a possibility even as Brucas was rebuilding their relationship. However, I think the Chad/Sophia split permanently closed the door on any legitimate Brucas once their season 3 arc was completed. Personally, I don't think Peyton ending up with Lucas was set in stone until the end of season 3. Had Chad and Sophia never split up, I definitely think we would have seen another round of Brucas at some point because the chemistry alone would have demanded it. Plus, the gross producers capitalizing on the real life Chad/Sophia romance. In a universe where Chad and Sophia never broke up, my gut says Lucas ends up with Brooke. But nothing is 100%. To sum up my thoughts, I think there was a plan in place during season 1. I think another plan emerged during season 2. In season 3, the endgame was literally up for grabs. But Chad and Sophia's breakup sealed the deal.
I love you, too! I'm so sorry for making you read all this.

Do you think Klaroline was a ship with an agenda?I'm convinced the only reason the writers decided to explore Klaroline was in order to get Caroline to shut up about correctly calling Damon out so they could push Delena forward. Like It's basically there so that when anyone wants to bring up Damon's abuse towards Caroline in the past, the show can just say "WELL what about Caroline and Klaus?!" You know, diminishing Caroline’s genuine dislike against Damon, by making her a hypocrite.
So annoying. Would love your thoughts
Honestly? No. Because the writers write Caroline's dialogue. They don't need to do something as elaborate as pair her with Klaus as well as give her lines calling out Damon so the fandom could call her a hypocrite, they could've just stopped giving her lines that called out Damon, which they eventually do in the later seasons anyway and she just becomes one of their champions. It's not like OTH for instance where Peyton kissed Lucas while he was with Brooke for a second time and Leyton got together essentially immediately after Brucas broke up and then suddenly there was a sex tape of Brooke and Nathan, which was clearly put in the show so Peyton wouldn't look too bad and Peyton could be like you slept with Nathan!
I just think KC was fan service.

Drukkari vs Ikersi, Why?
(Eternals Spoilers)
At the risk of becoming very unpopular and having people chase me down with flaming torches and pitchforks I am going to be honest and say, I don’t get the whole Drukkari vs Ikersi thing. To be clear I’m not hating on drukkari, they are awesome and I’m not saying you have to like ikersi but I have seen so many posts saying things like ‘why did they promote Ikersi when Drukkari is better’ or ‘how can they want us to ship Ikersi when Drukkari are right there’ and to be honest that leaves me like
because nobody is expecting you to ship one over the other. Marvel didn’t drop these two ships in front of you and then go ‘now you can only like one’. It makes no sense at all for these two ships to be pitted against each other. Like with bughead vs barchie, for example, I got it because it is a love triangle where one ship stands in the way of another the same with other love triangle ship rivals like delena/stelena, brucas/leyton etc, but drukkari and ikersi have nothing to do with each other so I really don’t understand the logic behind feeling the need to hate on ikersi because you like drukkari. I’ve actually seen people say things like ‘I don’t ship ikersi, I’m a drukkari fan’ and I’m just like ok but what's being a drukkari fan got to do with not liking ikersi? In some ways I find it kind of intriguing because I have never seen this before in any other fandom, I’ve never seen so many people pit two completely unrelated ships against each other like this before, its so bizarre to me. It’s like if someone tried to pit naley against leyton or if we go with a marvel one it’d be like pitting Tony and Pepper against wandavision. I’m sorry but it just doesn’t make sense no matter what way I try to look at it. Ikersi and drukkari don’t even have similar relationship dynamics, one is a fun flirty haven’t even got together yet kind of thing and the other is a long term relationship that broke down but have now find themselves in the same space again and are trying to figure out how they feel about each other. The only thing these two relationships have in common is that they are in the same movie. As for why did they promote ikersi and not drukkari. Well I kind of figured that was obvious once you’ve watched the movie. Its because Ikersi’s relationship is an integral part of the plot, without it the entire ending of the film would have to change. Without it they have to find another reason why Ikaris allows the emergence to go ahead and seeing as they were going with the whole love conquers all thing they needed to make sure people understood that Ikaris loved Sersi in order for that decision to make sense. As much as we all love drukkari if you remove their relationship dynamic from the movie it would change very little about the plot. Sure it would have taken some great moments out the the movie but the story wouldn’t have changed. Drukkari was there as a nice surprise for the fans, from interviews we know the relationship was intentional but there seems to be this idea that they wanted people to like one ship more than the other, like its a competition, its not they wanted you to like all the ships that’s why they wrote them all in. Each relationship brings its own message and dynamic with it. It’s also interesting to me that there’s all this drukkari vs Ikersi stuff going on but I’ve not seen a single person try to say drukkari is better than thena/gilgamesh or Phastos x Ben. Where are all those posts because I mean if you are going to pit drukkari against Ikersi it makes just as much sense to pit them against all the other ships too right?
On a more serious note though, as I said above, I’ve got no objection to people not liking Ikersi and I don’t want people to mistake this as hate for drukkari because I love drukkari, but I don’t think its necessary for people to celebrate one ship by tearing down another that has no connection to the ship you are celebrating. Also a polite request but if you are going to make a post that is negative about ikersi or talking about how much you love drukkari and hate ikersi can you please stop tagging that in the ikersi tag. It’s really not fair to those of us who do like ikersi to have to see negativity and hate in the ship tag. I remember when it used to be considered tumblr etiquette to tag negativity as anti. So unless its a post talking about how wonderful Ikersi is and how much you love them please refrain from tagging it as ikersi or ikaris x sersi. It's just the decent thing to do really and it makes no difference to you if you don’t tag it or tag it as anti.
Anyway its like late, very late where I am and I’m sleep deprived so going to stop rambling now. But if anyone does figure out why drukkari vs ikersi is a thing come let me know, I am genuinely curious as to why its a thing.

Did you get to the episode where they addressed that people were upset with them talking about Lucas/the triangle? They basically said they love the characters and the relation but they are also viewing a lot of the story through the lense of knowing some of the plot points are manifestations of the sleazy writers and show runner they were arguing with behind the scenes. Idk I love One Tree Hill but I didn’t see any of it as hateful or anything, I understood where they were coming from. But I also listened week by week so maybe it would feel different if you’re binging it.
No, I didn't get to that episode yet. I am only on episode 13. I'm glad they address it, though.
I know they mentioned from the beginning that some of the writers/producers were trying to pit them against each other by telling them all different things, and I can understand them watching it (presumably for the first time) and having flashbacks of the struggles they had. I just really think they're being a bit too harsh and they keep saying that the show was like "SEX IT UP, SEX IT UP!" and tbh the show is pretty mild, especially compared to the shit you see nowadays. But I also know they dealt with a lot of shit behind the scenes so their commentary is probably a direct result of what they went through, but it reads as them just shitting on the characters.
I understand Sophia feeling uncomfortable with some of the shit she had to do, especially in season one because her character wasn't really fully developed until the end. And I can understand Hilarie as well, but honestly she was very uncomfortable with a lot of things. I'm surprised she didn't get fired, but I guess they took it out on her in different ways, like by never letting her character be happy. Like, honestly, it's just tragedy after tragedy with her.
I didn't really say it was hateful, just that I found it to be very exhausting, grating, and a little too harsh. I will continue to listen to it and see if it gets better, but I just think there's a lot more interesting things to be said about these storylines and so far it's just "OH MY GOD, I HATE THAT, I HATE THIS! Fuck Brucas! Fuck Leyton! We were robbed!"
#anonymous#answered#I think a lot of it comes from them actually being the ones on screen#so it's different from other rewatch podcasts bc the person doing the analyzing isn't also the person that acted out the scenes

okay here are my two cents, not everyone’s cup of tea but here we go
the article is real. yes, it’s not well written. yes, everything sounds like a fever dream. but this show has been a clusterfuck for years and now they managed to touch the one good thing they had going on (their solid core four ships) that are about to become a clusterfuck too.
however, the reviewer who wrote that seems to be VERY b*rchie biased and literally gushed over the ship happening all over the recap, not stopping to actually talk about what it means for bughead and varchie, or veronica and jughead. they ignored the glances that we know from the stills the core four shares (bughead and varchie), and only said “veronica looks at archie” / “jughead looks at betty” and enhanced b*rchie glances again. whoever wrote it likes the idea of b*rchie so we can’t trust it completely.
cheating SUCKS. sucks, sucks, sucks. however, it’s not the first time it’s used as a plot device to shake things up in a teen show. it won’t be the last. riverdale thrived on the stability of their core ships but they probably wanted to shake things up while simultaneously catering to another part of the fandom, so there you go.
i understand if you’re a thrown off by cheating but (and that might be controversial) i don’t think this invalidates bughead’s or varchie’s journey. the writers have failed to show us why b*rchie would be “confused” to a point that they’d cheat on their significant others (and that’s where the story diverts from other triangles/quadrangles from other better written shows) but this is just another storyline they’re pulling out of their asses too quickly. either way, it doesn’t change what happened so far for varchie and bughead. it’s “the darkest storyline” that you can and should ignore.
this is not real life so if you feel like “forgiving” archie or betty for doing this, it’s okay, it doesn’t mean that you’d be a cheater on real life or that you’d condone this attitude. also, when in doubt, go with the characters reaction: if jug and veronica do forgive them, and you still like the ship, why wouldn’t you?
it’s also okay if you want to jump ships or to leave the fandom. do what’s best for you!
what matters more to me right now is: how will they follow this up? what will happen afterwards? are b*rchie going to honest? are they engaging on an affair (sounds crack but)? are they honestly just going to choose jug and veronica and that’s it? does it mean anything for real, or is it just a thing that happens in the musical, a “showmance”?
we can only expect bad writing, so i don’t think we can expect archie or betty to tell their secret to jughead and veronica. with the tapes thing going on, i feel like they will go back to their relationships and ignore this ever happened, when someone leaks a tape that blows up the core four. and we initiate season 5 with the core four all split up. with a time jump, many things can be forgiven and it’s a set up for angst.
it’s a weird thing that this episode is using ALL of the b*rchie cards and trumphs wrapped into one. flashbacks for kiddie stuff? pilot reminiscing with a song about mistakes and goodbyes? window scenes? “longing”? er... if i was a b*rchie shipper i’d be wary. it’s a huge b*rchie sandwich and it could literally be giving all possible content so they never visit that again. also, i, for one, am glad that these flashbacks are happening now and not in episode 18. maybe they want us to believe b*rchie have been waiting for each other but we just won’t believe it and the writers are on crack but they know their audience, don’t think they don’t.
let’s not blame the cast, reviewers, or even the characters that have existed for 78 years on this bullshit story line.
maybe i am too detached from canon, or maybe i have seen enough shit (that always, inevitably, hits the fan on the fourth season) with my other ships to feel really upset. thing is, i have always been on the loser side of the cw shows before, but that was always the smallest fanbase (with brucas, stelena, dair, etc) and i’ve always watched the big fanbase win over the small fanbase regardless of the writing or continuity. this time we, the bughead and varchies, are the big fanbase. we can boycott, be heard, let them know we hate it, that we won’t watch, and they will listen. the cw has fired producers for that before, and riverdale is the cw’s cash cow. let them know that you hate and don’t watch, especially if you live in the USA.
i know it’s hard to even think about your ship in a good way right now but remember that the archie comics characters have been around for decades and that this isn’t their only universe. which means, you can still love your ship and ship them in the comics or, especially if you want the riverdale timeline, content fans create for you. it’s really the time to support your fanfic writers, fanartists, gif makers, video makers, etc. this is the time we come together as a big community and support each other until this is over.
the fanfics you read, keep reading them. they don’t have any relation to the source material. the arts and gifsets you reblog, keep reblogging them. keep stanning your version of your ship, this is what’s going to matter in a few years from now when the show is over and there’s nothing more to “feed” from.
be respectful to your fellow bughead and varchie shippers now. i guess this is crucial. we can win this war TOGETHER, but not apart. it doesn’t matter that you think archie is the fuckboy that should die - don’t say it to a varchie shipper. it doesn’t matter if it pisses you off that betty always gets excused - don’t say it to a bughead shipper. let’s be friends, let’s stick together, this is the writers fault, and archie and betty as characters also deserve better.

Just wondering what some of your favorite One Tree Hill episodes are? I love most of the season finales and nearly all of Season 3 :) I think the most rewatchable episode for me might be the one where they're all in Rachel's cabin in the woods for a few days, as weird a choice as that probably is. We get such subtly great, domestic Brucas moments, the stuff with Haley's "lost" wedding ring is awesome, I adore Mouth, a couple of great Nathan/Lucas moments, and it's just really fun to see them in a woodsy setting. It's all just such a good combination of humor, emotion, romance, etc. Not even the thing about Peyton kind of dating the guy from Fall Out Boy annoys me in this episode :)
I love that episode too!! when the fall out boy song starts playing at the end I always get teary-eyed, but my favourite is the cheerleading competition in s3. There's just sth about brooke realising that she doesn't have to grow up too fast that I love and the last scene where they're all dancing is so nice. I remember crying the first time I watched it!
I also love the rain episode with the naley + brucas moments, nothing will ever top "if you need to hear why I love you, I can go on all night" and nathan showing haley the newspaper articles :') I also like peyton's scenes with her mother, isn't it the episode where she says "every song ends, but does that mean you can't appreciate the music?" or sth like that, it could be another episode though I'm not sure.
I think these are the episodes I rewatch the most: 1) the cheerleading competition, 2) the cabin in the woods, 3) the rain episode. they're all in s3 because it's my favourite! I also like the s2 mid-season finale (when jake comes back) and the episode in s1 where brooke calls lucas to help her with peyton at the party and then they stay up all night talking.
#ask#oth#sorry that was a little long#i could talk about my favourite oth episodes for hours 😅#sometimes i also just rewatch episodes for the soundtrack lol

12 + brucas (maaaaybe)
12 ⧽. gently placing their jacket over the other’s shoulders when they get cold.
SO TRUE. I’ve never formally written for them before so this should be fun!
—
Brooke Davis dressed for herself, not for the weather. And sure, maybe it wasn’t the smartest idea to be wearing a super cute, super short, super sparkly mini skirt with her absolutely adorable equally sparkly tank top and fabulous open toed mules, but the occasion had called for it. Any party she went to, she would be the best dressed there. She had a reputation to uphold, and she would be damned before she let her picture perfect crown slip.
It was only a teeny tiny bit unfortunate that tonight was so windy and chilly, and that her car had decided not to start. Peyton hadn’t answered the phone when she called, and Brooke was entirely certain Nathan and Haley were very well occupied shoving their tongues down each other’s throats. That left only one option. Sighing, Brooke dialed the number she had long since memorized. He picked up on the first ring.
“Brooke?” came Lucas Scott’s voice through her phone.
“My car won’t start,” she said, “can you come get me?”
“I’ll bring the truck.” She gave him the address of the street she was parked on and hung up. Brooke rubbed her hands up and down her arms, shivering, praying for Lucas to hurry. Thankfully, it didn’t take him that long to get to her. It wasn’t fair — he looked great even like this, in a blue t-shirt, a jacket and jeans, hopping out of his car to rig hers up to the tow truck.
“Thanks for coming,” she managed through her chattering teeth when he finally approached her after his work was done.
“Brooke, you’re shaking,” Lucas noted, concern flooding his tone. She hated it. He didn’t have the right to be concerned over her, not after what he did. And yes, they were working their way back towards being friends, but she still had no idea whether she could trust him or not.
“I’m fine,” Brooke snapped, “you know me, I’ve got an ice cold heart anyways. This is totally normal Ice Queen behavior.”
Lucas stared at her for the space of five seconds. Then, slowly, carefully, he removed his jacket, placing it gently around her shoulders. Brooke didn’t say anything, just slipped her arms through the sleeves and held it closed in front of her, grateful for the warmth it provided.
“Come on, let’s get you home.”
Lucas opened the passenger side door to the truck for her and Brooke climbed in. He got into the driver’s seat afterwards, and away they went. They drove in silence for a few minutes, and she pretended she didn’t see his eyes shifting from the road to her more often than they should have. That was how she knew he was going to ruin it.
“Brooke, I — ”
“Don’t. Don’t, Luke.”
He swallowed, ducking his head into a reserved nod. She wasn’t ready to hear what he had to say. She wasn’t sure she ever would be, not really. Or maybe she wasn’t sure she would be able to hold herself as she did, so cautious and careful with him. To continue their slow and steady pace instead of melting back into him and lighting herself on fire just to see his eyes glow in the lights of the crackling flames.
Brooke’s red door appeared far too slowly in her opinion, but she had always believed in the saying ‘Better late than never’.
“I’ll have your car fixed by tomorrow. No charge.”
Brooke frowned, “Lucas, you can’t do that. I’m not gonna make you work for free, and we both know I can pay for it.”
“It’s the least I can do.”
Well. He had her there. She shrugged.
“I’ll just make a donation to Keith and the shop, then.”
“Brooke —”
“It’s the least I can do.”
She cursed him and that stupid, addicting fond look in his eyes. God. Lucas made it too easy to want him again, which was exactly why she was hesitant to call him.
“Deal, then.” He offered her his hand. She shook it firmly, holding his gaze even when her grip softened and he kept her fingers in his.
“I should get inside,” Brooke said, finally, “We’ve got school tomorrow.”
Lucas nodded, releasing her at last.
“Goodnight, pretty girl.”
The breath shook in her throat when she inhaled. Before she had time to overthink it, Brooke leaned in and pressed a kiss against Lucas’s cheek.
“Goodnight, Luke,” she whispered. Then she was gone, out of the truck and disappearing behind the red door, wondering whether or not she would regret that in the morning.
#more bittersweet than rom com but oh well! they’ll get something happy out of me eventually idk 😭#brucas#brooke x lucas#lucas x brooke#brooke davis#lucas scott#k writes#mj (not watson)#oth#rom com series#if you see this send me something for them i miss them downnnnn and this was really fun!!

Since we’ve talked about the supremely adorable Jake/Jeyton: what do you see as Jake’s strengths and flaws? What about his character do you think makes him such a good match for Peyton? Have fun :)
This might be more difficult for me because I feel like I have a stronger understanding of Naley and Brucas than I do Jeyton. But I'll try.
Jake is loyal to a fault. When he cares about someone, he falls deeply and truly commits. Jake is hardworking. He's compassionate. For the most part, he confronts problems head on rather than pushing them aside for the sake of maintaining harmony. He's incredibly selfless. Trying to figure out Jake's faults is difficult. To some degree, Jake is pretty much perfect. Jake is already a single dad at the beginning of the series, meaning he's come to terms with sacrificing whatever dreams or wants he might have had prior to Nikki's pregnancy. We missed out on seeing Jake's struggle because by the time we meet him, he's already undergone that character development. That being said, Jake struggles to let his guard down. He refuses to unload his burdens on anyone else. I assume Jake's relationship with his parents is different because they're stated to be helping out and don't appear to be pressuring Jake to move out on his own. And even still, Jake feels clear guilt for putting his parents in the position where they have to support his daughter. Another way Jake's flaw manifests itself is keeping his daughter a secret for several months after her birth. Jake insists he isn't ashamed of Jenny, but his desire to protect her could have potentially made Jenny feel like a shameful secret. All of this leads to Peyton. By the time Jake and Peyton start spending a significant amount of time together, Jake has allowed the world to know about his child. So he's more open to letting Peyton into Jenny's life via her babysitting. What's sad is that even after Peyton bonds with Jake and Jenny, even helping them discreetly leave Tree Hill - something that proves Peyton is willing to put Jenny first, Jake still won't fully let down his walls. Jake spends half of season 2 refusing to communicate with Peyton due to his fear of Nikki somehow tracking him down, but also because it seems like he doesn't want Peyton to feel tethered to him. Over and over again, Jake takes any opportunity he can to push Peyton away so that she can have a normal life and isn't forced to sacrifice anything. Peyton is able to somewhat break Jake out of his habit during their season 2 relationship, resulting in Jake letting his guard down and willingly bringing Jenny back to Tree Hill to live with Peyton. But the return of Nikki and the custody mess means Jake is once again reminded that his baggage is too much for Peyton. Jake won't even consider allowing Peyton to come with him to find Jenny and Nikki. But by season 3, it seems like Jake is less guarded and completely on board with Peyton settling down with him if that's what she truly wants. The writers are assholes, so that dream dies when Peyton says she loves Lucas in her sleep. Naturally, Jake sends Peyton back to Tree Hill and Lucas, where Peyton unfortunately and conveniently realizes via a flashback montage that she truly loves Lucas.
As for what makes him a match for Peyton? It's somehow all of his strengths and flaws mixed together. Jake's heart is never conflicted. From the end of season 1 through his brief season 3 return, Jake belongs to Peyton. This could be because due to Jake being a father, it's harder for him to meet other girls. Every single person who comes into Jake's life is really coming in to Jenny's. Jake has to make sure they're worthy and won't be someone that will bail when things get too complicated or are untrustworthy. It's so painfully clear that Nikki did a lot of damage to Jake. Apparently, Nikki was only 19 when she gave birth to Jenny. Based on the math, Jake was probably 16. We don't know how long they dated, only that Jake was in love with her. Nikki feels older and more predatory, though. I think the writers legitimately forgot Nikki was intended to be a recent high school graduate rather than an adult woman because she intentionally went for an underage Lucas because she "likes them young". 🤢 It also didn't help that they cast a woman pushing 30 as a 19 year old. Even for a show like One Tree Hill, that was pushing it. Taylor James looked like a baby next to her. I'm sorry. I got WAY off topic. Anyways, Jake loved Peyton and only Peyton! There's no hiding his heart or mind games. Jake wants Peyton to have the very best in life and places her needs ahead of his own. Even if Jake is going to be miserable. Jake is protective, but he doesn't have a savior complex. Jake shows up for Peyton because he wants to. Jake falls in love with Peyton because he adores and respects who she is as a person, not because he thought she was hot when they were in middle school and he romanticized the idea of stealing her away her asshole boyfriend who happens to be his half brother. Jake is aware that Peyton is strong and a survivor. Maybe on paper, Jake is the less interesting love interest. His flaws aren't as on display to the same degree as Nathan's or Lucas's or, in later seasons, Julian's. Jake is safe, but he's strong. He makes Peyton feel lighter and happier. Jake inspires Peyton to be more selfless. It's hard to explain, but I feel like Peyton is a more complete, more empowered version of herself with Jake. This is so dumb, but the only thing coming to mind is that Jake lets Peyton bejeweled LOL. Jake brings Peyton back to earth, but he makes it clear how amazing and capable she is. Lucas, in contrast, often desires Peyton under only specific circumstances. Because he's never truly moved past the way a preteen Lucas looked at Peyton, it frustrates Lucas when Peyton rejects him or doesn't give him what he wants on his terms. This is why adult LP can only reunite when Peyton is appropriately punished and worn down to the point where all she wants in life is to become Mrs. Lucas Scott. Lucas is willing to fight for girls like Brooke and Lindsey. But with Peyton, his ego will not allow him to compromise and figure out a way for both to be happy. In my opinion, Lucas deeply loves and cares for Peyton as a friend. Lucas is a very good support system during season 3, early season 4 and even parts of season 2. But Lucas has trouble distinguishing Peyton the fantasy from Peyton the actual person when they're romantically linked, which is why LP blows and Lucas sucks as a love interest for Peyton. He decidedly does not let her bejeweled.

gifs and ships
i was tagged by @archiercnnies so here i am~
1. first ship:
definitely bangel. i discovered what shipping meant thanks to them. i was so obsessed that my walls were covered with posters -- even my ceiling. i used to record every episode on VHS in order to watch them over and over again. they will always have a special place and since the show was open ended, i choose to believe they found each other and finally got to be happy.
2. current fave ship:
varchie. i wish i didn’t watch riverdale. i wish i loved myself enough in order to quit this awful show, but they’ve got a hold on me -- literally the only reason i’ve stuck around this long. and to think i used to make fun of them along with the show as a whole, yet here i am. exes to lovers, here we come.
3. my ship since the first minute:
clana, hands down. i remember recording the first two episodes while i was out and when i came home, i gave smallville a try. after all, i loved the show lois and clark, so why not? i didn’t have high expectations, but they got me as soon as i saw them together on my screen. never looked back after that. sadly, they were most of the time mistreated (especially lana) and they didn’t have the ending they deserved. but they’re still at the very top of my list.
4. i wish they had been endgame:
all of them??? but for this one i’m gonna say brucas. if only cmm had been a faithful husband. their storyline wouldn’t have been wrapped up this way. i firmly believe they had all the reasons to find their way back to one another. and their interactions in season 5 was all the proof needed. i’ll just have to make up my own endgame scenario for them, but we were robbed for sure.
5. i wish they had been canon:
i had to really think about this one. but then it hit me. harry and hermione. i only read the first book when i was young, so my knowledge of them is non-existent. i know that the relationships are very different in the books, but as someone who has been watching the movies for years... the chemistry and the amount of time spent on harry and hermione could only lead me to ship them. they deserved to be canon in the movies and i’ll never change my mind.
6. most of the fandom hates, but i love:
karamel. but most of the fandom is filled with haters so that doesn’t say much. anyway, i didn’t watch supergirl for long, but these two were downright adorable. they literally bullied chris out of the show, but i’m thankful for the playful, cute and angsty moments they were able to deliver nonetheless. and the actors are not only married, but parents now. still a win, i guess?
7. don’t watch the show but i ship them anyway:
this was a hard one. and even though i watched a bit of teen wolf, i decided to include them because i literally didn’t watch their arc or any season past the second. so, this still counts. scalia were looking really good from the little i saw and that was more than enough in my book.
8. i wish they had a different storyline:
i put fuinn in the ‘fandom hates’ category at first, but then realized they were better in this one. the fandom still hated them and it didn’t stop me from loving everything we were able to get in the first two seasons. though, i obviously wish their storyline had been different. that might have helped a lot.
9. a background ship that i wasn’t supposed to ship, but i do:
i wouldn’t really call them a background ship. but wrencer i’m guessing wasn’t supposed to be something people were going to root for. after all, when ships are mentioned when it comes to spencer, wren is rarely mentioned. but i loved the small amount of scenes they had. barely watched pll, but you can be sure my ass downloaded the episodes when he appeared just for them.
10. my notp:
can’t really choose one, and they don’t deserve a gif especially not on my blog. but for sure sp*ffy, lex*na and d*lena. there’s a lot of ships i can’t stand (hello b*rchie), but those three have at some point been toxic and/or abusive. so they get to be at the top of the list.
shoutout however to the ships that didn’t make the list because i could only choose one per category and yet have a very special place too.
stelena
captainswan (can you believe i actually got an endgame with them)
serenate
rosschel
ryissa
dj
sorry to the ones i forgot~

Anon-Requested Love Island USA Review - Episode 3 (out of, like, 8 million)
"Are you a fuck boy?" "I've been nice to you!" Fuck boys don't BEGIN mean, Hakeem.
"I'm with Hannah right now but your boy, Hakeem" I like how Connor and Hakeem have to be friends for no other reason than that they arrived on the island together.
"Promise not to judge me? I really like books on serial killers" So, crime novels or true crime nonfiction.
So, it didn't take Hercules coming in for Coye to feel stressed. Just a man who eats a cookie once in a while.
"He, like, set up a little, like, secret thing at the dock" he literally just asked you to meet him there. It's like when everyone freaks out because the Beast showed Belle his library. He's just letting her go to another room in the castle he's locked her in.
No but really, why are you waking up and hugging each other? LOL. You just slept. You didn't go away. What? Idk I'm not a morning person. I understand hugging before sleeping more than hugging after waking up.
Aaron, get that toothpaste off of your mouth PLEASE.
Why do you need a signal? You came in and gave avocado toast and then left and now Leah is gone too. You think people won't know where she went? Also, if you're all about honesty you should just be like, Leah can I see you for a second?
"We're locked in ... ... but we will talk to other people." So you are not, in fact, locked in.
A CUSTOM LOUIS VUITTON HOLDER FOR HIS BLUNTS? Leah, WHAT? You spent a grand on WHAT?
Did you buy him a house or something?? Aaron, she spent 2,500 dollars.
Why are you mad that Kaylor spent 5 grand on a man? That means she could spend that much on you??
We're going to find out what your girl's body count is. IN 2024? WHY?
"I swear to god she lied to me. She's a fucking liar." Coye, SHUT UP. Why does this MATTER?
"Let's find out how many times your boy has ghosted somebody." What, do they count? How would they know? How do you know it's exactly 50 women you've ghosted. How do you know that it's 1001 women you've ghosted?
"He's giving a wholesome king energy." Mmhmm. His body count is high.
Aaron's body count: 75 Kaylor: *let's out of a wail of despair*.
He was questioning ME about MY body count, well in that case you should eviscerate him.
Connor who apparently slept with 53 women thinks a woman sleeping with 15 men is too many men? "It LoOks LiKe A dOuBlE sTaNdaRd" because it IS, you dickhead.
Let's also apply the American Pie "Rule of Three" to the men.
Hakeem: It shouldn't be more than me! What if she's just a better closer than you, though?
TEN, AARON? WHAT IF SHE, LIKE YOU, WAS HEARTBROKEN? "I don't actually care" you put down a number.
YOUNG KING, YOUNG KING. Don't make me laugh.
Coye is RIDICULOUS. The amount of women you slept with could be the size of a church congregation, gtfoh.
JaNa was throwing shots at you. Coye: idgaf. I'm 6'8.
Coye, I know you're 6'8 but you still have to SPEAK. "I don't want to open up too fast" but you need to say something.
JaNa: I want clarity. Coye: How much clearer can I be? I am 6'8.
"I told him I had a good conversation with Connor and he was like 'cool' and it's like FIGHT FOR SOMEONE" lmao, see, Brucas shippers, it's not just a Lucas thing.
We are conveniently going to take a selfie on the balcony where we will just HAPPEN to see Leah and Rob together on one of their dates where Rob does literally nothing but just ask her to sit.
But good news, the fellas' body count will go down! No, it will stay the same.
JaNa, Coye is not a 10/10 he is just 6'8.
Aww, Serena and Kordell.
These re-couplings are not very dramatic so far. Where is the twist.
Wouldn't it be funny if Leah didn't choose Rob?
You can explore different people but if you're feeling someone more, just say that. Literally, though.
There is NO REASON why this music should make me feel like I'm watching a Christopher Nolan movie. SETTLE DOWN.
I'm glad she chose Connor. I don't trust Connor because while Rob is a serpent, Connor may be a demon because LOOK at those EYES
but Coye was BORING and arrogant. The 6'8 sway can only last so long, sir.
JaNa: I'm sorry. Coye: It's all good. (he's 6'8. he'll be fine.)

One Tree Hill rewatch (Season 1, Episode 2 - The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most)
I’m back with my thoughts for the second episode of season 1! If you want to read my thoughts about the Pilot, here they are. I’ve also created a masterlist where I’ll have my thoughts for every OTH episode, which is here.
Note 1: these posts of mine are not meant to be a recap of the episodes, simply what I was thinking as I as watching the episode!
Note 2: I *think* I’m going to be doing these once a week, so the episodes are fresh on my mind when they’re talked about in the podcast. However, if I find the time and/or want to, I might start doing these more regularly! Who knows, I’m not sure yet what the schedule will be.
Note 3: these will not be spoiler-free. So if you haven’t watched the show or are rewatching and, like me, don’t remember much you can filter the following tags: “one tree hill rewatch”, “one tree hill s1 rewatch”.
Before I start though, I want to say that you can always send me a message (via ask or chat) to talk about the episode! I’m rather useless talking about future episodes because, as I said in my first post of this series, I watched this show only once and it was like 8 years ago, so I don’t remember much. But feel free to talk to me about the episodes I’ve already rewatched, I’d love that!
Episode synopsis: Lucas plays his first game as a Tree Hill Raven...and chokes. He isn't the only one confronting insecurities: Peyton can't find the courage to submit her drawings for publication.
So, without further ado, here are my thoughts:
Keith and Karen at the cafe 🥺
Haley OMG!!! This girl talks so much lmao
When Coach Whitey Durham calls “Scott” and both Lucas and Nathan look up lmao
Ahah, Mouth and Jimmy trying to interview Lucas before the game 😂
Mouth (to Jimmy): “Did you just hear that? We’re media” 😂
God I hate Dan so much (and he was just talking to Keith in the stands at the gym)
God I can’t wait for Nathan to be the Nathan we know and love!!!
OMG BROOKE DAVIS, LOVE OF MY LIFE, FINALLY APPEARS!!! Mind you, from what I remember, I didn’t really like her until like s3-s4, but still 🥰
Peyton (to Lucas): “Nice hands”; Lucas (to Peyton): “Nice legs” - lmao
Wow Lucas is really feeling the pressure during the game. I actually feel bad for him
The cheerleading uniforms from these first two episodes are actually kind of cute, but not anywhere near the s4 uniforms, which were a beauty 😍
OMG, the first time the theme song plays 🥺🥰 ngl, it made me emotional
Ewwww, Nathan and Peyton 🤢 - I want Haley!!!
Nathan (to Peyton): “Hell yeah, didn’t you?” - Nathan, sweetie, why do you have to be such an arsehole?! And what he said to Peyton? Omg, fuck him!!! Man, he’s such a little shit (in a bad way)!!!
Ahah, Karen upset at Keith. But mostly at herself for not being at the game for Lucas 🥺 oh Karen sweetie 🥺
Peyton (to Lucas): “Guess misery really does love company”. Also, what a great way for her to cheer up Lucas: “Look, it’s just a game. Who cares if the entire school, most of your friends and half the town saw you suck?” LMAO
But also this hairstyle looks so good on Peyton 😍 (as Sophia, Hilarie and Joy said on the podcast, it always comes back to hair 😂)
I think I’m going to roll my eyes every time Dan is on screen, ngl. He’s such a little shit, it makes me want to scream! Or beat the shit out of him!!!
Peyton (to Lucas): “Do you want to come in?” and “What are you doing? (...) I didn’t invite you in, I just asked you if you wanted to. Thanks for the ride.” Peyton 😂
Karen (to Lucas): “I’m sorry I missed it”; Lucas (to Karen): “Yeah, me too.” 🥺
Peyton’s drawings!!!
Peyton (to Nathan): “Peyton’s not here right now, just her lame music” 😂
Yeah, you should be sorry Nathan! You’re being such a little shit!!! Also, have you ever actually been good to her?!
Again, Lucas really feeling the pressure, can’t even score in the playground
Teacher (to Peyton): “Peyton, describe Lucas using only one word”; Peyton (to Lucas/classroom): “Choke”; Teacher (to Lucas): “Lucas, care to respond and describe Peyton?”; Lucas (to Peyton/classroom): “Lonely”; ooooh indeed
Nathan (to teacher/classroom): “I can describe Lucas in one word. Bastard.” - NO NATHAN, YOU’RE THE BASTARD!!!
Jake LMAO you little shit (in a good way)
Lucas and Haley’s friendship 🥺
Brooke (to Peyton): “You know, it’s really too bad Lucas is poor and can’t play because he’s fine.” - ewwwwww 🤢 (disclaimer: I strongly dislike/hate Brucas, so any kind of comments like this or, worse, when they’re together will involve these types of comments and emojis)
Brooke (to Peyton): “I think about the future sometimes and it scares me. But then I think I’ll go to college, I’ll join the right sorority, marry a rich guy... unless I get fat” 😂 But wow, that first sentence is such a mood
Keith and Lucas 🥺
Keith (to Lucas): “It’s the rule of life. Prettier the girl, messier the car.” 😂
Hum, Lucas, sweetie, why did you think it was ok to go through someone’s private belongings?! That’s not right!
Dan for fuck sake!!!!!!! Go fuck yourself!!!!!!!
Nathan (to Dan): “He wasn’t swinging at me, dad. He was swinging at you.”
Haley: “Is that the phone?” 😂
Karen (to Lucas): “So why go down to his level?” - wise, wise words
Lucas (to Karen): “How would you know, you weren’t even there.” - yikes Lucas, but also I feel bad for him
Lucas and Karen the next morning 🥺
Oh Karen sweetie 🥺 you deserved so much better!!!
Dan certainly has (and always has had) a healthy ego 🙄
Jake (to Lucas): “Just remember, don’t let him take it.”; Lucas (to Jake): “I don’t know what that means.”; Jake (to Lucas): “Yeah, I know, but you will.”
Nathan stop being an arsehole!!!
Peyton (to Lucas): “I wanna draw something that means something to someone” sweetie 🥺
Ugh, Dan go fuck yourself!!!!! Ugh, I hate him so much 🤬
Coach Durham (to Dan): “Make you happy, Danny? Seeing the demise of the kid you fathered and then abandoned?” and “You’re just destroying kids’ lives left and right, aren’t you?” you tell him!!!
While the teacher is reading the answers the students wrote on the papers, I’m realising that so far it’s really only Peyton, Lucas and Nathan the main characters. We barely see Brooke or Haley.
Ewwww, Nathan and Peyton 🤢 - I want Haley!!!
Again, Haley and Lucas! I love their friendship 🥺
Karen and Lucas 🥺 oh Lucas, I feel so sorry you had a shitty “father” who abandoned you 🥺
Dan (to Lucas): “Give this to my boy, will you?” - Fuck off Dan!!!!!
Jake (to Lucas): “Don’t let him take it - your talent, it’s all yours.”
Oh Karen, what a brave step going to the gym where the arsehole broke your heart 🥺
Lucas (to Peyton): “Hey... your art matters. It’s what got me here.” 🥺🥰
