hii could you write quinn fabray and the reader retelling their first kiss to the glee club but they both have very different takes on it something funny xD
Misrememberings
535 words
fluff
Quinn Fabray x reader
a/n: im sorry this took me so long to get out! i got busy and had a bunch of stuff come up and didn't have the time to write this until now. i hope that it's all you wanted lol!
you and quinn sat in the choir room, along with the rest of the glee club. schue was late (as always), so you all tried to entertain yourselves for the time being. "so, quinn, how did you and y/n even start dating?" artie asked. santana added on, "yeah, you know i'm curious how you started dating all star y/n who's the captain of the only winning team at the school."
you looked at each other before shrugging "i don't know, i think we just kissed and knew that that's when we knew were dating" you answered their inquiries. quinn nodded "yeah it was when we were studying in my room, i looked up at her and knew that i wanted to be with her, so i kissed her" she said, reaching for your hand that was resting on your thigh.
you shook your head "no, it was when you were watching my soccer practice and you walked onto the field while we were doing suicide runs because we lost the last game. you just walked up to me and kissed me." the cheerleader shook her head, gently playing with the fingers on your hand. "no we were already dating then, we had our first kiss before we started dating" she looked up at you "before we started dating our dates were study sessions"
"you walked on the field while they were doing suicide runs?" puck interrupted, dumbfounded that she interrupted one of the hardest practices. "i have that power" quinn replied. you laughed and nodded "you're still wrong about that being our first kiss but you do have that power" you added on. the blonde cheerleader shook her head "you're misremembering darling"
"how do you not know when your first kiss happened?" rachel asked, you only shrugged in reply, "yeah i remember my first kiss with rachel" finn said with a smile, "yeah it was in the auditorium on this little picnic i made" she said returning finn's smile, leaning into him. "barf." santana spoke up, rolling her eyes back to you and quinn, removing them from the now cuddly couple "i remember my first kiss with brittany, it was while i was dating puck" puck looked at santana, "whatever i cheated on you too" he mumbled.
you laughed at how puck seemed hurt by santana admitting her cheating. quinn slapped your chest to stop you from laughing. you shook your head slightly before looking back at the blonde. "wait hold on, i think you're right" you started, "the study kiss was before and it was our first kiss, but the suicide run one was our first kiss as an official couple"
quinn smiled and looked at you. the rest of the glee club groaned "that's lame, it should've been y/n's. it was more interesting" mercedes says as schue walked in.
"what should've been y/n's?" schue asked, unknowing of what you were all previously talking about. santana answered the man before you or quinn could "y/n's and quinn's first kiss, they didn't know what it was" schuester laughed "i remember mine and emma's" he reminisced. before he could continue you cut him off, "what's the lesson this week schue?"

GLEE LGBTQIA+ HEADCANONS- HAPPY PRIDE MONTH PART 3
21- Unique Adams- trans
-canonically trans
-her story felt a little rushed in my opinion, she went from a drag queen to a crossdresser to a trans person in a spam of like 6 episodes
-underrated Queen
-the best singer in my opinion
22- Marley Rose- pansexual and asexual
-this could be an interesting story line
-like the reason she doesn’t feel ready for sex is because she’s not sexually attracted to anyone
-although this would potentially make Jake an asshole
-her and Unique are gfs tho❤️
23- Jake Puckerman- bisexual
-def wanted to smack Ryder
-he was watching Sam “twerk”
-just gives of energy tbh
-I would actually spend a lot of money to see Jacob Artist make out with a ma
24- Ryder Lynn- gay
-never liked Marley, he actually liked Jake
-i really like Rynique but gay Ryder just speaks louder in my heart
-we could’ve met his father in this possible storyline like the opportunity😭
-Ryan Murphy had a chance to do an actual love triangle on glee but NOOOO LETS MAKE THEM FIGHT FOR THE PRETTY GIRL AGAIN FOR THE FOURTH TIME
25- Kitty Wilde- lesbian
-“what would Quinn Fabray do?” She would be a lesbian
-she dated Jake, Artie and had a crush on Ryder yet she had absolutely 0 chemistry with all of them
-Marley on the other hand…
26- Roderick Meeks- aroace
- I find it interesting how him (and Madison) are the only ones that never showed interest in another person
- really wish assexuality was discussed more back in the 2010’s
- he should’ve been one of the characters introduced in season 4 and I would die on that hill
27- Jane Hayward- unlabeled
- probably thinks labels are stupid and shouldn’t exist because it’s misogynistic or offensive or sm
- idk I really dislike her I feel she would say something annoying like this
28- Mason McCarthy- bisexual
- yeah you’re not straight
- he’s also a really boring character for me so I have nothing to add💀
29- Madison McCarthy- aromantic and lesbian
- now THATS a feral lesbian
- her and Jane as girlfriends tho?
- aromantic part is bc I feel she’s the type of aro who’s disgusted by love
-still likes touching boobs tho
30- Spencer Porter- gay
-canon
- interesting storyline for the first seasons
- although it’s kind off like Dave’s storyline
There’s a limit of ten pictures per post but I really don’t want to make a fourth post just for the students so…
31- Alistair- gay and genderfluid
- Billies brother wow
- this is just based on vibes cause I have no idea if he ever spoke on glee
32- Myron Muskovitz- trans and lesbian
- Josie Totah it’s trans so I feel her character should also be
- maybe figured out when she was about 16?
- so by dreams come true she would already be in her transition🥹
33- Skylar- polysexual
- who? Oh yeah the Blaine of season 6
- again based on vibes
- he’s also a really good singer go listen to the album version of take me to church
34- Super Gay Warbler- indeed gay
- behold the oracle has spoken the truth
- also a good singer go listen to the album version of rise
35- Sunshine Corazon- trans and pansexual
- same with Myron, since the actor is trans I feel like his character should also be
- just imagine after all those years Sunshine returning on season 6 for his transition
- what would be his name tho? Moonlight? *old people laugh plays on the background lmao lol haha*
That’s it for the main kids, prolly won’t do a fourth post for the adults because I don’t really care about them but only time will tell

ooh wait what is the beef with mr schue bcs ive heard people say they dont like him but idk what he did ive watched like maybe 5 episodes and im curious tbh
okay 1) you should totally watch glee you will love it
2) most people hate schuester because he's as if not more flawed than every other glee character (one thing about glee is every single character has their moments of sucking absolute balls and has done something extremely #problematic at some point. rachel sent a girl to a crackhouse because she was jealous of her singing. also she is obnoxious af and thinks she deserves every solo because she's more talented than everyone else (she really isn't). finn...don't get me started on finn he's like the worst character. brittany leaked a sex tape of her and santana without her permission. tina faked a disability for two years. santana manipulated brittany into cheating on artie with her and is generally a massive bitch. i could go on) but he's generally portrayed as this very good guy you know. which they don't for example do with rachel (everyone hates rachel too but not the point. they're wrong and should die). some of schue's massive list of crimes are:
suspending a girl who has a known eating disorder that made her faint on stage for refusing to wear a bikini
ogling his students performing sexually suggestive dance moves all the time
constantly doing sexual choreography with his students. one time he danced across the school hallways to a song about date rape as nine minors twerked alongside him
refusing to stop twerking with his students so his trans student could be given protection at school (that shouldve never been a condition for her protection in the first place but everyone knows sue sucks she's the villain. will is supposed to be the good guy yk)
rapping. worst rapper you will ever encounter (one time he rapped the thong song shirtless to his engaged crush)
being a paid spanish teacher at a school for 2 years despite not knowing a word of spanish and mostly basing his classes on weird stereotypes
does nothing to stop his kids from being bullied like ever
NEVER GIVES ANY OF OUR FAVOURITE CHARACTERS SOLOS. EXCEPT RACHEL
thats just some of his dubious schuenanigans i could go on but yeah lol
#anti will schuester#he definitely has his moments too though. he's not The Worst#his main crime to me is just being extremely needlessly boring. like i dont care#summer child 🍃

Who do you think are Quinntana's kids' favorite (and least favorite) aunties and uncles from the glee club? And for the latter, do you think they're good at concealing their distaste or do they sport signature scowls they inherited from both their moms? LOL
Oh man, I’ll have to set some basic parameters for my answer here because the possibilities are infinite lol. Let’s say hmmm… Quinntana initially have two kids. One boy (older) and one girl (younger). The boy is Santana’s biologically and the girl is Quinn’s but that doesn’t really matter because they all wear matching scowls to glee reunion events anyway.
When he is younger the boy’s favourites are Brittany (which kills Quinn just a teensy bit inside ngl) and Sam (which kills Santana inside just a teensy bit too). But that’s only because they let him get away with crazy stuff while his parents aren’t looking. When he is a teen, Mercedes is his favourite because she’s an international pop sensation and that makes her the cool aunt. He finds Kurt and Blaine both a bit annoying but has been known to call on them in a crisis because he knows they’ll always be there for him. He has no idea who Rachel Berry is, purely because he knows how much that irks her.
From very early on, the girl’s favourite and least favourite aunt is Rachel. She cannot stand how much she adores her. It’s maddening. She’s so annoying. She loves her. She’s the worst person in the world. She’s obsessed with her. It’s disgusting. Santana and Quinn are both at a loss for what to do because sometimes it gets out of hand but at the same time completely understand how their daughter is feeling and blame themselves for having passed the Rachel love/hate gene onto their children (but are also pretty proud of it tbh). Her favourite uncle is Mike because he doesn’t bother her much and has a cool apartment in the city that he lets her stay at with her friends from time to time. Also she hates Artie.

can I just start with how funny it is that blaine's personality changed from well blaine to darren? Like at first he's this smooth talker suave handsome guy and then he's just... a dude? I know it's talked about a lot but it is just THAT funny.
Rewatching season 5 rn and honest to god I didn't remember a single plot point from this season. And rightly so it's so chaotic (as is most glee) I know they stopped caring at this point lmao. Like what's up with artie doing 3 girls at once?? And blaine's jealous of kurt cause he's getting muscular?? And RACHEL LEAVES FUNNY GIRL??? Like what is even happening.
Also remembering things i forgot on my rewatch: the twerking episode has a plot. I totally forgot that I always thought of it as just the twerking epsiode and while i was watching it I was like "oh it actually has kinda good plot"
This is all I can remember rn, my memory's kinda bad. Would love to hear your stuff. Especially why you ship Quartie, i never even thought of it lol
Very true! Especially compared s2!blaine to s4!blaine, it’s like a whole ‘nother level. Even before in s2, there were hints there with his romantic gesture to the gap guy, but later on, he started to get less “classy” to say the least haha.
Season 5 is actually where I stopped. Exactly at the 20th ep. It’s very weird. And the stuff with Blaine, I feel like seeing Kurt in his footing made him insecure (not that he wasn’t already but you get it). While I don’t like how he handled it and the way he acted, I can relate to feeling insecure and being a little jealous of even the closest people around me.
And the Artie plot was so funny to watch. I did really like him with Kitty tho so rip to them.
Rachel leaving Funny Girl especially is ridiculous. Her whole arc was getting into Broadway and being a star. And then fast forward to season 6 and apparently she left for a goddamn tv show and is stuck in Lima like wtf. Anyways, S1 & S4 Rachel was superior all I’ve gotta say.
The twerking one was also so icky. Like no teacher in real life would be condoning this. Not to mention, last I checked, didn’t Schue twerk on those minors??? I can’t believe I’m actually siding with Sue here but…
As for why I ship Quartie, I actually didn’t ship them when I first watched but I loved their dynamic. Seeing @thomas-the-goat-of-satan and other tumblr users talking about them made me love Quartie more.
I just love how happy Quinn was around Artie. Probably the happiest she ever was around a man lmao. And I love how they both bond when Quinn was paralyzed and the way Artie seemed to challenge her.
Also I’m Still Standing totally fucks.

Shelby and Burt
These two could not be any more different, both as characters and how they were written, and that’s why I find it so interesting that their stories are paralleled in Theatricality. While Glee is not the best written show ever, I still believe season 1 had the most thought put into it and Burt’s story and character development in the lamp scene taking place in the same episode Shelby decides she isn’t Rachel’s mom, was a deliberate choice.
Burt and Kurt
Since Burt is such a memorable, stand out character, some people think Burt and Kurt had always been super close and Burt had always been super supportive of him, but that wasn’t always the case for them. And I feel like reducing Burt to having “always been supportive of Kurt” undermines the character development he went through in season 1.
We know Burt, for the most part, did try to accept Kurt for who he was growing up, buying him sensible heels and having tea parties with him when he was a kid, but we can tell from as early as Showmance that he and Kurt had a strained relationship. From the little things we hear Burt occasionally say, he’s never really understood Kurt. We find out Burt bribed Kurt with a car to get him to stop wearing knee length sweaters, and subsequently takes said car away when he finds Kurt’s tiara collection in Acafellas. In Preggers, Kurt is extremely nervous to tell his dad he’s dancing and lies about being involved with sports. It takes a lot of effort and courage for Kurt to come out, and he’s even genuinely surprised by Burt’s reaction which is not how people would typically react if they knew they were going to be supported unconditionally. This realization that Burt accepts him is a big relief, and begins the first step to them mending their previously distant relationship.
To Burt in this episode, Kurt coming out starts and ends with Kurt liking boys, which he says “he’s not too crazy about.” In Wheels, we get another instance of Burt being slightly uncomfortable with the idea, as he tells Kurt he’s still not ready to talk to him about boys and looks unamused when Kurt jokes about not getting anyone pregnant. However, in this episode, Burt finds out that Kurt being gay means Kurt has to deal with obstacles he hadn’t previously considered.
Kurt tells him he wants to try out for a song, but he can’t because Will’s mind is already made up. Burt, realizing this is getting Kurt down, goes to talk to Figgins and Will, managing to get Kurt a chance to try out for the song because Will shouldn’t discriminate based of sex, religion, or the fact that Kurt is “queer as a three dollar bill.” Granted, semantics wise while this particular situation doesn’t actually have to do with Will discriminating Kurt for his sexuality specifically, it’s very much tied into the overall message that Kurt isn’t the “acceptable, traditional” fit for the role (which we also see Puck, Artie, and even Rachel struggle with as well in the rest of this episode). This isn’t just about one song, it’s a metaphor for the greater picture.
Which is why I find it sort of annoying when people say there was no way Kurt was going to win against Rachel and how dare Kurt even try out, because that’s not the point of the episode! lol The unifying theme of Wheels was discrimination. Also I do think it’s a little stupid to act as if Kurt was so out of line for wanting to sing. Like it’s a school club, why can’t someone try out for a song if they want to? Mr. Schue had such a vendetta against auditions, he even says he hated them in Funeral because it feels like he’s picking between his favorite children, but he also has no problems just assigning roles without asking the rest of the club what they feel.
After that, Burt gets the phone call calling Kurt a slur. He’s so irritated by it after he can’t properly work the coffee pot and is super defensive when Kurt comes to talk to him. He tells Kurt about the call and Kurt says he gets that all the time, but Burt says he doesn’t. Coupled with the whole song thing, Burt is being faced with the reality that Kurt being gay means more than just the fact that he likes boys, or doesn’t like sports. Kurt, by virtue of his sexuality and being nonconforming in a cishetero world, will be denied opportunities and be a target for harassment and discrimination.
Kurt, however is determined to keep Burt shut off from this part of his life, and takes matters into his own hands to throw the competition. He knows his dad isn’t exactly thrilled that he’s gay in the first place, and he doesn’t want his dad to have to be further burdened by him. It took him a long time to come out because he was afraid of the outcome, and he at this point is still unsure that Burt’s support is actually unconditional.
Later, he tells Burt what he did, and while Burt’s not happy about it, he doesn’t press the issue. You can see on the look on his face at the end of the episode, when Kurt goes to change so they can work on a car together, that it’s really hitting him that being there for him means more than being a passive supporter.
In Home and Laryngitis, Kurt continues to struggle where he stands exactly with his dad. While it’s natural for kids to be a little jealous of their parents treating another kid like their own, Kurt’s behavior in these episodes shows him and Burt haven’t always been close, and he’s still insecure about it. Which is why Burt’s easy friendship with Finn, someone who represents everything Kurt isn’t, hurts more when compared to how hard it’s been for him, how long it took him to come out and how they still don’t quite understand each other (Burt wants to go to a baseball game and Kurt still can’t fathom the thought of stirrup pants!). Finn accomplished something in one conversation that Kurt’s struggled with his whole life. Which is why, in Home, he drops the crush on Finn and tries to get them to break up their parents. And why in Laryngitis he tries to act more like Burt so he can be the son Burt’s always wanted. This time, Burt has to be a lot more clear about his stance with Kurt. He says himself they don’t really talk about their feelings (and we see that manifest with Kurt a lot throughout the show! He tends to bottle things up a lot, doesn’t really communicate about where he stands with people, and in turn hurts others because of it.) but in this conversation he reassures Kurt. He doesn’t want Kurt changing who he is just to please him, or anyone else, he loves him just the way he is.
Shelby and Rachel
To start this off, Shelby is…not a very well written character? It feels like they wanted to have their cake and eat it too when it came to her, and so her backstory is all over the place, the way she's presented almost doesn't match her actions. She’s, apparently, a failed actress yet talks about how she has walls lined with trophies. Surrogacy and adoption are used interchangeably because they wanted to mirror Quinn’s storyline (season 1 was particularly obsessed with mirroring. Everything had to have its 1:1!) and so they could take all the dramatic aspects of both situations. She’s meant to be a cutthroat choir director, literally the mind behind the Vocal Adrenaline, yet she delivers her critical, cutting lines in such a soft way that I believe was meant so she didn’t seem so “mean” so the audience would want to see her as Rachel’s mom (she definitely wasn’t a Sue Sylvester, Jesse, or Dakota Stanley). She acts in ways that are just so…cruel, but she’s presented like she’s this wise, sympathetic woman. She, by what we see, would make a terrible mother but we’re supposed to root for her when she adopts Beth as her redemption arc. We’re supposed to think Quinn is being unreasonable for wanting to report her for sleeping with a student. The relationship between Shelby and Rachel is almost treated like a weird, but “understandable” separation between two people that had no chemistry, rather than the manipulation of an already sensitive and insecure minor by a calculating, selfish adult.
Before Rachel even meets her, she uses Jesse to manipulate Rachel into thinking about her (and the show tries to soften it but saying her intentions weren’t for Jesse to get romantically involved with Rachel. But in my opinion that doesn’t make anything better, especially when Jesse did get into a romantic relationship with Rachel anyway.) She forces her way into Rachel’s life, and leaves just as fast when it’s not what she wanted right off the bat.
(Also she basically lets Vocal Adrenaline get away with egging Rachel...no mention of it when she’s in Figgin’s office as she’s more upset that Finn and Puck had slashed Vocal Adrenaline’s tires. But I also half believe it’s because the writers forgot that the reason Puck and Finn were even in trouble was to defend Rachel because they often forgot how point B happened because of point A…And I’m not sure if it makes it “better” or worse that Funk was meant to be before Theatricality, since it means Shelby was still trying to get to meet Rachel but also means she doesn’t know her personally yet and let her students harass Rachel like that...)
When she meets Rachel in Theatricality, she bluntly tells Rachel that this was supposed to feel good, they were supposed to run into each other’s arms, but it all just “feels wrong”. Selfish and shortsighted, the moment they met and they didn’t feel an instant connection, Shelby backs out. Unlike Burt, who struggled to connect with Kurt but continued to go out of his way to find ways to support him, Shelby absolutely refuses to put in the extra work. The second it didn’t live up to her fantasy, she wants nothing to do with it.
The final straw for Shelby during their conversation is when Rachel tells her about how her dads would bring her a glass of water whenever she was upset, so she stopped being able to tell when she was sad or thirsty. (And while it’s a sweet story, I do think it shows an unintended consequence of that action is Rachel now has trouble understanding what she really feels, and will downplay her own sadness like in Mattress)
She doesn’t want Rachel, a person with her own life outside of Shelby, she wants a baby to mold to be her own. She tells Will (who, imo, as an adult and is framed as the "voice of reason" in this scene didn’t do enough to call out Shelby, which in turn feels as if the show also doesn’t realize how bad Shelby is) that Rachel doesn’t need her, she’s 16 and that’s already an adult. And…it’s ridiculous! Not just the statement alone but especially when we know Rachel! While her dads seem supportive, (though I find their characterization to be pretty disconnected between what we’re told and what we’re shown by virtue of the fact that they didn’t cast her dads until way later and then they ended up being such large name actors they couldn’t really be reoccurring characters, so despite them being obsessed with her...they're also never around.) she absolutely did need more loving people in her life. And being abandoned by Shelby didn’t help the insecurities she already felt.
So much of Rachel’s self worth is tied to her voice like in Laryngitis, and she strives to be the best singer, not just because she’s ambitious but because she seeks approval this way. She thinks the only thing about her that’s likable is her voice, and the club doesn’t exactly help to disprove this to her. They talk about needing her like in The Rhodes Not Taken and Sectionals, but they don’t hide how annoyed they are by her. She faced a lot of rejection in her life, and Shelby’s rejection was pretty much her worst fear come true. Even with her talent, she’s still not enough. (Which makes her early season 2 behavior make more sense, and why she was so eager to get rid of Sunshine.)
Still, Rachel is the one who tries to make plans to meet again and get to know each other more, she asks Shelby for help on her Gaga costume. She wants to make things work, but even with Shelby’s help with the costume, Shelby doesn’t want this relationship to work. Because...it’s too much work.
The Lamp Scene
Of course there a billion discussions about this scene and I’m not about to get into the details of it all. Most of it is besides the point here anyways, this is not about Finn. I’m going to focus solely on Burt’s reaction and what this scene means for him.
Finn uses the f slur right as Burt comes down the stairs, and Burt is immediately angry. What people never talk about is Kurt’s immediate response is to defuse the situation and downplay what happened. He instantly defends Finn, says he didn’t mean anything by it (despite how hurt he is, because it came from someone he didn’t expect to talk like that, but at the same time we know he gets called it a lot so he’s not truly shocked by it. His face is more “disappointed but not surprised.”). Like in Wheels, this is Kurt once again trying to shut Burt out of the bad aspects of his life because he feels it’ll inconvenience or hurt him. If Burt gets mad at Finn, it’ll possibly put his relationship with Carole in jeopardy, too.
Unlike in Wheels though, Burt doesn’t let Kurt let this slide. He tells Finn off, and says he knows exactly how Finn meant by it. That he also used to use the f slur, and thought being gay was wrong when he was young, too. Not only does Burt defend Kurt, he owns up to his own prior ignorance in a way Kurt has most likely never heard before. So while we do know that Burt was supportive of Kurt when he was growing up, we also don’t know if he went around saying things that were homophobic adjacent (much like how Finn used the slur against the furniture, instead of directly at Kurt) that Kurt internalized. It could be why Kurt was so afraid of coming out at first. In its own way, this scene is an apology for all the times Burt has maybe implied something negative before, the times he had already verbalized to Kurt that he wasn't thrilled about Kurt being gay, and for all the ways he didn’t stand up for Kurt before.
This scene is super important for a lot of reasons. For one, I think this moral was very much needed for the time, where homophobia ran a lot more rampant in America.
Second of all, by not letting Kurt let this slide, he’s demonstrating to Kurt/the audience that you shouldn’t just accept being called a slur because the person didn’t meant it like that/they’re someone you’re close to, you should want better for yourself and expect better treatment from the people around you.
Thirdly, this scene is a huge turning point between Kurt and Burt. It shows how much Burt has progressed as a person, and as a father. They started off the series hardly being able to have an honest conversation about Kurt’s interests, to Burt fiercely protecting him against homophobia, even at the cost of his own personal life, which was one of Kurt’s biggest fears. Burt could have very well broken up with Carole over this, but his son was more important.
Bit of a hot take but I truly think when people walk away from this scene believing Burt was too harsh on Finn, or they only consider Finn’s POV here, they’re missing a huge chunk of Finn and Kurt's story, as well Burt’s character development.
Poker Face
Rachel and Shelby meet at the auditorium. Shelby says the story about Rachel’s dads and the glass of water made her realize that it’s too late for them. Rachel says she feels awful (because of Shelby!) and that she should want to run into Shelby’s arms, but she just doesn’t (well of course she doesn’t, she’s sad because of Shelby!). Shelby says she’s Rachel’s mother, but not her mom. (Right, that’s it. And not that she directly caused Rachel’s sadness!) And that they can appreciate each other...from afar.
They hug and Rachel is devastated. Shelby gifts Rachel a gold star cup, so that she can always think of her when she’s thirsty. While I think the show wants us to believe this is a sweet gesture, because they sorta skirt around the fact that Rachel is so upset directly because of Shelby, I once read another analysis where this gift could be interpreted in another way. This cup is her final way of worming her way in Rachel’s life, without actually having to make an effort on her part. She knows it’s something special between Rachel and her dads, and instead of deciding to make her own memories with Rachel (because it would “confuse” her), she inserts herself into something that’s theirs. She doesn’t have to waste her time, she doesn’t even have to physically be present, but now every time Rachel is thirsty, or sad, she’ll think of Shelby.
It’s also still clearly a gesture Rachel only seems more hurt by, given her expression when she’s handed the cup. She has to grapple how she’ll never have the relationship she wanted with Shelby, and the gift only serves to highlight that.
Of course, it’s obvious that Poker Face is probably not the most appropriate duet for a mother/daughter to sing. The reason why it was chosen was for its most literal interpretation: it’s meant to represent hidden feelings. Rachel, not wanting to burden Shelby anymore, needs to pretend everything is okay and she’s fine that the woman she idolized wants nothing to do with her. And unlike Kurt, who felt the same need to hide his problems but had Burt who got him to open up, Shelby won’t put forward the same effort.
I also think in a meta sense, them choosing such an inappropriate song based more on vibes than meaning really is sort of a perfect representation on how much thought they put into Shelby as a character, and the effects she’d have on Rachel. Ryan Murphy stated it wasn’t about the lyrics specifically, it was about the idea that these two actresses could sell “longing.” And that’s a bit how I feel about Shelby. She’s more of an idea (poor mom who had to give up her baby and the relationship between Rachel and her didn’t work out due to circumstances out of their control) than a fully thought out character.
Final Moments
So, obviously, Burt and Shelby couldn’t be anymore different. But there’s this moment between them and Kurt/Rachel at the end of these scenes that just perfectly encapsulates the stark difference between them, without any words.
At the end of the lamp scene, Burt tells Kurt the place looks great and places a hand on Kurt’s shoulder that Kurt holds onto. It’s a really powerful, small touch that shows just how much progress they’ve made, and how close they are. Though I believe Burt would have stood up for Kurt like this since episode 1, I think this scene is made much more meaningful after the build up before it, and seeing how much they’ve grown.
Right before Shelby leaves, she touches Rachel on the chin, which seems to be another last ditch attempt at a motherly gesture, but it lasts a second before she awkwardly pats Rachel’s shoulder. There’s no closeness behind it or any sense of fondness, it’s an incredibly hallow gesture. She leaves, and doesn’t look back once. (Which is crazy because even Sue looked back to check on Kurt when he talked to her about his dad in Laryngitis!) Like they say in the show, Shelby might have been Rachel’s mother, but she’s not her mom.
It’s honestly hard to truly compare these two characters, because you can tell so much more care went into Burt’s character while Shelby was more vibes than anything, but I think this final touch showed who each character is: Burt is someone who tried, and Shelby was not.
I feel like there’s also something to say about the difference in effort that went into writing the male characters vs the women, but I feel like a lot of the missteps with Shelby’s character comes down to the framing of her actions and how the show never wanted to depict Shelby as too bad because of her connection to Rachel, even when her actions were downright horrible. But that was kind of glees main problem, they wanted to tell you one thing while showing you something else.
I think if they had wanted to improve Shelby’s storyline, they should have committed and actually explored Shelby as an antagonist more and had really lean into her encompassing all of Rachel’s worst traits, instead of giving her Beth as a redemption arc. (Especially hypocritical when Shelby is seen sympathetically for messing with Rachel’s life, yet Quinn is seen as the antagonist for messing with Beth’s)
A big lesson Rachel has to learn in season 1 is that she isn’t actually alone, and though she can’t always be the center of attention, she can still have fun being apart of something (of course I feel like this lesson is later undermined as the focus shifts to “no, actually Rachel is a star and everyone else DOES need to bend over for her” but as of season 1, this is what a couple of her storylines are about and it continues into season 2). It would have been interesting if Shelby was someone who never learned that lesson, and was now alone because of her own decisions and it was acknowledged her looking for Rachel was yet another instance of her doing something out of her own selfishness rather than something for her and Rachel. Shelby is a peek into Rachel’s future if she continued to push other people away, and through Shelby and the club, Rachel learned that she doesn’t always have to be alone. I think a big misconception about Rachel’s character is that she’s a Broadway machine and everyone else just gets in her way, because I think that misses a big part of her character is her longing for connection and love. If Don’t Rain On My Parade is Rachel’s most character defining song, I think People from Funny Girl is the second most important song to her even if it isn’t sung until season 5.

My dear friend @inmediasras linked me to this character personality survey and I was really entertained by the results, especially once I did the 140-question version (which did somewhat alter the results, though the top ones remained similar—all my friends who took the quiz got a ton of female characters, while my results were very noticeably more "masculine", and doing the more detailed version only made my results even more dominated by dudes, lol).
I wasn't familiar with some of the characters, but the quiz has an option where you can break down your results by the source texts/media in addition to the overall lists of the most highly-correlated characters. Predictably, I vacillated between report methods (based on Pearson correlation or mean difference) and also about what should be my lowest threshold for "counting" the results. I settled on a threshold of 65% for counting any result and excluded characters from texts I'm not familiar with.

#isabel talks#isabel does quizzes#psychometrics#sorry not listing every text#i think the most drastic changes between the 40-question results and 140-question results#were that the correlations for all characters tended to be lower (70s becomes 'high' instead of upper 80s)#and that amy from tbbt and bones from bones and data from st and jane bennet dropped much further down#while darcy and simon shot up the ranking#not all that surprising really!#also edward cullen scraping into the results when he wasn't in the original results is really funny to me#i remember when the genderswapped twilight came out and people were like 'edythe's behavior isn't less problematic'#and i just thought: that is extremely true! but now it's hot#anyway i kind of wonder if part of the reason for my very male results reflects storytelling tendencies... who gets coded as autistic etc

Can you give a run down of Blaine’s relationships with the original six girls, and season 4 new girls. Rank importance to him?
i giggled a little at first because. Rank Women BUT this was actually really fun to think about !!
tina #1 OBVIOUSLY. "you are the most important person to me at this school right now" + "i know i can't possibly leave here without having at least one slow dance with you" + all those shots of blaine hugging tina or them holding hands/linking arms in the hallway are so !!! blaine joining the cheerios with her, hanging out with her & sam as a #Trio, comforting her when she cries, supporting her status as prom queen (though he did admit he fell asleep texting her about her prom dress 😭), singing a duet with her at nationals, poking fun at her for mistakenly being into gay guys lightheartedly ^_^ also tina is SO ride or die for blaine. she's the only one who voted blaine in the blaine vs sue feud duet off !! she's the only one blaine told about his crush on sam !!! they went to sadie hawkins together !!!!!! they have super cringe nicknames for each other (blainey days bling bling tay tay queen t) !!!!!!!!! but they can also be super snarky with each other LOL like blaine saying "thanks tina" + tina going full diva on an (oblivious) blaine <33
santana... this might be my bias talking but i imagine they're somewhat tight... "it's not unusual" is amazing performance fodder (though rip purple piano 💔), but also santana stepped up for him (and kurt) against karofsky in night of neglect, and she was willing to risk everything in getting revenge on behalf on blaine in michael (they spend a sizable number of scenes together in that ep)... also they have that fun dynamic where santana makes little disgusted faces at certain things blaine does in performances ("love doesn't come in a minute" + santana's shocked face during the dance breakdown of "hungry like the wolf / rio" + blaine rapping in "perfect" + santana giving kurt an offended look during "it's not right but it's okay") also they walked down the wedding aisle together 🏳️🌈
rachel comes next i SUPPOSE but i always kind of got an impression they were more coworkers than friends even during high school 😭 they had a shocking number of duets for a duo that hardly seemed to relate to each other otherwise but they DID get drunk together & kissed in biota and also starred in west side story as leads... rachel is definitely closer to kurt (e.g. she "sided" with kurt during the dance with somebody ep + hummelberry were actually college roomies) but it does seem like blaine & rachel coordinated some nyada assignments together, also blaine cheered her up in s6 when she was in her flop era !! doesn't seem like she kept too close contact with him after he & kurt broke up though because she didn't know about blaine and karofsky dating when she spoke with kurt later on
MERCEDES AND BLAINE WERE ROOMMATES. so much lost potential there like they could've been Peak "this is my boyfriend sam and this is his boyfriend blaine" energy... that one scene where mercedes walks in on a million lit candles in the apartment and immediately goes like "BLAINE?" but blaine was literally guiltless in that endeavor... also mercedes invited to the bachelor chalet ❤️
brittany - weirdly hostile and friendly with blaine at the same time. they were hanging out during lunch together and blaine asks how santana is?? they also performed "shout" and couple other fun numbers together & she kissed him on the cheek during "heroes"... they also made out in a made-up glee script (WHY 😭). blaine & artie arranged & choreographed ULTIMATE CAMP "boys/boyfriend" to cheer brittany up !! brittany banned hair gel from prom and then made fun of blaine's hair?? also asked if blaine was born in america during the s4 elections arc 💀 anderpierce going head to head as president candidates during elections would've been interesting but she was paralleled to sam instead... although i DO have to thank her for giving us the blaine & sam pres/vp duo ^_^
kitty & artie had apparently invited blaine to go out bumper bowling with them but he declined because he didn't want to be a third wheel (sam voice Fifth wheel). when tina pokes fun at blaine's very obvious feelings about sam during "against all odds" kitty smacks her on the arm and says "shut it" LOLL there's a lot of snark between her and blaine, with comments from kitty like "SOMEONE'S manstruating" or "no one reads show choir blogs, just you blaine" or blaine saying in his time capsule "kitty, who’s kind of a bitch but we kind of love her" ?? also anderwilde appearing as the dirty dancing + twist duo in the pro-twerking presentation 😭
the marley and blaine "i may have a juicebox" anderson relationship is a little scant, but seems friendly !! that one time mr. shue kept shutting the glee clubbers down when marley wanted to suggest one of her original songs for regionals, blaine put together a meeting and they tried out her songs ("all or nothing" blaine & marley duet ^_^) also that one scene where marley's like "we should light up sparklers INDOORS" blaine's like 😕🥰 about it in response LOL also there's this little moment in "chasing pavements" where blaine guides marley to the center of the stage when she was singing in the wings <3 and a shot in "diva" where marley's trying to fix his hair and blaine acts all diva-like. crumbs truly
unique & blaine have that fun little rapport going where she talks about her fake boobs LOLL like there's that scene and there's also the scene where she's like "you might need some woman parts to help you sell that" to him and hands him padding right out of her shirt 😭 also that OUTRAGEOUS scene where unique's like "say i'm a girl" and ryder is kind of just squirming standing there. but blaine turns to ryder with eyebrows raised like slay king
sorry quinn, i can't remember anything beyond that one time blaine said "looking good fabray" as he passed her in the hallways after she donned the cheerio uniform in s3
the ranking itself is a little fuzzy by the end just because like. it really is all crumbs LOL blaine canonically has maybe 3 friends and he married one of them but i can STILL DREAM...

Was Kurtcedes not replaced by Blaine coming along and taking up all Kurt’s time in season 2? As she didn’t like being the third wheel in The Substitute? I suppose they could have had Kurtcedes together in New York but I guess by then Kurt was Rachel’s side kick. And Mercedes is a lovely character, there wouldn’t be half as much drama going on in the loft in 4/5 as there was with Kurtcheltana.
Also regarding bi Blaine. Personally I don’t like the idea. Why? Well he’d have just been another Sam or Artie figure - dating all the girls in Glee club to provide various stories. Please not another Brittany boyfriend to piss off Santana. Maybe Blaine would have been nice with Tina, in 4/5, purely because he did love her platonically.
But I think it would have changed the Klaine relationships if Blaine had a history of previous girlfriends, maybe even previous boyfriends. The idea of them being each other’s first love, first time, first everything (and last!) and their love and devotion pretty much to no one else, just lifts their whole story. Maybe I’m just being old fashioned.
But I’m more drawn to the bi Sam idea, and the Blam option, if I had to choose a midgame for Blaine.
This has been sitting in my drafts for over a year now, lol...

Re: Mercedes -
No, I'd argue that since Kurt was becoming way more popular (I believe he was the most popular character from the show) the writers wanted to capitalize on that bumping him up to a lead character. And thus, it'd be better for the writers to make him share time with the actual main character Rachel.
This is why Season 3 Hummelberry was shoved so hard down our throats. Blaine was a part of Kurt's story, and while there are a lot of reasons as to why Blaine faded into the background more during season 3 (mainly Darren's schedule) by season 3, they wanted to make Hummelberry a feature, and not have Klaine (or Kurt's individual story) such a main thing.
Essentially - Kurt's individual arc stops at season 2, because he becomes an accessory in Rachel's story (really, the way Blaine was an accessory to his story in season 2.)
Mercedes and Kurtcedes becomes a relic of the original landscape of the show, unfortunately. They never wanted to Mercedes to a higher tier, hence why she became a B and later C-list character. (To which I lament.)
****
Meanwhile, Bi Blaine!
I remember there was a time when people worried that if Blaine was made bi that'd mean, for some strange reason, that it'd cheapen the Klaine "gay" experience or something weird. :P (I'm definitely not saying that's what you're insinuating - just thinking out loud.)
While I personally don't see the character as bi - I'm always up for more bisexual representation. And I agree there were was a myriad of ways they could have achieved that -- Artie would have been an interesting choice. Jesse St. James another.
I wouldn't have minded if Blaine had experiences before Kurt, either, tbh. And I assumed he had at least made out with people (both boys and girls) before Kurt. I personally don't feal that more or less experience with other people has any affect on one's current relationship. However - people are free to enjoy any aspects of the story how they choose to - and that's fine by me. :)

have you ever felt like Blaine (like Rachel) also suffered from oversaturation? I watched Glee while it aired and remember feeling like he was getting almost as many solos as Rachel in the later seasons.
I appreciate this question because it gives me the opportunity to whip out the old singing stats for a second. But first, to answer the question, yes. Yes, I've felt like that. Particularly with solos that felt very, hmm, "let's give Darren a song to sing so it can do numbers on itunes". To be clear, that's not a judgment of Blaine's character, who I actually wish benefitted from the screentime his number of solos came with and had more character moments instead. But already in season 2 most of the Warblers numbers were Blaine solos and then there were ones like the prom solo INGTYBHTDWY, which not only am I not gonna write out but which imo is unjustifiable in-universe. He doesn't even go here! And that's not me saying the song is bad or that he "doesn't deserve any solos" or whatever, just that it did result in the oversaturation that you speak of, and in me sort of tuning out for a lot of the solos that felt like they were just filling a quota of Blaine solos than progressing the story. I don't think it was that big of an issue, but certainly noticeable.
Now, that's the how it came across to me, personally part. The other part is the cold hard facts and the numbers. Since you mentioned it feeling like he almost got as many as Rachel, I took it upon me to nerd out a tiny bit like I used to on reddit.
Based on the criteria I have for my handy database of Glee songs, 44 songs can qualify as Rachel solos and 29 as Blaine ones. That difference is mainly put into perspective when comparing these top 2 solo-ers to the third-place Mercedes, who had 24. Because Blaine is much, much closer to Mercedes than he is to Rachel, isn't he? Though, keep in mind that he wasn't in season 1 at all.
Broken down by seasons, Rachel's and Blaine's solos:
In seasons 2 and 3 already he's just one solo behind and even has the distinction of singing more than Rachel in season 4. That anomaly is counterbalanced with the season 5 decline and then Blaine doesn't get any solos in season 6 at all, but if we're gonna compare the two it's clear that Blaine could indeed hold a candle to Rachel.
If I may, this ask has inspired me to look at one more chart and that's average number of solos per appearance. Because, as I mentioned, Blaine managed to score more solos than Mercedes despite missing an entire season so I think that's interesting to look at as well. So here's a chart showing this average of solos per appearance, adjusted for the episodes characters actually appeared in. Apart from Rachel and Blaine, we have the next four characters with the most solos.
Now, keep in mind that these are small numbers we're talking about* but they still reflect the truth of solo distribution in Glee. Rachel's lead is such that she's still ahead of Blaine even adjusted for number of episodes, but the gap is now smaller between Blaine and Rachel than between him and Mercedes (relatively). And then Mercedes' lead ahead of Artie and Santana is considerable; keeping in mind, she had 29 solos and the latter two 16 and 14 respectively. Just to note, Santana having fewer solos but the same average as Artie means that she was better utilized overall, in this sense. Santana had the same number of solos in fewer overall episodes, and she was barely featured in season 1, so. Just a sidenote. And Kurt is again much closer to these two than the gaps we see previously. That's true for all things Glee singing stats, btw. Once you get past the top 3, sometimes top 5-7, the gaps seem pretty minuscule compared to these big numbers up front.
*Small as in Mercedes had a quarter of a solo per episode small.
Not sure you expected numbers when you sent in this ask lol but here they are anyway. Again, to answer with subjective feelings, yeah I did feel like Blaine was oversaturated but I only minded when there was no rhyme or reason plot and/or character-wise. Same with Rachel, actually. Far from Glee's biggest problem but since some of the major issues were results of time constraints, too much singing not enough plot didn't help.
#man i kinda wanna get back into glee stats#idk i just haven't yet gotten around to migrating that to tumblr#anon#glee asks#glee singing statistics#also this isn't anti blaine don't @ me#him singing a lot is like. fine. i just don't like when things aren't synchronized with the plot

I saw a post from a Seblaine page on Facebook saying Grant Gustin said he'll be willing to return to a Glee reboot, remake or reunion, then the post went on saying Darren would be the first to agree to that as well, then some comments hoping Kurt and Blaine divorce and Blaine dates Sebastian, it disgusted me, but it got me thinking... If there was some sort of reunion episode showing where are the characters in the future, I do believe Darren and Grant would return, however Idk if Chris would, thus making it possible for Ryan Murphy or whatever person to destroy Klaine, giving me ICarly reboot vibes, I get why Jennette doesn't wanna act again, but at the end of Sam & Cat there was a hint of Seddie only to be dismissed in this new ICarly where they're trying to make Creddie happen, anyway, do you think Chris would return to anything Glee related to play Kurt alongside Darren? And if not, are the writers really capable of making Seblaine canon? I'm literally afraid lol, canon married Klaine is the only thing we have against crazy Seblainers
Well I'm gonna disagree with you on that last part right off the bat lmao. I think we have way more than just married Klaine on our side. See: the entirety of canon Klaine
Honestly if they did do a reboot, I couldn't see Chris coming back. Unless maybe RM was very lightly involved and he got a good paycheck out of it. Maybe if they let him write another ep? Idk. It seems unlikely
But any idea of a reboot seems in incredibly poor taste. Chris probably wouldn't do it, I'm sure Dianna wouldn't do it, Naya couldn't do it... Kevin and Jenna probably would akljflksd. Amber, idk, I really don't know. If the general public hates s4-6 then they're going to hate a reboot that's just Rachel, Blaine, Tina, Artie, probably Sam, and fucking Sebastian lol. Like idk what you want me to do with that
Besides even if beyond all logic and taste they did actually go through with the reboot and beyond all sense and dignity they made Seblaine canon alfjdslkf... I would not give a fuck
How many people watched this new Teen Wolf movie and accepted it as the canon continuation of the series they loved?? Hopefully none bc that thing sounded like trash
They're making a new Avatar series about the original gaang, whomst I LOVE with my whole heart. If it sucks, I'm hitting the bricks, it's not my canon. Hell even some of the stuff that came up in Korra about the og gaang, I was like, "well that's just not true"
If for some reason a reboot came up and Seblaine was canon I would say "no it's not" and go on about my business. And I'm sure most other people would do the same lol. For all reasons necessary, not just a shitty ship happening
#glee#lol glee#asks#anonymous#gleeboot#anti seblaine#anti sebastian smythe#likeee idk#theyre already floundering for attention with that nasty ass surviving glee 'doc' or whatever it was called#so i dont think a gleeboot is in the works#if it was?#itd be bad#would i watch it?#fuck no#would anyone watch it?#maybe the seblaine fans and anyone else who likes watching car crashes happen in real time#count me out#hashtag not my canon

Kurt Glee Rewatch: Ballad
So happy I can skip all the Rachel and Schue scenes omg
Look at this boy, so besotted. I don’t really mind that Kurt had a crush on Finn, but I feel like it could’ve been handled better? They sometimes really played into the ‘predatory gay’ stereotype which was just... oof.
Add to list of things we know about Matt Rutherford: He once had a spider in his ear
End of list.
Also, how is it we got 2 songs from Schue but we didn’t get to see any of the other ballads? I’m so curious about the Artie and Quinn duet omg.
I kinda love Kurt’s sweater here lol.
I like that when Finn lashes out, Kurt calls him out like. Can you not.
But then it’s the whole ‘girls are your problem’ thing and... oof. Though that wasn’t v subtle? Finn later says he knows about the crush so even here he could make it clear like ‘hey, don’t like you that way, etc’. Bc for all these eps Finn just gets awkward and avoids the topic until it all boils over in Theatricality.
Kurt is v intense in this ep, but if Finn called him out on it here, maybe he would stop?
But also I appreciate that this is a very real crush for Kurt (idk if he truly loved Finn, more just puppy love) but he falls more when they talk, bond over their parents, etc. Like, it’s not just him thinking Finn’s cute and it’s more than Finn being tho first guy to be nice to him.
And Kurt does see Finn’s discomfort, so he suggests their ballad be to his unborn daughter rather than between them. So he has some awareness.
Lowkey, a lot of the Finn/Kurt bonding scenes are before the wedding... bc after that I can’t think of any real convo they have with each other. Maybe after Finn proposes?
And also yay Kurt plays piano but lol Chris doesn’t so the v careful camera angles...
Kay but the scene with Finn and Quinn arguing and she says ‘you’re wrong, I’m right, I’m smart, you’re dumb’ all I could think of was Matilda bc... literally the same line.
Ofc Kurt, lowkey a sneak, seizes chance to comfort Finn. Again, laying v thick with the ‘enough to make you want to give up girls altogether’ like oh babe. Oh honey.
And then Finn says ‘haha yeah...’ awkwardly like dude. You clearly know what’s going on, so say something. can even make it a joke like ‘ah, too bad I like them too much’ idk just.
Maybe I just think every problem can be solved with communication. That’s just me.
Aw, Finn and Kurt’s first meeting... and then they bond over glee and football (for like, the month he was on the team. if that)
And then the skincare and I love when Kurt says ‘T-zone’ and Finn looks at his crotch like wtf.
I think Kurt has a thing for guys who... aren’t the brightest. Finn, then Sam, then Blaine who took a million years to realize Kurt liked him.
This is the second time Finn puts a helmet on Kurt lol.
I like how wholesome Kurt’s crush can be. He’s just happy to sit and talk to Finn.
Okay, so obviously Finn is being nice and that shouldn’t be immediately taken as hope, but I get Kurt’s POV.
First off, he’s young and teens are dumb (no offense teens). And after all the bullying, this is the first time there’s a guy who’s nice to him, who spends time with him, who he has stuff in common with him. Ofc Kurt is going to fall hard.
But Kurt does go a bit extra in trying to make things happen. And the whole anti-Quinn thing is pretty awks. Kurt can be v sneaky but also sometimes I’m just... wtf is his plan?
And again, could’ve been handled better if Finn called Kurt out on his crush and had a conversation. But then, Finn is a dumb teen boy.
Kurt is too, despite his making fun of them...
I will never understand ironing socks, lol
I find it so sweet that Finn calls Kurt for help. The friendship is so great and would only improve after Kurt’s over his crush... but then we get no bro scenes. So rude.
But... the song. Who picked the freaking song?? Like, revealing the pregnancy without Quinn’s permission is already bad, but then the song is so cringe and the scene is so painful...
This is what happens when you have two dumb teen boys. Poor Quinn.
Yep, Kurt is sufficiently guilty. I guess when you have a dad like Burt, you forget that other parents can suck sometimes.
I do like it didn’t turn into even more drama, and Finn doesn’t blame Kurt etc. It was a mistake and they can move on.
And Kurt tries to confess... this poor boy.
And Finn brushes it off. When he could say “Look, you’re a great friend...” Like, boy, that was your opening.
Then we get the song and I love when Mercedes leads Finn in she’s like ‘Open your eyes, I didn’t tell you to close your eyes’
And sweet as the song is... Finn prob would’ve been happier with the cake.
Classic Kurt doesn’t sing in the song. Lowkey, even when an ep is more kurt-centric, he still doesn’t get to sing? Maybe bc it’s the start and Chris wasn’t trained enough yet? (he didn’t consider himself a singer). Might be that bc we don’t really hear him in backing vocals of group songs as well.
Kurt is not one to be subtle about his crushes, damn. ALso, return of the single ladies hand at the end there lol
Next up: Even more devious!Kurt
