PHEW I'm already coming along with my comic for the @kennedycenter based on this year's Arts Summit!✍️The theme this year was storytelling so it's VERY up my alley. 😆It's been a fun challenge to weave all the big ideas of this inspiring event together visually and thematically. It’s hard to put into words how momentous this past weekend has been for me, but I’ll do my best. It was the culmination of a year-long fellowship as a #CitzenArtist with the #KennedyCenter, and we went out with a beautiful bang-bang! 💥 In doing so I have only just begun to realize the potential in bringing forth stories of the fabled #LittleSyria neighborhood of #NYC to life on the national stage (watch a 10 min teaser / medley we put together for the #ArtsSummit — link in bio!) ... Grateful to my collaborators @ronniemalley & @thanksjoey for beginning this creative journey with me — so excited to see what the future holds for us & this unique piece of performative #art we stitched together. 💫 Grateful to the #writers / #poets / #musicians / #scholars / #philosophers/ #shopkeepers / restaurant #owners / #shisha smokers / #peddlers / everyday #people who inhabited this part of #Manhattan over a century ago; & in doing so laid the foundations of #ArabAmerican culture as we know it. ⏳ Grateful to my fellow CAF cohort for being so inspiring throughout the year — getting to know you all was by far the most rewarding takeaway of this whole experience. 🙏🏼 Grateful to the @kennedycenter team for being so attentive & gracious with their time / resources — I really believe you when you say this is just the beginning of our relationship & I’m stoked to see what we can cook up in the months / years ahead. 🧿 Last but certainly not least, I’m forever indebted to #MrsOffendum for selflessly sacrificing so much of herself to care for our children / home — affording me the opportunity to make meaningful & impactful art for my #community.
