PIGEON FEATHERS
by Adele Renault
Adele Renault grew up in a musical family on a farm in the Belgian Ardennes. Traveling independently from age 14 she spent time in Venezuela and in Brighton, England before receiving a degree in graphic design in Brussels. Renault has studied and practiced a range of art styles and mediums, from classical oil painting to aerosol graffiti and now travels, paints, and runs Amsterdam’s @UnrulyGallery with partner Niels Shoe Meulman. While Renault frequently paints portraits of people, often the elderly or homeless, it’s her paintings of pigeons that she is increasingly recognized for. In November, 2017 she spent more than a week painting these pigeon feathers at Ocean and E Forsyth Streets for Art RePublic in Jacksonville, Florida. @adelerenault @artrepublicglobal

ART(RE)PUBLIC, JACKSONVILLE
by Case
“If you put interesting art into an area, interesting people want to be there.” —Jessica Santiago, President / Curator, Art(Re)Public
Continuing civilization’s long history of patronage, Jessica Santiago launched ArtRepublic so a global community of patrons could enable artists to “showcase an unedited version of themselves” and connect directly with the people they inspire. For Art(Re)Public project’s inaugural 2016 expo German photorealistic artist Andreas von Chrzanowski, aka Case, joined 12 other world class artists in transforming the walls of Jacksonville, Florida. Taking inspiration directly from the city for this wall on W. Forsyth, Case’s recurring theme of hands are shown holding a stack of books—itself a reference to a nationally recognized local bookstore—with titles says @StreetArtNews, “carrying ‘hidden’ nods to city’s past and future.” @case_maclaim @artrepublicglobal

ARTREPUBLIC JACKSONVILLE
by Jason Woodside
Believing that art is the missing link needed to create wellness in our busy digital society ArtRepublic was created in Jacksonville, Florida to unleash artists and shape culture. Originally from Miami Jason Woodside is now based in New York City where Widewalls reports he sees his contributions to its street art scene as “sparkling sunshine from his native Florida brought to the concrete jungle of NYC.” Woodside’s bold colors and hypnotizing patterns fit perfectly with the goals of ArtRepublic so in 2016 he was was invited to add this striking work at E Forsyth and Lafayette Streets in the Jacksonville Sports Complex area. @jasonwoodside @artrepublicglobal

“DANGER OF EXTINCTION”
by WAONE Interesni Kazki
@JuxtopozMag reported that in early 2016 Vladimir Manzhos, aka WAONE of the renowned Ukrainian duo Interesni Kazki, began experimenting with a new kind of black and white mural design, “basically transferring his vintage-feel ink illustrations into a large format.” Despite being a protected species since the 1930s the North Atlantic whale remains one of the most endangered large whales. Migrating from near Maine to the coastal waters off of Jacksonville, Florida to give birth to their young, WAONE highlighted the plight of the whales with this elaborate composition on W. Forsyth St. in downtown Jacksonville. Influenced by ancient books and illustrations and armed with nothing more than a brush and black paint WAONE painted this wall for @ArtRepublicGlobal in collaboration with @ArtSynonym and @Pangeaseed. @waone_interesnikazki

“FLORA + FAUNA”
by Reka
Now based in Berlin, Australian James Reka’s life as an artist began in the alleyways and train lines of Melbourne. The bold clean lines and colors of Reka’s surrealist, abstracted creatures have emerged from his Pop Art-influenced logo design background and have now been painted on the walls of three continents. In 2016, painting for Art Republic at the corner of Water and S Pearl Streets in Jacksonville, Florida, Reka says this huge 9-story wall inspired by the nearby Atlantic Ocean, took 4 days just to sketch and 3 weeks to complete even with the help of an assistant. @rekaone @artrepublicglobal

ART REPUBLIC JAX
by Astro ODV CBS
Inspired by artists such as Hartung, Vasarely and Mucha, self-taught Parisian artist Astro has “developed a unique abstract style that combines geometry, calligraphy and dynamic forms,” and exploits “the subtlety of shadows and lights, the strength of colors, and the perspective of depths.” Astro’s energy and originality have made him a mainstay at mural festivals around the world. This example of Astro’s work at Lafayette and E. Forsyth Streets in Jacksonville, FL was completed in November, 2016 for ArtRepublic—a global movement committed to “creating human culture in a digital age and honoring the true role of an artist in society.” @astro_odv_cbs @ArtRepublicGlobal

ART (RE)PUBLIC
by Phlegm
Born in Wales and now living in Sheffield, prolific UK cartoonist and illustrator Phlegm has gained a global following for his detailed black and white narrative work, typically featuring an odd cast of characters from his comics. In 2016 Phlegm was in Jacksonville, Florida for the inaugural Art Republic JAX event. Painting on W. Monroe St. in his immediately recognizable style he told @UrbaniteWebzine “like all my wall work the imagery comes from comics I storyboard in my sketchbooks. I then paint the wall with a single frame. That way walls become moments from my untold stories.” @phlegm_art @artrepublicglobal
