If you want your colors to stay bright, mix them sparingly. The more you mix colors, the more you lose saturation. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. Do not be afraid to invent lighting. It is more important to tell the story than to have accurate lighting. 3D art requires more realistic lighting. In my illustration, I darkened Beauty’s skirt. I wanted the brightest light to be around her face. I did not include strong cast shadows, or occlusion, because I did not want to draw the eye to those areas. Remember, the most contrasting part of the image is what stands out first. 3. To get the clearest colors: mix watercolor in a tray, then allow the pigment to settle for a moment. Skim your clean brush over the surface of the water and paint in layers. I show this method in an IGTV video. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This time I did not use gold leaf, but acrylic paint for the gold touches. It allowed for better control. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Note, watercolor is translucent, not transparent. Therefor, I had to redraw all the lines. 😁✍🏻😵 That took about 6 hours. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🤔 What are your favourite watercolor brushes: brand, shape, and sizes? 🎨 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hands down the best brushes I own are Windsor & Newton Series 7. I was lucky to find them once at a liquidation sale. They are super expensive, but what a difference. They hold more color, create sharper lines, very smooth... I’m saving to get another one.
