“Os pontos de partida do meu trabalho são o tempo, a localização e o estado. A obra assume a forma de objetos, instalações e performances, realizadas individualmente ou em colaboração com outras pessoas. Meu interesse se revela em torno de lugares que têm uma forte conexão com o solo. Alguns são densos, concentrados, expandidos. Outros carregam a marca de atividades passadas. Alguns lugares se abrem e convidam à ação. A escolha da cor e do material é crucial. Eu dobro, vinco, construo, embalo e prego lã, feltro e ferro. Eu faço crochê em metal e outros materiais mais grosseiros e experimento diferentes tipos de cores. Combinando as obras com vídeo, foto e áudio.”

“The starting points for my work are time, location and state. The work takes the form of objects, installations and performances, made individually or in collaboration with others. My interest reveals around places that have a strong connection to the ground. Some are dense, concentrated, overgrown. Others carry the imprint of past activities. Some places open themselves and invite action. The choice of colour and material is crucial. I fold, crease, build, pack, and pleat wool, felt and iron. I do crochet in metal and other coarser materials and experiment with different types of colour. Combining the works with video, photo and audio.”

“Monica Priotti utiliza os recursos que a natureza disponibiliza, neste caso, diferentes tipos de folhas, recolhidas nas suas viagens e passeios, submetendo-as a um rigoroso processo de seleção, limpeza, prensagem e tratamento de preservação. Antes de intervir em cada folha, a artista analisa o tamanho, as cores, a textura e a forma, originando um diálogo entre a artista e o suporte natural. Suas mãos desenham as sensações transmitidas, iniciando o esboço do projeto, a escolha da técnica (bordado, crochê, bisturi, fio falso, outros ...) e os materiais a serem utilizados. O processo criativo pode durar uma sessão ou várias sessões, dependendo da fragilidade do suporte, da técnica e do design escolhido. Concluída a escultura de pequeno formato, ela é fotografada e emoldurada adequadamente para sua devida conservação, dando nova vida ao suporte efêmero, transformando cada folha em uma obra única, em uma nova história.”

“Monica Priotti uses the resources that nature makes available, in this case, different types of leaves, collected in her trips and walks, subjecting them to a rigorous process of selection, cleaning, pressing and preservation treatment. Before intervening on each sheet, the artist analyzes the size, colors, texture and shape, creating a dialogue between the artist and the natural support. Your hands draw the transmitted sensations, starting the project outline, choosing the technique (embroidery, crochet, scalpel, fake thread, others ...) and the materials to be used. The creative process can last one session or several sessions, depending on the fragility of the support, the technique and the design chosen. After the small format sculpture is finished, it is photographed and framed appropriately for its proper conservation, giving new life to the ephemeral support, transforming each leaf into a unique work, in a new history.”

“Partindo da representação do corpo humano na História da Arte, da dramaticidade na representação de protagonistas heroicos (históricos, religiosos ou mitológicos) e da​ observação do meu próprio corpo, criei desenhos contendo figuras humanas dissecadas, sem distinção de gênero ou raça. Estas figuras representadas em situações simbólicas de vida, morte e encontro com seus “duplos” têm suporte em questões observadas na produção textual do mitologista americano Joseph Campbell. Ele apontou reincidências nos mitos de criação de inúmeros povos antigos, onde a relação de vida e morte se baseia no desencontro/separação desse ser “uno” e retorno a ele em morte.[...]”

“Starting from the representation of the human body in Art History, from the drama in representation of heroic protagonists (historical, religious or mythological) and observation of my own body, I created drawings containing dissected human figures, without distinction of gender or race. These figures represented in symbolic situations of life, death and encounter with his “doubles” are supported by issues observed in the textual production of the American mythologist Joseph Campbell. He pointed to recurrences in the creation myths of countless ancient peoples, where the relationship of life and death is based on the mismatch / separation of this “one” being and return to it in death. “[...] O tecido indiano tem desenhos e motivos tradicionais, que uso também no meu desenho diário. Minha influência para os tecidos, já estava em minha casa, porque minha mãe e avó costumavam fazer colchões, colchas, cortinas e muitos outros objetos de decoração para a nossa casa e quando criança fui ensinada a costurar e fazer crochê com minha mãe. Esse aprendizado foi o começo da minha arte que agora me levou à fabricação de visuais contemporâneos em Katran e em técnica mídia mista. Estou levando a arte do Katran em um contexto contemporâneo, uso esse tipo de material e exploro o significado dele. Eu uso principalmente materiais prontos, dadas as cores, e os coloco todos juntos. Estou particularmente interessada em criar trabalhos que abordem temas sobre mulheres, envelhecimento, memória, história e outros temas sociais. Muito do meu trabalho é representativo, mas também gosto de trabalhar com cores ousadas e tecidos étnicos.”

“[...] Indian fabric has traditionally designed and motifs, that I am using in my daily drawing​ also. My​ influence towards fabrics, were in my home because my mother, grandmother used to make mattresses, quilts, hangings and many more decorative objects for our house and As a youngster I was taught to sew and crochet by my mother. That learning was the beginning of my art making which has now led to fabricating contemporary Katran visuals and mixed media art. I am taking forward Katran art in contemporary context I uses this kind of material and explores the meaning of it. I use mostly ready-made materials given colors, and put them all together. I am particularly interested in creating work addressing themes about women, aging, memory,​ history and other social themes. Much of my work is representational but I also enjoy working with bold colors and ethnic fabrics.”

Estou interessada em reenquadrar os ideais de identidade feminina e como isso pode ser traduzido por meio do feltro que em si tem sido objeto de rebaixamento.”

“Grotesque, fleshy, mottled, hairy, macabre, muscular, and undeniably feminine, my feltworks’ purpose is two fold; to depict an uncouth form of femininity that in its vulgarity is supremely relatable and for use as a talisman of protection in that the feltwork retains its utilitarian properties, cloaking the wearer in the warmth of its fibers and providing a boundary between the self and the other. I am interested in reframing ideals of feminine identity and how that can be translated through the felt medium which itself has been subject to relegation.”

O primeiro passo é selecionar a matéria-prima: um tecido bicolor, com fibras de cores diferentes em cada direção. Em seguida, ela puxa fios contíguos de uma direção específica, revelando a silhueta do que quer ser representado, como se sempre estivesse lá e acabasse de ser descoberto.“

“Paula Ceroni explores the threads as a way to represent identities. By pulling threads off, she does to a fabric what a sculptor does to a stone. The first step is to select the raw material: a two-tone fabric, with fibers of different color in each direction. Then she pulls off contiguous threads of a specific direction, revealing the silhouette of what wants to be represented, as if has always being there and has just being discovered.”
