Hello 👋 Merry Christmas!!! I’m your Santa! 🎁 Nice to meet you
I’ve never played Chrono Trigger but that’s great to hear about the soundtrack. I’ll have to look up a playthrough
Thanks for the Barenaked Ladies recs lol
Radiohead: their most famous album is OK Computer, but all their albums are good. They changed up their style a lot, going from grunge in the early 90s with their debut album Pablo Honey to more experimental rock a few years later, to electronic music in the early 2000s with Kid A and Amnesiac and maybe Hail to the Thief. 2007’s In Rainbows was… hard to describe but it’s very good and one album I have to listen from start to finish with no skippable tracks. With their most recent albums The King of Limbs and A Moon Shaped Pool they dipped into jazzy instrumentation. They’re on hiatus right now but the singer and one of the guitarists is in a band called The Smile with a jazz drummer from another group. Sorry for the wall of text lol, I love Radiohead’s music
The HU: Mongolian folk metal with traditional Mongolian influences sung in Mongolian. Their second album Rumble of Thunder is what I’d suggest for harder music. I don’t speak Mongolian but I love the energy lol. There’s other Mongolian folk metal groups like Tengger Cavalry who were from Inner Mongolia (part of China now) and were early pioneers of the genre though the HU is the most well known right now. I know of other bands from Mongolia and other countries with similar cultures who do throat singing but their names escape me at the moment. If I remember I’ll let you know
And a happy New Year!!! Sorry for the late reply, but thank you so much for being my Secret Santa this year, it was a lot of fun!
Ooooh that does sound interesting — I like it when bands really switch up their sound over time, it's so cool to see how an artist's style adapts to new influences. I'll have to listen to In Rainbows, and probably one of the more recent albums, too, since I love jazzy influence lol!
Oh, I have heard of The HU actually! What a cool genre to get into. I know a guy who lived in Mongolia for a few years and everything I've heard about the country and culture is just incredible! He wasn't specifically into folk metal, but I had another friend who got really into that genre and gave me a fun, albeit brief overview once 😂

[Album of the day] Froglord - Save The Frogs
Bristol, UK // 2021 // Swamp Records (later)
[Genres] stoner doom, groove metal
[Themes] SaveTheFrogs.com, Teocipactli the Divine Crocodile
[FFO] concept albums, charitable music, eco preservation
[Thoughts] This is an EP from a solo artist who's a decent guy and his whole thing is saving the frogs and preventing us from the consequences of ecological collapse. This EP is what originally caught my attention, particularly the throat singing.*
However, other releases are also good. Amphibian Ascending mythologizes the Froglord, following the deity through a narrative: the Froglord creates the Earth as a habitat for amphibians to flourish, and upon returning 10,000 years later is disgusted what the ape men have done to the biome. The Mystic Toad and Army of Frogs continues the tale; A Frog In The Bog is a split with Bog Wizard, a stoner doom battle won by Our Frogther Who Art In The Swamp. Later releases trend towards nu/groove metal, which is less my speed but still executed well.
Finally, there's a new release dropping in one week (2024.03.09), titled after the Froglord's sacred mantra: LIVE BY THE FUZZ OR DIE BY THE SLIME.
o()xxxx[:::::::::::::::::> o()xxxx[:::::::::::::::::> o()xxxx[:::::::::::::::::>
* I was very into Tengger Cavalry at the time, still my favorite Mongolian folk metal project.
o()xxxx[:::::::::::::::::> o()xxxx[:::::::::::::::::> o()xxxx[:::::::::::::::::>
[From the band/label]
"As a musician and a frog enthusiast, I send my thanks and respect to FROGLORD for his fabulous contributions to frog conservation, environmental education and the musical community. Long live the frogs and the ectoplasmic slime!" -- SAVE THE FROGS! Founder Dr. Kerry Kriger SaveTheFrogs.com
The mission of SAVE THE FROGS! is to protect amphibian populations and to promote a society that respects and appreciates nature and wildlife. We work in California, across the USA and around the world to create a better planet for humans and wildlife.
Frog populations have been declining worldwide at unprecedented rates, and nearly one-third of the world’s amphibian species are threatened with extinction. Since 2008, SAVE THE FROGS! has been at the forefront of worldwide amphibian conservation efforts.
SAVE THE FROGS! is a 501(c)(3) public charity, funded primarily by donations from nature enthusiasts like you. If you share our vision of a world in which amphibians and humans co-exist and the sounds of frogs calling still fills the nighttime air, please support our efforts by donating to SAVE THE FROGS! today. Thank you!

For the artist ask meme: 🙃, 🎼, and 🌊
🙃 Which is easier: faces facing left, right, or front view? I think all three are relatively the same skill wise tbh. I do, however, find 3/4 views to be most visually interesting! 🎼 Your favorite music to draw to right now? I'm using my Ashkhan playlist (Mongolian folk metal) and getting a fuck tonne of mileage out of this track in particular. (War Horse, Tengger Cavalry) (Tumblr hates spotify tracks)
🌊 What’s the hardest thing for you to draw?  I hate feet. I hate drawing feet. It's not hard so much as I just dislike them XD I also am hopeless at straight lines, so swords are a massive pain XD

Ana Tijoux, "Shock" and Vengo
Boris, Heavy Rocks (2011) and "Naki Kyoku"
Cairokee, "Ya Abyad Ya Eswed" and "Kan Lak Ma'aya"
Colapesce Dimartino, "Splash" and "Musica leggerissima"
Diodato, "Fai rumore"
The Dogon Lights, The Dogon Lights
Hanggai, Baifang
If These Trees Could Talk, The Bones of a Dying World
King Crimson, Discipline
Let 3, Two Dogs Fuckin'
Malouma, "Yarab" and "Eden"
Namgar, Nomad
Neil Cicierega, Mouth Moods
School of Seven Bells, Ghostory
Tanxugueiras, "Terra" and "Figa"
Tengger Cavalry, "Homeland Song" and "Under the Welkin"
Tinariwen, Tassili
TV on the Radio, Nine Types of Light
Yat-Kha, "kazhan tören karam bolur" and "Ahoi"
Please please please reblog this and put in the tags your music recommendations. I’m not talking about big artists and bands either— what’s a niche group, band, or artist that you can’t get enough of? What song or album do you enjoy the most? Why?

Oooooooo you’re a metal fan? gimme some recs! I’m doing exams currently and can’t listen to music I know (I end up singing along and getting distracted) so some new tunes/artists to revise to would be wonderful!
alrighty dude, i got you! i really dig folk metal which is perfect for getting shit done, but i'll toss in some variety.
Tengger Cavalry fuckin' great band that mixes mongolian instuments and throat singing with some sick riffs. they do a sick cover of du hast
Tyr most of their songs focus on norse mythology and story telling which is cool way of keeping with oral traditions.
other bands, The HU, Brand of Sacrifice, and (not really metal but good for work) heilung
some songs i dig
the many faces of dr huberto malbec
berzerker
brojob was actually good and they covered WAP

Get to know me
Tagged by @incredifishface! Ty bb! :D
Favourite colors: Green, black, marigold. (Is anyone surprised?) I tend to go for a dark palette and earthy colors. Fave shades of green are forest, emerald, kelly, chartreuse, and dark olive.
Last song I listened to: Faun’s “Federkleid” came on my shuffle on the way home from hanging out with friends to toast the Professor just before I wrote this post yesterday evening so that was cool.
Favourite song: I have no idea how anyone could pick just one song as their favorite ever. This would change with my mood, with the weather, with the phase of the moon. So here are just a handful of some of my top go-to songs for different moods. Could well be different tomorrow.
A song that makes me grin no matter what else is going on: “If the Shoe Fits” by the late, great Leon Russell (and every now and then I’m reminded of how amazing he was omg)
A song that makes me sing along, can’t help it: “Automatonic Electronic Harmonics” by Steam Powered Giraffe
A song that always makes me jump into the pit: tossup between “Happy Little Boozer” by Korpiklaani and “Lai Lai Hei” by Ensiferum
A song that always makes me get a little choked up: tossup between “Witch Image” by Ghost and “The Hangman and the Papist” by the Strawbs
Favourite musicians/artists: Anyone who has been here a while knows my thing about folk metal, so obviously I gotta list Korpiklaani, Arkona, Metsatoll, Tengger Cavalry, Tyr, Eluveitie, Ensiferum, Bathory, Dread Crew of Oddwood, Finntroll, Moonsorrow, and so many more.
And other faves like Type O Negative, Ghost, Sonata Arctica, Amon Amarth, Snow Patrol, Jesse Cook, Parliament Funkadelic, NIN, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Simon & Garfunkel, Gogol Bordello, and Caravan Palace are probably not that surprising.
But then you get into my weird shit like old filk music and Biff Rose...
Last film I watched: On New Year’s Day I made @schaudwen and @allthespaceships watch Tron: Legacy with me. Yeah, I know, whatever. The soundtrack is fantastic, the aesthetic is super cool, and Michael Sheen is a damn shapeshifter.
Favourite TV show watched: I’m going to echo Fishie on this: what, ever??? Yikes.
OTOH, there hasn’t been a show that I’ve really been obsessed with since, uh... Lost, maybe? And I haven’t ever re-watched that, for obvious reasons.
But some shows I’ve really enjoyed in the past include Babylon 5, Tour of Duty, Star Trek: TNG, Avengers: EMH, and the early seasons of Vikings.
Sweet, spicy, or savoury: Spicy! I mean, if I can’t have all three.
Pets: My life isn’t really set up for pets these days; my apartment is small and crammed with stuff, so a dog is right out, and I am not really here enough to justify having any rats or anything. I grew up with a dog and a cat, though, as well as various hamsters, fish, and turtle, and I used to keep rats before I couldn’t take the heartbreak of their short lifespans anymore.
My plan is to soon start volunteering with the local humane society on their wild animal rehab. Everybody else wants to work with the cute rescue kittens or whatever, lemme help the injured crows! That way I can do some good and get to be around critters again.
Tagging @schaudwen, @rynfinity, @seamayweed, @edoraslass, @iamanartichoke, @philosopherking1887, @ablazeandmeandering and anyone else who wants to do it!

Hullo, Are you at all a fan of folk music? If so, which groups or artists would you recommend? Hope you're having a good day
Hallo, friend! I am a really big fan of folk music. There are so many good artists to recommend!
First off, if folk metal is your jam I would say check out: Eluveitie, Tengger Cavalry, Nine Treasures, and Korpiklaani.
If you’re a fan of that sort of American country sounding folk I always enjoy Lost Dog Street Band, Trampled by Turtles, Brown Bird, and Old crow Medicine Show.
Folk Punk: Against Me!, Black Bird Raum, The Mountain Goats(Kinda punky I guess?), and Ramshackle Glory.
And then for that kinda distinct indie folk sound: Fleet Foxes, Gregory Alan Isakov, Daughter, Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and The Lumineers.
Let me know what you think! I hope I’ve put you on to something new. Howls!

1. What’s your middle name?
Avriella.

I don’t really have one? I go through moods and phases, and even then I’m drawn more to individual songs than artists. I have been greatly enjoying Tengger Cavalry the last couple weeks.
