artist archive ; Peter Ondreička (1947 - 1990)
Ondreička was a Slovakian artist, mostly unreported on during his life & sadly ignored after his tragic death. fighting against alcoholism & depression, Ondreička's work is grotesque & and unnerving, but fascinating at the same time.

What happens to the professional archive of an artist of no consequence when they die?! I can’t burden my kids with this stuff? I can’t throw it out?! I need it while I’m still living for reference, so I can’t sell this stuff.

‘Do Not Open’ is still one of my favorite episodes because of this absolute legend. He’s at the top of my list of badass people who survived encounters because they just ain’t with that shit.
An icon.

The beginning: my introduction
˚ ✦ . .   ˚ . . ✦ ˚ . ★⋆. ࿐࿔ .     ˚ * ✦ . . ✦ ˚
I am imagining the future of this space to almost be comparable to a commonplace book, a documentation of sorts, that will be reflective of who I am.
Artistically, that is.
Lately I have been feeling like I'm not taking myself seriously, I'm not actively creating or consuming creative media to the level that truly makes me happy. I want this year to be different. Creating is my reason for living, it is fundamental to my happiness and I need to consciously focus on this to improve my emotional state, and I want to dedicate myself to my own development as a sign of respect and love for myself.
I felt a blog would be the best tool for this, it's something I can actively add to wherever I am and that can be easily shared with other people. It's also a public space (in an online sense) which makes me feel a level of accountability without pressure, which is something I find I need because I tend to stick to a perfectionist mindset in an academic scene.
It's still winter for me, so taking the time to be slow is still important, my goals aren't going to be rigid but they are going to be beneficial to my progress and I am going to aim to complete them all by the end of the year.
I know there is some discourse on the validity of new years resolutions, but to me I think spending some time to focus on yourself in a way that is reflective can be good for you if you're being graceful to yourself. I won't be mad at myself If I don't complete these and you shouldn't be mad at yourself for not completing any resolutions you might make. I also tried to choose ones which would be easily attainable for me to give myself emotional space and decrease the possibility of stressing out.
I want to read or watch at least 35 new pieces of media. Most of my inspiration comes from my favourite pieces of media, both fiction and non fiction. Seeing the world-building and character exploration in Lord of the Rings always strikes a cord and gives me energy to think about my own worlds and stories, Tolkien's work is moving because of the pure unconstrained expression of his inner world. Seeing the mixed media approach to animation in Puella Magi Madoka Magica reminds me to experiment and to reflect on influences like folklore and mythology as tools of communication. The emotional themes of girlhood being explored through ideas of power and hope, without sexual themes or objectification, is truly unmatched for me because it feels like an honest representation of emotion. Being able to understand parts of myself through media is important to me, so I want to dedicate time to explore this part of myself.
I want to analyse and understand why I love the artists I do. There are so many artists who speak to me in a way that I can barely even comprehend and I want to develop the skills to articulate the connections that I feel. I want to try and write at least one post a month about an artist that I like, and explore their influences and their process to see how it can impact my own.
I want to travel a lot. I am in a privileged position at the moment because of my working schedule and living arrangements, which means that I could be travelling and exploring every week. I want to try and go somewhere new at least once a month, whether that's by myself or with other people. Currently a significant amount of my time is spent inside, which as you can imagine is not very good for your mental health.
I want to try lots of new food. This isn't exactly related to art but I think with how current trends are going, that it will be important to discuss food and how good it is. I love food so much, finding new places to eat and new things to try is a big highlight when I'm in another place or even at home. Food has always felt almost religious to me, it's a blessing that I can enjoy so many things from all over the world.
I want to meet more people. I want to create works that are reflective and that people can feel connected to, to do this I need to see all the different types of people that are out there. I'm not sure how this one will go, because I have historically been quite socially anxious but I will try my best to meet and talk to someone new every month.
These little missions should help me develop my creative senses, experiences like this have in the past so I feel that they are like little battery packs for my brain.
This is the end of my first post so I will use this space to say some very important things for you to keep in mind if you are going to interact.
I don't tolerate bigotry. I don't want to follow unnecessary discourse. If you are a proshipper, you are weird, don't interact.
My posts might not always be emotionally appropriate for every age range, however, I will do my best to tag posts for their content.
I will not privately interact with anyone.
Okay bye bye, hope you've all started the new year happy and well :)

“I’m not on tiktok anyway so this does not affect me” no???? it’s not just about tiktok or whether or not you like the app??? it’s about them being able to censor and control what they want and what they don’t want people to see. it’s about them being able to keep people uneducated for the sake of their personal gain and benefits.
(it’s also about small businesses who relied on tiktok to gain customers / income.)
that being said, if the only thing you care about is the platforms you’re on, sorry to break it to you, but if they can ban tiktok, they can go after any other platforms too.
they can go after tumblr, archive of our own, instagram, youtube, facebook, etc, you name it.
it actually does affect you.

Kept thinking about how weak and disorientated Jon gets when cut off from the Eye, which got me thinking about Martin having to help him as his state got worse.
Surprisingly, instead of getting angsty, I ended up with Jon being carried around like a ragdoll.

artist archive ; Arnold Böcklin (1827 - 1901)
Böcklin was born in Switzerland & during his life produced many beautiful paintings of religious events such as Jesus' crucifixion & the birth of Aphrodite, alongside country landscapes & portraits. his painting "self-portrait with death playing the fiddle (1872)" is undeniably his most popular work, but the rest of his collections are just as worthy of attention!
