A sitting area is centered around an Indonesian rattan sofa bed, complemented by a Moroccan bench, a Turkish pouf, and sconces designed by Juan Montoya.

Entrance: In the entrance hall, an Italian church altar dating back to the 17th century serves as a focal point, adorned with Moroccan candlesticks and an antique vase from Indonesia. An Indian mirror, an Indonesian ceramic planter, and a Moroccan carved wooden door and pendant contribute to the eclectic atmosphere. The flooring boasts antique Colombian mosaic tiles, while a 17th-century church pedestal stands as a wooden sculpture.

The staircase banister showcases the intricate handiwork of a local artisan, while the pendant lighting is of Moroccan origin. Adding a touch of cultural flair, the tapestry adorning the space is a suzani from Central Asia.

A sofa bed from Indonesia takes center stage, adorned with batik pillows and an ikat. The accompanying teak bench and cocktail table also hail from Indonesia, while an Art Deco armchair from Colombia adds a distinctive touch. This is Poland, where the art of Indonesian batik has been practiced for over a century.

Maria Wronska-Friend, the anthropologist and museum curator at Australia’s James Cook University says that she first encountered batik in a museum in her native Poland. 

The story that Wronska-Friend tells is remarkable. Polish botanists working for the Dutch in Bogor, West Java, in the late 19th century were surprised to encounter batik textiles, which they said resembled a similar wax-dyeing technique Polish people used to decorate Easter eggs. The samples of Indonesian batik that they brought back to Poland, along with a contemporary Dutch vogue for batik, triggered a creative movement. Batik, as Wronska-Friend says, quickly made the jump from eggshell to cloth in Poland.

 By the 1920s, there were three how-to books about Javanese batik published in Poland. Polish artisans even started to use Javanese-style canting (wax pens), as opposed to their traditional tools. In Cracow between 1913 and 1925, there were workshops, some comprised of teenaged girls, where artisans made batik textiles adopted from patterns almost indistinguishable from those in Indonesia. BATIK CLOTHING.

Batik is a renowned artform that has become incredibly popular in Sri Lanka. This is a way of decorating fabric, which was brought to Sri Lanka over a hundred years ago by the Dutch from Indonesia. However, local artisans have found a way to make this artform their own, and style it to suit the Sri Lankan culture.

I want the clothing of the characters to incorporate these designs.
