Mayebo offers an artistic and critical perspective on the global use of plastic. In recycling plastic waste and turning it into an organism inspiring growth and nature's beauty, Nkembo aims to raise awareness on this pressing issue.

Setting this installation on a water surface insufflates it with more meaning and implication. Indeed, plastic has been considerably responsible for the pollution of oceans. In setting Mayebo in a water element, he draws a direct visual connection between the overuse of plastic and its damaging effect for oceans or any natural body of water. His installation, through such intervention, becomes a real, public and visual statement against global warming and for the protection of the environment.

In this period when humanity has suffered a blow, and when all the signals predict the post-pandemic drowning, this installation happens to be a message of hope and comfort.

Creating art is my life, this is a project very dear to my heart. Fifty artist where selected to participate in the making of this book intervening each of the photographs of endangered species. It’s a beautiful project to protect and support life of this endangered animals that are so unique and beautiful and because of that humans hunt them and now there are very few left. I am so thankful to @villadalex for choosing me to be a part of this initiative :) If I can help the world with my art, if I can use my voice to make this planet a better place for everyone then that’s exactly what I want to do for the rest of my life. When we thought tonintervene the facade of the Museo Alejandro Otero in 2013 for my TROPICO CAMUFLADO solo show, we took on the challenge not only for technical reasons - in order to learn how we could carry on doing interventions in the future- but also and in a very cynical way, for publicity: we needed to get the attention of the press. It was partly sponsored by a private company, but a sale of one the ATC charcoal drawings completed the finance, in a then rapidly changing economy (Venezuela). But the reactions of the people, the museum’s workers and the people living opposite the museum and the passers by, knock down my cynicism Andrade me understood the power that public art can have on people. It was my first intervention and I am yet to make another one (I wish to have again such opportunity). It is still standing. And my parents passed by many many times, and made them quite proud. People’s reaction filled me with a rare sense of joy. And I didn’t do this alone: producer and extremely reliable friend Manuel Sanmartin , image editor Árbol Estudio -Alex Diaz , and a photographer extraordinaire with an extraordinaire bill board camera, expert on streeet art, artist and published author (Manuel please tag him!)
