I’ve rediscovered an old favourite band of mine and I have an urge to redraw a piece of fanart I’ve drawn them 9 years ago. But then my mind started thinking about how it would be contacting them again: ‘Hi, guys you may remember me or not but surprise I was a huge fan back in the day and now I’m trans! Btw here’s an updated version of the old fanart!’ It sounds silly and I am not sure how they’ll take it but I didn’t get queerphobic vibes from them then so I don’t think I’ll get it now.

WIP List of DOOM

So @ilral tagged me in a thing about my WIPs so...here goes! The rules:

List all the things you’re currently working on in as much or little detail as you’d like, then tag some friends to see what they’re working on. This can be writing, art, vids, gifsets, whatever.

So, listen. I have...a LOT of WIPs, okay? A lot. Like, I just counted my writing WIPs and there are 20 files in my WIP folder, not counting things that have already been posted to tumblr but not put on AO3. So I can’t talk about ALL of them or we’ll be here forever. Instead, I’ll just talk a little about the ones I’ve been working on most recently, and I’ll dump the filenames of the other ones at the end. If anyone is curious about one of those, send me an ask and I’ll talk more about it!

[Title redacted]: First of all, I have one WIP that I can’t talk about in detail because it’s for the Every Woman exchange, and as such is secret until authors are revealed. But I will say it involves a few characters I really enjoy, and I’m excited about how it’s going! (Wish me luck, it’s due on Friday).

The Language of Florists: This one already has three chapters up on AO3, so if you haven’t read it yet, you can! For those who aren’t familiar with it, this is a Stand Still Stay Silent Flower Shop AU. Lalli is a florist, and Emil is a guy who came into the shop looking for a bouquet that would say “fuck you” - and found romance instead. ;) Chapter four is actually finished, but I haven’t posted it yet because I’m doing an illustration to go with it (all of the previous chapters have had them) and that isn’t finished yet. I also have an epilogue in the works, but I’m not sure it’s really necessary? I guess I’ll see if people want it after I’ve posted the last chapter.

Inevitable Kitten Thing: This...will not be the final title, haha! This is a Yuri!!! on Ice fic, set in an alternate universe where Otabek and Yuri are not skaters, but live in the same apartment building. When Otabek finds some orphaned kittens in the bushes, he and Yuri end up forming a friendship that quickly becomes something more. This one...is probably going to need multiple chapters, and I haven’t quite worked out the end yet, so I won’t post any of it until I know how it’s going to end. (And not until Language of Florists is done).

Oona and Puppy Fox: Also not the final title, but it’s basically what it says on the tin - a fic about Oona Kuikka encountering Puppy Fox. The first half is set when Oona is a child, and she finds a new friend in the woods. The second half is actually an aRTD/SSSS crossover, when Oona is an adult working as a scout...and finds a total nuisance in the woods. Magic, friendship, and rolled-up newspapers - what more does a fic need?

Before It Was Cool Chapter 10: Okay, I haven’t been working on this much recently, but it’s been sitting guiltily in my WIP folder for a long time. The second-to-last (hopefully) chapter of my SSSS Hipster Band AU. Or, as I like to call it “the chapter I CANNOT SEEM TO WRITE”. I know what should happen, mostly, and how it should end, but for some reason the middle bit is giving me trouble. Also, it has a heaping dose of angst, which is necessary for the plot but sooo hard to write.

Other things: I also have some art I’m working on to send out with postcards, a portrait commission for my aunt, and a crocheted blanket made of little blocks with the SSSS logo that will hopefully be finished someday. (I figured out how to make plain blocks in the same size to go in between, so maybe those will go faster). Oh, and, uh, I have a novel that I finished a draft of but haven’t touched for over a year. *guilty glance* And an original short story that needs some editing.

And in case this wasn’t enough rambling about my WIPs, this is the list of the other files in my WIP writing folder. So if anyone wants to know more about one, send an ask and I’ll give you a description and maybe a few lines from it. ;)

Have you ever thought how they could look like, if Hannu and Ville would be girls? (and the others?) can you write a short description how you imagine them if you had? or has anyone done art of them before?

Hi, nonny! Yeah, I’ve thought about an always-a-girl AU for aRTD before. :D If you have ideas about it, I’d love to hear it.

I don’t think anyone has done art of this AU though (which is bad, because I’ve seen similar things for SSSS and that was neat.)

Generally with this kind of AU I imagine everyone looking almost the same, except, y’know, for the obvious anatomical difference. And this is especially for someone like Hannu, who to me looks kind of ambiguous already. He’d look very similar as a woman to the way he looks as a man - maybe a bit softer in the face, but that’s it. She’d be one of the grumpiest, most sour-faced women anyone has ever met.

Ditto for Joona, in that I imagine her mostly the same; a tall, scrawny woman. Keep the metalhead hair, leave off the beard, and there you go. I like to think that Joona would be a little bit shorter as a woman - because that would mean she would look even more like Jonna than canon-Jonna does, and people would probably mix them up a lot, even with the hair as an identifier. (They probably find this hilarious.)

Anssi is one that I’d find interesting as a woman, because if she looked mostly the same as her male counterpart, then she’d be pretty butch. It’s a visual character type that I don’t often see in fiction, so that’s neat. Actually I confess, I picture gal-Anssi looking a bit like k d lang.

The only one that I have difficulty imagining as a woman is human!Ville. I’ve tried to think of this version before, but it’s hard to actually picture her. Except for the obvious - round and soft and cute; a bit like Riikka in body type, except, well, bigger. Very sweet-faced, of course. Maybe she would eventually grow her hair longer than canon-Ville has it, so she could wear it in pretty braids.

Pre-Collaboration Reflection: Part 2

What do you anticipate will be your biggest challenges with collaboration this semester? What strategies do you think you might try?

I think the hardest part of this class and our collaborations within it, will be narrowing down our ideas into workable pieces. We have a great team of creative and eager minds, which is awesome! But one thing I found challenging on Thursday, was how easy it was for one initial idea to expand into like five different ideas going in slightly opposing directions. All of our ideas stemming from the original idea were good, and all possible if we had fully committed to them, but often not all were viable at the same time or for the same event. I think that our inability to decide concretely on an event space/time kept our collaboration trapped in the brainstorming phase, and prohibited us from better being able to fully refine an objective for the event. My group was focusing on what could done for the next pop up event in a short time frame, and in retrospect I think we spent more of our discussion thinking about the when/where component and not enough on the specific goals and objectives for the event itself. Without narrowing down what we were aiming to get out of the event, the spectrum of ideas ended up feeling general at best when we were trying to summarize and explain our loose plan to the class. Moving forward, I think it may be helpful for event planning to prioritize deciding one aspect first and then molding the rest around that initial decision. This way we can stick to either one clear event objective, and then figure out what location and timeframe will best aid that particular goal/idea, or start with the location and timeline, and think of what goals make productive sense when carried out in those parameters.

Are there structures that you have encountered in previous contexts that you think could be useful for our class to use?

I don’t know if I have worked in this particular collaborative structure before, as in one with this much range- obviously we have the common overall goal of getting people out voting in the midterm elections, increasing voter confidence (and excitement!), and of course the 90% challenge- but we have a lot of freedom as to how we can try to accomplish those goals. In the past I have worked collaboratively on smaller one-time projects. Freedom is good, but it can be daunting! I think I’ve experienced collaborative groups this size deciding things with votes, which could be interesting for us to try- and right in line with the action we’re aiming to encourage with Voting is Sexy!
