I bet you do.” Sam rolled his eyes, turning to Nat. “Stop being a dick, I just keep up with the ongoing investigation. I’m not, like, obsessed or something.” “Oh, you’re definitely obsessed, don’t even try to front here, Wilson.” Sam wouldn’t say he was obsessed. He just found the White Wolf fascinating. No one even had an idea about who the White Wolf was. Nationality, gender, reasoning; no one had a clue and leads ran dry almost immediately on the cases. Sam had a few theories on why the White Wolf did the things that they did, but the theories weren’t conclusive, mostly speculation.

FIC REC WEEK 43 – ENEMIES TO LOVERS

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: imposterhuman

I pretty much love all of the ideas and AUs that imposterhuman comes up with for these boys, they're so much fun! Especially the ones where they are clearly rivals, which is why I chose to rec them here. The characterizations are spot on, and I really love the dialogue – imposterhuman writes fantastic sassy banter.

Pairing: Bucky/Tony Rating: G Words: 2,179 Tags: No Powers AU, Firefighter Bucky, Detective Tony

Summary: Bucky and Tony weren’t dating, because a firefighter and a detective couldn’t date (never mind that Tony hadn’t slept with anyone else since their thing had started, and he and Bucky hung out with an alarming frequency, and the whole precinct thought that they were an item). It didn't matter how many nights they spent together, how Bucky had a drawer of Tony's things and vice versa, they just couldn't. It was a classic Romeo and Juliet situation, if Romeo and Juliet actively disliked each other on top of everything.

Reasons why I love it: Aw, look at our idiots in love, they're adorable. The dialogue in this is hilarious, and I really enjoyed the rivalry between the different departments. And of course, it takes a kick in the ass for Bucky and Tony to finally admit how they're feeling. I love it, and I bet you will too!

Summary: “I’m not sleeping with a criminal,” Bucky said sternly, trying to pretend like his resolve wasn’t wavering. “C’mon, baby,” Tony purred, raking a nail down his chest. “You’ve got nothing on me. Innocent until proven guilty, right? Technically, I’m not a criminal.” Bucky raised an eyebrow. “You’ve stolen billions of dollars worth of artwork.” “Allegedly,” Tony shrugged artfully. “Everyone needs a hobby."

Reasons why I love it: Oooh, Bucky, my man, you're in danger. Tony is sexy as hell as an untouchable art thief, Bucky doesn't stand a chance at resisting him. I love the UST in their dialogue, and the entire setting just makes me want to read a whole novel about this verse. It's amazing, and I really hope you give it a shot for yourself!

Summary: “You sound uncertain,” Bucky said. “Maybe you should give up. In fact-” he dug in his pocket for a moment, producing a piece of white cloth that he thrust at Tony. “Here.” “Ew, Barnes,” Pepper wrinkled her nose. “No one but Tony wants to see your dirty underwear.” He barely spared her a glance, intense gaze focused on Tony. “It’s a white flag, and you better start waving it now, doll.” “Does he just… carry that around?” Rhodey asked quietly. “Like, all the time?” “Probably,” Bruce said placidly. “He does seem like the type.” Tony ignored them and pushed Bucky’s white flag back at him. “The only thing that I will be waving is your decapitated head on a stick in front of your weeping mother!”

Reasons why I love it: Tony is such a little shit, I love it! And I bet Bucky loves it too, that little faker. I would read a million more words in this verse, as is the case for pretty much all of these, really. This fic is fantastic, and I hope you go and check it out for yourself!

Pairing: Bucky/Tony Rating: T Words: 4,295 Tags: Pirates, One Night Stands, Pining

Summary: If Bucky Barnes didn’t stop chasing him across the seven seas, Tony was going to have to do something drastic, probably involving cannons, illegal activity, and a shit ton of rum. “You need to sort out your relationship with Barnes,” Rhodey scolded. “He’s chasing you like a scorned lover.” “Scorned?” Tony scoffed, shaking his head. “I was perfectly courteous the morning after. It was a mutual decision to not see each other again, seeing as he’s supposed to arrest me on sight.” “You left before he woke up, didn’t leave a note, and stole something valuable, didn’t you?” Rhodey looked to the sky like he was praying for strength. “Tony, if we get arrested because you had a one-night stand with the commodore’s first mate, I will send you to the gallows myself.”

Reasons why I love it: I grew up with Pirates of the Carribean, so this fic was like catnip to me. The reference are perfect, I love the banter between Tony's crew, and of course, the Winteriron is magnificent. I adore this fic, and I bet you will too, so I hope you'll check it out!

Summary: Tony was going to kill Bucky Barnes. Tony was going to cut the other thief’s flesh arm off and beat him with it. It was bad enough that they were both running jobs in the same building, but they had to be going for the same necklace, too. Really, the universe hated Tony. He stared at the ceiling, sending up a very nasty prayer in case someone was listening, then turned back to the job at hand.

Reasons why I love it: I really enjoyed the back-and-forth in this one. They're clearly both equally skilled, and the power play that comes with that is just delicious. I love this one, and I bet you will too, so you should definitely read it!

Valkyrie and Bruce think Loki has bad intentions and that Thor needs to be rescued from Loki.

Incidentally, Loki's heart is increasingly a giant soft spot for his doting little!big brother.

I don't generally do a big write up when I post art, but this needs some explanation. This was inspired by this post which tl;dr is about a dream where Bucky Barnes (Marvel) is looking for Wen Ning (Mo Dao Zu Shi).

Bucky was originally in the drawing, but his sad scowl was ruining the overall peacefulness of Wen Ning and his tiny cows (which in the dream were jersey cows, I did not make them so in the drawing, but I may change that)

The characters on Wen Ning's robe under the Lan clouds should read 'Gusu Greenhouse'. I took the 'Gusu' characters from the novelization and the 'greenhouse' from google translate. I had originally written in in English, but felt that was wrong. I realized once I had written them that usually Chinese is read top to bottom and I have written them left to right, hopefully they are at least written correctly. Apologies if you are a native speaker and they are not.

I think the concept of the miniature but very real landscape was borrowed from Lu Tzu in Terry' Pratchett's "Thief of Time", he has 'bonsai' mountains. No tiny cows, but perhaps someday.

I think basically the setting for this is contemporary, Wen Ning is functionally immortal, if Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji dual cultivate their way to immortality, then I can imagine them still in Gusu, with Wen Ning and Wen Ning is growing specialty herbs and other cultivational wonders. :)

Oooh, so this one has been a long time coming. I've had a draft of this for literal years and I know people keep asking about it, but I actually pulled it out to edit and work on it for a request by @ninesdb for a charity thing. It's going to come out soon after some beta work is done on it. But yeah, it's what it says on the tin - Private Investigator Sam Wilson who deals mostly with art theft finds himself on a case where he's in search of the infamous art thief the White Wolf. Here's a little snippet from the fic:

“Didn’t plan for this winter, huh?” asked Sam, because Sam was slowly transforming into his mother, just talking to random people in line.

The man turned, and there was something gripping about his eyes. Not just because they were a color that stood out, this color that reminded Sam of the ice grotto in Mer de Glace when Riley had convinced him that Chamonix, France was worth a visit when they decided to go on vacation across Europe.

Before.

Well.

His death.

What stood out was the sheer surprise, like no one ever talked to him before. Or maybe he was just shy. It would be Sam’s luck to try to chat up the shyest guy in the line, like some strange worse sequel to Flight of the Concord’s ‘The Most Beautiful Girl in the Room’.

The Most Shyest Guy in the Line.

“Um. What?” asked the guy, his voice… god, why was his voice like smooth whiskey?

There was an intense disconnect with his height, his voice, his entire look and his personality and none of this should be working for Sam.

And it was ridiculous.

Sam was a mess right now.

He wasn’t in a headspace to even think about someone else.

Stop that, Sam.

Work on yourself before jumping the first cute person you see in a line.

“You’re shivering. You definitely didn’t dress properly for the weather,” said Sam, because his brain and his mouth weren’t collaborating anymore, “New to town or tourist?”

The man shrugged stiff from the cold, a small smile on his face as he looked away, and oh, wait, no, maybe the shrug wasn’t stiff, it was the left arm, the man doing his best to hide it. And Sam knew the signs of someone worried about people being uncomfortable about a missing limb.

An intense amputation, from what Sam could tell, since doctors usually tried to save legs and arms below elbows and knees to give a person the best quality of life possible yet it looked like it was probably the entire shoulder down.

Sam would tell him it was okay. He knew people with missing limbs. One wouldn’t make Sam uncomfortable.

But.

Bringing attention to it might scare him off. Would probably be rude. Sam decided to only bring it up if the man brought it up first.

“I don’t know. I suppose I’m visiting for a bit,” said the man, hand shoved farther into his leather jacket, “I’m a grad student. Art history. I was actually here to study the Wakanda exhibit that the British Museum loaned to the National Gallery. I sort of specialize in jewelry, clothing, and weavings, so I was hoping to see the Damisa-Sarki Habit.”

Sam frowned, trying to remember if he saw that in the exhibit (Sam didn’t remember seeing anything marked “Damisa-Sarki Habit”), though, it wasn’t as if he saw the entire exhibit, and Sam knew the only thing that was stolen (since the White Wolf generally only took one specific item every time) was the Panther Necklace. Sam knew he probably shouldn’t say anything, but didn’t want the guy to waste his money on a ticket.

“The entire Wakandan exhibit is closed right now, actually. You’d find this out if you walk in anyways, but, um… there was an incident last night and they had to shut down the entire area.”

“Really?” said the man, blinking, “I guess I rode all the way from Brooklyn for nothing.”

“Rode?” echoed Sam, like an extremely smart person.

The guy smiled a bit bigger, letting out a little laugh, making eye contact with those goddamn intense eyes as he said, “I own a motorcycle.”

No, Sam.

You do not find him driving a motorcycle attractive.

That attractive.

Fuck.

Wait.

“Why weren’t you ready for winter if you’re from New York?” asked Sam, confused.

The man shrugged.

“I’m not usually in New York,” explained the man, “I go to grad school elsewhere. But I was visiting someone and they’re taking care of my motorcycle at the moment. I sort of decided to come here impromptu this morning since the person I was visiting was busy today.”

Sam tried not to show his disappointment. Because of course he was visiting someone. Had someone, probably. Some girlfriend or boyfriend or someone. Someone he trusted enough to do upkeep on his motorcycle. And Sam and this man had just met, like, five seconds ago. It made no sense for Sam to feel this heartbroken.

“Sorry you wasted your time,” said Sam, genuinely apologetic.

That was over a three-hour drive by car.

“I think the exhibit’s going to be here for another few months,” continued Sam, “So, maybe you can catch it another day?”

“Yeah. I could do that. And I don’t think I wasted my time,” said the man, much more suave than he started out, “I got to meet you, after all. I’m Bucky, by the way.”

“Sam,” said Sam, a little too quick, probably because Sam was definitely too much of a mess to be doing something like this, “Sam. I’m Sam. Nice to meet you, Bucky. It’s Bucky, right? I think I’ve only heard of one other Bucky before.”

There was something warm about Bucky’s eyes as he stepped towards the barista, saying, “Nice to meet you, too. What about I buy you your coffee?”

Meanwhile, Bucky is living the life of luxury. Courtesy of his best friend's dating app, Bucky found success in pleasing rich, and much older, men. He missed focusing on his actual career but earning a fat tip was better than chasing after dead-end modeling gigs. He'll occasionally receive strange messages, however, tonight's stuck out from the rest.

The text is a little risque, and friendly, but neither of those things holds Bucky's attention for long. The profile had been created less than an hour ago, yet that doesn't deter Bucky from scouring through it like an encyclopedia. It had to be a catfish. Why else would a famous fashion designer sign up for a publicly accessible app? And why is Bucky's brain screaming at him to send a message back?

This may be the biggest mistake of Bucky's life, or possibly the best client he's ever had.
