Mr. Horvath settles onto the couch beside her, ignoring her as he straightens a red thread between his hands. A silver medallion dangles from the end as he wraps it around the cane, threading it methodically around one of the points of the five-pointed star in the middle. Becky can only watch, pulse pounding in her ears. He ties off the red thread before rising, making the couch cushion shift underneath her. "I do believe Dave and Balthazar are on their way up. Shall we see how valuable you are to him?" Balthazar? Dave's been acting weirder and weirder for days- trying to get her out of the lab even after he'd invited her there, trying to keep her away from his uncle, acting so strange when she'd showed up last night- He's not his uncle. He's bringing Dave up to kill him.
