DAY 3 (4?) !!! OF ANALYSING PRIDE FLAGS::: GENDERFLUID !!

Okayyy !!! soooo... might have missed a day (and almost two),,, sorry qwqq--- been busy with stuff and got wayy too tired yesterday--- buttt--- Back today !!!

I might start explaining some of the identities behind the flags I analyse !! hehe,,, @arrowmoose suggested it and I think it'd be a coool idea Genderfluidity: Somebody without a fixed gender identity, that varies or changes over time !!! This shift may happen between days, or months, or even years !!

Anywayss,,, now, The Flag:

The Genderfluid flag is super interesting !!! With Five Stripes, like a lotta identity flags, it's special in how it doesn't have an underlying pattern like soo many others (It's not mirrored from the centre like trans, mlm/wlw, etc.- And it's not a gradient of lighter > darker colours, either) In fact !! when first lookng at it, it looks pretty confusing hehe, so I really struggled with this one haha--- However !! I think I like it !! It's definitely distinctive, and-- really strangely, the colours do work together as a whole !! (though sorta clash their neighbours) even if their positioning feels weird at first. However, unlike the last two flags we've looked at,, it doesn't have the same sense of recognisability ?? that's partly due to the much smaller genderfluid community, but also partially due to the flag's makeup--- And it's lack of symbolism ?? it's a lil hard to see what the flag means without looking it up haha-- Though,, it feels bad to say that cos there's sooooo much I love about this flag. as i've clearly shown before, I lovvvve the more complicated flags,, and this is one of them !! hehe.

Idkkk, those are just my thoughts !!!! Tell me urs !! I know that the genderfluid flag is a lil controversial in it's aesthetics hahaa

Dark. Not super dark, kind of just dusky? So I can just barely see around me

A corkboard on the wall in front of me, a notebook and some scrap paper, and a few pens

My computer to type on in case I don't feel like handwriting

Water for drinking and also coffee

“Not so fast. Few more questions for you.” Hudson reaches under the table. Drops a switchblade in front of him, black and sleek. Slides it towards Java and asks, “You ever stabbed someone?”

“What?” It comes out high-pitched, almost a yelp. “No. Why? Is that—have you?”

Hudson’s responding smile is sharp and intimidating, like a hungry jackal. “Some things call for … intervention. Look at this as a sort of precaution, and I am not saying you should expect things to turn violent, but they can and do, and you will want to be prepared.”

OC Lore Excerpt

I got the brilliant idea for this short excerpt after listening to one of my favorite songs.

This excerpt is a piece of Aito’s lore, where he lost someone he loved dearly due to his lack of acceptance for himself.

Edit note: This specific excerpt is set in 19th century England (Aito is hundreds of years old) (that’s a whole other piece of lore but whatever)

WARNING: THIS EXCERPT CONTAINS SEXUAL THEMES.

“Do you love me?”

It was morning, and the sun peeked through the drawn curtains onto his tanned face and reflected in his eyes, making them shine like a swirled caramel. I sat on the edge of the bed, in my nude, and he laid behind me with his cheek propped on his hand and the sheets covering his lower body.

I looked at him, a mild visage of bewilderment on my face. I gave a scoff as I stood and grabbed my shirt off the nearby chair. “I just had sex with you. Why wouldn’t I?”

I felt his fingers trace down my spine and stop above my rear, then he placed his hand on my lower back. I shivered as I began buttoning my white shirt.

“I don’t know. You just felt…distant the whole time,” he said softly. He tugged at the back of my shirt, and I turned to face him after I picked up my tie.

“How so?” I asked, looking down at him as I straightened the black tie around my neck. 

He slipped the covers off himself and sat off the edge of the bed in front of me. My eyes traced his figure as he looked up. He ran his hands up the sides of my thighs and stopped at my hips, massaging them. “You just looked…apathetic the whole time. As if you weren’t enjoying it.” His eyes would flit up my body, and I inhaled sharply as he ran his hands down my front. I swallowed hard and slipped my trembling fingers into his messy black hair, although gingerly.

His hands rested on the backs of my thighs as he looked up at me again, a faint, pained expression on his face. His hands dropped and clasped in his lap as he pressed his forehead into my stomach. “That. You’re hesitant. Why?”

I stared down at him, then dropped my hands as well. I felt a vise grip my chest, and I opened my mouth to speak, then closed it. After a moment, he raised his head and eyed at me expectantly. I exhaled deeply and closed my eyes. “I…I don’t know.”

I did know. But I hated that I knew. I knew it was because I still couldn’t fully approve of all the love I wanted to give.

I opened my eyes, and his expression was one of unconvinced hurt.

Gently, he placed his hands on my hips and pushed me a step back. He stood and tilted his head up at me, his voice breaking. “You hurt me so. You can’t even say you love me back.”

My breath hitched in my throat, and I stared at him silently. I felt my eyes begin to sting and gloss over.

“Cry for me,” he challenged, although it came out more as a quiet, choked beg.

I blinked away my tears.

Preface: My two main characters are based equally on myself. I’m bipolar so I often feel like there are two of me always fighting for dominance so it was easy take those parts and isolate them into two separate people. Maybe there’s something symbolic about the two parts of me falling in love but that’s just speculation on my part.

Cricket St. James

Cricket is about 50% Me. She’s the side of me that is pessimistic and deeply angry at the world.

Her first name is from a list of baby names I created when I was 14. I figured she should have a name that would make my inner child happy. I also think it sounds really nice and one of the people I create has to be named Cricket. I thought I’d save my actual future children the trouble of having such a strange name. I knew I wanted her surname to be Saint something because she’s such a malcontent and I liked the juxtaposition.

(I personally think her name fucks so hard and I hope yall agree)

March Starling

March is the other 50% of me. He’s the side of me that is optimistic and full of love to give.

His name is from a names list I made when I was 18 (yes I make a list of names every year. I have to because I’m delusional) March is my brain child and I wanted to give all of my characters names I would give my hypothetical children. March just sounded nice. His surname is Starling because it sounds like the name of someone who is successful and possibly has or comes from money.

(His brothers are called Reese and Dorian because I love the books in the Sarah J. Mass universe. The names also kind of fit well together in my brain. Also they’re triplets because I went through a phase where I was obsessed with these YouTubers called the Sturniolo triplets)

Harlow Knight

Harlow is based on my best friend because she’s a silly little goof. Some of the conversations in the book are real conversations we’ve had.

Her name is from a list I made when I was 20. It’s also the name of a character in a book series I was reading at the time so I was partial to it. Knight just sounded dope as fuck. Maybe as the story progresses she’ll be heroic, strong, or knightly in some way like a self for filling prophecy.

(Side note: she has red hair because people named Harlow are by law required to be ginger)

Jude Fox

Jude is based HEAVILY on my ex. This was 100% by accident and when I noticed I decided to lean into it and make them into damn near a carbon copy of him.

Their name is from a list I made this year while I’m 23. Since they’re the antagonist I wanted to name them Judas without literally naming them Judas. Fox is to symbolize how they’re a sneaky trickster. It also happens to be another name on my 2024 list.

(I chose the name before I created them into my ex-boyfriend I promise you I wasn’t initially trying to be so petty)
