Film: 4/10. This was tracking to be rated higher because the lead does a nice job portraying his character, but at even a relatively slim 1h34min, this film simply did not need to be this long.

It probably would have made an excellent episode of TV with shades of The Twilight Zone, Source Code (2012), and season 2's 'I Only Have Eyes For You' (BtVS). But I had to take points off between an early telegraphed and uncomplicated plot and a fairly rushed third act that followed a more enjoyable, but meandering first two.

(It also [SPOILERS:] telegraphs the ending by having Sam be so high in the billing relative to his character's screen time. There's at least one other film in his oeuvre that's marked out the same way. :/ Ending spoiled by film savvy.)

Sam?: Sam! REALLY cute hair. Not too far off spec in length from his Lestat hair, which really does suit him well, but appears to be his natural coloring. The initial styling made it look like he had pigtails, which was cute, but definitely a Choice.

Sam's acting is, as always, high callibre. But....

Accent work: In the second of two films I've watched recently of Sam's where most/all of the characters have an American accent, but where their actors are Australia, somehow the accent work here is worse overall.

The lead actor did a decent job of keeping a consistent American accent. The lead actress was decent. Sam... was not.

In his initial few scenes, his accent is quite literally all over the map. It starts American, slips into English a couple of times around the vowels, slips into Australian on different vowels, and istg, at one point there was an early sneak peak into his French accent. After about the mid-way point, he mostly stabilizes into generic American but slips a bit in the last sequence.

Between this and Inhuman Resources that featured the same, but less noticeable, issues around American accents, I'm starting to think that this is just a persistent problem with him.

Would I watch it again?: Yes, definitely. I'm actually planning on getting it on DVD. But definitely not to watch the whole film.
