Whe asked to think of an essential oil to use to help relax, many people will jump right to that little purple bottle of lavender (Lavendula Angistifolia). Few people realize that Cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana) essential oil actually possesses similar sedative properties. Cedarwood essential oil is well credited for its sweet earthy aroma and has been used in many musk style perfumes and Colognes for this reason. What many people don’t know about this versatile oil is that in its pure form, Cedarwood Essential oil is comprised mostly of 2 chemical families called Sesquiterpenes and Sequiterpenols. Like all chemicals our body responds to each of these in different ways. The sequiterpene (a-Cedrene) found in cedarwood has been tested for its antispasmodic properties as well as astringent properties. Likewise the Sequiterpenol (Cedrol) has been shown to have Central Nervous System (CNS) sedative (calming) properties as well as has shown activity against Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Bacteria making (Antibacterial properties). Perfect read on...What are essential oils? 🌿💧 Basically essential oils are the lifeblood of the plant. They help the plant to regulate itself, add wellness and protect itself. Essential oils are highly concentrated and contain hundreds of chemical compounds that are extracted through careful steam distillation, resin tapping and cold pressing. They've been used for thousands of years (this is not some new fad guys!) for their numerous wellness properties. There are three ways to use essential oils. 🌿First is aromatically, which would be diffusing the oils, smelling from the bottle or rubbing a drop between your hands and breathing deeply. 🌿The second way is topically.
