Jokes aside, this is an interesting detail to drop given that Arnold has taken an interest in Anya. Especially when you also look at Melinda's interests in occultism combined with Arnold's little lore drop about his father being the popular fortune teller from the school festival.

Compared to Arnold, Damian is pragmatic to the point of being a bit of a jerk. Hell, Anya's sass about Arnold watching too many cartoons was originally a line Damian threw at HER in regards to her powers.

So it'll be interesting to see how dynamics all play out moving forward between the kids. Especially now that it's clear Arnold is going to be a more permanent fixture in Anya's life, and HE seems to be set up to be much more inclined to believe her powers are genuine than Damian is.

Classical language and paranormal powers : Anya Forger and Arnold Crowley

Crack theory that I haven't seen anywhere, but I can't get it out of my head since ch95, so here goes.

We've had enough clues across the story so far to understand that there is a link between Anya's past and telepathic powers and her mastering classical language (which is not spoken anymore nowadays, according to Twilight), which recently earned her a stella :

While the nature of the link is still unclear, I can't help but question if Sensei hid other clues about this topic.

More specifically, Anya scored second, a big victory for her, but we eventually even met the kid who scored slightly better than she did in ch 95:

Moreover, he seemed particularly interested in Anya and wanted to meet her, before the dance party gave him the chance to.

Of course, it can be purely mundane kid behavior or just a comical way to annoy Damian, but still, I couldn't help but notice that mainly he, like Anya, has weirdly shaped pointed hair.

Might I even add, he has 3 horns/antennas, while Anya only has 2 (is it why he scored better ?). That's one similarity to two kids scoring well in classical language. Could be coincidental, I hear you.

Even more recently though, Anya and Yor encountered Melinda at a festival, when trying to get a fortune telling for Anya. Melinda shyly explained to Yor that it's a hobby of hers and that she believes in destiny and paranormal activities & powers, like telepathy :

However, Melinda is not super confident in her reading abilities, which is why she's not charging any money for it. But did you notice the name of another fortune teller who seems very accurate and popular, in ch107 ?

That's right : Magical * Crowley

Of course, at this point we don't know at all whether or not Arnold from ch95 is related to this fortune teller. However, I kinda doubt Sensei would mistakenly give the same name to the weird boy who beat Anya in classical language and to a popular fortune teller, when someone like Melinda, of all people, hardcores believes paranormal forces and powers are real.

Melinda who, by the way, is extremely scared of her husband who may have undergone surgery to get telepathic powers at some point.

Last but not least, we also know that fortune telling is likely to be a real thing in this universe, meaning Magical * Crowley's could have actual powers, considering Anya's family already owns a dog, Bond, who can see the future.

TL;DR Arnold Crowley from ch95 may be a kid with a strange power, like Anya is.

What this has to do with them being good at classical language, which is not used anymore nowadays, I don't know**, but I'd bet a few pennies it's going to be plot relevant.

**EDIT : To specify on what I currently imagine, since Anya's powers disappear during the new moon, maybe her powers depend on some kind of emitting/transmitting wavelengths (received by her hair horns/antennas), that could be coded with classical language (since it's not spoken anymore) ? It is a spy manga after all. x)

And if I were Endo-sensei, I'd take it a step further and reveal that she was actually hearing/reading all along people's thoughts in classical language, because that's how her powers were coded. She just doesn't realize it, because she's 4 years old, which is why most of her mistakes during classical language tests were spelling ones.

I was scrolling through Twitter/X, laughing and giggling at the cute DamiAnya and Loid tweets from the recent chapter 95, when I stumbled on a tweet about Arnold Crowley.

Btw, Arnold is one of the character I'm looking forwad meeting the most because he's the top scorer in the classical language test. His score must be 90 or above, which is kinda insane when we know classical language is a dead language and barely taught anymore. I previously made a theory that the reason why Anya is so good at classical language is because she came from Covenia, the equivalent of Romania irl; which language derived from Latin language. That's why I was intrigued with Arnold Crowley; I want to know how is he able to beat Anya's score. Like, did he come from the same place as Anya, or, does his family have a medical/researcher background; stuffs like that

Anyway, back to the tweet. Some people are weirded out with Arnold Crowley's hairstyle, which is not surprising, because me too.

I clicked the comments when I saw this.

What. The Fuck. Is That.

The hair/hat reference! The same last name!

Suddenly everything about Arnold clicked. Why I feel weirded out not just from his hairstyle, but also from his bow tie (which reminds me of a moth's wing pattern). Why his polite demeanor is lowkey making me uneasy. Why he is so interested to meet the runner-up of his strong subject. Why he is so good at classical language.

I was scared. I am scared.

But I was still excited to learn that Crowley was a real person, so I googled him just to make sure.

Oh FFUCK.

Dear God what did I discover.

Arnold Crowley or his parents might be based on Aleister Crowley.

Aleister Crowley is an occultist.

He practiced spells.

Spells often comes from Latin words.

He is also a poet.

A poet also often uses Latin language.

Do you see what I'm seeing here.

Summary:

Arnold Crowley or his parents might be an occultist or poet; that's how he's able to be excelled in classical language.

If Arnold's family is a poet, then thank God.

If Arnold's family is an occultist, I am really scared for Anya. What if he wants to learn if Anya is a fellow occultist like him. What if he wants to invite Anya to join his cult. What if he finds out about Anya's telepathic ability. What if he somehow trigger Anya's bad memories with his magic skills(?). I really want Anya to get tf away from him now.

And here I was so excited with Arnold's appereance, I even joked he'd become Anya's new classmate or even the 2nd ML, lol. But now? I'm really not sure. I better keep an eye on him from now on.

A part of me thought that Anya would stay in the same classes as Becky, Damian and his two bff. I'm not sure I see why Endo wanted them separate, what do you think ?

Hi ! Ah, I see your point Anon and I'm saddened by it a bit too, but I think it makes sense !

First of all, within the narrative, it may serve as a goal for Anya herself.

Besides world peace (aka trying to help Twilight because she loves him and is afraid "to be returned back"), Anya doesn't have any real goal to study. Don't get me wrong, that's natural since she's like 4 years old, but being separated from her friends may help her find motivation to get better grades, simply to be in the same classes as them again. :))

It might also help Anya recognize how much she came to care for all of them as friends, beyond Becky.

I mean, getting close to Damian was primarily seen by her to be helpful for World Peace. However, I'd say it's definitely gone beyond that, because she truly became friends with him, just like it's evident she trusts him a lot, otherwise she wouldn't have told him about her powers.

In turn, Anya getting friendly with other kids (read : other boys) will also probably help Damian realize that he's friends with her, too. Obviously they're young kids, so their cute dynamic full of banters is probably not going to change soon, but inwardly they're probably going to be more honest with themselves, which is a good thing ! :D

Secondly and most importantly, I think this change of classrooms is very important for the plot. Beyond Damian Desmond, Twilight had Anya enrolled at Eden Academy because...

...many students have very powerful parents who reunite there. Donovan Desmond on his own is not a real threat, the war he seems to be planning according to WISE is, but he definitely cannot plan a war alone, even with mind reading powers.

So the more kids Anya meet, the more we get hints as to who their parents are and how they might be involved with Donovan Desmond or a war project. Here are some posts explaining some previous examples we had so far, like Becky and George and ch95 overall.

Just in ch112.1, we met Prince Tertius who comes from another country besides Ostania and Westalis, which not only broadens the universe's world building, but might also expand on geopolitics and the consequences of the previous wars on additional countries.

Finally, Arnold Crowley, who's also back (see here for more details about why I think he's plot relevant for now), mentioned that it's not rare for "foreign dignitaries to study at Eden".

In general, I find Eden Academy is a shady institution, not because of its educational purpose, but rather because

they once preached war propaganda (back when Donovan was a student),

they are elitist

they allow powerful adults to reunite together

lastly they might even have ties to organizations like Project Apple and "Garden"

Ultimately, Eden Academy so far best illustrates the whole "knowledge is power" theme of the story and, while the kids are innocent and unaware of what's going on, they are still akin to windows through which readers (and Twilight) might glimpse at a darker reality where war is brewing.

So ch112.1 telling us that kids from elite families from Ostania but also from other countries can study all at the same place can be a good thing, but maybe also hints at a dangerous reality. As always, Endo-sensei tells us in a humorous tone...

...but beware the harsh reality beneath the comic relief. ;)

Lastly, it simply is realistic when you're young to change classrooms every now and then and to meet new friends, so let's wish that Anya will also have the opportunity to befriend new people !

Good Omens: all about its score

I know these have a lot of text, but I tried to put everything in a “chronological, this fits together” order. If you love music, you know how much the score of a certain series/ film adds to the feeling of it.

David Arnold is a genius. There is so much going on beneath the surface. All those little strings you might not pay attention to, they are ATTENTION worthy.

I also want to point out the one thing I did not add on the slides: there is a moment at the beginning of episode 6 of season 1 where Mark Kermode played the harmonica. (Just as a little cameo for you :) ) In the words of @neil-gaiman “ Ennio Morricone-style Western harmonica music”.

All of the information here was gathered from interviews with David Arnold. (Those include videos as well and the DVD commentaries). I will leave all my sources in part 2.

On how Crowley and Aziraphale felt during the kiss (but mainly Crowley here):

Ok so first, the main idea for this huge meta is that a LOT of us noticed how the music from the kiss scene is similar to the nebula one, right?

Second, a lot of us also correctly noticed the parallels between the kiss and how it was to taste food for the first time for Aziraphale: bc of his reactions, the hand on lips, the similar way MS acted both scenes, the little inhale etc. So how was it for Crowley?

Aziraphale's reaction to the kiss is practically a puzzle to solve on its own, so it's fun to analyse it, but basically, in a few words, Aziraphale kissed Crowley and he discovered he was physically starving for him, longing for him, yearning for him, for his kiss, and he had no idea. Just like with the ox. And now he needs to gorge himself in him but he can't. Great amazing heartbreaking chef's kiss someone give MS an Emmy.

But there's already so much amazing meta out there about Aziraphale x Ox ribs x The Kiss that I want to focus on Crowley here, and on the music.

So back to the music. The song in "Before the Beginning" and the song that plays during The Kiss (I Forgive You + Don't Bother) are so similar. They're not *exactly* the same, but they're totally reminiscent of each other. The viewer is immediately reminded of those chords that played in the opening scene. It's no coincidence that the fandom was talking about this fact only minutes after first watching those final fifteen minutes. This is an obvious intentional choice for storytelling reasons (David Arnold is a genius).

I have no expertise whatsoever when it comes to music, so I asked our friend @otsanda to see if that made sense and not only it does and she explained it, but she also uncovered so much more hidden meaning in all of it (musicians are amazing), so check out her meta about the music that not only serves as evidence to what I'm proposing here but it also has so much more juicy information in it 💖.

Back to the point: WHY thought? Why choose a similar song? Why intentionally COMPOSE a similar song for that moment?

Hear me out. WHAT IF, by reminding the audience of the creation of the nebula, they meant to convey to us that, for Crowley, kissing Aziraphale gave him the same feeling that creating his stars did?

THAT'S what the music is telling us. THAT'S why it makes us remember "Before the Beginning". It may sound cheesy, but Crowley may have literally seen stars when he kissed Aziraphale. He couldn't react accordingly (just like Aziraphale couldn't), bc it was an overwhelming and extremely sad moment (the music is also telling us that) for both of them. They knew it was ending . They were both having a moment of huge revelation that was fated to not come to completion. Crowley was right, it was too late.

It makes sense to show Crowley's feelings through the music, bc he was the one who started the kiss, and also he was wearing sunglasses in that scene, it's different from a character like Aziraphale that has all his million expressions for everyone to see at all times. And they've been doing this ever since s1 with the Queen songs that play in his car or in the background.

So my point is: the same song being used there makes me wonder if kissing Aziraphale finally gave him what he lost. His purpose. What Aziraphale was trying to give back to him by taking him back to heaven. There's no need for Heaven. Just kiss him, Aziraphale, and there he'll find the stars you want to give back to him. There you will one day see that smile on his face you saw Before The Beginning. Neil Gaiman and David Arnold I am in your walls 😭

This is what may lead us to see this happiness in Crowley again (not the action of kissing itself, of course, but what it represents to their relationship, them being together, them being an Us).

As @otsanda said: from the music we can interpret that that moment was a Revelation for them. Almost a religious experience. Crowley found his purpose again. What he'd been missing the whole season (or even his whole life since the Fall, but we've seen him especially depressed this season).

I'm not even getting into the poetry of how one can interpret the parallel to the angel's reaction to the kiss as carnal, and the demon's as religious; that would be another whole essay but let's just agree that it's incredibly beautiful. (Let me be clear that I mean here Aziraphale's reaction is carnal specifically for Crowley, and Crowley's is religious specifically for Aziraphale, not religious as in "worshipping god")

"Do you ever wonder what's the point?" Crowley asked in s2e1. The point, for him, is Aziraphale (if you've seen The Good Place you know what I mean). I hope he figured this out with that kiss, even as heartbreaking as it was. Even if it was a (temporary) separation kiss. (I hope Aziraphale figures this out with time too, that he's more than enough to make Crowley happy, that Crowley doesn't need Heaven, or stars, that Crowley needs him.)

Maybe that's why Crowley didn't leave and kept waiting outside until the very last moment.

Aziraphale and Crowley both bit the apple at the end of s2. There's no turning back from that Knowledge now.

Edit: I just have to add here this brilliant colour analysis of the nebula scene by @halemerry. And it's pointed out that during the nebula formation there's a moment when it looks like two people embracing. And the fact that a similar song is used in the actual Kiss scene I just... I have no words
