I BEAT THE FIRST AC GAME AND EVEN MANAGED TO KILL NINEBALL IN THE SHAFT!!!
Tumblr media
I would like to give a shout out to the karasawa and plasma cannon for being stupid overpowered and carrying me through most of the game :]
(and also the infinite energy cheat that was available with my emulator that let me completely trivialize the platforming section at the end, but that was the only time i used cheats)

Is our pilot a Human Plus recipant???
In AC1 if you racked up too much debt(got your mech destroyed too many times), you’d be given an ‘option’ to take part of an experimental surgery that would wipe out your debt. The resulting surgery would make your human pilot cyborg essentially and allow the pilot to “connect” with the AC to become a better pilot. This allowed you to shoot heavy back weapons while mobile, increased energy conservation and an ever present radar system.
Gameplay wise it was a mechanic to help players lacking in skill to enjoy the game. Lore wise, it was a terrifying means of loss of self since your name would be replaced by a code name and random numbers. As the game(s) continued, it wasn’t uncommon to fight other pilots who were Human Plus recipatns but in AC4, with the introduction of Lynx Pilots, being jacked into your AC wasn’t uncommon. While the games aren’t exactly connected, Human Plus continues to exist in some capacity. That brings me to AC6

It’s pointed out we’re an Augmented Human and our name is C4-621. Not exactly the same naming convention as AC1 just having the name “Rebel” followed by random numbers, but it’s pretty similar.

And in this scene, we can see our AC moving while shooting an otherwise heavy back launcher, without taking a squat to absorb the recoil. It’s a few small things, but this makes me excited for its implemtation. With that said, I wonder if it’ll make an actual comeback as a means of beginner friendly gameplay mechanics or it’s just a story beat for or protagonist.

Human Plus sounds cool but in universe lore makes it pretty terrifying for the most part since not only is your skeletal structure and organs are replaced, but those who get it are prone to insanity, able to be mentally controlled, external body stiffness due to the skeletal replacement, and while the person who undertakes the operation may stay physically young for the rest of their lives, their internal hardware can breakdown cause their heart to simply stop.

Also you fell for my trap to listen to me nerd out about AC lore that gets overlooked.

Going from the starter AC to something that can stay almost entirely in the air during combat is such peak player progression. I love this series so much

I know it’s a joke but this legit got the neurons firing and I need to feed the beast so here’s a quick and dirty guide for anyone wanting to get into Armored Core 1:
-The game will drop you into the hot seat for the tutorial, don’t worry about failing, it gives you plenty of breathing room to experiment with things. It’ll feel a little rough at first, but keep calm and you’ll do fine.
-The game will let you rebind your controls from the System menu if the default settings feel too jank, which can happen a lot since if memory serves some of the controls start inverted. Below is an alternate keybind layout that might be worth trying:
Tumblr media
This scheme will set all your directional movement to your D-Pad, while the bumpers are used for turning left/right, left trigger looks down, right trigger looks up.You will get the look-up and -down buttons confused every single time, but don’t worry, you’ll get used to it.
-The Garage menu has an AC Test option where you can try out your machine’s current equipment without having to worry about money being spent on repairs or ammo. It is the exact same fight as the tutorial. The enemies in it are damage sponges, but that’s so they’ll last longer when testing your weapons out.
-Learning to use cover and how it interacts with your target lock and weapon mechanics like missiles will help early on when money is scarce and repair costs present growing pains.
-Spend time getting a feel for how many shots from each weapon takes out which kind of enemies. Your interface will tell you in the bottom...right? If your weapon’s shots hit and if they destroyed an enemy with a little indicator icon, if my memory is right.
-Each mission is a job you’re getting paid to do. There will be cases where a challenge or enemy is thrown your way that you can ignore entirely because taking care of it isn’t in your contract for the mission.
-Don’t believe his floating mines.
tips for reddit users coming to tumblr:
unlike traditional shooting games, ammo isn't free and neither are repairs. while it might seem obvious to spend all of your starting money on the highest quality parts available to you, this can easily result in the expenses of your early missions plunging you into the red
