Random Grey's Anatomy Opinions (Part Four)

Arizona, Callie, Meredith, and Jo's short hair/bob eras were amazing, but Amelia's was so bad. Meredith's bangs era was also really bad, but Lexie's was really amazing (but then again, Lexie slayed in every hair era). Bailey and Maggie's season 19 hair styles were so pretty, and I bow down to the hair hair department for that. Simone's original curly hair was gorgeous, but I wasn't sure how to feel about her shorter and straighter hair, and I still have mixed feelings about it.

Even disregarding my dislike for Owen, Teddy's relationships with Koracick and Henry (say his name, Teddy!) were so much better and so much more compelling.

Eliza was not that bad of a character when she first started and people were definitely being so immature to her, but she did end up a really bad character (especially when she didn't tell anyone that Stephanie was missing).

Numerous dynamics that should've lezzed out at least once: Teddy & Cristina, Meredith & Cristina, Lexie & April, Addison & Meredith, April & Arizona, Cristina & Callie, Arizona & Herman, April & Cristina, Callie & Addison, Bailey & Addison, Jo & Stephanie, Lexie & Amelia.

Everyone guilt-tripping Meredith about leaving the hospital in season 18 was so immature and stupid because not only was it inconsiderate of Meredith's feelings, but it also indicated that the entire hospital would completely collapse without this one singular doctor.

Meredith is by no means the worst character, but she certainly isn't the best either.

While Amelia should've gotten to say goodbye to Derek and she had a right to be upset that she didn't get to, I can't really blame Meredith because her entire world turned on its axis and she was trying her hardest to keep herself together for her kids (and we all know Meredith is a constant mess on a good day).

In the early seasons, Izzie was a great, complex character (besides her really weird misogynistic hatred for Callie), but was quickly ruined when she slept with George and just went downhill after that.

Breaking up Winston and Maggie was a stupid decision because they were so cute, but I do understand that they had a lot of problems because Maggie and Winston did not really seem to know each other after their marriage.

Whenever the show brings out a new batch of interns, the show kind of shoots itself in the foot because it tries to balance the stories of the old cast and the new cast, but with more and more cast being accumulated, there's just not enough attention for the new members, so the general audience cares much less about them (there are exceptions with characters like Jo and Schmitt becoming fan favorites).

Idk what was wrong with you people, but both Eliza and Erica Hahn were very good characters and, especially Erica, deserved to stay on the show longer.

Oh and also, Carina would have been way better if she stayed with Arizona.

so in ‘Arizona march song’, Arizona’s state song, Arizona is called ‘our goddess and our queen’.

Hiii! I love all your character analysis posts and theories so much, and was wondering if you have done any theories about where the gang was before Blackwater, by chance? I think I saw a post recently mentioning Montana but I can't for the life of me remember if it was you who posted it or not! 😅

But I've wondered about their locations before RDR2 a lot and would love to hear your thoughts about it. I remember reading a very early page in Arthur's journal about how they were in the Northen Grizzlies? But apart from that I can't remember anything else about locations, if there were any mentioned. And I'm sorry if you have done a post like this already, it's just a little piece of the backstory I'd like to hear theories about 😊

Well, firstly, some places that exist in real life does not exist in red dead and those are the places on the map. Texas is New Austin, New Orleans is Saint Denis and Luisiana is Lemoyne, meanwhile Californa and New York does exist in game, meaning we can't completely be sure what places exist unless they are directly mentioned.

Firstly, we know they have been in Chicago, that is where Dutch and Hosea met! Then in 1877 the pair went to Kettering, Ohio, where they scammed 300$ out of the residents, later that year we know that they met Arthur in the Northern states somewhere, which could also be Montana! We do not know more than it was someplace in the North.

We also know some time before they met Arthur, they went to Blackwater once but exactly when we do not know.

In 1885 we know they were in Illinois, saving and picking up John Marston and two years later they robbed their first bank Lee and Hoyt, which we do not know where is.

But between then and 1898, they robbed 36 banks across the frontier as stated by Ross in rdr1, which is where we get the famous "We were told there was a price when we reached 50." The wiki page of the VDL gang does say they came to Montana in 1898 but they won't give me source to confirm it, which is a little annoying, but just mentioning it.

We know at some point between 1893 and 1898, after Bill joining the gang, they went to Canada, him, Arthur and Uncle robbing a bank together.

At some point between 1895 and 1897, we also know they went to Tocson Arizona, where Javier and Arthur robbed a bank together with Karen who dressed up as a nun and hid firearms under her clothing.

We also know that for a while they would return to the same places for Arthur's romances. Both with Eliza, where he could pop by every few months and for Mary, whom they at least returned to after 1894 when Abigail joined, and before the deaths of Annabelle and Bessie.

Either way, now we come to the fun parts, around winter 1898, the gang was up in what is called the Northern Grizzles, we only have access to the western (Around Mount Hagen) and Eastern (O'Creagh's Run), so I would assume that the Northen are outside the map, probably up above the Wapiti Reservation somewhere.

They traveled down the "Western Foothill of the mountians", not sure what road they took as it could be one off map, which I would honestly guess, probably traveling around the cold of Colter and coming in from left side of the map. Either way, they most likely ended up somewhere down by and Big Valley, which can match up with the fact that Arthur mentions that life was good and food was easy to find. That area does have a lot of easy food access and so forth.

Now I have seen a few people say Dutch met Micah in Strawberry, which is honestly very fair assumption, it matches up with a lot, but a simple fact is forgotten, Strawberry does not have a bar, which is where they met.

I would say that Micah most likely had been in Strawb and done, whatever business he had with Slim and Martha (I believe their names were), and traveled up and out of map where he met Dutch and then decided to join them back down.

Afterwards they traveled down to Blackwater where they "hid in plain sight" right outside town as Arthur says he does not like being so close to the town, and considering how close they were to Valentine, I would guess they camped at the ledges where Charles and Javier hides when going to find Sean, either there or the other side of the town.

Blackwater Camp:

But even though they were camped so close to down, Arthur funnily enough still stayed in town from time to time. It does however not seem that they were settled there or in Big Valley for very long, as Arthur also says that they have been running more than normally those weeks.

Now we get to a bit that confuses me because suddenly the group goes from the southern part of the map down in Blackwater, to suddenly appearing up by Spider Grove by Colter, and Arthur mentions that they headed "east over the Grizzlies" so they went west from Blackwater, out of the map, and then up North only to go east again. Not to mention that it seems they did it in a fairly short time, they haven't had proper time to talk about what happened, they were still shook, Davey was not yet dead from a gut wound and Jenny was burried not far from where we first see the gang?

See that is a little confusing, but I hope that answers your question! I had a lot of fun answering it at least, rereading Arthur's journal and all.

another long obnoxious stream of my thoughts while watching greys anatomy for the first time (season 13 bc nobody has stopped me!!)

-can i just say that i will never ever base my preconceptions of a show off tiktok again lol. before i watched this show i fully expected to hate maggie and april. i’m nervous bc i’ve also seen people who haven’t watched pp say they hated amelia but so far i don’t see why.

-i’m confused?? amelia has definitely mentioned her anencephalic baby to owen before. maybe she hasn’t laid out the whole story but she definitely mentioned him some time after derek died.

i'm new here and just finished s12... kinda regret going through with this it's painful at best. i'm realizing that jealousy means two very different things to callie and arizona post divorce. do you have thoughts on this?

first off, welcome! and kudos for finishing s12

i think what a lot of the jealousy issues in calzona boil down to is that arizona doesn't really feel like she has any right to be jealous throughout their relationship. first, it's because they've just started dating, then arizona's not ever allowed to have any negative feelings about mark, then arizona's depressed and miserable, then she cheats and loses (in her mind) any right to feel possessive over callie. and for callie, until arizona cheats, i don't think she ever really felt like she needed to be jealous. arizona never really was disloyal/moved on in any way, even when they were broken up (which tbh can't be said for callie - *cough cough* the knee girl *cough cough* mark) it never really occurred to callie to be jealous, beyond that moment in s8, but even then, none of those women were at all serious with arizona, which, i think, made callie seem more secure.

as for post divorce, so much of arizona's behavior in s11/12 is super overcompensation. she's trying so hard to not hold callie back, not be the one clinging to their marriage, that she's out there with the whole "kiss everyone" thing. she was jealous of callie moving on, but she was also hyper conscious of the fact that she wasn't allowed to be jealous anymore. and we never really see callie in a situation to be jealous post divorce, but tbh i think she'd take either of carina or eliza pretty poorly.

i wish grey’s did these little messages thing they do with cristina sometimes but with calzona throughout season 13(maybe even add a few phone calls from arizona’s perspective). like, them fighting over texts? sign me up. arizona leaning in to kiss eliza or something and suddenly her phone chimes and it’s callie and she’s suddenly a dumbfounded mumbling mess? everybody cheered

UGH wait this would be so good oh my god! imagine if all of s13 and 14 was spent watching calzona get to the point where they actively flirt via text, all while they’re literally both in relationships. we were so robbed

ailesswhumptober day 16: drowning / hostile environment / "i don't know how anybody could survive that"

chapter 2 / 7 of you fall and you crawl and you break | not rated, chose not to warn

a chorus of car alarms began as the street rumbled. jackie instinctively moved towards the window, to see what could have possibly caused such a loud sound, but her dad's firm hands on her shoulders pulled her back.

"remember what they said on the news, baby."

jackie nodded. a week full of emergency broadcasts interrupting everything from early morning cartoons to the weather was hard to forget. 

"if we see the hulk, we can't let him see us," jackie said. "but why? he's a hero, like the falcon. and he only hurts bad people, and we're not bad people, are we, and also are we sure this isn't just an earthquake? we learned about earthquakes in school last week. miss eliza said that - "

"jackie. you keep still, you keep outta his sight. if he can see you - and he shouldn't, baby, we'll be far away before that can happen - you don't look him in the eye." dad made her promise that she wouldn't, and she agreed, 'cause he promised her that there wouldn't be a chance of it happening, but it did. 

their entire block seemed to collapse within a minute. the hulk's roar was even louder than the helicopters that hovered above him. they looked like jackie's toys when they were so close to the hulk's large hands; he even crushed them like she would when playing pretend. 

the hulk stood in the middle of what used to be a house, surrounded by flames and scraps of cars. jackie gasped as she saw him, 'cause how could she not, and somehow he heard and slowly, slowly turned his head around. green eyes, so bright that they could rival the glow-in-the dark stars on her ceiling, stared right at her. neither of them moved for the longest second of jackie's short life, and then the hulk crouched and jumped away.

"i don't get it. how can anybody survive that?"

"we did, baby." dad coughed. "we did."

old mrs. melrose's version of the story lined up with the cop's and the father's in the way that a late night talk show host's monologue of the news is technically but not usually accurately considered a news report. it was more amusing, and a welcome distraction from the actual story, but it wasn't one jackie could afford to waste time on. 

"he was a monster," the old lady had said. "a devil," said the priest whose name she already forgot; she could always rewind her recordings and check the transcript, if necessary. the bartender and the cop loosely identified another witness, but with all that went on and went down after the fight in the church, no one bothered to follow up on him. 

on the record, no one else seemed to connect that the witness in south dakota matched the description of the john doe from the gas station in arizona, which matched a similar body in colorado not far from where bruce banner supposedly called the EPA into a cemetery. no one wanted to think about the implications of all the sudden gamma related deaths charting a similar path. no one except walter langkowski, to jackie's delight and her editor's chagrin.

the herald couldn't afford to cover the expenses, but langkowski had no such qualms and was glad to pay for anything and everything they might need as they headed towards tennessee. he talked with great enthusiasm and theatrics as he described his past with bruce, and actually managed to surprise jackie with some of the stories.

"i gotta be honest with you, mcgee, i'm concerned at how much people have forgotten these things or if shield's scrubbed it all from public record."

"there's another option," jackie added, "which is that they simply don't care. what i don't understand is how he could've survived all that."

walt shrugged from just outside her peripheral. "he's the hulk. that's what he does."

"oh, i've accepted that long ago. i meant bruce; the things you said about his parents and what happened before he arrived at penn, i don't know how anybody could survive that."

they slowed to a stop at the red light, and their conversation stalled with the car. walt sighed as he ran his hands through his wild mane of hair, then asked, "remember what i told you about replicating bruce's process?"

"what you said two minutes ago? yeah, it's gonna be hard to forget that." 

the light changed to green, and walt's energy returned.

"one of the things i tried to be sure of was that by creating my own hulk, i'd be the one in control, not him. and it was so, so easy to do that, mcgee, to move around as sasquatch while still being me. everyone kept praising me for it. they figured that since my body was stronger than bruce's, and i had a better handle on it than he did, that's what made it easier."

he paused and gave her time to hear what he hadn't said. 

"it wasn't the body. or it wasn't just the body, or the differences in your physicality. or the way yours was a deliberate transformation, each time, while his was accidental. bruce… bruce didn't survive all of that, at least not on his own."

"now you're getting it, mcgee."

jackie had believed walt when he said he had total control over sasquatch. she thought she had seen proof when the knife was plunged into his back and he bled uncontrollably. 

and then bruce banner arrived at the hospital and told her to get everyone out. "he's got the same gamma signature as i do, you understand? walt may not make it off that operating table, but someone else will."

the hulk that jackie met in minnesota resembled the one she remembered from arizona, in the way that he was massive and green, but that's where the similarities ended. the hulk she remembered from her youth gained strength and power through his anger; the more he was pushed, the harder he pushed back. he didn't seem to be aware or care about the people behind the guns and aircraft attacking him, and that's what scared her.

the hulk in minnesota, the one who fought a beast who was neither sasquatch nor langkowski, was mindful of their location. he avoided the corpses already on the ground, tried to prevent another from joining their ranks, and used himself as a vessel to contain what was left of walt's gamma radiation. he spoke with the same urgency and clarity as banner, carried the same tension in his shoulders, and clenched his jaw and his fists and listened instead of tearing the place apart.

"gamma makes me stronger," he explained, and left it at that. 

he pieced together that this wasn't an ordinary story for jackie, told her to tell him exactly why she cared to follow them around if she couldn't even look at them, and that's what scared her. 

"fine!" she confessed as she stood up to look hulk in the face. "it is personal, and i have to ask - how do i get to be what you are?!" 

the hulk merely sighed, told jackie to go home, and walked away. 

she went with walt to the alpha flight station instead, learned of the one below all, and wished for a brief moment that she never heard of the hulk. she blamed the adrenaline on the stupid question which she already had the tragic answer to, eavesdropped on carol's plan to take down banner, and waited for the station's comms to alert her of the news.

if anybody could survive a fight to the death against the avengers, it would be hulk.

More Live Music

Nancy and I managed to last three hours today at the Sunday edition of the 39th Annual Tucson Folk Festival. We got to see some of The Jane Heirs, Carlos Arzate & the Kind Souls, Mark Insley & the Broken Angels, Sophia Rankin & the Sound, the Out of Kilters, and Ron Pandy & the Wild Pitch Band.

There were other performances both Saturday and Sunday we would have liked to have seen, but we just couldn't stick around long enough or run back and forth to different stages quickly enough to manage that large a selection.

There have been a lot of wonderful acts at the Tucson Folk Festival over the years. Eliza Gilkyson, Tish Hinojosa, Asleep at the Wheel, the Austin Lounge Lizards, Richie Havens, Watkins Family Hour, Ray Wylie Hubbard, David Bromberg, Chris Hillman, Pokey LaFarge, Guy Clark, and many, many more.

Every year since 1986—except for 2020, when it was cancelled due to COVID—the festival has featured multiple stages of music in traditional, contemporary, and cultural genres. It has grown to be Arizona’s largest free music festival and annually attracts more than 20,000 fans and talented performers from all over Southern Arizona and across the country. I have been fortunate to attend many of the festivals over the years.

I joked with some people that we might just come back to Tucson for the Folk Festival every year. One person mentioned that Eugene has a good music community, so we look forward to exploring that once we get settled.
