🦇 You, Again Book Review 🦇

❓ #QOTD Have you ever been to New York (if yes, what's your go-to spot, if no, what's your favorite type of bagel)?❓ 🦇 When Ari and Josh first meet, the wrong kind of sparks fly. They hate each other. Instantly. A free-spirited, struggling comedian who likes to keep things casual, Ari sublets, takes gigs, & she never sleeps over after hooking up. Born-and-bred Manhattanite Josh has ambitious plans: Take the culinary world by storm, find The One, & make her breakfast in his spotless kitchen. They have absolutely nothing in common...except that they keep crossing paths. As they're both reeling from ego-bruising breakups, a chance encounter leads to a surprising connection: friendship. Turns out, spending time with your former nemesis is fun when you're too sad to hate each other--& too sad for hate sex. Can they stop hating each other long enough to fall in love?

💜 I have so many conflicting thoughts & feelings about this book. Prose that might seem witty & modern to some will come off as cringe (over-attempting at 'hip' & relevant) to others. Yet there's a sort of magnetism to the entire thing, like trying to look away from a train crash running in slow motion. The concept of two people constantly colliding (getting second & third chances to repair the bad first impression they made on one another) is definitely intriguing, & works perfectly in a setting like New York City. There's also something painfully realistic about hurt people finding comfort in one another, learning how to heal by helping the other heal. The underlying themes--healing, recognizing your self-worth, making your own legacy--resonate on every page. There's also a little love letter to New York here, the same way The Bear is a love letter to Chicago (& this book definitely screams The Bear vibes, for those of you who FINALLY watched it).

💙 Unfortunately, both characters are dreadfully unlikeable. They're both equally stubborn, & since this is an opposites attract romance, they clash constantly when they think they're in the right. Poor Josh has his heart wide open but moves too fast, while Ari has her heart under lock & key with unrelenting skepticism in relationships (in complete conflict with her carefree attitude). As much as I love my bi rep (especially during Bisexuality Awareness Month), Ari's sex-focused rep reads as problematic. There's nothing wrong with enjoying sex or threesomes, but it's almost used as Ari's main characteristic; an insulting cliche that bisexuals only care about one thing.

Imagine a realm where vast shards of crystalline ice drift in a swirling cosmic ballet. These shards, gleaming with a spectral luminescence, are inhabited by beings of myth and wonder. Ethereal creatures, born of starlight and the primordial essence of creation, call the Kuiper Belt their home. They flit and soar through the void, their forms as transient as the constellations above.

The crystalized nothingness was their only home, nowhere else to go, because their home stretched for millions of miles, it was never ending, as if they owned it all, and nothing at the same time.

A gentle hand reached out to poke at the crystalline shard, the nail barely scratching over the top layer, making it slightly move away with a glass like sound. The disturbance made it shimmer in the light that seemed to come out from every angle of the Universe.

The small crystal was pulled back in, the gravity not letting it go nowhere far, at least for now, for now it was trapped, like all of them.

They weren't trapped tho, they were home, at least that is what Scar thought. He seemed to feel content with staying where he was, unlike the rest.

They seemed urgent to find a way, to discover ways of being a part of society that didn't know of them anyways. Had he not provided enough?

The more he thought about it, the more sour feeling overtook his mind. The silence that hung in the atmosphere only worsened his rage, biting down on his lip, in a swift movement pulling the floating space dust in his orbit, creating a new gas planet in his hands.

That is all that it was, is that where all of them wanted to go to? A rock with life on it? It was that simple, there was nothing to see, it was just dust and air.

A slight sparkle appeared in the small crystal, the new planet was quickly crashed together in his hands, dropping the remains, leaving new asteroids in the system, someone would deal with them.

As he suspected the glistering became stronger, and so did the cold ari started to fade away, a careful, yet calm hand placed itself on his shoulder.

''For everything you worry about, I am impressed by how are you still alive.'' Grian whispered in a slightly foolish tone, stepping next to Scar and sitting down at the glassy edge of the crystalized rock.

A moment of silence lingered in the air, it never got too old to view the passing sparkles of falling meteors, it made them feel like a kid on the Earth again. Watching the raindrops drip down on the car windows and making up the most absurd games in their own head, just to entertain their bored minds.

Grian was snapped back to reality, to present, hearing a low huff of disagreement, ''Nothing I am worried about. Just tell me what is not here, that is anywhere else.''

Both of them made eye contact, Grian always felt like he was staring into nothing when looking at the others eyes, it felt like any sign of life was missing from them. And who was he to know if it wasn't true, and who was he to judge when his own eyes were just as empty on the daily, burned out from the heat.

Grian tilted his head, thin sounds of jingles from every possible jewelry on the man made a heavenly sound, like the wind chimes in a summer's day after a cold war. A weak smile appeared on the Sun's face, feathers slightly shifting, ''Difference. They aren't seeking for anything but difference, Scar. Let them have it, they will be back in no time,'' he grabbed Scars hand, and with the help of his own, made a motion their way with it to get the broken pieces of the newly formed, and broken planet, back, ''it will take only so much time before they realize that a humans body can only handle so much time.''

He melted the planet back together, giving it a solid core with the heat, ''What you create and hold, is what everyone depends on, we need you more than you know, so don't expect us to ever leave.'' Grian gave Scar back the fixed planet.

Suddenly it felt dear to him, it hurt to think of breaking it. A simple dwarf planet with no one to go to, no moon to guide it, no stars to follow, no rings to travel with. It was a loner.

His loner with a core. With a swipe of his hand, in silence he named it CFBDSIR 2149-0403.

Before he could place it anywhere, a small ''Learn to let go. Just for a moment.'' singed in his ear.

Scar looked back at Grian, ''I don't think I can.'' He felt like cracking, had he really gotten attached to something he had no time put in?

''It will come back eventually, let it float away, it will find it's way back to you when it is ready to.'' Grian calmly opened Scars fingers and freed the small ball of it's future ahead of itself.

Both of them looked as it floated away amongst everything else, crystals casting a cold reflection on it, it looked blue, it was a cold rouge.

Somewhere out in the forever lasting nothingness, a soul felt a pull towards the rouge, both lonely things, yearning for a connection. A bright white humanoid figure formed out of a ball of white void.

A glowing dust hand reached out far, far away for something that was so close, yet forever away. The soul cried out to it.

Home is where a core lays, life is formed where it seeks it.

omg Wicked was amazing. 10/10 highly recommend. i feel like Ari and Cynthia were made to play Glinda and Elphaba. mind you i don’t particularly like musicals and usually get annoyed by them but i left out of that theater feeling like i had post concert depression. like i gotta wait a whole year until part 2🙄 but Cynthia wooow. she has such a strong voice. their chemistry together was undeniable like they really seemed like besties. The Wizard and I and Defying Gravity were my favorite performances. i almost cried twice (and i don’t be crying😉) and my heart was beating soo fast it was crazy lol

i also accidentally bursted into laughter during a really quiet emotional part of the movie😭 i always laugh when people cry or myself bc it’s so awkward and weird for no reason and i always tell my friends don’t cry in front of me bc i’ll laugh. and i was tearing up and thought it was ridiculous and then i heard my friend crying next to me and the girl next to him sniffling and a girl on the other side of me and i let out this wheeze and it was sooo quiet and then my friend started laughing and we both couldn’t stop🤣 it was giving when you’re in class and you’re trying not to laugh

joy has unfortunately never learned how to shut her mouth. chronically talkative, and always finding new things to yap about. was born screaming, and she'll continue yelling if she can help it. if allowed, she'll ramble for hours on end without stop.

aside from her skills as a hunter, joy loves art and any creative pursuit. is especially fond of 3d art and multimedia, combining mediums. a big fan of textures and colors. loves keeping busy and having hobbies that don't include another person's vengeance. the best at homemade gifts; loves giving and receiving.

as is normal in any family; joy is incredibly adept at wilderness survival because of the numerous times she's been left in the woods to fend for herself ( alongside her siblings on occasion ). knows a lot of incredibly useless facts, and incredibly helpful skills involving starting a fire, netting food in trees, handmade compasses, the lot.

marijoy is obsessed with the concept of love; has always dreamed of having a big romance, of sweeping someone off of their feet ( they're always the one doing the sweeping, not the other ). is constantly harboring crushes, no matter how childish it feels. has thousands of hearts with her initials combined with others; journals of love stories.

in addition to that, joy has the terrible habit of trying to matchmake all of her single friends. it's her own personal life mission. often jokes she should've been a love advice columnist, but she loves the sometimes ominous, sometimes pointed messages she can leave people each week.

a girl's girl, first and foremost. her friends always come first, and she's not afraid to betray any of her siblings in the name of girl code ( although it'd be a hard decision ). really, truly values her friendships. can't say she has an enemy, really ( though she's sure people dislike her, even if just by association ). would literally kill for the people she loves.

being a banshee doesn't come without disadvantages, though; the weight of constantly meeting death can weight heavy on her, even if she's technically used to it. she often contemplates life on a grander scale, what her purpose is - what it means to be a banshee. has a lot of self - doubt that she'll never admit to.

overall tries to be optimistic and there for people, even if she doesn't particularly like them. believes strongly in second chances, and fated encounters. she's confident, and enthusiastic, and endlessly energetic. a big ball of energy that's probably capable of supplying the town with endless power.
