Curiosities

I only heard about Curiosities when their press rep contacted me about promotion opportunities (I work in the industry) and since he offered me comps I trekked out to Park Slope

There's a lot of positive things about the show- high on the list are the lovely light and the beautiful vignettes it, and the set built out of pallets, creates, but there are some major casting and costuming/hair missteps that make it hard to stay "in" it.

There are basically two shows, the "performance" and what's (supposed to be) an illegal sideshow (but just felt like a speakeasy) and then the backstage lives of the performers which consists largely of strings of 1:1 moments with a few dance elements.

There are several strong performers, the songbird and her husband in particular, but others are weak, the "owner" of the show primarily, who should've been a scary snake-oil type of guy but comes across as a lost man-child which took the power out of the finale.

It's worth seeing if you can get the $30 rush tickets, which I'd guess they have most nights, but it's not worth the $100 price tag. 6/10
