Abelie had been close to all her siblings, loving Aviva's gentle ways, Alynne's protective nature, Alden's stoic yet knowledgeable actions, but it was Arendt she missed most.
They had been raised almost like twins, always wandering about together, sharing their happiness with other residents of Hillside, but especially the kitchens, where the cooks were very familiar with the raven-haired boy and titian-haired girl .
She laughed gently at the memory, of those puffy little pastries she loved so much and just couldn't match with her own baking.
She missed being a little child with Arendt, but Rovan was home for now, and she would make the best of it.

Arendt readied a small boat and with careful planning he brought along Maris, to return to the lands he had been born to, Hillside.
He didn't know if he would get to see his momma, but with the expected return, he found himself wanting and yearning to see his homelands again.

It had been warm enough, and on a day of reprieve, he found himself with Maris out in the open water, where he loved to watch her be free.
The sun basking on his skin, the water keeping him cool, he could almost forget the dilemma before him.
He had missed Hillside more than he realized, his mother's sweet care, but especially the food.
He missed sweet Mrs. Patmore or Mrs. Millicent's cooking. They continued to spoil him rotten when he 'found' himself in the kitchens where nowadays he was put to work for his meals.
For now, they would stay, but he knew, soon Maris would begin to wonder...

"Interesting timing." Aviva called. While festivities readied and food was displayed for Caspian the Snow Mystic King, she had visited the chicken coup with Veda to calm the fussy chickens, and gather the eggs that would be needed to make the grandiose cake, when Arendt appeared.
"You are looking more and more sun-kissed every day." She said with a smile, shoving an egg gathering apron into his chest. "Help will you." And when he approached she gave him a tight hug. "Come away from the sea life more often."
She admired the quiet confidence of her baby brother, a man now, with his own responsibilities and just as stoic as she remembered Alden, and even Arendt's father.
"Stay for the dinner, Caspian should meet you." And they fell into a silence, realizing Arendt was not bringing up anything about The War in Arbor, the fight between their mother and abelie, and that Abelie was no where to be seen.
"Look you need to know what's going on."
And began, sharing everything she knew about Arbor, The Tree People, Alynne, Alden, their mother's 'sisters', and finally the fight between their mother and Abelie.
She bated her time, "Arendt....also...no one has seen Abelie in many moons."
Arendt wondered what had been all this pomp and circumstance when a grand ship arrived. He had been too far away to notice who had set foot in Barley, but after explaining to Maris he would be returning before sundown, he went into town, where he asked where he could find either his sister or brother-in-law, and was told Aviva had just snuck into the chicken coup with his niece. Veda was first to notice him and ran at him, jumping into his arms where instead of actually collecting eggs, she used his apron as her basket to gather as many as they needed.
The chickens clucked but did not mind Veda in the least.
"I saw the ship, is that who I think it is?" When Aviva had once shared that once upon a time a prince had courted her, he didn't hesitate to believe her, but to see the man who had let his sister slip from his fingers was something else entirely.
At the invitation to join them, he didn't care that he would not be able to attend in proper garb, all he wanted was a chance to spend time with his family here and mayhaps even meet this King.
Veda stole off with his apron to take to the cooks who would be impatient to get to baking the King the best treat possible.
Arendt realized Aviva had something to share and tried to listen without reacting.
"Wait, wait, wait! Arbor is at war, our brother and sister are there and I am not?!" He shook his head wildly, "I do not understand....how can Mam and Abi have a fight? No! Good gods, why is Abi so stubborn!" And groaned, angry at himself and huffed hard, "Aviva, where is Abelie?!?"

She didn't want to stop, wanted to push on, and harder still to return home. Hillside was calling to her. On their slow trek, she had heard on the wind a nefarious rumor that had caused a note of concern and her stomach to tighten. She had to ignore it, the poison was winning and each and every day she moved slower and slower, until she had no choice but to let Ulrich attempt to finally pull the last of the arrowhead from her collarbone. Barbed, it proved a bloody affair, but Ulrich persevered, and Helena fought on. For Abelie, for Arendt, for their family, for herself, and for the flutter in her belly.

The fight had come to them, as the woods seperated one from the other, they were left to protect one child each, and Helena felt the arrowhead protruding through her shoulder, so close to shattering her collarbone. She breathed hard, Arendt was safe, Abelie in the protection of Ulrich, and thought of the chance she had taken to find her kin, but only felt immense guilt. Standing over her, the tattooed man, no kindness in his expression, he meant to end her, but fell to the blade. Her small blade, and collapsed as Ulrich found her again, his wolfish form, neither true wolf, nor true man ended the man, and his fellow assasin. "You did not fail me Ulrich...you saved them, and I."

Helena had made up her mind. This Wolf was coming with. It would be hard enough to separate Abelie from Ulrich. She was already utterly besmitten by him.

“With them together now, I know they will also watch out for each other. Arendt is always trying to keep Abelie in sight, even moreso now that Abelie has taken so much to Ulrich...” She smiled gently as she held her quill in hand, glancing towards Abelie and Arendt. “There is only hope, that they continue to remember they have each other...”

Her time in Tendaryl had come to an end, and with Arendt in hand, they gave themselves to the sea. Another ship’s ride, watching the hue of the ocean change, as lands became specks in the distance, and the seas surrounded them. She missed her little girl, just as much as she missed her daughters and son. And it was time Abelie came along with her. “Mothers should never be parted from their children...” she whispered to Arendt, who had grown more fond of the seamen, and were teaching him songs of the seas and the ways of the men on board. They tried to respect Helena, the only other woman they had seen in so long, and held her own when a few of their eyes wandered over her when she walked with her son. The lessons had continued, when Arendt had finally begun to show interest in the healing herbs she had brought along with her. While he was not as exact on the terms, she was pleased to know he even tried to share some of this knowledge with the men on board, pointing one plant out over the other and their uses. Her last day on solid land, she sent out two ravens, one to Alynne and one to Aviva. To Alynne her note was short, curt even, sending word that Abelie no longer be sent to Tendaryl, but to Barley, but once more proclaimed that a Skye needed to remain in Hillside. Aviva’s scroll read simply, she would come to Barley, see her and meet the newest member of the Skye family, and that Abelie would be there as well. She failed to mention how long her stay would be, or that she would not be returning to Hillside, not yet. Moving along the ship’s deck, with a fussy Arendt on her hip, she settled near the stern of the ship, and sat there, letting the wind tangle her loose hair and that of Arendt’s and laughed lightly at the sight of her disheveled son, who seemed unperturbed by it all. “To Barley we go...and to your sisters.”

“Aradyn is different. I am not needed as much as I have become accustom to, but the change in environment and pace is a welcomed one. The Princess says we will have be heading out soon. Another change, and another environment to explore. I miss my daughters, and son, and while Arendt makes no qualms about all the moving about, I wonder if he misses Hillside any. he is well liked here, and my stoic little boy seems to be thriving, and for that I am contented.”
