I know people talk about using the alternate disability pride flag that isn't zig zags, but for me, a visually disabled person, the alternate/newer one is not accessible for me. If I don't have anything correcting my vision, I can no longer tell what the flag is, and sometimes even when I have things correcting my vision, I cannot tell. The bright colors and unique pattern help me tell what the flag is. Otherwise, it just looks like a mush to me.
I think this goes to show that disabled people have conflicting needs oftentimes. So I am not saying that using the "new" version is wrong, but rather that, I am very tired and exhausted of the narrative that I've seen saying you MUST use the "new" one and that it is better for disabled people to use the new one.

Just a heads up to everyone that is the outdated version of the disability pride flag, that version was causing people eyestrain triggered migraines and in some cases risked seizures. So the original creator edited the design and the current disability pride flag looks like this
Tumblr media
It's less saturated and no longer has the lighting bolt like shape to it

Are you sad that June is over and you don't have a pride month anymore? Fear not, friends! There's a different pride month just beginning! lgballt

Is it harmful to the eyes to study under the table lamp light?
With the rise of digital devices and long working hours, many people are asking if it is harmful to their eyes to study under a table lamp light. With an increasing demand for table lamps online in India, it's important to understand exactly what this kind of lighting can do to your health to make an informed decision before purchasing one. In this article, we will explore how traditional table lamp lights could potentially affect our eyesight as well as discuss some better alternatives that may protect our vision while providing adequate illumination.
The Effects of Table Lamp Light on the Eyes
Indeed, the effects of table lamp light on the eyes are not good. Reading under a table lamp can cause eye strain, headaches, and fatigue.
Table lamps are not good for reading because they provide too much light intensity to the eyes. The light from these lamps is harsh and can create headaches and fatigue when reading in front of them for prolonged periods.
The glare from these lamps can also cause eyestrain and headaches by irritating the eyes and causing them to become tired quickly. These symptoms can also lead to blurred vision, double vision, or even eye pain if you continue reading under these lights for too long.
The best option for reading under a table lamp is to use an overhead light source like an overhead fluorescent or daylight bulb if possible. These types of lights produce less glare than table lamps, which will help reduce eyestrain while you read.
Potential Health Risks Associated with Looking at a Table Lamp
The table lamp light is the most suitable for studying under. However, it is also harmful to your eyes.
The table lamp light may cause eye strain, headaches, and eyestrain. These diseases are caused by the bright light emitted by the lamp or LED lights. The light emitted from a standard fluorescent lamp or LED light is equal to 1000 times more than sunlight and can cause damage to vision if used for a long period.
If you often use the table lamp at night, you should pay attention to your eyesight during the daytime when you are not using it. You should also be careful not to overuse your computer screen because it will also cause eye strain and headache problems in some people.
The Impact of Different Types of Lighting on Your Vision
Lights can have a big impact on your vision. Here are some of the most common types of lighting and how they affect your eyesight:
LED lights can cause glare:
LED lights have become increasingly popular in homes and offices due to their energy efficiency, but they can cause glare, which can lead to eye strain and discomfort.
Electronic gadget blue light can induce digital eye strain:
Blue light generated by electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and computer screens can create digital eye strain, which can cause dry eyes, headaches, impaired vision, and neck and shoulder pain.
Poor lighting can lead to falls and injuries:
Poor lighting in homes and public spaces can increase the risk of falls and injuries, particularly among older adults who may have decreased visual acuity.
Bright lights can worsen migraines:
Bright lights, particularly fluorescent lights, can trigger migraines in some individuals. For these individuals, it may be helpful to use softer lighting or to wear sunglasses when exposed to bright lights.
Natural light can improve mood and productivity:
Exposure to natural light has been shown to improve mood, productivity, and overall well-being. When possible, it is recommended to incorporate natural light into your work and living spaces.
Tips to choose a perfect table lamp
If you are a student, you may have experienced the difficulty of studying under the table lamp light. You may have tried to shield your eyes from the glare or did not know how to choose a perfect table lamp that would reduce eye fatigue and fatigue. Here are some tips to help you find a good table lamp:
Choose the right size: The size of your table lamp should be in proportion to the size of your study table. A lamp that is too small or too big will not only look odd but will also not provide adequate lighting.
Consider the brightness: The lamp should provide enough light to make reading and writing comfortably without straining your eyes. Look for lamps with adjustable brightness settings or ones with a high-lumen output.
Choose the right color temperature: The color temperature of the light can affect your mood and concentration. For study purposes, it is recommended to choose a lamp with a color temperature of around 4000K-5000K, which is considered to be a cool white light.
Look for a lamp with a flexible neck: A lamp with a flexible neck allows you to direct the light exactly where you need it. This is particularly important if you have a large study table or if you need to move the lamp around frequently.
Check the bulb type: The type of bulb you choose can impact the quality and color of the light. LED bulbs are a good option for study lamps as they are energy-efficient and long-lasting.
Consider the design: The design of the lamp should complement your study area and match your style. Look for a lamp that is aesthetically pleasing and fits well with the overall décor of the room.
Look for additional features: Some lamps come with additional features such as a built-in USB port, a wireless charging pad, or a timer function. Consider which features would be most useful to you before making a purchase.
Conclusion
It is recommended to study in a well-lit room. It is best to have the lights on at a comfortable distance so that you can see clearly. It is also important that you have good lighting conditions for your eyes and eyesight.
It is best not to study under a table light as it may cause strain on the eyes. If you do choose to study under a lamp, make sure it does not shine directly into your eyes and that there are no shadows cast on the pages of your book or textbook

Putting Others First: Sensory Issues Masterlist
0:07-1:01 Loud voices, loud noises, computerized voices, one flash
1:11 Loud noise, digitized music
10:34: computerized voice
11:50: computerized voice
12:27: computerized voice
12:34: computerized voice
13:28-14:39: computerized voice
17:12-17:33: Video game sound effects (Mario like)
20:19-20:39 Eyestrain (bright changing colors + dizzying movement +vibrating screen) (this specifically was the worst for me, it triggered my migraines and vertigo)
21:57-22:02 computerized voice
23:00-23:21 computerized voice
26:34-26:45 computerized music and noises
26:35-30:16 computerized voice
30:20-30:25 flashing
30:26-34:33 computerized voices, music, and sound effects (Especially during the trolley problem scene, the same issues as stated before)
36:08-36:23 Computerized music and sound effects
36:23-37:45 Computerized voice
38:24 computerized sound effect (the very brief coin censoring. I find that because this is short and is not immediately sandwiched by other issues it isn’t really a problem, but I want to be as specific as possible)
Sensory issues are difficult to explain, but I’ll do my best, if anyone can explain better or has any examples I missed, please share them
I can only experience, specifically with chronic migraines, ADHD, and something undiagnosed that strongly resembles epilepsy. My issues are most often triggered by flashing, loud noises, high pitches, and an overwhelming amount of sounds at once.
A voice effect like the way Virgil’s voice doubles and deepens is less of an issue because the pitch goes lower instead of higher and stays consistent. But something like Logan’s computerized voice in this episode is a problem because the pitch goes higher and fluctuates.
The issues listed are also more of an issue together than they would have been separately because they happen so close together, and therefore there isn’t time to recover between incidents as well as by how long the incidents are. It’s also made worse by the tension the audience is already under by the tone of the video and the severity of the issue.
In general, unnatural noises can be an issue.
I’ve also seen a lot of people, as well as myself, getting very anxious by how much information is given at once with the Logan Lowdowns.
I hope this helps!

I forgot one of the least challenged misconceptions of all, here: the classic "I don't think blind people would be in this fandom for media with a visual component."
There's like three separate incorrect assumptions bundled into one thing here, so bear with me. This post is long to begin with, so I will just summarize before adding a read-more that:
Blind people have accessibility options to enjoy visual media
Blind people are not the only people who use IDs
Blind people still deserve to know what images are, even if they're not personally interested in the content
First of all, for TV and movies, audio descriptions exist. Have you ever accidentally enabled these on a streaming platform? If not, go try it.
They play in-sync with videos to describe visual information to blind and low-vision people. This post provides more detail and examples.
Are they as obligatory and normalized as they should be? No. Are they also more common than you realize? If you had the misconception above, then... yes, probably. Most streaming services have them for most media now. Blind people (and people with trouble processing visual cues!) can and do use ADs to enjoy these things.
As for visual media: in this regard, I'm less knowledgeable, but there are certainly described webcomics (both by creators and fans). Just because visual media is often inaccessible doesn't mean it has to be.
Next, we need to address the huge sub-misconception that IDs are only for blind people, and that no blind people have any vision. Many retain some vision — for example, here's a visually impaired person talking about how their vision is technically usable, but tiring to a degree that varies depending on assorted factors. A person may use a screen reader to scroll social media, but not necessarily all other contexts.
Vision isn't constant over time, either. Vision can degrade — in fact, it usually does, just to a different extent for every person. You and I and everyone who sees just fine right now will probably all eventually need, at the very least, enlarged font options. And IDs can easily be displayed in large fonts! Much more easily than zooming in on fine image details, as it happens! If you won't write IDs for any reason above or below in this post, write IDs as a favor to your older self.
On top of all this, other beneficiaries of IDs include:
people who struggle interpreting visual info (including, but certainly not limited to, ND people who struggle with expressions)
people who have images and/or gifs disabled so they don't trigger anything from eyestrain to migraines to photosensitive seizures
people who can't read handwriting (eg, due to dyslexia)
people who just straight up like seeing artist-described art because artists often call attention to cultural or personal details in IDs that the viewer wouldn't notice or know the word for on their own (I personally fall into this category)
and definitely others I'm forgetting. IDs are inclusive (and/or just plain neat) to all of us, too.
Lastly: even if someone isn't familiar with a series, even if it really was inaccessible to them for whatever reason — don't they still deserve to know the basic premise of what's in an image? Wouldn't it suck to have to wonder if you're missing out on something you care about?
Or, relatedly, haven't you ever enjoyed a series by osmosis, and gotten excited to see your blorbo in law from a series you've never personally watched/read? Blind people and other disabled people of all forms deserve that joy too.
Write image descriptions whether or not you think there's a "target audience". I understand exactly why these misconceptions exist, but that doesn't mean that addressing them is any less urgent.
please answer honestly — this is not a post intended to shame, I'm not gonna look at the results here and write a series of personalized callout posts or something, this is just me curious because I feel like understanding the reasons behind inaccessibility is the first step towards changing it
I assure you I have no illusions of being able to get a scientifically sound representative sample here, but reblogs would help out regardless!

Reaction to the new Rav
short version:
Tumblr media
[Image description: “She needs to go down” meme. An old man says “No. The new UI is terrible and fugly and it needs to be rolled back.”]
Long version: It’s overly generic, very twee, and exceptionally dated (and will be even more so once turquoise and coral go out of fashion again!), but more importantly, it is a literal eyesore. There are massive complaints of the new site triggering migraines and excessive eyestrain, mostly in people who don’t have these issues elsewhere on the internet (such as myself). The main culprit seems to be the endless #FFFFFF whitespace (combined with stark black lines around forum posts and changes in both font and line spacing for text), so many users have downloaded third-party browser extensions (which, side note, please don’t use stylish, they have a history of stealing data; I’m currently using Dark Reader and while it doesn’t look like Old Rav, it’s much less eyestabby) to compensate.
They shouldn’t have to do this. TPTB should have rolled back the new design by now; if that’s impossible thanks to the changes in layout, they really didn’t do their jobs properly. They should have given out advance notice of the site change or some sort of opt out system. They should have used more than 100 beta testers and specifically included visually impaired people in the beta pool. Cassidy and Livia should be more responsive to the mass of complaints (many of them very well-worded and precise in what is causing the additional eyestrain!), and the Tone Police should accept that just because they aren’t having problems doesn’t mean a lot of other users aren’t, and “they worked so haard!” isn’t an excuse for bad UI.

Natural Ways to Get Rid of a Headache
1 in 7 Americans – about 15 percent of the population – suffer from migraines or headaches at least once a year. In fact, headaches remain one of the leading causes of doctor visits in the U.S. (1)
While this might come as a shock to some, those suffering from migraines know that the pain can often be scary enough to run to the doctor.
But are these pains just random, or do they have a specific cause?
What Causes Headaches?
Headaches can be caused by any number of things, including:
Stress
Diet
Nutrient deficiencies
Dehydration
Spinal alignment
Sinus infections
Environmental pollution
Food sensitivity or allergy
To get a better understanding of what might be causing your headaches, it helps to become familiar with the different types of headaches.
Tension Headaches
Tension headaches are the result of – you guessed it – tension and stress. They can often become chronic if you experience daily stress, and often feel like a consistent throbbing. You might notice your neck and shoulders are also tight when you have a tension headache.
Sinus Headaches
If you find yourself pinching the bridge of your nose when you have a headache, you might find that your sinuses are to blame. Sinuses can become inflamed and cause pain around your eyes, nose, and forehead, and will sometimes be accompanied by puffy eyes and cheeks. Their cause can be sinus infections, but they can also be from food sensitivities or allergies or even gut problems.
Cluster Headaches
Cluster headaches are the type that can come on suddenly, causing an intense stabbing or burning pain. They can occur seemingly randomly over weeks then disappear for years. Their cause can be diet, nutrient, or stress-related.
Migraine Headaches
Migraines are the type of chronic headache that make you miss work and shut yourself away in a dark room. The pain can be either stabbing or throbbing and is usually accompanied by nausea and dizziness. The causes of migraines can range from mineral imbalances to food allergies, pollution, and eyestrain.
How Common Are Migraines and Headaches?
As mentioned earlier, migraines and headaches affect about 15 percent of the U.S. population, with females experiencing more migraines than males. They were also the fourth leading cause of visits to the emergency department (ED) as of 2009-2010. (2)
Symptoms and Risk Factors
Symptoms of headaches include:
Dull, throbbing pain behind the eyes or back of the head
Sharp, burning pain behind the eyes
Head pain accompanied by nausea and dizziness
Risk factors for headaches:
Excess stress
Vitamin and mineral deficiencies
Illness such as colds and sinus infections
Eyestrain
Back pain or spinal misalignment
Hormone imbalance
Environmental pollution from perfumes, household cleaners, smoke, and exhaust
Food allergies and sensitivities
Liver or detox problems
Thyroid problems
8 Natural Ways to Get Rid of a Headache
Popping a pain pill might provide you with temporary relief, but it doesn’t address the root cause of your headaches. Plus, pain medications can also have nasty side effects, like increased risk of heart failure. (3)
Instead, try some of the remedies below to address the true cause of your headache pain while also providing natural, temporary relief.
1. Essential Oils
Both inhaling and applying essential oils topically can offer quick headache relief. Two of the best for headaches are peppermint and lavender, as they have been shown to have pain-relieving effects.
Peppermint oil in particular can help soothe muscle spasms and promote relaxation, which is great for tension headaches. It has been shown in studies to increase blood flow when applied to the forehead, while also reducing headache sensitivity. (4)
Lavender oil has sedative properties that help promote muscle relaxation, and has been shown to directly influence migraine headache pain. One study showed that 91 out of 129 migraine sufferers experienced relief after inhaling lavender essential oil. (5)
Next time you’re suffering from a headache, try diluting a few drops of lavender or peppermint essential oil in a carrier oil like coconut oil, almond oil or olive oil (a teaspoon or so), then massage it around your forehead, neck, and shoulders. Alternatively, you can try adding lavender or peppermint oil to an oil diffuser and inhaling deeply.
2. Herbal Remedies
Feverfew is an anti-inflammatory herb that has been used for centuries to treat fevers and migraines, among other ailments. One of the most promising aspects of this herb is its ability to prevent migraine attacks from happening in the first place. One study showed that participants who took feverfew daily prevented migraine attacks, while those on a placebo experienced an increase in severe headaches and nausea. (6) This shows that feverfew can indeed keep headaches at bay and is a great option if you find yourself suffering with recurring migraines.
Butterbur is another herb with anti-inflammatory properties that can help prevent migraines. Studies have shown that a daily supplement of 75 milligrams of butterbur extract can reduce migraine attacks by a whopping 45 percent in just four months. (7) This effect could be due to the ability of butterbur to regulate blood flow to the brain, relieving pressure.
3. Magnesium
Low magnesium levels could be the reason behind your recurring headaches. This critical mineral is one of the most abundant in your cells, and most of the population doesn’t get enough due to depleted soils. It helps regulate serotonin receptors and neurotransmitter release, and also works to soothe the nervous system (both functions can have an influence on headache pain).
Research has shown that magnesium deficiency is much more common in migraine sufferers than it is in others, and that supplementing orally should be a part of all migraine treatments. (8)
The most common side effect of supplementing with magnesium orally is diarrhea, but this can be avoided by reducing your dosage. If you don’t want to supplement, you can also up your magnesium by eating more leafy greens, squash, almonds, and raw cacao.
4. B Vitamins
B vitamins play a crucial role in helping your nervous system function properly while also regulating how it uses serotonin and norepinephrine. These chemicals and functions have been shown to play a role in the development of headaches, so it’s beneficial to ensure that you have adequate levels.
One study showed that a combination of vitamin B6, B12, and folic acid given to migraine sufferers resulted in fewer and less severe migraine attacks over the course of six months compared to a placebo. The B vitamin group also reported reduced migraine disability from 60 percent to just 30 percent over six months. (9)
If you suspect a B vitamin deficiency, try adding a B-complex to your supplement routine. Don’t be too worried about the dosage, since B vitamins are water soluble and the excess will be flushed out through your urine.
5. Avoid Processed Foods, Gluten, and Dairy
If you’re having recurring migraines, you might want to take a closer look at your diet. Aside from avoiding processed foods loaded with synthetic chemicals and GMOs, try dropping wheat and foods containing gluten for a few weeks.
Studies have found links between migraine headaches and celiac disease (a condition where a person cannot tolerate the gluten protein found in wheat), discovering that migraine headaches occur more often in those with celiac disease. (10) However, even if you don’t have the full-blown disease, you could still have a gluten sensitivity that triggers migraines.
Additionally, you can try eliminating dairy products, since lactose can be a major problem for many people. Substitute dairy milk for almond milk for a while and see how you feel.
6. Stress Management
There’s a reason tension headaches are one of the most common kinds. Stress and tension can bring on chronic headaches that last for days and are accompanied by tight neck and shoulder muscles.
One German study that followed participants for two years found that the more stress in a person’s life, the greater the frequency and severity of their headaches. On the flip side, those with the least amount of stress reported hardly any headaches. (11)
While it might seem difficult to decrease your stress levels, try to get into a daily stress management habit, like deep breathing exercises or 15 minutes of meditation.
If you’re not the sitting-still type, you can also try yoga, which has been found to decrease headache severity and frequency. For instance, a study out of Finland found that 60 women put in a 12-month stretching program experienced a 69 percent reduction in headache intensity. (12)
7. Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient subset of Chinese medicine that focuses on regulating the body’s proper flow of energy.
Studies have shown that acupuncture is at least as effective as prescription medications in treating and preventing migraines, and has even been found to be “more effective than standard therapy for the treatment of tension headache.” (13)
8. Hydration
It’s also important to make sure that you’re adequately hydrated, since dehydration can sometimes cause your head to throb and lead to consistent headache problems. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and consume water-rich veggies and fruits like melons and cucumbers.
How much water do you need? While the answer is different for everyone, starting with eight glasses a day or half your body weight in ounces can be a good way to gauge if you ultimately need more or less.

hellblade (the bad parts)
preface: i decided to split this into different parts what makes it bad, then good, and then a 3rd post with a little bit of spoiler and my thoughts of it (now this is coming from someone with psychosis that pretty sure dont have schizoaffective disorder even though one therapist said might have that, so i wont give my thoughts on how well the “mood disorder” part was cause i don’t adequately know) now, lets begin (a lot of these made the game take longer then i hoped) triggers: it is possible this can trigger some unwanted things self harm, suicidal ideation, abuse/child abuse, survivors guilt, slavery (fairly obvious) and plague/death/fire/crows (situational for people) eyestrain(for people like me who are sensetive to those things giving us migrains to those that are at risk of epilepsy, this was particularly shown with the fire pyres touching points, other than that it got a bit strenuous at time but overall fine), storms(hey, gotta add all my triggers) and delusions (if you have a disorder with delusions this can feed into them or add new ones) negative symptoms and cognitive defects it saddened me that they didn’t even seem to try to showcase these. now it’s true that some people with psychosis might have these to a much more limited affect (or possibly not at all, not sure on that) and it’s also true that these symptoms can sometimes seem less “visible” but i think that makes it more important to show them. just feel like a missed opportunity (most of general populus knows only of hallucinations and delusions...and this showed little more then that) the producer’s(not sure which one of them in the whole hellblade feature video in the game) veiw. that of thinking before wondering why severe mental illness like psychosis wasn’t “stamped out” by evolution (cure culture, not a fan of people without a mental illness wanting to cure it) and then he switched to the veiw that its simply people being imaginative with there own inner worlds and so its the reason for great artists and creators (this falls in line with “mad artist” trope which i am not fond with. also the link with schizophrenia and evolution is a complicated one that i might make own post about) also in that video he talked about how one of the people talked to hallucinations was sometimes world outside the center could appear like a kaleidoscope...he used to describe that overly flashy and blurry around a tree, do you not know what a kaleidoscope is! short: i took my time to enjoy a lot and played on hardest difficulty and wasnt the best and took me 10.5 hours, now i didnt get all the lorestones so replaying it to get all the acheivements. but it is still a short game and i can understand that being offputing to people despite the small price (well for me free cause no someone who likes to gift me games but not money...so asked for this) combat: even though the whole feel of getting worse and worse and more unpassable was obvious and welcome. there was simple light attack, heavy attack, nonsword melee, then running mixed with those, then blocking at right time could be used to parry for attack, and dodge, and then cause third person jump from target to target, and occasionally slow down time. now some of the enemies, particularly the bosses had interesting things they did that you had to work around (including using your hearing) and you could move in things like light attack, heavy attack and nonsword melee to do interesting things, but overall it was simply decent (still kinda fun) and last point, if you are hearing impaired in one ear i think it would have much less of an effect and i do believe choosing different languages did not allow the voices at all providing a much more blunted experience 1 minor ones het romance (i think done very well in terms of a supportive person in relationship, and i do have headcannon of a lesbian relationship in future, but can understand some people being offput by het romance) ( and very important even though the celts (who the main protagonist is) used mud or lime to “coil there hair like snakes” and senua was named after senuna which they based her looks off of, there is the worry of people cosplaying her and coming off as culturally appropriative and also there is a lot of speculation to the number of black ancient celts, so it’s entirely possible that senuna (a goddess, possible water goddess) and other celts around that region might have been black. and so making this character off of a more recently discovered ancient celtic goddess white. might be cultural erasure and whitewashing (though i am white myself so i don’t know) http://www.africaresource.com/rasta/articles/the-ancient-celts-and-vikings-were-black-people-by-dr-clyde-winters/ the pros part is taking more time so leaving it like this for now, will link to pros when its done on here

There are many benefits to having Velux windows fitted and these include; improved energy and thermal efficiency, insulation, ventilation, noise reduction, and they can also be automated so at a touch of a button they can be opened or closed, with sensors so they automatically close if it starts to rain as well as being solar powered. The windows get the power they need from the sun which allows you to open and close them automatically or with a remote control.
What type of roofs can a Velux Window be fitted in?
A Velux window can be fitted in a flat or sloped solid roof bringing in natural light and fresh air to your home or business.
What are the benefits of a Velux Window?
Improved Insulation
Even if your old roof window is in good or reasonable condition it won’t be as thermally efficient as a new Velux window as their technology and manufacturing have come on leaps and bounds. The design of a Velux window has adapted and improved over the years and they are now much more thermally efficient. You will be surprised how much warm air can escape through an older style window and you won’t feel draughts any more when you replace them. A new Velux roof window is double glazed and will keep your room warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer due to its insulated and thermal capabilities.
Thermal Efficiency
Velux windows are double glazed and have excellent thermal efficiency, ensuring the cold air doesn’t come into your property and the warm air doesn’t escape. They also ensure that the warm air in the summer doesn’t get into your home or business, therefore, keeping it cooler inside during the summer. Thermal comfort is vital at home or at work and having a thermally efficient Velux window will reduce your energy bills throughout the year.
Improved Ventilation
Ensuring your home is well-ventilated means there is less risk of condensation and problems arising from damp. Small ventilation openings in windows allow a continuous (but small) influx of fresh air from outside. The Velux vents allow a small amount of air to come in from outside and for the inside air to pass to the outside, this ensures you benefit from the fresh air without your window having to fully open. These vents will remove stale air from your property. freshen the air inside which results in better air quality and thermal comfort. Most of us spend 90% of our time indoors and it is important to breathe in ‘good’ quality fresh air.  According to DEIC, the quality of indoor air influences our:
Comfort: the pleasantness of fresh air is immediately felt when a person enters a building
Health: humidity in buildings can cause illnesses such as asthma
Performance: high-quality indoor air can improve mental performance and general health and well-being
Weather Resistant Seals
Velux windows come with weather-resistant seals ensuring the elements are kept outside, draughts are kept out and your home or business is kept warm and dry.
Increased Natural Light
The new generation VELUX roof windows are the same frame size, however, the glazing is actually bigger, resulting in more natural light entering a room. One roof window alone allows twice the natural light to enter and the benefits are huge.
Boosts vitamin D within our bodies – when we are exposed to natural light (not just direct sunlight) our skin naturally absorbs vitamin D which is a critical nutrient that prevents bone loss and reduces the risk of heart disease, weight gain, and various cancers, as well as general well-being
Wards off seasonal depression – If we live in dark and dreary rooms with no natural light it can make us feel low, tired and generally worn out. Getting as much natural light as possible helps to keep our mood changes at bay, improves our sleep and makes us feel healthier, with much more energy
Improves sleep – the more natural light we are exposed to the better quality sleep we have at night
Reduces health risks of fluorescent lighting – the more time you spend in a source of natural light, the less time you’ll spend in unnatural electric powered lighting which can cause migraines and tiredness
Velux roof windows provide high intensity, direct natural light, making your home or business feel open and airy, resulting in us feeling better and healthier every day.
Being exposed to natural daylight is associated with:
A positive attitude
Enhanced morale
Less fatigue and
Reduced eyestrain
Velux has done intensive research and launched a book providing information and recommendations, tools, metrics and codes for topics like daylighting, ventilation, thermal comfort, acoustics, energy and environment. The Basic Book on Daylight, Energy and Indoor Climate is a useful tool for those of us who are planning to have a house or extension built, or if you work in the construction and architecture industry.
UV Protection
Our bodies need vitamin D which comes from natural sunlight, however, exposing ourselves to too much UVA light from the sun is not good for our bodies and skin so modern Velux roof windows offer even more sun screening benefits than they did before.
Noise Reduction
Velux roof windows protect us from unwanted noise coming inside, they are double glazed, sealed, airtight and insulated and all of these components will make your home or business much quieter.
Cost Benefits
A Velux Skylight with integrated solar energy cells can mean that you qualify for Federal Tax Credit. Velux skylights are an investment and can reduce heating and cooling costs from the extra natural light that enters a room as well as the option to open the window for venting.
High-Tech Safety
Velux offers superior protection against the elements and the newest models have a sensor that automatically triggers the roof-light window to close when it rains. Some Velux models include a remote which allows you to open and close your roof light window when you want to. Velux windows are extremely secure to protect you from any break-ins.

Technical Specification for Velux Windows
(Techincal details are taken from velux.co.uk)
Heat Insulation – Low energy glazing provides reduced heat loss through the window and enhanced indoor comfort.
Solar Gain – In the winter, the heat from the sun entering through the window is a usable solar gain.
Solar Protection – In warm climates and in rooms with large window areas, the sun protective coating provides a better indoor climate during warmer periods. Exterior sunscreen can be installed.
Sound Insulation – A combination of laminated glass and optimal glass thickness provides better sound insulation. Their frame/sash construction and gaskets are equally important in their sound reduction.
Security – Thicker laminated inner glass pane designed to increase resistance to manual attack (burglary).
Energy Balance – The energy balance represents the ability of the roof window to utilise the passive solar gain and keep in the heat during winter and its ability to protect against the risk of overheating during summer. Sunscreen products can further improve indoor balance.
Safety – Laminated inner glass is designed to hold fragments together if the glass breaks. It is recommended that glass units with laminated glass on the inside are used for windows above where people sleep, play or work.
Outside Strength – Toughened outer glass panes make your glazing more resistant to hail, heavy wind and snow loads.
Delayed Fading – Inner laminated glass protects materials behind the glass against UV radiation and therefore delays fading of the materials.
Rain Noise Reduction – The combination of laminated glass and extra thick glass helps to provide a significant audible reduction of rainfall sound. Their frame/sash construction and gaskets are equally important in their sound reduction.
Easy to Clean – The easy to clean coating minimises the cleaning frequency of the outer glass pane and gives you a clearer view when it is raining.
Anti-dew – The anti-dew coating significantly reduces the days with dew on the outer glass pane and thus gives you a clear view.
