brows knit together in time with lips that curl to form a frown. in that moment, riley matthews looks like a concerned baby deer. head tilts to complete the look, hands anxiously wringing in her lap. she always feels a little powerless when maya is hurting, and if it was up to her, she'd shoulder all of her best friend's pain all on her own. sure, sunny riley isn't exactly made to weather those storms, but for maya? she'd do it and then some.

scooting closer, the brunette extends a hand to interlock fingers with her best friend's own. her hold is gentle, and her spare hand lays atop maya's, fingernails gentle against her tough knuckles. "well," she begins softly, "when you are, i'll be here. and i'll be here in the meantime too. i don't mind waiting."

she grins, bright and happy and ever - so - riley. she doesn't mean to be overwhelming with her cheer and pep, but sometimes she is. she can only hope now isn't one of those instances. she lifts joined hands, hugging maya's close. "you're gonna be okay, maya." she insists, nose scrunching. "i'll glue every broken piece back together each time another one crumbles."

maybe she's staring. it's a bit of a habit when it comes to peter, one that she simply can't help. or, well . . . she could, but where's the fun in that? tiny hands are clasped lovingly by her chest, head angled at a curious incline. in tink's eyes, raw adoration is abundant. little legs swing from where she's perched atop some dusty old bookshelf.

in response to his question, her head is quick to shake. golden specks of pixie dust are let loose into the air in time with blonde bangs bouncing wildly across her forehead. fingers unclasp, but only so she can raise her hands to her face, pointing with both index digits to a toothy grin that spreads across her own lips.

she can't speak. such is the eternal curse the fairy must face, which becomes especially frustrating with peter. she'd give just about anything to be able to speak freely to him. instead, she must rely on the flimsy hope of her message getting across:

there's something about her that wedges itself deep beneath his skin, perhaps even within his bones. she remains on his mind, if only because she irks him so. and yet, the fact that she remains on his mind at all irks him even more. galinda is surely no stranger to occupying someone's mind like it's a lavish high - rise in the emerald city, because she does it eerily well.

snort slips through his nose. arms are crossed firmly over his chest, and char allows his challenging gaze to sweep over the perky blonde. brows quirk, and he feigns something akin to being unimpressed. "how philosophical, miss galinda," he replies, sarcasm dripping from his words. the young prince isn't typically someone who goes out of his way to adopt an attitude, but galinda seems to be drawing exceptions out of him left and right. "you should embroider that on one of your pastel pink pillows."

lips curl to form a satisfied smile, though charmont can't deny the way a strange warmth washes over him when he gives her statement some more thought. lovers? please. as if, and yet . . . does he hate the idea as much as he wants to?

"i must be certain," he begins, holding up a finger, "are you wooing me, miss galinda? have you developed a soft spot in your prim and proper heart for me? or perhaps you are delirious courtesy of a fever. you should lie down."

[  ....  ]             ever  since  he  and  maggie  had  come  back  from  woodbury,  glenn  had  been  placing  himself  in  an  isolated  box.  he  didn't  mean  to  shut  anyone  out,  especially  maggie,  but  the  amount  of  guilt  he  that  was  consuming  him  from  the  inside  out  was  enough  to  make  him  do  rash  and  selfish  things.  he  had  been  spending  nights  alone  in  the  watch  tower,  refusing  to  sleep  or  even  go  so  long  without  eating,  all  his  thoughts  engulfed  in  the  haunting  memory  of  what  happened  to  him  and  to  the  love  of  his  life.  he  couldn't  look  at  her  ...  it  just  reminded  him  of  the  failure  that  he  was.  the  one  thing  he  was  supposed  to  do,  protect  her,  and  he  couldn't  even  do  that.  so,  there  he  sat,  in  the  watch  tower  alone  and  continued  to  stare  out  into  the  nothingness  of  the  night  all  to  avoid  confrontation.

The difference between Christmas in New York and Christmas in Texas was...astounding really. Christmas was always chaotic. Full of people and plans. Their entire extended adopted family gathering at Corey and Topanga's.

But here in Texas....things were a lot calmer. Just them, her Dad's family. Sometimes her grandparents if Katy and Shawn flew down.

She wasn't sure she liked it.

Which was why Maya would find her outside, on face time with Donnie (Donnie Minkus, Regular Best Friend) trying to arrange a rescue.

"Your grandfather has a private jet...you could be here in like three hours...."

Like her mother before her, Chelsea chose to enter the Matthews's apartment through the unlocked bay window. Now a guest room due to the kids having moved out ages ago.
