We mention this super briefly in 1x05 and 1x08, but Archie was still a baker's apprentice when he and James met! The Matcha Foccacia Incident happened post-James.

I'd really like to know how James and Archie met. Because I, personally, would have had a heart attack if I was flirting with a guy in the late 1800s and at the question "so what do you do for a living?" he told me he was a cop.
