I’ve had a few discussions recently about range set up and how I’ve set up our range. I thought I would share how my range is set up to support marked and unmarked distances. We as a club don’t have any indoor facilities so our range is outdoor and this means we need to consider how it can be used all year round. We have 2 bosses unlike other clubs that have several. We all know arrows can break, often just behind the pile for wooden arrows as show in 1st photo. This hit something hard in the target. But it's not always so obvious. Check the the 2nd picture and then 3rd. It's the same arrow. It's cracked up at the fletching, so not so easy to spot. If shot chances are it would have shattered injuring the archer and probably damaging the bow. Take some time at home or when your out shooting and check them. It's vital for all archers to check their arrows all over, whether they are wooden, bamboo, carbon or aluminium. I ran a coaching session the other week and the students were trying to emulate what thye had seen in movies and computer games. So on Sunday at the next session I set a simple task for the young students to identify the positive and any negative of photos from films. With the first couple having a lift over flap. The next ones being left blank for discussion.
