Thank you for getting me to finally try pixel art! I‘ve always wanted to get into pixel art but I never knew what to start with and always ended up procrastinating. Your blog and the post you made on learning pixel art were what finally pushed me to give it a go. It was really helpful and I managed this little animation in Libresprite.

I definitely want to improve and your art is like the ultimate goal lol. Do you have any tips or instructions for how to get better or on what to focus on in the future? I‘d appreciate any kind of criticism/input you are willing to give! How do you manage to make such gigantic and beautiful landscapes?

i hope you don't mind but i edited the sprite a little, just to illustrate some stuff

🤺Animation stuff

i added an extra frame near the top of the arc so it slows down. this is called ease or slow in/out and usually happens at the beginning and end of movements. u can do even more slow but this is just a quick version

i also removed the middle frame (where the tail is straight down) to make the swing appear a bit more powerful. this could be the principle of timing in the same video. you can exaggerate smears if you do this, its up to you!! lately i tend to exaggerate stuff a lot, things arent super noticable in motion

i also got a good bit of advice from nickwoz that helped me, basically when you begin to animate, it really puts the rest of the sprite being still into focus. try to think of how you could animate other parts of the body, even subtly. and sometimes if individual pixels stay still they can catch the eye in an unintended way as well, just keep it in mind!!

if you want to learn animation more, you could take a look at duelyst sprites, they have incredible idle and ability animations, i study them a lot

heres one i downloaded a long time ago. i recommend just downloading stuff you like and looking at it!! i have a huge collection of pixel inspo. slowing animations down can really help you understand whats going on. its just a bunch of simple elements put together that makes it look so good.

❓ how to learn: study (and practise a lot)

what i mean by study: draw it, copy it, try to understand it. you can try to change characteristics about it. changing the angle or lighting can help u understand how something works in 3 dimensions.

sometimes it takes time, dont worry, you will figure out your own style through doing studies, its all a process

❓ how to draw landscape details?

study pixel artists and how they do it recommendations: fool, slym, jubilee, deceiver

also please look at real world references!! you got to build that visual library

❓ how to learn composition?

study traditional artists or animation. i did a ton of studies of ghibli backgrounds which i think helped my growth a lot recommendations: arcane, studio ghibli, traditional painters

im gonna break down a piece as well and maybe that will help. this is one from 2022 but its still one of my most popular and its pretty simple too!!

if we remove all the fancy stuff what we have is actually really simple. just a few large, overlapping shapes that all point towards our focal point. it's the brightest area with the most contrast and many edges point into it.

go to pinterest or google and just search "pretty landscape" or "mountains" or something and you can see what i'm doing is nothing special or unique!! break it down into bigger shapes to begin with, its just different areas of material mostly.

and heres how you can make any landscape from any colours. purple sky or mountain? orange grass? ok !! it all works, it doesnt matter. i just blend the colours.

when parts of the landscape are in the distance they become closer to the sky colour as there is more "sky" in between you and it. its called atmospheric perspective. so if the sky was red, the clouds would fade towards red.

OKKK i dont know what else to say so i hope that helps!! honestly 90% of what i do is intuitive and hard for me to really explain, so you dont have to know The Rules, you just kind of pick up stuff as you go.

I think there are some people that are overly self righteous when it comes to Arcane in particular, it’s like they have missed the entire point of the show. It’s tiring and disappointing. And it’s so much worse when a sapphic couple is involved.

Like when it comes to CaitVi, people are so critical and striving for an impossible “perfection”. I always see antis being like “well Cait is a cop! I can never support it”, “the jail scene was so icky”, “Cait should have apologized this way.” We give so many passes to heterosexual couples and m/m ships than f/f ships. People really need to pay attention to the context of the show , especially when it comes to subtle details in animation. Also like you said, relationships can be messy and unhealthy at times but that doesn’t define it for the long term. They made that clear about Caitlyn and Vi tbh.

Truly people are so self righteous and pretentious. Like no you're not morally better than anyone because you don't like the fictional "cop ship"(as if a million of these dont exist for m/f). People truly did miss the point of the narrative and Cait's role in being an enforcer. A character can be a cop without the show being copaganda.(this got long thank you for the ask)

But if these people lack so much cognitive thinking that every show that involves a cop is copaganda then maybe there is no hope. Truly missing the entire narrative. A story is being told, how about stop thinking you're better than people because you think you're above it all and start actually viewing the media in front of you??

The standards that people put on f/f relationships gets so exhausting. Just because the show didn't unravel in the way they would want in some fanfiction then they deem it bad or unsatisfactory. Or suddenly the character is ooc. Actually I don't think alot of these people know the characters. They've just created a version of these characters in their own head.

Fandom has gotten into the habit of labeling everything "toxic". Like no it's not toxic. They handled real emotions poorly. They made bad decisions in the face of battling said emotions. No Cait/Vi isn't toxic or abusive. People who say they are an example of domestic violence... please for the love look up and learn what domestic violence is.

A moment of physical assault does not necessarily equate to abusive. The two can be mutually exclusive. Please read the narrative in front of you.

I don't know what moral grand standing people think they're achieving but I promise the only thing they'll be achieving is continuing to reduce the f/f representation we get on screen. Why do m/f relationships get to be bumpy and have their ups and downs but f/f have to check off every perfectionist and purist box.

Let f/f be complex. Let f/f relationships that exist in complex universes be complex. Let there be moments that they regret because they lashed out because of their emotions. Let female characters be well rounded.

Speaking of details of animation. This show is so richly crafted, there's so much put into the facial expressions and posture and everything. This is visual media people. Please learn to take in the full picture this is not an audio book or podcast. Watch with your eyes please.

Speaking of giving m/f a pass, i love timebomb but nobody says they're toxic or talks about how jinx was terrible to ekko and the firelights. They got one au episode and suddenly forget all that happened before then? Nobody is begging for an apology there. Nobody is talking about how jinx could've killed them both on the bridge. Or how they had little interaction outside of those scenes if any.

Caitvi is deemed rushed or unsatisfying but they had to pull in an au episode/timeline for ekko to reach out to jinx. People say Vi only arc is in Caitlyn(guess we forgot about vander and jinx--again over simplifying a character story just because it's not what they wanted to see), but what was ekko arc at the end?

I'd be fine if people were giving the same energy across the board but no. Once again we are here watching people tear down a f/f ship.

"We deserve better" bitch China won't even let the girls talk to each other on screen and rest their head on each other's shoulders. Get a grip.

ARCANE SEASON 2 ARC 3 SPOILERS‼️‼️

I noticed this while watching episode 7: “Pretend like its the first time”, not that small of a detail but:

(I’m sorry if it is incoherent i just really needed to get this out.)

During the innovative party scene where Ekko dances with Powder, the song that plays is ”ma meilleure ennemie” by Stromae & Pomme, which translates to ”my best (female) enemy” which clearly refers to Powder, or Jinx.

In the intro begins a small chant where they say

Je t’aime, je t’attends […]

Meaning “ i love you, i am waiting for you” which clearly explains Ekko before coming to terms that Jinx no longer is Powder, since he fell inlove with Powder he keeps waiting for Powder to come back. This mental dilemma of having to accept that even if its the same body, same face its not the same person anymore, which is later supported by the first chorus where Stromae sings

La pire des bénédiction, La plus belle des malédictions

“The worse of all blessings, the best of all curses”, Powder was the best thing that happened to him while Jinx was the worse thing which makes this relationship with her- this connection, both a blessing and a curse.

But what made the scene more interesting was when they danced and the part

Mais ma meilleure ennemie, c'est toi [but my best enemy, that is you.]

Fuis-moi, le pire, c'est toi et moi [flee from me, the worse is you and i]

Mais si tu cherches encore ma voix [but if you keep searching for my voice]

Oublie-moi, le pire, c'est toi et moi [forget me, the worse is you and i]

I know we all wanted Ekko to stay in that timeline and be happy with Powder but remember season 1 where- whilst every Jinx or Vi centric episodes always began with a flashback, the Ekko centric one started from the present. Indicating that Ekko forces himself to always look forward than trying to let the past get to him. For exempel in - please correct me if i’m wrong, season 1 episode 5 when Vi said that she should’ve been there to help Ekko, he only says ”that’s is a good way to drive yourself crazy”. He immidiantly shut down any thought of what could’ve been, indirectly forcing Vi to think about the present. Especially afterwards when Vi talks about getting Powder back when Ekko has already fully acknowledge that there is only Jinx. All of this makes him being in that timeline more difficult for him since it is exactly what he wanted to avoid, being stuck in what could’ve been.

Dancing with Powder just engraves this furthee into him, this is unhealthy for Ekko since it’s the relation ship between him and Jinx. As to reiterate ”if you keep searching for Powder’s, voice, stop, it will just drive you crazy”

Also to refer to the pre-chorus!

First one:

Tu sais c'qu'on dit [you know what they say]

Additionally, before the kiss scene where Ekko says “can we pretend like it’s the first the first time”, further insinuates the whole, “this is my present even thought it’s a part of your past”.

I know it is not a small detail and not that significant but i really wanna acknowledge how every part of the Arcane series have a significance into the story. And honestly i needed to vent. It was so fun last night watching the scene and hearing ”le pire, c’est toi et moi” and just go ”oh, word?”. I am not French but i studied it so it just felt good from that POV too.

Arcane Competitive Dance AU

i dont think you realize that i CRAVE comp. dance au's down to the bone as a former comp. dancer so HERE IS MY BRAIN CHILD!!!

we start off pretty basic, with the City of Greater Piltover essentially split into two main area, New Piltover and Zaun. within the two main areas lies two dance studios, both well known and well loved in their respective communities. for the amount of time the studios have been open, the have had a sort of "rivalry" within it's leaders (dw the kids are mostly chill with eachother). this brings us to the main bones of the au!!

Zaun Dance Movement (ZDC)

run by co-owners and partners Vander and Silco Lane-Shimmerson

they do a lot of community work within Zaun since it's mostly lower class

they are known for their insane Hip Hop routines that are highly inspired by Zaunite break-dancing as well as their acro routines

they offer an affordability fund program for people who are interested in dance but the cost can be too high for the household

for the recreational program they offer the general classes such as ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, acro, musical theatre and open, as well as holding classes for adults, low-impact for the elderly, and adaptive movement for anyone with a mental or physical ability

they are known for being a family friendly and community based studio

has a KILLER fundraising team omg like genuinely so good they raise so much for comp season

Piltover Dance Corps (PDC)

founded by Cecil Himerdinger (trust me on this guys-)

PLEASE SHARE ART TIPS

Art tips have arrived <3

1. Sketch from real life, this means sitting down and taking 20 minutes to sketch what’s on your desk or the view outside your window. Work loosely and inaccurately at first but then slowly start to focus more on the details.

2. Learn to see the shapes that build up an object or creature. Work on something that is small and relatively simple like a cube or cylinder at first and then slowly work up to animal legs, planes of the face, or human anatomy.

3. I highly recommend adding diversity to your work! try and include a variety of styles, body types, races, features and cultures! This can ONLY improve your art as you’re learning how to work with different shapes and colors. The only thing to consider with this tip, is that if you are going to depict real people or cultures (whether directly or indirectly) you need to research and make sure you’re doing so in a respectful way!

4. If you like a certain creators artwork and you want your art to look like theirs find a small part of their art and try to fit it into your own style, for example, the way that the show arcane shades the eyes, or the way that into the spiderverse uses small dots and lines to add texture.

5. TRACE TRACE TRACE! trace 3d models, photos you’ve taken, reference images. it’s totally fine to trace as long as you’re being legal and professional about it by this I mean DONT TRACE OTHER ARTISTS WORK unless you have permission! You are free to trace my work and even use it as a reference image or a compositional reference if you’d like!

6. Draw for yourself and no one else! Take the time to create projects or pieces simply bc you want to. Don’t let people pressure you into sharing your work if you don’t want to, and remember that your creative work has inherent value no matter how ‘good’ it is.

7. Art can be so many different things and it is a tool that you can manipulate to your liking. If you’re unhappy with how your art looks, try drawing something in the opposite of how you usually draw it. If your current style has highly stylized features, see what happens if you try and draw the features smaller.

8. Don’t throw out your earliest art! You’ll wanna look back on all your progress! I still have my first sketchbook ever and boy howdy is it such a jump from then to now. It’s quite encouraging to look through how much you’ve improved!

Caitvi rp search!

Hi yall!! With my winter break around the corner and my heart crushed from finishing arcane s2, I’ve been recently itching to do a caitvi roleplay!

For some background, I’ve been writing for probably 7+ years now and I can write anywhere from a few hefty paragraphs to hitting the discord character limit a couple times LOL, generally speaking, the more the better for me! However, I am in fact a full time student with a job so I definitely don’t take this rule as seriously as I used to; there’s only so much time to write after all. But PLEASE no one liners or short paragraphs, I can’t work with that!

I try to respond at most once or twice a day, or at least a couple times a week (depending on length and schedule)

I have no limits or triggers, so I am open to just about anything within reason. With that said I’d also like to stick to canonverse plots if possible but if you have any ideas I’m always down to hear them! I’m all good with dark themes and nsfw but please let me know if you have any limits of your own!

I dont have much of a preference for writing as either Cait or Vi, but admittedly this will be my first time writing for arcane, so I may come to learn who I’m more comfortable with/better at over time 😅 but for now I’m open to being either!

(Also just a note, I’m only a fan of the show and not LoL incase that is an important factor for you! My knowledge of LoL extends only to the arcane series I fear)

meguru and isagi's moms offered to drive you three to the arcade because the mall they were going to was awfully close to it. ''gosh.. seeing meguru go out with his friends like this.. makes my heart soft.'' yu's eyes almost water as her hands trembled on the steering wheel. ''mom, don't cry please.'' meguru told his mom, almost feeling embarrassed as his figure only sank further in the seat. you knew bachira was a talented individual and you didn't quite understand what his mom had just said.

isagi looked like he knew this feeling all too well. ''there's nothing to be embarrassed about, meguru.'' isagi's mom butt in as she turned her head to look at the three of you fighting over even just a space to breathe easily in. ''i remember isagi also never been the social butterfly like his dad was. the friends he only ever took home were the soccer team.'' i let out a small laugh as i saw the neon-lit arcade from the road. ''here should be fine, thank you so much for- meguru!'' meguru had already opened the door and dashed inside the arcade.

isagi waited for you to finish your farewells and bid his mom a quick ''goodbye, mom'' too. bachira's mom rolled down the window to give us three a small wave and drove away. meguru looked like a ticking time bomb while looking at what was inside of the arcade. people were scattered everywhere and no space wasn't filled with rainbow blinding lights that only enticed bachira further.

your almost popped out of their sockets once they landed on the bright rainbow glowing sign on top of the building. you weren't the type to go around and hang out at places and waste away the time you could use to be more productive. but since meguru and isagi kindly invited you to hang out together outside bluelock. ''c'mon, y/n! it'll be fun, promise.'' bachira grabs you by your hand and drags you inside of the building to go explore. isagi follows behind and gives you a small smile of reassurance.

''yeah, it would be more worth it to spend all your time outside of bluelock having fun, right?'' you three spot a basketball game and a bumper car area. safe to say, you three almost got kicked out 6 times already.

HI!!! Welcome! I'm quite the nervous wreck sometimes, so I apologize ahead of time if your interactions with me are awkward. I have autism, ADHD, and depression, which can be hard to deal with, and is also often the reason why I am slow on making things. And also why I am so passionate about everything I do. I was also recently diagnosed with OSDD, so if I ever seem off or not myself, then uh. Whoopsies. I am also very jumpy and really suck at reading people I don't feel the vibes with immediately! I got into MOTHER around July of 2019 when I was 15. It has brought out a lot of joy into me and has shaped the way that I am today! I've been creating content for MOTHER since August 2019, but most of it is private and archived. I have gone under multiple aliases, but Tanehineri is the one that has stuck and resonated the most, being the Japanese name for Tanetane island. The 'j' in my name is actually supposed to be pronounced the way you would a 'j' in Spanish, actually!

While MOTHER is no longer a main interest, I am not afraid to say it's my special interest! Whenever I am running out of things to think or create about, the series is there to give me something to occupy my time. I have multiple takes and headcanons, and I'm always open to hear and share my interpretations of these games with other people, so don't be afraid to ask me for my takes on certain aspects!

blood trickles down his arm , it is not his. it pools in his shirt , it has recolored his shirt. it weighs down his boots , it belongs to them. the bodies lay scattered throughout the room. blood splatter paints the walls. the three men lay in distorted poses , legs and arms bent in unnatural ways , exposed bones scattered throughout. eyes watch the seemingly endless stream , a single droplet at a time. leaving this place in an endless state of danger. of heightened awareness ; one he seems all too preoccupied with. heavy ragged breathing echoes throughout the empty mansion , the heavy steps of boots as he staggers forward , exhausted , smear blood as they go , dampening the noise. feral noises leave the mans mouth as he spits out an arcane mixture of blood and saliva , both of which are not uniquely his own. it's instinct that drives him , not the importance of what he has done , but the routine of it all. he needs to clean up this mess , he needs to get rid of the blood stains on the hardwood floor , the he needs to just do it. just move , just act , his body feels so heavy. how much collateral damage this time ? or were they complicit members of the crimes as well ? his brain doesn't know where to draw the line anymore. the line has long since been erased.

fingertips find their way to rake sweat out of dirty hair , leaving a trail of blood in their wake , the dark think liquid clings to soft blonde hair. and just as the man begins to relax , a strange sensation comes over him at a single noise , the door creaks downstairs. who's here ? what could anyone possibly want with an old mutant oil tycoon and his family on a wednesday night ? the marine grabs his rifle with little care , barrel scratching against the wooden floor as he slowly makes his way to the staircase , echoing in the halls and rooms as he goes like sharp notes of an untuned piano. a swift sweep down to pick up the bayonet on the floor with his free hand. when he makes it to the stairs rifle lifts into position , fixed bayonet at the end , he's tired , any trained professional can see it in his shoulders , in his eyes , but that doesn't make him any less deadly. any less trained. his position is perfectly manicured from years of practice , his sheer size is intimidating enough , his presence a top the stairs would have been a death sentance for anyone... save the dark curly hair that emerges from the darkness. eyes find eyes faster than he'd like to admit and the rifle waivers for just a moment. a distraction , a hallucination , he hadn't told her he was coming. she had no way of knowing he'd be here. how could she ? unless she'd be keeping tabs on him , unless she didn't trust him anymore.

the realization that follows causes the rifle to drop to the floor , the loud metal clang echoes in the empty mansion , sound bouncing and growing against hundred year old acoustics... she didn’t trust him. eyes that had warmed at her entrance begin to grow cold , matching the rotting interior of the person they belong to. he steps forward , unarmed , a death sentence in her presence. the rifle on the ground then , of course , remains within reach. ❝ anita... anita its me. it's huckleberry. ❞ eyes land on the weapon in her hand and a cold shiver runs down his spine , she wasn't here for his prey , she was here for the hunter. she had come for him , after years of understanding one another , like it was nothing. like he was nothing. his voice grows angry , agitated by the fact that he sees only hatred in her eyes when his own are overrrun with love and pain. ❝ put your fuckin' weapon down anita , it's just me , this ain't no fucking princess rodeo , stop playing around. ❞ a pause , eyes flicker between her expression and the executionary weapon , ❝ i dont want to hurt you. ❞ another step forward. he gets down on his knees ( the rifles closer now ) but he looks like he's begging , the way he feels he is. ❝ anita please , what's wrong ? what's happened ? let me help you. ❞ tell me what to do , so that i don't have to shoot.
