chapter two of nobody's soldier is up! (my arcane hunger games au <3) this chapter is baby caitvi!!! a lil snippet:

“Never had cake before?” Caitlyn asks, mumbling around her own bite. A touch of icing sticks to her cheek. It’s cute as hell. Vi makes a note to tell her before they enter the reaping. She imagines that: Caitlyn walking up to the podium with pink icing on her face. She’d never be taken seriously.

The screen shifts to footage of a fancier town square. Filled with cleaner people, in more expensive clothes. The camera zooms in on the presenter, as they open a slip of paper identical to the one which had sealed Vi’s fate. But instead of detached interest, his face morphs into one of undeniable shock. The presenter shakily declares: “Caitlyn Kiramman!”

The footage picks up the murmurs of the crowd.

The screen blurs as the camera quickly turns, focusing on a couple sitting on stage. The man gasps in shock, and clutches at the arm of the woman sitting next to him, who is wearing an equal expression of abject horror. 

 What the fuck? She shuffles a bit closer.

Then - finally - the camera shifts to a girl. The utter shock - and fear - in her eyes is captured pretty perfectly.

Vi watches through the TV - which is somehow now only a foot from her face - as the girl holds her chin high, walking through the muttering crowd and mounting the stairs to the podium. The man surges from his chair - oh, that must be her dad - and grabs her. He’s saying something the film doesn’t catch, but Vi does watch as the girl shakes her head over and over again. She removes his hands from her shoulders before turning to face the crowd stonily.

Nobody volunteers.

The 34th Hunger Games

Vi [17] + Mylo [15] - District 6

* Powder and Ekko were called during the Reaping, but Mylo and Vi volunteered for them.

* The rules that year allowed for two people from any district to win. Vi vowed it would be her and Mylo.

* Silco was their mentor, a sick joke made by the game makers, as he was one of the two kids' adoptive fathers. He told them to lean into the tragic siblings act to pull at the Capitol's heartstrings. It worked, and they gained a good number of sponsors.

* During training, Vi and Mylo sparred with one another and kept to themselves and Silco. Vi scored a seven, and Mylo scored a five.

* When the day came, Silco hugged his kids tightly and told them to be smart and stay alive.

DAY 1

When they rose up into the arena, they had a few seconds to take everything in. The Arena was cold and concrete, but there were two exits leading out of the buildings into melting snow. Vi and Mylo were next to each other, and when the bell sounded, Vi yelled for Mylo to run. Mylo ran and hid while Vi headed towards the cornucopia. She managed to come out with a backpack and a hatchet. She met up with Mylo, who was hiding behind a concrete platform, and the two of them ran away from the cornucopia. The bloodbath killed six tributes. As the two of them kept running, they spotted a girl getting killed by a pack of tributes. They must be the careers. Her canon sounds, and it startles Mylo, causing him to trip. Vi makes the decision to camp out in an empty sewage drain for the night. The both of them stayed up all night, listening to the tribute to the fallen, but after that, no more canons fired.

Seventeen tributes remain.

Day 2

That morning, Mylo and Vi took turns watching for threats while talking about their game plan. Two canons fired in the otherwise quiet air. The rest of the morning is uneventful, but that afternoon, a frightened tribute stumbles upon them. He throws his hands up, yelling about a truce and safety in numbers. The two of them reluctantly agreed. So, the three of them stayed there until they heard talking. The tribute, Zach, peeked out of the tunnel and declared it the careers. Mylo and Vi panicked. They haven't faced the careers yet, but they knew how vicious they could be. Zach panicked and ran, but he didn't get far as one of the careers shot an arrow at him, hitting him in the leg. Vi and Mylo watched in terror as the careers surrounded him, mocking his pain and refusing to kill him. They asked if anyone else was there, and Zach pointed to the tunnel. Vi cursed and told Mylo to run. The two of them made it out of the tunnel and away from the careers. Zach wasn't so lucky, as the two of them heard his plea for mercy before it stopped and a canon fired. They kept running and found an old building, but they accidently disturbed a yellowjackets nest. Thankfully, neither of them were stung. They found a place on a rooftop and decided to camp there for the night. Only, it snowed that night, so they had to camp out in the staircase. No more canons were fired.

Fourteen tributes remain.

DAY 3

Vi and Mylo decided to take turns keeping watch while the other slept. So they were able to get a few hours of rest each before the sunrise. They were hungry and needed food. The pack Vi got from the cornucopia didn't have much food in it. Only a protein bar and a flask of distilled water. Vi split the bar for her and Mylo, and then she split the water, each of them taking a sip. Mylo suggested getting a view of everything from the rooftop since the sun was out and they could see better. Vi agreed, and the two of them stepped into the chilly morning air. Fresh snow covered the roof, and a crunching sound was made every time they took a step. They looked out to see a variety of coyotes, possums, birds, and raccoons scavenging around. Vi mentions taking one of them out and eating them. Mylo shakes his head, telling her they could be poisoned. Vi sighed and said that was a risk they would have to take. Unless they want to die from starvation. Mylo disagreed and said they could get food another way. He suggested going back to the cornucopia and swiping some food from there. Vi agreed but told him they needed to be careful. On their way back to the cornucopia, they heard a canon fire. When the two made it back to the cornucopia, two career tributes were there. Apparently, they had the same idea. Vi told Mylo that she'd distract them and that he should swipe the food. He said that was a stupid idea, but Vi didn't listen. She called out to the careers and got their attention. Mylo scoffed but ran to the other end of the cornucopia and noticed some apples and dried meat. He was careful as he snuck up and got four apples and two packages of meat. He spotted two bottles of distilled water and took those, too. When he made it out of the cornucopia, the other tribute spotted him and threw a knife at him. Luckily, he missed, and Mylo was able to run away, calling for Vi, who stabbed the tribute she was fighting and ran to him. The knife throwing tribute threw a couple more knifes at them as they ran, but missed both times. They were able to make it safely to a drainage pipe just as a canon fired. They assume it's the tribute Vi stabbed, and they would be proven right that night when the tribute to the fallen plays in the night sky. Vi and Mylo huddle together to stay warm, as this was the coldest night they've faced so far. They heard a beeping coming from nearby and saw that it was a tiny parachuted box. When they opened it, there was a flint and steel with a note from Silco.

Stay warm, my loves. Silco.

Vi and Mylo cheered silently and made their way into a nearby building, building a small fire from scraps. They ate and drank water by the warm fire before extinguishing it and deciding to sleep. Mylo took the first shift.

Twelve tributes remain.

DAY 4

That morning, Mylo was startled awake by two booms from the canons. Vi shushed him and told him that they were okay. The two of them, whether it was safer to stay in the building or to keep moving. They didn't have time to come to a decision before they heard a growling behind them. A coyote with foam spilling from its mouth stalked towards them. Vi lifted the hatchet and told Mylo not to make any sudden movements. She told him that they needed to walk out of there, slowly. Mylo listened but whispered to her that he was right about them being poisoned. She laughed softly and told him that she was glad he thought of that. Despite then facing a rabid coyote, she was glad Mylo was still his old, annoying self. The wolf lunged at them, and Vi brought the hatchet down, hitting the coyote twice and killing it. Mylo mentioned that he hoped Powder and Ekko weren't watching. Vi agreed. The rest of their day goes by uneventful, no canon fire either. Everyone must be camping out. So they have no reason to be on the move, well, not yet, anyway. They decide to rest up. The night goes by uneventful and quiet.

Ten tributes remain.

DAY 5

That morning, both of them are awake when the sunrises, but there is no feeling of peace. Harrowing screams fill the morning air. Three canon fires can be heard echoing through the concrete jungle. Vi and Mylo look to each other, but neither have any idea what's going on. Maybe it's the careers. But there's two more canon booms. There's no way a human is killing that fast. Especially since the screams haven't stopped. Vi urges Mylo to run up the buildings staircase, hoping to reach high enough ground to assess the situation. As they make their way up, they hear a cacophony of raspy groaning behind them. They turn around to see the rotted corpses of the dead tributes. Vi's heart feels like it drops out of her chest, and Mylo stumbles, catching himself on the concrete step. He looked at Vi, tears in his eyes and confusion painting his face. Vi needed to hold it together, for Mylo. They only had a hatchet, and the threat was too big to risk their lives. Vi ushered Mylo up the stairs, but he said they should run out the other exit. Vi asked why, but he urged that now wasn't the time for questions and pulled her along with him to the door. Once they made it far enough away from the building, they rested on a mound of cinder blocks, catching their breaths. Neither of them could really speak. Both of them are too busy trying to process what they just saw. There's another scream and another boom. Vi mentions a need to look for shelter, but Mylo suggests they may get trapped if they do so. Vi mentions other tributes, and Mylo argues that they're not as big of a threat as the monsters that wiped out half of them. Vi grunts, frustrated, not necessarily at Mylo, but at the situation. A few silent minutes pass when Mylo suggests making a fort with the cinder blocks. That way, they won't get trapped but have some cover. Vi tells him it's a good idea and they begin building. The rest of the night, there's nothing out of the ordinary, and no monsters approach them, either. Vi and Mylo realize it's gonna be a sleepless night.

Four tributes remain.

DAY 6

Mylo and Vi are startled by a rumbling. They look out to see a large avalanche coming from a snow-covered mountain in the distance. The two ran, hoping to find higher ground. They were driven back to the cornucopia, along with the other two tributes. Both of them were careers. The rumbling stopped, but the avalanche blocked them in the building. The only way out is to win. One of the careers, the boy from two, rushes at Mylo, who didn't have a weapon, but he was quick and used the backpack to knock the boy off his feet. He ran into the cornucopia, hoping to find a weapon. Meanwhile, Vi was dealing with the district four girl, who was armed with a trident and seemed to be very skilled with it. Vi was able to dodge her attacks and managed to slice the girl's torso. She doubled over in pain, and Vi brought the hatchet down on the girl, hitting her shoulder. She pleads for mercy, and Vi hesitates. Hot tears stream down her freezing face. She feels frozen, unable to move, and she can only stare at the girl lying on her side, cradling her stomach, failing to keep her intestines in. Vi doubles over and vomits at the sight, falling to her knees and sobbing. The stress of everything finally caught up to her. She doesn't even register Mylo calling out to her until the girl's pained cries stop. She looks up to see Mylo kneeling over her, his face and body covered on blood and cuts and his eyes wide with mortification. She reaches for Mylo and hugs him as they cry. The district boy can be heard sobbing and grunting in pain. Mylo cries harder. When the final two canons sounded, the thrity-fourth Hunger Games was officially over.

Who knows if I'm going to finish this series.

Silco is less of an asshole

The Heart of Zaun by 1ts_Br1tney_B1tch 8/ chapters. WIP.

or: Silco try to rally the Firelights to his cause (in this case, Zaun - he's much more involved in doing better for his city than in the show) but of course they're bound to have some..tension between them, since they hate him - and Shimmer. (it has the good parent Silco tag so i'd say that all in all, this Silco is a little less...Silco than in Arcane, but manage to keep some of the bite he has in canon...) i only read 2 chapters, and what i can say is that it does a good job with the general cast, the interactions between Silco/Ekko-Firelights are believable, i think the one thing that could have weird me out is the way Silco is said to be 'proud' of the Firelights in the summary (for me 'pride' is something he'd reserve for Jinx yk?? anyway i stop the rambling) . The Timebomb relationship has more or less the same push and pull as in the show, with Ekko thinking about the girl Jinx used to be/ Ekko being a link to the past before Jinx and all that entail...so yeah, i'm loving it!

Powder doesnt become Jinx

ABO/Reverse AU where Powder doesnt become Jinx and is raised by Viktor, Ekko is taken in by Silco. btw i dont read a lot of abo fic (im very nickpick) but this one does every characters justice, and actually dwelve in depth in the abo universe.. (everything by typewriter is good to be honest, but my favorite thing is how they write Powder, who even when she doesnt become Jinx, is still shaped by a very violent world/trauma and it shows through her mental health issues and very, very low self worth/need to prove herself. )

Timebomb centric rewrite of Arcane, Jinx is Powder, she doesnt fall under Silco's hand (or in his arms precisely), Ekko is Ekko, and 1, i need to hug Powder, 2 she deserves the world and 3 the characterization of everyone, everyone is so brillantly written and the timebomb relationship (damn even the CaitVi one too) oh, the timebomb of it all... they feel so, so real and it hurts, Powder's insecurities, her mental illness, her guilt, her need to prove herself but in same time she doesnt feel herself worth of anything (or anyone) good... just.read it. read it, because i just did, after like 2 years of not doing that and. im like mad bc why didnt i??? but in same time so grateful to just discover it now, taking my sweet little time reading it; it rewinded my brain its amazing, (like this work in another fandom, the first time i read this rebelcaptain's fic A Love song by skitzofreak - did i just linked it for you to read even tho its a timebomb rec post??? yes. yes i did. thats how much i love, adore, worship this one guys - so everything's better made me think a lot of this TB fic, and also of RC (the abandonment issues, thinking that you have to leave first before everyone leave you, Jyn and Powder damn).

you know how everyone make the comparaison between Ekko and Miles?? well, the author found a way for Ekko transform into a spiderman that feels right in the arcane verse (end of act1) and damn its so good. Ekko slowly morphing and gaining his powers while everyone still have some focus on them (mostly Powder), but it still manages to keep the suspense of the fate of other characters. fabulous. author note: [I have seen so many comparisons between Ekko and Miles and a lot of fanart. So it felt that I had to do this. I can't promise future chapters right now (busy), but I am eager to see if this inspires any stories with a similar premise.]

Ekko's pov -i only read 1 chapter - we see his thought's process on his relationship with Powder AU/ Jinx, and how he came to the conclusion he must go back to her. the moment where he help Jinx with his Z-drive comes a little differently than in ep8 (well, the aftermath) aaand another fic where Jinx's grief over Isha's death shatters me, the pain and the self loathing/blaming from Jinx really devastating.

I dont believe in God, but i believe you're my savior by mquesterminds One shot. Rated T

[summary: every time Ekko has to rewind time to stop Jinx it cuts to a different moment from throughout their love story because I'm allergic to happiness the moments covering their shared past really make their present 10 times sadder.]

all the 6 timebomb one shot by atabex (the other fics are not timebomb) they're all rated E and oh boy is it worth it. most of these oneshot are gut wrenching and do smut + characters so well... the most recent one is just Ekko and AU Powder ahem doing the boombayah on the rooftop, but yk, with bits of sad and tragedy here and there.

just wrote the first chapter of the arcane hunger games fic

@smoozie okay!!!!! i just finished figuring out every hermits godly origin so.

the basic premise of the AU is that every single hermit is a god, or a being of similar power (except for Xisuma, who didn't intend to be admin of a server of mostly gods and DOESNT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS HAPPENED TO HIM GODDAMNIT.) together, they make up a pantheon thats occasionally worshiped by members of other servers, which some of them lean into and others find very, very uncomfortable. It's also a "being worshiped makes you more powerful" setting so there's that.

specifics as to their origins:

BDubs - A living saint of the sun and its light. Inherits some small amount of divine power from this, and says that this makes him a god. The other gods, especially Gem (who helped to grant him this power) think this is very cute of him.

Beef - A semi-omniscient demigod who mostly acts in service of other, greater gods. His latest patron is Big Salmon, a "higher power" that he claims controls the concepts of the water, consequences, and commerce.

Cleo - All Cleos across the multiverse have been left in mental contact with each other after the Time Witch's ritual. They form a powerful network between them, altogether controlling the flow of time and space across the servers they intersect with.

Cub - Through blood sacrifice, poorly understood magic, and worship of Vex gods, rendered himself functionally immortal. This was a science experiment for him, but he'll take immortality if it's what the end result comes to.

Doc - Achieved code-warping levels of power after the successful slaying of a Developer in single combat. Xisuma frequently enlists his help in keeping the server stable, because surprise surprise, 26 gods in the same place of vastly different origins makes the code a bit unstable.

Etho - Shapeshifting trickster god. Old, though not the oldest member of the server. Sometimes claims that he's following a script handed down by beings above him, though most other members of the server think he's saying that to dodge responsibility for his mischief.

False - False and her sister Symmetra were natural-born deities, worshiped as counterparts. False is worshiped as goddess of victory, art, and the water, while Symmetra is worshiped as goddess of defeat, industry, and the earth. False hasn't seen her sister in hundreds of years, and over time their worshipers combined their iconography into a single god.

Gem - Gem is a dimension-hopping, shapeshifting celestial being with domain over nature and sunlight. She pretends not to know what other members of the server are talking about when they bring this up, and mostly uses her powers for LARP purposes.

Grian - Watcher. Has claimed the server as his own, and thus sustains himself on high-intensity emotions of its occupants. To sate this hunger, he regularly starts wars, games, and other server events.

Hypno - A mage who ascended to demigod status through feats of arcane prowess. Longstanding enemies, dating back to their mortal days, with Wels. Their feud has become more amicable recently, thank god.

Impulse - He and Tango have the same origin, having ascended as part of the Rule Our World challenge they were placed into. After the forces of the universe were done subjecting them to whatever whims crossed their minds, Impulse became the embodiment of achievement and industriousness, while Tango became the embodiment of chaos and games.

Iskall - Part of the first group of players that Developers ever made. Escaped the purge of the first players, and has been dimension-hopping and stealing power from different servers ever since. Technically still mortal, but has been alive longer than any of the other server members.

Jevin - A demigod, and champion of the demigod Wels. Jevin was granted some of Wels's power under the condition that he helped Wels bother Hypno, which Jevin is more than okay to do. When he's not using divine power to prank Hypno, he's using it to prank everyone else.

Joe - Has, on separate occasions, claimed to be both "the most powerful of the Hermits" and "just an average guy." When pressed on what made him more powerful than the gods and eldritch beings he kept as company, Joe just smiled and said "I'm Joe Hills, recording as I always do in Nashville, Tennessee." Nobody knows what this means.

Joel - Joel Thundercheeks of Stratos, an 11-foot tall deity of lightning, lore, and the skies. His abrasive personality and tendency to throw power around made some question whether he should be invited, but Gem and Pearl advocated for him hard. He's used to being the only god around, so he's a bit surprised that throwing his power around doesn't always work now.

Keralis - Fragment of an eldritch being, and the conduit through which most of its power expresses itself. Bridges dimensions, and travels through time as easily as it does space. Unclear whether he is aware of any of this.

Mumbo - Was a mortal, though he has rendered himself immortal through animancy. His own soul is bound inside of a golden heart inside of his S7 base, and he has supplemented it with a fragment of Grian's, making him part-Watcher.

Pearl - Santa Perla, goddess of flowers, the harvest, the summer solstice, and the noonday sun. Thought she was mortal until the Empires crossover, when she remembered her past queendom. Her life force is tied to the lands she cultivates, so she has taken careful effort to ensure all her bases are verdant and flourishing.

Ren - One day declared himself "the king of all gods" despite not having been a god before this. None of the other Hermits were particularly willing to challenge him on this since it seemed harmless. Somehow, though, news of it spread, and he has established a fairly thorough following across other servers as a god of leadership, trade, travel, and theater.

Scar - Ate God. Which one? He never elaborates. Oh, sure, he'll go into detail about, say, the recipe he used to cook God, but ask him which God he ate, or how he killed it first, and he just brushes right past it. His power can't be denied, though, so he must be telling the truth.

Skizz - Suffused with Withering Energy, and acts as a bringer of doom and despair because of it. Oh, sure, he's a really nice and supportive guy, and everybody loves him, but also things tend to collapse around him in dramatic and spectacular fashion. Hermitcraft has only survived because of the power of 25 other gods crushing any disaster before it happens.

Stress - Goddess of hope, beauty, and love. Unfortunately, she was cursed a long time ago by Iskall when they first met, adopting a monstrous form, which is worshiped as a deity of doom, evil, and hate. He's been very apologetic about it since and offered to help her reverse the curse, but she's overall very happy with the state of things. They've become very close friends.

Tango - See Impulse. Unlike most gods, who become more powerful the more they're worshiped, Tango draws power directly from the souls of those who perish inside his games, which has made him somewhat giddy about the concept of death in general.

Wels - A knight and folk hero who ascended to demigod status from the pure gratitude of those who he saved. Considered a patron of justice and protection. Over the years, he's become bored with this, and gotten into quite a bit of mischief. See also Jevin and Hypno.

XB - A mortal godkiller. He ruthlessly hunts gods outside the server in order to make them answer for their crimes against mortals. Within the server, he also occasionally kills the others, just for funsies.

Zed - Avatar of Death. Controls the process of respawning, though he often gets so distracted that he forgets to actually pay attention to it, leaving some players in limbo for quite a while before he remembers he has to pay attention to their souls.
