The Arcana Hot Take #2:

Asra not showing the reader that he's sad or upset whenever you choose someone else feel underwhelming

Maybe I just like angst. I know Asra is super chill and very sweet. And yes, his reaction to who you're dating other than him varies (like when you date Julian, and don't get me started on Lucio)

But I always thought, deep down, he'd feel sad and abandoned (it's not your fault ofc). But the circumstances that led you two to be together again prevents him from being completely honest with you. And maybe, he felt like he deserved this. And you, having died once, deserve a happy life

I know he probably manages these feelings when you're not around (even moreso if you choose to date Muriel). But him coming around to being okay (at least in Muriel's route) to the point that he ships you and the other person feels very quick (especially with the latter M3, as their routes are much shorter)

But maybe that's just me. Maybe I don't know Asra enough. I've already played his route, but I feel like I'm missing something

But also, come on, I can't be the only one who wants to see Asra react with more intense feelings about this

(Especially if you choose Muriel. I mean, come on - Asra sacrifices half his heart to bring you back despite his best friend constantly warning him and being rude to you when you were alive, only for you to pick Muriel and Muriel still thinks the ritual was bad? And he's now the one who gets to kiss you and wake up to you everyday? Sounds like a recipe for a really heated argument

Yes they're best friends, and Muriel's gone through more trauma, but I can't help but feel like the tiniest argument about this might set Asra off and he'd give Muriel a piece of his mind if Muriel continues to believe that the way Asra brought MC back was bad [to be clear, it is. But what if Asra would be too emotional to care?])

🍒 - What (other) career would they consider going into, if given the chance?

Muriel: He would really enjoy working at a Wildlife Rescue/Sanctuary/Refuge, I think.

Shane: Anything other than JojaMart. Jokes aside, I have the headcanon that he would’ve loved going into film/directing based on his second 7 hearts event.

🍊 - Is your f/o more comfortable giving or receiving gifts? Do they have any preferences on gifts they like receiving?

Muriel: Giving gifts is his preference, if only because he’s not used to receiving them. He prefers simple and practical things over anything fancy or decorative, but will also really appreciate handmade gifts.

Shane: Ambivalent, mostly; he likes giving and receiving in equal measures. He prefers receiving things that directly relate to his interests, and doesn’t mind too much if it’s decorative vs practical.

🍌 - Does your f/o have a vendetta against The Big Light™? What kind of lighting do they prefer?

Bonus Rubin Fact: I am incredibly sensitive to light! Not just sunlight—the fluorescent lights in groceries stores? Too much. The ceiling light in my old childhood bedroom? Too much. White light is the worst for me, the warmer the light the better it is on my eyes.

Muriel: Yes, very much. He’s generally sensitive to a lot of stimuli.

Shane: Ehhh. Depends on where he’s at in his storyline (and whether or not he’s hungover.) The better he’s feeling emotionally, the more likely he is to enjoy a bright sunny day.

🥝 - Would your f/o ever let you do their make-up? What does their make-up process look like?

Muriel: Not really, but he’s willing to let me paint his nails. In rare occasions I can do a little bit of makeup, but he generally doesn’t like things lingering on his face for too long. He will help me do my own makeup though; my hands aren’t super steady, which sucks for things like eyeliner.

Shane: Yes. He pretends to grouch about it, but he likes seeing the end result. I usually choose to do stuff for cosplay when it comes to makeup, so we have fun picking out characters to turn Shane into.

🥥 - What are your f/o’s hobbies? What hobbies would they like to get into?

Muriel: He’s very into carving/whittling, and other woodworking projects. He’s recently gotten interested into weaving/embroidery.

Shane: Video games and tending to his chickens. He wants to get back into film and camera work.

🫚 - Is your f/o a picky eater? Are there any foods they will refuse to eat under any circumstances?

Muriel: He’ll try just about anything, as long as it’s ethically sourced. So something like shark fin soup for example is off the table.

Shane: No beer. No pickles. And what the fuck is ‘void mayonnaise’?? He’s not a fan of mushrooms but he’ll eat them. Kinda like me, actually.

🌽 - What’s your f/o’s favorite animal? Are they scared of any animals?

Muriel: He has a massive soft spot for wolves and dogs, but largely loves animals of all kinds. Bugs, reptiles, birds, mammals; goats are a little unnerving sometimes to him, but he’s not afraid of them.

Shane: He loves chickens. He’s fairly neutral towards most animals on their own but can grow to love individuals. If there’s any animal he’s afraid of, it would specifically be Dusty, Alex’s dog—he has it out for Shane.

🫛 - How does your f/o feel about pet names? What do they like/hate to be called?

Muriel: They fluster him, but he doesn’t dislike them per se. He’s fond of ‘hun / honey’ but is less comfortable with something like ‘baby / sweetie pie’ out in public.

Shane: Ambivalent. He doesn’t necessarily hate them, but he’ll grow to love them eventually. Not a big fan of mushy-gushy type pet-names, prefers standard things like ‘babe / hun’.
