Arcadie: Cold Lands - Progress Update - November 2024

(I know it's almost December but better late than never right?)

Arcadie: Cold Lands is gearing up to be much more complex to write and code than Second-Born, purely by virtue of it acknowledging your past choices.

Whether a certain person lives or dies, whether you even take them along, whether you accepted a certain deal...

It's a lot of work to keep it all cohesive and not have one path seem better than another, but it's also pretty fun and rewarding.

I've also just come off playing a game that is a sequel to one of my favorite gaming franchises, and saying I was disappointed is an understatement. I really was not fond of what they did with the world, and the... dumbing-down of the writing. My fault for buying a game day one!

Anyway, that made me really want to honor your past choices, and not shy away from giving you more role-playing options. So the possibility of being a force of... chaos, is back, though only when it makes sense. I don't want to write stupid or gratuitous evil, but rather self-interested tyrant. We'll see how it goes as I write along.

Oh and I have disabled access to the demo for Arcadie: Cold Lands, as it doesn't reflect the current state of the game. I'll probably be posting an updated version next month or in January.

sasharcy but specifically resistance au sasharcy where sasha breaks marcy out of the castle and they both have to awkwardly work together to lead a resistance whilst awkwardly dancing around their waning/tense friendship

marcy still recovering to what happened to her in TC and sasha trying to be supportive and caring where she can but they both fall into avoiding airing out their frustrations and actually talking about what happened because god. they need to make this work, they can’t let themselves get distracted when the people and world their anne loves is suffering and hurting all around them, so them throwing themselves into trying to fix things and keep things together but silence between them is deafening until finally it’s marcy who snaps because man. she betrayed their trust, how could sasha stand to be even around her right now and it’s sooo obvious how angry sasha is by how she dodges and avoids and marcy would rather her be loud and angry, at least then she knows instead of all this dancing around, playing pretend that things are okay and marcy so desperately wants to fix it but sasha then just looking at her solemnly, talks about how she did hate her — but only for a moment, because when you’re faced with the reality of losing someone you love

things change, your perspective changes and maybe, sasha’s finally learnt that she wasn’t so great herself and maybe if sasha had been a good friend in the first place, it might’ve never pushed marcy to not talk to either her or anne about the move and her fears

just man. something about them both silently blaming themselves for each others misgivings and mistakes only for them to finally break and admit their faults and air out their frustrations. to fall apart to only come back together again stronger

Odd question but I've never been able to figure it out (probably just not looking into it enough). Does Alexander canonically have heterochromia? Nearly all the iterations of him in fanart have them, but the books never mention it (I don't think so anyway).

This is FASCINATING to me because in my head his eyes are blue - no heterochromia. But I see a lot of fan art where he has different colour eyes. Perfectly happy that fanon has decided this, but it isn’t something that was in my mind when I was writing him!

okay i asked frogtwt for things to ramble about and i had this very fun one by @/yosai_t and i wanted to share it here

anne with sasharcy it’s words of affirmation. it’s waking up in the morning, it’s soft “i love yous” in the morning sunlight. it’s texting how their day is and leaving a ttyl, remember ilysm <3 it’s leaving notes to remind them to take care of themselves, and she cares always

sasha with marcanne it’s acts of service. it’s surprising them with breakfast in bed on the weekends. it’s driving them to wherever they need to go without needing to be asked. it’s offering a helping hand without hesitation, standing by to support them

marcy with annesha it’s physical touch. it’s intertwining hand holds that fall tragically apart only to come back together again. it’s engulfing hugs that last for what feels like hours. it’s soft kisses goodbye every morning at the door and then warm kisses to welcome them home
