You guys were just together looking for some item you've seen online and you really wanted them.

Seeing you so happy Umemiya heart couldn't help but to felt his heart melt.

Without you noticed Umemiya went into the store.

After a few second an unknown men went to meet you. Starting to talk to you.

Even though you told the guy to leave you alone he started to scream at you and even took your arm.

At the exact moment Umemiya cameback.

He didnt have the time to make a move that your fist meet this guy face.

When He tried to replicate you felt a hand on your waist and an important presence behind you.

That was of course your boyfriend. He's coming to help you.

Seeing the firing uniform the man left quickly.

When you asked Umemiya were he was he looked at you with adorable eyes showing you the product he bought that you guys came originally for.

Sakura

You guys were outside you went with Sakura and his friend on a patrol. You weren't used to go with him but you had nothing to do and you really wanted to spend time with him.

Sakura and you were behind everyone talking and stuff. You even manage to take his hand in yours. His face was slightly red but not that much noticeable.

When a men approached you and talking to you in an appropriate way. Telling you stuff you really didn't like and after all you are here to spend time with your boyfriend and to see how a Furin patrol is.

Sakura couldn't even say a thing before you jump on that guy to rip him apart. No thought needed just action. Your body moved before you could think.

The fight started and well obviously you won. Women supremacy. The men left running his tails between his leg. Not very brave for a men who went talk to you and even tried to flirt with you in front of the furin.

When you turn back everyone was looking at you. Such a pretty lady fighting like that. Quite impressive. The mouth were open not really know how to react or even what to say. But what did they expect you are Sakura 's girlfriend.

But honestly even him didn't know you could do that. The guy didn't even touch you once. You were so cool.

Sakura looked so proud like have you seen that? That's my girlfriend look.

Suo

Walking hand in hand with your boyfriend he was listening to you while you were talking about your last interest of the moment.

It was such a cute moment everyone could tell you were loving bird.

That nice moment were cut off by a bunch of men who came by you

Without a thought suo put you behind him to protect his significant other.

Unfortunately the guys wouldn't let you off so a fight start.

Suo was doing as always amazing but he didn't see one of the guy approaching you.

It was only when you sent him fly to another guy suo was fighting that he turn around to see you angry.

Seriously it was a nice afternoon, the weather was nice but no people pissed you off.

You went by Suo to be behind him again. Sure you know how to fight but you don't want to.

After that you guys went by an item from your interest of the moment to cool you off.

Kiryu

It was such precious date to you since you could enjoy a passion in common but also cause let's not lie you beat every record on the arcade born.

After beating another record Kiryu told you he will comeback in a few and to just wait for him.

So here you are now trying to escape a boring conversation with a men who clearly want to take you home.

You wish your boyfriend would comeback soon but unfortunately it seems that he will take some time.

When you nicely said the men you didn't wish to speak to him and you already have someone he began to be more aggressive.

He took your arm begining to drag you closer to him. You couldn't do much since he has your arm so you hit him with you head on the nose.

He startind to bleed when his lift his hand to slap you.

You raise you arm ready to block him. But before you could a hand stopped him.

Kiryu came back. Finally. You were clearly not a princess in danger but if you could avoid fighting even though you know how to its better.

Kiryu was clearly really pissed off by this men. His pressure on the guy hand was strong and he didn't want to let go. Who do this guy think to touch you?

The guy otherwise did not let go to. They started to fight before a manager came to the situation and make everyone leave.

Kiryu look at you before giving you a plush he won while he was not with you that's why he left. Finally you guys ended up at his house playing game with the plush between your arm.

Nirei

You guys were walking on the street heading to a meet up with the other.

It was a nice day you actually came cause the meeting was called kinda late and you really wanted to meet your boyfriend's friend.

So here you are walking listening to Nirei talking about how Sakura tried to again started a fight and how he tried to stopped it while Suo encouraged it by his sarcastic comment.

At some point a guy came by you stopping you on your walks.

Dude tried to poorly rizz you when Nirei told him you weren't interested and then HE was YOUR boyfriend.

But the guy didn't like that his fist up he tried to hit Nirei when you stopped him and hit his elbow with your knee. Bam you broke it.

The guy left crying how much it hurts. Nirei was so impressed by you he even asked you to teach him how to do that.

You looked at him laughing when you slowly realise his friend was behind him. With all the sound the fight did obviously furin came to see what happened. And they saw everything.

And that is how you met you boyfriend's friends.

having watched I Saw the TV Glow recently, I'm... not sure people understand how much of it is metaphor.

like, yes. Owen is literally trans because Owen is literally Isabel. but the Midnight Realm is a metaphor for cissexual society; the Midnight Realm is not real because cissexual society is constructed on the false premises of patriarchy and white supremacy and so on, such as the false gender binary that Owen faces in the movie: men like women, The Pink Opaque is for girls, etc.

similarly, The Pink Opaque is a metaphor for queerness and the queer community, which is seen as false and artificial by cissexual society and does not conform to the 'rules' created by it (for example, the fantasy/magic elements). even there, however, the threat of the cissexual society is present in Mr. Melancholy, whose plan to use the hearts of 100 awkward kids connects back to how cissexual society abuses and makes use of any who don't fit in. Isabel and Tara's hearts being in an industrial freezer reflects the large-scale societal nature of their oppression.

the need to kill their Midnight Realm selves is because their queer selves have already been killed. in this metaphorical murder of their false cissexual identities they are able to be reborn as their true selves. all identities conferred upon people in cissexual society are based on false presumptions and enforcement of gender and sex binaries. the coffin is not meant to reflect actual suicide. leaving cissexual society and embracing your true self is as "crazy" as suicide. and, of course, when people come out as queer, their families may mourn their false cissexual identities rather than acknowledging their living family.

the ending of the movie is about looking at what's inside you and then still needing to apologize for it. not because Owen will never transition but because it is a slow process that takes a long time. also note how Owen mentions trying a new medication - still insisting on a pathological wrongness. the director went over the ending in interviews as well. not that authorial intent is everything, but this is a movie clearly shaped by it in every detail.

there's more I don't really see people talk about. exchanging the old TV for the new, and specifically showing it being LG, shows the swap of the real for the artificial and glossy. the arcade has Mr. Melancholy theming to reflect how society makes light of oppression and turns it into a simplified narrative where the oppression is already over, and then commercializes it. the birthday party has a shot of the "Boy" on the hat, further showing how it is a gendered event that reinforces the horror of the Midnight Realm. the fact that Tara leaving her heart behind with Isabel's is because we are not free until we are all free.

“Stop fighting!”

You seethed through your teeth, your children throwing not-so-light shoves to shoulders. You pictured it now, your nine year old running to you sobbing, wanting his mommy to ‘kiss it better’ like he was five again. Your eldest son threw another blow, side eyeing the hell out of the youngest when he yelped. “You’re way too old to be messing with him.”

Steve snorted to your right, his grip on your knee, firm yet comforting. You threw your own hit in his direction, hand slapping his chest. He groaned, rubbing the spot where your ringed fingered made contact, teeth baring as he grimaced.

“Oh, so you can hit Steve, but I can’t play with my brother. He took my controller, I know it,” the name dripped off of your older son’s mouth like it was sour. Your eyes rolled even further, throwing a balled up napkin towards him.

“You’re fifteen, babe. Don’t think it’s called playing anymore,” you sarcastically said, relaxing slightly as they separated from each other. You felt Steve lean over to you, rising from his perch on the sofa.

“Watch this,” Steve winked in your direction, voice dropped to a whisper.

Your lips pressed into a thin line, knowing how this interaction would go. You bit back the laugh that was already threatening to bubble.

“Hey, man, what d’you say we stop by the store later today? I could replace that controller and buy you a few things, like some new games?” His voice was hopeful, yet immediately shut down.

“You’re so weird, man,” your 15 year old muttered, shaking his head in disbelief before storming out of the room.

Steve gaped after him, mouth dropped open.

“What did I even say?” He said, running a hand over his mouth. “I was being nice.”

“You were, baby,” You pouted in his direction, patting his cheek lightly before squeezing his cheek. His eyes remained on where your son had disappeared up the stairs, stomping off to his room. “So nice. He’s just at that age, y’know?”

Steve was new in your life so you couldn’t blame your son, not all the way. Dating for almost three years, but recently introduced to your kids. Cut diamond freshly on your finger to prove it too. It was hardest on your eldest, jabs being thrown at any convenience, lessening these days, but still there every now and then.

“Well… what about you?” He turned his attention back to your youngest, his little finger pressing random buttons on a portable CD player.

He gave him a look, eyebrow raised in suspicion as he took in your fiancé. His finger hovered in the air, centimeters away from the buttons.

“You want to go somewhere tonight? Movie theatre? Arcade?” Steve suggested, leaning on his elbows closer to him. Your son turned back to his player, features unmoving.

“I don’t like those things anymore.” His answer was short, straight to the point. Steve huffed, patience growing a little thin.

You rubbed your hand against his back, massaging the taut muscles within it. He relaxed a bit, leaning into you.

“Okay,” The word was drawn out, vowels stretching on his tongue. “What do you like to do?”

He thought about it a moment, taking out the CD to read the print on it, fingers running over the words. “Skate park.”

Steve beamed, satisfied with the answer, the one word more than he’s received in the past month. “We can do that!”

A hum escaped the little mouth, lips pursed in a fashion that looked eerily similar to your own. His eyes still refused to meet Steve, dismissal written all over him.

“You’re too old,” he answered, gathering his things as he huffed. It seemed his own patience had worn thin with the conversation, eye roll of his own given. He began to walk away, Steve watching him just as he did with your eldest, mouth parted in shock.

“It’s okay, babe,” You whispered, pressing a kiss to his hairline. His eyes fluttered shut at the touch, big, brown eyes searching your own briefly.

Your son disappeared out of sight, the pitter patter of his feet ascending up the steps.

Steve groaned, head falling against the couch cushion with his hands pressed to his eyes. You giggled at him, wrapping your arms around him as he began to spiral.

“They hate me, oh God, they hate me,” he said, head shaking. Pulling his hands away, he looked at you, over exaggerated pout on his lips, brows pulled together, sad, sad puppy dog eyes drawn. “Kids used to love me, and now look at me.”

You laughed, pressing a kiss to his jutted out lip. He began to chase you, head leaning forward as you pulled away laughing, a hand pressed to his chest.

“They don’t hate you.” Your voice faltered, wincing when he caught the change in tone.

“Oh God!” It was louder this time, his groan thrown into the room as he fully leaned into you, head pressed to your stomach as he wrapped an arm around your thigh. “They completely do!”

“You just gotta warm them up,” you sighed, running your hands through his hair. It was long, fluffy, smelling like the scent of his bedsheets. “They’ll come around.”

Steve peered up at you, twisting his neck so his eyes met yours. You leaned down, pressing another kiss to his lips, the two of you instantly relaxing into it.

“They’re gonna love you, baby,” you muttered against his mouth, adjusting as he shifted on you, his body turning so he sat upright, figure looming over your own.

His hand was pressed to your cheeks, mouth slotted with yours. You leaned back into the cushions, welcoming the press of his chest to your own. A throat cleared in front of you, the two of you jumping away like teenagers caught in the act.

Your eldest son stood there, disgust written over his features, hand on his hip and eyes narrowed.

“Get off my mom, Steve,” he threw, voice laced with irritation. Steve flushed in his face, combing his hair back into place. “Anyways, I need you to take me to my friend’s house.”

Steve immediately grew giddy, eyebrows shooting up. He stood up off the couch, hands rapidly beating his pockets as he searched for his keys. His gaze looked all over the room, darting around as he searched for them.

Shaking your head at him, you nearly choked with laughter as he pulled them out of his pockets, almost dropping them with the force of it. You winked at him, shooting him a thumbs up as your son turned around to walk towards the door (of course, not without the infamous eye roll).

‘Told you, babe,’ you mouthed, eyebrows wiggling at him. His red face only deepened, trying to play it cool. You didn’t have the heart to tell him that he was going to have to work twice as hard for the respect of your sons, this being a small leap (hopefully) in the right direction. It did count for something though, a feat that made Steve feel better about his stance in the now shared household, and if the price was making him happy, you were all for it.

Playing Tekken with Taehoon

Taehoon loves playing tekken, shown before he fought with Hobin.

Taehoon loves Taekwondo Supremacy.

He would use the particular Character who specializes in Taekwondo.

Hwoarang uses Taekwondo when fighting different martial artists in the game.

Being in a relationship with Taehoon would involve him dragging you into arcades.

He would play for hours end

You would at one point get interested in the game. Considering Taehoon plays with it every time he can, you wonder what's the thrill with playing Tekken.

You tried playing with Taehoon without prior research.

"Damn, Why'd ya play if ya suck at it?"

Beware whenever Taehoon plays,

he berates you unconsciously.

"Ya don't smash the buttons randomly! Use some fucking combos!"

After playing a few games you got tired of Taehoon berating you while playing the game.

Then while he teaches he also berates you.

It was so confusing playing the game with all different combos.

Hobin coincidentally saw you with Taehoon while hanging out with Jiksae.

He then also teaches you a bit with Tekken then says that when he fought with Taehoon he used the "weakest character" Panda

"Ah, So you have skill issues Taehoon?" You jokingly laughed.

Taehoon looked a bit pissed

"He just fucking caught me off guard."

But Taehoon appreciates the fact that you are trying to understand him as well.

I genuinely confused about the whole drama fuss is all about. All fandom always at least have that one toxic ship, it's inevitable. And master/slave trope is not a new concept either, heck people seems fine about the trope as long as two party are attractive i suppose (shrug).

Plus dead dove do not eat also is a thing. It's unavoidable, if someone really didn't like a content there's literally a mute or filter

TLDR: It was always gonna go this way.

The long version: people originally started arguing about Caesar/Arcade because bickering over how to write characters’ romantic lives is time honored fandom tradition. This has been happening since the days of Star Trek and Harry Potter, it’s nothing new. These scuffles become especially aggro & self-serious when related back to a popular blorbo - those (usually male, almost always white) characters that are kinned, stanned and projected onto moreso than others. Arcade is absolutely that guy, right? He's a lot of people's favorite. He's special.

This spat featured casual racism, offensive name-calling and some brazen, truly nonsensical appropriations of AAVE, because those are also time honored fandom traditions. (Even if you niggas are cagey about acknowledging that.) Art in western culture is heavily influenced by white supremacy, and fandom, including the FNV fandom, is just one niche within that culture. White people, especially the young n cool™ ones, value their position as consumers & beneficiaries of black culture more than they value black people. They are known for selecting parts of our identity, language music clothes hairstyles etc, removing them from the original context, and bastardizing them so they can be used as a cultural commodity for nonblacks. Something that is put on and taken off for funsies, cosplay style. That FD Signifier video I was hyping up over the summer had a whole section about this. He also just released a new video on black cops which is worth checking out.

Now, tumblr's userbase generally believe themselves to be more enlightened than fandoms as you see them on reddit and twitter. And this is true, on a superficial level; you are much more likely to be met with slurs and open hostility on those sites than on this one. I also believe that, because the demographics which form the majority of tumblr's userbase - white gays and white women - have traditionally been marginalized & subjected to mistreatment within mainstream pop culture, they are especially resistant to identifying and dealing with the ways in which they fall short of their own progressive ideals. No one wants to see themself in the same light as their own bullies.

The problem is that, when it comes to their behavior, tumblr's FNV fandom can be pretty damn regressive, especially on the topic of race. They tend to have an excellent grasp on liberal terminology and identity politics, so they are comparatively much better at keeping these misgivings covert. But in practice, you will find them to be no less self-centered, entitled and anti-black than the FNV fanboys you would expect to find on reddit and twitter. I got into this game right around the time it was revealed that some white users were producing extreme anti-native content behind closed doors, an experience which has fostered an increased sense of isolation and paranoia among the remaining people of color in the community, as far as I can tell.

Okay, so, some white users start doing the ~Oooh Chile You'sa Lame Ass Homeskillet~ routine characteristic of digital blackface. They go out of their way to be as disrespectful and verbally abusive as they can in the process, because atp they're still on the offensive. And they misuse the black words they're "borrowing" because they don't know what they actually mean. When myself and a few others respond in kind, they double down, carrying on with the nastiness and the bizarrely racialized talking points. (Unironically calling people you don't like "degenerates??" Really?? School failed some of y'all smh)

A couple days go by and, instead of moving on and finding something else to do, they press the proverbial self-destruct button and engage in civility politics. The malignant tone of the original posts is abandoned, and instead, the people who once adopted it become… shocked and confused and wounded. They start talking about how, instead of matching their energy, their contemporaries should've just been "nice" and "civilized." They start complaining about being “canceled” just for having “opinions,” going back and forth between making half-assed apologies and insisting that the original issue wasn’t that big of a deal because they didn’t have “the intention of being racist” as if “having the intention of being racist” is something people ever do.

You would never guess that 1.these were the people all but outright referring to their peers as unwashed subhumans not last week, or 2. that they did so while identifying as left wing. Because rhetoric like this is borne from a place of privilege. Expecting that no one you’re denigrating will be allowed to meet you with an equal level of vitriol, because your space considers doing so to be taboo, is the kind of behavior that arises from too long spent insulated from the nonwhites who created the language they were mimicking. Nonwhites who might take umbrage with their broken attempts to use it while in the same breath calling them & theirs a bitch.

And if theres anything I would like people to take away from this, it's that the parts of fandom culture which they might have expected to have evolved in the past decade or so have, by and large, not evolved. Even some predominantly queer spaces will readily adopt the talking points of the right wing and prove themselves to be every bit as hostile to poc if you don't abide by their rules and center their perspective. So you should think before you speak and make an effort to not throw rocks and hide your hands, as is the parlance of our time.

Lastly, please do not go find these people and bother them on my behalf. I'm gonna take the poor english language comprehension between the both of them to indicate that they’re probably all, if not minors, young adults, which means they’ll likely learn not to act like this on their own. Or not! Maybe they'll be like this forever. Maybe one day I’ll see their names in the news after getting their shit rocked for saying a slur on campus & crying to the press about how they’re the real victims here. I can't influence whether or not that happens, because I’m not their counselor or their mom, even if they expect me to act like it.

Mappi headcanons:

- This one isn’t originally mine but yeah I believe in Filipino Mahiru supremacy HONORARY PINOY FR

- To me she seems like the kind of person who would have little habits/ticks she likes to do like twirling her pencil around, bouncing her leg while she’s sitting, skipping around in place those sort of things!!!

- She also likes to gesticulate with her hands a lot so she can get her point across, and it helps her keep track of her thoughts too when she’s speaking to someone

- Her, Kazui, and Mikoto like to hang out occasionally! I feel like they would volunteer together at an animal shelter to help out! :D

- She would show up to Haruka, Yuno, and Mu’s high school graduation and make a whole banner for them! She would make the biggest deal out of it because she’s just so proud of them you know 🥺

- Loves to bake, is really good at it actually (she would definitely do those pie competitions some people have you know whoever makes the best pie gets a ribbon yeah that, she has so many ribbons :3) , but struggles sometimes with cooking, Shidou helps teach her some skills and come up with easier recipes for her to make!

It was at that moment that Futa Kajiyama, who was also at the arcade at the time, swears to beat her at this game one day LMAO

Amane headcanons:

- She would definitely do color guard in school! It’s one of her main passions, along with band! I want Amane Momose to play a trumpet I think it would be amazing

- Kazui, Shidou, Futa, Mahiru, and Kotoko are at her games often, they all cheer her on ofc <3

- Shidou always loves to celebrate after her games with giving her pancakes! Ofc she denies them and lets the others eat them, but she’ll save one pancake for herself just to show her appreciation (cue Shidou crying in the corner while Kazui tries to comfort him LMAO)

- I feel like she would be an avid collector of pokemon cards, or just like any trading card game for that matter. Futa always takes her to card game stores so she can pick out the newest packs and they can build decks together. Sometimes Mikoto joins in but he has no idea what he’s doing jhdfbhjd

THIS IS HOW I IMAGINE AMANE AND MIKOTO PLAYING CARD GAMES TOGETHER LMAO

- In the beginning, she wasn’t that good and Futa would always beat her, but now they're evenly matched, and she always revels in the victory whenever she wins in a game against Futa >:3

- Yuno would help with picking out new outfits for her! I feel like they would frequent the mall often lol. Haruka also joins them on occasion, and him and Amane love to look at all the stuffed animal and book stores together!

- Her, Haruka, and Mu would probably take an art class over the summer together and all of them would be so invested in it that it becomes a hobby!

- Once Amane gets to high school, I think it would be cute if Mu gave her a hand me down uniform with custom stitching and everything. The uniform has embroidery all around it where everyone contributed to something on the uniform

- Kotoko takes her to martial arts training classes, which she enjoys a lot. She tries out the new kicks she's learned on Futa and Shidou <3

- Kazui always gives her piggy back rides 🥺

- Amane has a pet cat named Sango, whom she loves very much 🥺 she is very sweet and spoiled, and loves cuddling with her. It helps Amane when she has trouble sleeping, or if she has a nightmare

- I said before how Mappi would give Amane all the extra sweets she's made, but I also think that Amane herself would try to learn how to bake, so Mappi offers to be her taste tester! Sometimes she creates inedible things and Mappi suffers but it's with a smile as Amane smiles back at her and continues on baking! :D (she'll tell her what she did wrong later dfkjnfd)

- Amane always loves to help out with cooking dinners! She would help Mahiru peel and cut all the vegetables! They would also frequent the food market together I feel like, and Mahiru allows Amane to pick out a few sweet treats like candy that she can take home

- Mahiru buys a little cat charm for Amane's bookbag! She also helps cat sit Sango whenever Amane is busy

- Around the holidays, her and Amane would go to all the festivities around town! Looking at the Christmas lights, drinking hot chocolate, all of that! Amane would start snowball fights with Mappi, and they both get competitive really quick lol (spoiler: Amane always wins <3)

i am admittedly very fascinated by kips gear design (so much so in fact that i straight up asked him if we could ever hear process or design notes about it lmao), so i had some of my own thoughts honestly

im gonna make this in chronological order cause its easier to explain the reasoning that way, so i hope it makes sense but

so we have to go back to the last of the superbad designs first

i cannot for the life of me find a photo of the backside of the gear, but i literally rewatched arcade anarchy for research for this as thats one match i can name from the top of my head where he wears this, and it holds no relevancy (apart from the 'superbad' text on the ass) to what im gonna talk about later, so

but yeah.. i have no explanation for this design choice tbh lol. im pretty sure most of this was just "because he liked the colors and it looked cool", its mostly an aesthetic choice afaik. which, admittedly, it is. its really fucking pretty. the only thing i can say from the top of my head is the drip effect on the top of the tights, as that was in some previous superbad shorts, so thats a recycled thing (and will continue to be, so its good to point out here). likewise the non-matching kneepads, tho interestingly enough the side of the one with images changes as we move on, which. i'll talk about a bit later

i just wanted to point this one out cause it has some elements that keep on appearing later, and also cause its pretty. longboy supremacy 💜

moving onto the return/boxman gear

the boxman gear holds up some of the old design choices - the different kneepads, the drip effect, at this point he also had mismatching kickpads which i found extremely interesting (especially after realizing this was a repeat design choice. like if you look at them, the right one has a light pattern on it but the left one doesnt. and then compare those to the superbad kickpads. same thing). and yeah the superbad text still remains on the ass, which i find kinda funky considering he literally right up to the reveal of this new look went around ripping into his old self so. hmm. tho this is a point im gonna bring up in the collective thoughts later, so put a pin on it

but. theres a few things i wanna focus on here. mainly the clearly toned down color scheme - the more wine red, black and white is clearly toned down from whatever that aesthetic mess was before. but it works, especially later with the colored hair. i dont know the significance of it apart from him just really liking those colors so he wanted to use them (which i believe he has mentioned off-hand before so im just pulling this from my memory idk), but im mentioning them now to talk about it later a bit more when we get to the current design

also the big head on the side. this is more relevant later, again, with how it changes from design to design, but its interesting to see that despite moving on from his "previous self", hes still carrying that image with him. sure its a bit more updated, but the base for the superbad is there and used for it. like i get it that its a logo thing, but still. it sure is a choice

and thennnnn the kneepads. cause this is where i feel like the interesting shit starts (before we move on to current look which is what really prompted this whole thought process). see, there used to be a kip head there. now its a question mark. which has been imagery he used a lot during the boxman era both before and after his return, even to the point where there was a question mark on the back of the box (with the word 'back', yes, but the question mark was still very much there. omnipresent, if you will, as was the boxman himself). it feels like a nod about forgetting, abandoning to your old self and searching for something new, searching for yourself again. to me this looks like a sign of 'who am i/who was i' type of deal, like its such a deliberate choice of where its put - and yes i know the knees change between this and the previous design, but i feel like the point still stands. even more so with the swapped knee tbh, being so lost trying to find yourself you make mistakes. i know this is a reach but bear with me lmao

I ALSO ACTUALLY HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THE KICKPADS CAUSE I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING

look at this. look at it. so i mentioned before that the different patterning on the kickpads, right? well its only on the right side. which is also the only side with the drip effect on it. and look at the kickpad. the pattern shows better in the ddt photo lighting, but what does that look like? its kinda like a blood splatter. and knowing at this point in time, for this character, kip was doing character studies and consuming media etc. about characters that were most often serial killers or otherwise similarly deranged... yeah baby this is a nod to that you cant tell me otherwise!!

and then some choices i just wanna mention cause i think they're interesting but i have no fucking idea what they mean or why they are there lmao. apart from the 'time changes us all' text on the right side, thats pretty obvious (and plays to everything else ive pointed out so far actually) as well as the fact that instead of a few selected fingers, he started taping almost all of them (wedding band my beloved). that one i know he has mentioned was an aesthetic choice cause he liked it (also it might have something to do with him previously having dislocated a finger mid match sssooooo)

but anyways

i just really wanna talk about the lacing of the kickpad. yeah, just the one. cause i really dont know why, but im completely in love with the asymmetry of this design choice, its very similar to the one patterned kneepad. its also made into a more obvious one as time goes on i think, cause its barely visible in the return match at all in zero hour, but just few months down the line its fully visible and you can even see it in the promo pictures, the bow end of it just dangling about. i just honestly think its really cute, but also relevant to, again, the current design so im gonna talk about it more later

..and then i just offhand wanted to mention. this. cause i dont know what the fuck this is or why its a choice in this design but. it is. so here you go have fun lmao

(like in speculation i had a quick thought that MAYBE its trying to match pennys new gears garter belt style, as its just about the same spot, and since they did kinda matching styled gear? but thats literally all i got. i got so distracted by this fucking thing and i have no idea what it is. i hate it now, thats all i know lmao) anyways, moving on! current design yay!!

so what i find the most interesting here, compared to the two others, is lack of color. honestly i think the grayscale works wonderfully with the rest of the design choices as well as his current look, but seeing him go from the previously colored design to this just sparked a thought in me.. tho idk how much of that actually plays into this design choice, considering this was done before he started the transition more away from what the boxman had become with the 'underrated and over it' gimmick and hes moving towards a much more confident version of himself again (sex idol, anyone?), but hes trying to prove something here. less flash in design, more flash in character, if that makes sense. also, classic villain look, black and white and cheesy blond 80s hair. i love him

the drips are also to the minimum now for some reason, and the splat pattern on the kickpad is gone. which is sad cause i really loved that detail, but again, minimalism, more classical and clean look. it still works, but i miss it. i also just like it how all the text is easier to look now, while that font just has the creep vibes. this whole set up feels like a homage to old black and white horror movies tbh, now that i think about it which i absolutely would not put past him

whichhhhh leads us to the first big point i wanted to make with this one - the mask on the side that now entirely replaces the previous kip heads. he very briefly brought it up as part of the two episode stint they did in ddt in february this year with penny, and there was like a single photoshoot in aew with it

and then it was never brought up again. which i believe is cause kip said once that he was waiting for a good opportunity and a longer storyline to bring it out for its full potential. which, sadly never happened as i believe he has now plans to move on from it (and possibly return to the box? we shall see, but thats what he said he wanted to do, so), but i find it interesting that its chosen as the new logo to replace the original kip head on the tights, but yet the box logo design remains on both the front and the back of the jacket (which i didnt bring up here as while i love the design, it holds no relevancy in these cases im talking about here, apart from this one) and the actual mask is never seen on screen

the second thing i wanna talk about is the text on the back. previous two designs have said 'superbad', this one says 'the gallery' - for uninformed, this was(/is?) the unofficial team name of kip, butcher, blade, bunny and penelope. although i believe they are more or less now coining the name 'deadly alliance', but since neither is official... anyways, i just wanna point it out that hes moving on from singling and acknowledging himself only, and moving more into team territory here, which is an interesting touch. especially for someone who can often be viewed as a mastermind behind the things he makes his little henchmen do. hmmm (i could talk about this alliance forever but im gonna spare you, let it just be known that i dont think they are on as equal standings within this group as they might let you believe or think themselves lmao. like kip is obviously leading this bunch of killers but thats a whole another tangent. its just an interesting thought in the relation to him now having a team name on the gear [especially when in the meantime both butcher and blade i believe just have their names SO])

and finally! the actual thing that made me wanna write this whole four fucking hours long operation!! the color splash details!!!

these. the lacing. its the only colorful thing in these pants and it has sparkled so many thoughts in me god. like i obviously see how these were easy to recycle from the previous design (although they are different laces so. theres also that. which makes this an even more deliberate choice), and keeping the colors consistent by making the two similar pieces the same color. this also can be tied together to the horror movie theme still, as while we lack blood splatters overall, we do have these here. in red. which i feel like is an important detail

i do want to, however, talk about why i thought this was so important and what it sparked in me. now, this might be the part where im fucking reaching and reading too much into this, but.. in this transition towards something new and something else, few former pieces remain, although they change along the way. the kneepads are still similar, the pants are still pinstriped, the red laces are there, the kickpads are similar, minor changes to some of the designs, etc.. the basics are the same, but it swaps to new things over time, as we move on

so you see. hes embracing it. hes moving on. hes changing. little by little, things are different, but hes making the active role in accepting it and making them happen. hes still the same old underneath, just the perception to outside and how its viewed is different. the patterns change. the colors change. the names, the phrases, the looks. they all change, hes embracing it, but it all comes down to the same old, because thats the thing; even if youre moving on, you cant forget your roots. cause whats the other, a bit lesser known saying?

Gaming Spotlight #11: Digimon Rumble Arena (2001)

Hello this is Larsa here with another spotlight feature on a game you may have missed from the Playstation era. Stand up to the fight!

Before we get to our featured title let's review some history shall we? Super Smash Bros 64 came out in the year 1999 developed by HAL Laboratory, INC. This revolutionary game was inspired by the dream match concept of SNK Corporation's own popular "King of Fighters" series where a bunch of a existing characters are thrown together to duke it out. Many in the industry took notice as the success of the new Nintendo crossover fighting game which created many fans of a whole new genre, platform fighting games.

"Digimon Rumble Arena" or "Digimon Tamers: Battle Evolution" as it is known as in Japan would become one of the first early platform fighting games following in the giant shadow of "Super Smash Bros 64" to stand out as a game worth playing. Right away a fighting game based on one of the most popular anime series of the late 90s and early 00s just seems like a perfect pairing. By the time this game was released Digimon had firmly became a massively popular series already having a theatrical movie release worldwide and currently airing its very popular third season titled "Digimon Tamers". Right away the opening would blow the minds of any young Digimon fans at the time because it was essentially a Digimon dream match title starring the Digimon and tamers of the first three seasons slugging it out for digital supremacy.

Is Guilmon really stronger than Agumon? How about Gatomon versus Renamon? Or how about a mega level battle of Beelzemon versus Omnimon? These were and still are important questions worth asking for any Digimon fan. And these sorts of playground questions are why this game was created.

The gameplay features two opposing Digimon battling it out on one of the several different stages in a 2D plane. These stages are typically filled with unique stage hazards and ring out zones with randomly spawning items in the form cards which have a myriad of effects on the battle. These cards mirror the "Digi-Modify" or "Card Slash!" mechanics from the Digimon Tamers series . The roster is filled with Digimon supported by their appropriate tamers from the show with the same familiar voices for each character featuring over 20 playable Digimon. Unlike "Super Smash Bros" this game features a more traditional health bar system and draining your opponent's life bar to zero means victory. Each Digimon has two special moves and a myriad of normal attack strings you would expect in a fighting game. Right away in a way one would expect from this beloved franchise, Rookie level Digimon are capable of transforming into a stronger even more capable form in the middle of battle through Digivolution. Digivolving improves your stats and gives you a completely new different move-set than before meaning you as a player are often switching dynamically between different gameplay experiences. There are few things that feel better than securing a comeback victory with your favorite mascot Digimon because of a well timed Digivolution. Oh and wiping the floor with your opponent using Wargreymon's mighty signature technique, Terra Force.

The main modes of the game are arcade mode and versus modes. In the Arcade Mode you take your selected Digimon through an arcade style ladder of bouts plus a few mini-games along the way with the goal of unlocking more characters. That is until you reach the new big bad of the game at the top of the ladder. Reapermon (Also known originally as Gokumon or ゴクモン) is a very difficult opponent to overcome and even now he still manages to give me trouble. I and along with anybody else who has ever played this game know of the horrors of his most powerful technique "Burning Cyclone". He is a cheap old school style boss who will test your skill at the game as one would expect from an older fighting game eating your quarters though in this case you thankfully probably own the game and you have as long as necessary to defeat him. Thankfully if you are struggling you can use some in-game cheat codes to fast unlock some Mega level Digimon along with other goodies to help even the odds. As far as versus modes go you can battle a friend locally or even play the mini-games against them. I spent many sessions having tons of fun fighting friends in this game. For an early platform fighting game the controls and mechanics are quite responsive which makes for amusing competitive bouts.

The graphics and soundtrack of the game of the game are very impressive for the platform. The Japanese version of the game features many arrangements of songs from the anime series. However the game does have one big problem: the framerate slowdown is a persistent problem throughout the experience with this game. Unfortunately they are the game's immediate faults but the game has so much excellent fanservice content and a surprisingly responsive solid fighting game underneath that it is easy to forgive the shortcoming. This game is still pretty awesome and loaded with nostalgia for me having grown up with Digimon. This title gets my recommendation for any fans of Digimon to experience especially the Japanese version of the soundtrack if you are ever in need of a quick nostalgia-fueled adrenaline rush.

A gem hidden among the stones, Digimon Rumble Arena is unquestionably stardust.

BIOGRAPHY

On the night of June 15th, Nyx was born to two pureblood wizards. Roxas Timothée Moonshadow and Romielle Nyxiana Morningstar in Castlebay, Isle of Barra, Scotland. Where despite being born to pureblood wizarding parents, he was raised to believe that love was stronger than anything. It didn't matter the blood status of someone, if you love them and they were of consenting age then don't worry what other's think. Yet the couple that would babysit him when his parents were working, taught him to believe in the ideals of pureblood supremacy. Which confused him to the point he didn't know what he believed, yet as he grew older the more he realized that the ideals of pureblood supremacy was bullshit.

The more time Nyx had spent with Nolan and Saoirse Burke, the more it felt like they believe they were his parents. Felt like they were trying to get him to believe it too but when he mentioned to his parents and they talked to his babysitters about it, they would make it seem like he was crazy. Maybe he was crazy or maybe he was just confused, especially since they had their own kids, Nyoka Keres Burke and Preston Atreus Burke. Either way it's what it felt like to him, so much so that he didn't want to be around them. Rather go to work with either his father as his wand shop or his mother at her shop, which was a bookstore, a craft studio, an arcade, and a café. And luckily sometimes he was allowed to go with them but other times, he wasn't so lucky because he couldn't go with them so he was stuck with the babysitters who still kept giving him those unsettled vibes.

As Nyx grew, his love for adventures began to blossom. He would rather be out exploring than trapped inside all day, even liked pretend that he was sharing his findings with the world. It had amused his parents, his family, his friends, and even his babysitters at times. It almost amused most who witnessed but it seemed some weren't to happy that he was an adventurous and curious child, to the point he sometimes would find himself in trouble. But it was a cold, snowy December day shortly after he turned eight when unimaginable trouble found him, Nyx was out on one of his adventures with his dad, uncles, and cousins when warnings of a snow storm cut their adventure short. It was while they were on home when the incident occurred, Nyx was messing around like any typical kid one minute then the next minute he had fell through some ice when his father and uncle wasn't paying attention. It was pure chaos and panic that Nyx almost drowned in frigid water, he would have surely died if it wasn't for his uncle Lumi, who had jumped in and saved him last moment. For his uncles Kei and Jude, who pulled him out of the water so quick, for his father would had wrapped him into his own coat and rushed him home so he could get him help.

It was shortly after that, that his parents began to fight a lot. It had gotten so bad that a few months after Nyx turned ten, his parents split up. Then a few months after that, his mother moved her business and them to London, England while his father remained in Castlebay. At first Nyx was devastated, he didn't want to leave his father and home to start over. Yes, he was told that they'd be sharing custody over him, meaning he'd be taking turns staying in London with his mother and Castlebay with his father. But it just wasn't the same, yet it was his fault for all this wasn't it? Both of his parents say it wasn't but Nyx certainly felt like it was.

It had taken Nyx some time to adjust to the change but soon enough, he was back to exploring, back to adventuring. And while he still preferred Castlebay over London, Nyx was once again a happy child. Even happier when his Hogwarts letter arrived that August after he turned 11, was delighted when his father was the one who made his wand for him. Although he was a mixed emotions when he was sorted into Slytherin, especially after hearing rumors about his house but for most parts he loved everything about it. He managed to make a few close friends, made some enemies as well but he didn't let that stop him from having a good time.

And when the battle of Hogwarts happened, Nyx initially evacuated but he decided to sneak back to Hogsmeade and ending up joining the reinforcements. Once the war was over, Nyx decided to return to Hogwarts to finish his education because life went on. After Nyx graduated, he had managed to get his mother to spend that summer in Castlebay for old time sakes. Wanted to spend one last summer with both his parents before the biggest adventure of his life so far when he went to explore the world. Though during that summer, his old babysitters had tried to set him up with one of their kids. Even tried to convince his parents on an arranged marriage but they declined because they would never take away his free will and he loved them for that.
