One of my favorite things about the clones is that they name themselves like smurfs. They name the guy with a bunch of fives in his number Fives. They call the guy with stealthy echolalia Echo. They name the guy who likes computers Tech. A guy was called Cutup as a joke and proceeded to say NICE NAME CAN I HAVE IT. THE CLONE “SISTER” IN LORE IS ACTUALLY NAMED SISTER BECAUSE SHE’S THE ONLY KNOWN GIRL THEY SMURFETTED HER? And then of course I can only assume they named the biggest breaking bad fan of the 501st legion Jesse

Fiveslock Clones for @aknightreaderr

I totally got this idea from chapter 3 of The Diary of a Secret Foxiyo Shipper (written from Fives' POV), where I got inspired by this excerpt:

It’s investigative journalism at its finest. All I need now is a trench coat and some tortoiseshell round glasses.

But I suck at drawing glasses, so I changed them for a pipe, giving this a Sherlock Holmes kind of vibe. We already got Fivespeare, so I could totally picture a Fiveslock Clones as well.

Thanks for being such a great inspiration Mimi, I hope you like this art! I had fun drawing it, experimenting with a more messy way of colouring, because I thought it fitted the sketch-y style of the drawing.

That headcanon about Commander Fox faking Fives’ death and putting him in the Coruscant Guard under an assumed name is no comfort to me. It would either mean:

Fox convinced Fives to abandon his mission to reveal Palpatine’s plot. Fives is intentionally withholding information he knows would save the Jedi, the Republic, and his brothers just so he can stay hidden. Once a brave and selfless hero, he is now a callous and cynical shadow of what he used to be. Or:

Fox had all of Fives’ memories erased and replaced with false memories to fit Fives’ new identity. Fives forgot Echo and Hevy and Droidbait and Cutup and 99 and Rex and Hardcase and Tup and Jesse and Kix and AZI-3 and probably some other characters I am forgetting. Maybe traces of his lost memories bubble up to the surface sometimes and make him think he’s going insane. Maybe he doesn’t remember his old self at all; he has no sense of all that he’s lost. Of what was stolen from him.

okay but more on Jesse’s body language during the ‘execution’ scene

Jesse was so clearly not down for this, and if the look of horror on his face when Rex brings the news, subsequent impassioned speech, and his whole “Yeah, speak for yourself!” line to Fives isn’t enough to convince you, if you watch him throughout this scene, he is so deeply uncomfortable with what is going on -

After being asked if they would request to be blindfolded, notice how Fives stands solid as Jesse nervously glances his way, perhaps hoping Fives will have his trademark Balls™ and say something to stop this?? Where are the superiors here?? Is this really happening??

This contrast to Fives’ resoluteness is a continued theme, notice how Jesse is the one making nervous quips in the lead up as Fives stays silent:

Then after Fives’ dramatic speech (thank god for that because Rex was certainly not showing any signs of jumping in) and the ordering of the execution, LOOK:

Fives: concerned, surprised, but steady, stayed mostly standing, breaking into a small smile afterwards when he realises what he said worked

Jesse: PANIC, TERROR, CONFUSION, I DUCKED, FUCK ME, I CANNOT BELIEVE THE DAY I’M HAVING

Basically whilst Fives may have accepted his fate for the mission, Jesse most certainly did not, and seems pretty peeved that no one is listening to reason (or him! Fives totally dismisses his “who said I was joking” line??). Totally support the theory that post-Umbara he found it hard to process and fully trust Rex/the 501st and may have become an ARC trooper shortly afterwards in order to gain some distance from these traumatic events
