you ever think about how the LOV in its current form technically only exists because of izuku, like tomura was super pissy about toga and dabi at first but then after talking to izuku during the mall encounter, he realised what he needed to do

I think about this ALL THE TIME. I'VE WRITTEN POSTS ON THIS.

LOV stans who hate Izuku make me scratch my head because he's literally the only reason they exist. Or really, Tomura's weird fixation on Izuku (that was there before Toga and Dabi and everyone else even strolled in) is the reason they exist. Normal villains don't approach their enemies at the mall, reveal their face so that they can give an accurate description to the police (whereas before they had no idea what his face looked like), and vent their feelings out to them. Force information out of them? Sure, why not. Pretty normal villain thing to do. Not in a mall, but still if he were threatening his life for info, that'd be more expected than him venting his damn feelings (about wondering why people don't pay attention to him--it's really a mystery why that would irritate him huh/j). Like, if not for Tomura feeling like he was familiar enough with green boy from watching him from afar to approach him and ask for advice, LOV wouldn't exist. Toga and Dabi would have fucked right off.

(Duck Tales keeps coming up in conversations and I know nothing about it. Please educate me.)

So anyways, because I’m uncultured I’ve only seen the reboot, so I’m sorry it that isn’t helpful. It’s my silly little comfort show though. Basically, ducktales is a show about ducks going on adventures and becoming a found family, even though most of them are related.

It all starts when Donald (who is father of the year btw.) needs someone to babysit the color coded triplets (Huey, Dewey, and Louie). So, he drops them off at mcduck manor to meet Mr. Capitalism man (Scrooge) Now, Scrooge and Donald haven’t been talking for the last ten years. The reason why has to do with Donald’s twin sister Della and the spear of Selene, which is the on going mystery of season one. Scoots does not want to deal with three kids, so he puts them in a room with only marbles for entertainment. They sneak out and are captured by my blorbo Webby not Hatchetfield. Webby is a super fan of Scrooge and the rest of their family, and she lives in the mansion with her British grandmother Mrs. Beakley (she’s an ex spy btw) Anyways, the four of them go mess around with shit in the garage and accidentally awaken a dragon. Now, the kids and Scrooge gotta defeat it. A normal caretaker would be upset with them, but this is the push Mr. Capitalism needing to start liking kids again.

I’ve realized that was just an episode 1 summary, so if you wanna know about other characters or things that come up in other episodes, feel free to ask. Also, why does ducktales keep coming up in your conversations?

"Why's there a heart on my face?" James' voice is monotonous, giving away no emotion. He simply lays where he fell, the heart still laying across his face, seeping blood into his hair & skin.

Friedrich, with his coffee & blood stained coat, & his still broken & bandaged nose, sniffles, picking the heart up, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to drop it." His sniffles intensify as he holds the heart to his chest. Everything's going wrong, so wrong...

James picks himself up off the floor with a sigh, forcefully pulling Fritz onto his feet despite his protests. The moment Fritz looks up at James, the dam shatters, & he begins sobbing.

"Why does nothing ever go right for us!"

"C'mere, crybaby. What didn't go right?" James doesn't try to shush him, just wraps his arms around his boyfriend & lets him cry into his shoulder. Wordlessly, Friedrich peels back a muscle on the heart, revealing the engagement ring.

It takes James a moment to realise what he is looking at, the shiny metal of the ring completely obscured by the blood from the heart. And when he picks it up, the dust from his trek clumps onto the ring, leaving it dirtier than before.

"So, you finally grew up, huh?"

"Jamie!"

"What?" He laughs, cupping Friedrich's face & kissing him, "I've been waiting for ages for this!"

"Was?"

"Yeah, crybaby. Been waiting for you to finally make the move. C'mere, you." Friedrich is still crying, they are both still dirty & covered in blood, but they seem happy. Very happy.

He's not even That flawed as well considering his circumstances you can't tell me you wouldn't have done much of the same in his shoes people just tend to ignore or forget that the guy spent most of his childhood in a hospital not sure at times if he'd live to see the next day. The reality of an early death is so present in Eichis life if course he's not going to sit around it all makes perfect sense it's not hard to understand or relate to and from a utilitarian standpoint he's also done a lot right all of the stuff he did worked out in the end and for the better as well! Hadn't he pulled his strings almost the entire cast of enstars would now be in a worse place that's just a fact the war was a good thing to happen because it worked and sometimes sacrifices have to be made that's just how it goes I really don't understand why people can't understand that thought process I can understand the other side as well maybe it's because the way my brain functions but I don't think he's that bad? I mean no duh the Eichi lovemail blog likes Eichi but I mean in my maybe biased but trying to be unbiased opinion of the thing I do see his actions have led to people getting hurt and all that sure but no matter what you do no matter what you say no matter how much you hate Eichi Tenshouin. You will not hate him more than he hates himself that's my main issue too that people talk like he's this remorseless mass murderer of it weren't for Wataru he very well would've put an end to his life in that hospital room by refusing treatment until he kicks it that was very much a plan he had you don't get to look at Eichi as a character and the immense amounts of guilt that man carries around just to then go "Well if he at least felt sorry for it" just read blackbird it's a very simple enstars text and it is an enrichment to the soul. Everyone go read blackbird actually that's the best thing to come out of enstars 2023 along with the fone climax which they should've put last btw because that way they could've made a pun out of it you know how I mean with fine being the end and for the last climax yeah I'll shut up now

👁️Overview 

Late last year, I rather belatedly discovered Mononoke’s 15th anniversary came and went, and with it, an entire swath of new content to manically pore over. This is an illustration of the various Mononoke merchandise, props, and set dressing I discovered.

🔎Scope

Some fun facts regarding the work that went into this illustration!

Not including research time, this project ran for roughly two months, consuming much of my waking hours outside of my full time and freelance jobs.

While the illustration does not depict all of my findings, it does feature over 120 unique props and set dressings!

The majority of the props and set dressing were modeled to varying degrees of detail in SketchUp.

To model prep, I often put together schematics on Photoshop or Illustrators. Some were created from scratch. Others were created with the liberal usage of the Photoshop transform and perspective warp function. 

The master file is 1.5GB. The dimensions are 6400x3600 at 300 dpi, and contains over 2,200 layers. 

Near the end of production, the master file became so unwieldy I created a separate working file. This way, I could create assets lag-free then import the layers into the master file.

🗳️3D Layout

As you can see, the backbone of this illustration is the 3D model. I spent perhaps 30-40% of my production time on this stage.

And this is the lit version. The lighting ultimately got downplayed in favor of showcasing the vibrant colors. I like how simple it looks though!

🎬Production-Based Set Dressing

In addition to merchandise, I wanted to insert set dressing and props from the various Mononoke productions. 

🦊Kusuriuri

It’s odd to have a section dedicated just to him, but his unique appearance warrants it. His garb and overall appearance is an amalgam of the anime and movie. The original intent was ambiguity– kind of like the blue/black vs. yellow/white dress phenomena a few years back. But after doing the color flats, I rather liked how the rich, unaltered colored fit with the overall composition so it became more blatant. I’m surprised that nobody has commented on this since I published the illustration. Maybe because I didn’t feature him in a close-up?

🐈 kai ~Ayakashi~Bake Neko (2006)

Finding props iconic to this story arc (outside of the Kusuriuri’s tools of trade, of course) was somewhat difficult. While the environment was richly decorated, it mainly consisted of 2D artwork which I wasn’t keen on retracing. I opted to paint objects that characters interacted with or featured heavily in the show.

☂️Mononoke: Karakasa (2024)

Pretty slim pickings for the new movie since I only had the teaser, first trailer, and movie poster to reference from. Kusuriuri’s tools of trade were a given, but finding memorable and narratively significant objects was a tad troublesome.

Thankfully, the set dressing ended up (however subconsciously) strikingly similar to the movie’s environment design, down to the green tatami and multicolor shoji screen. I suppose at this point I was so immersed in Mononoke content that its aesthetics subconsciously informed my design choices!

I've felt for a while that Deku is like the Tohru to Shigarakis Akito lol. I feel like MHA and Fruits Basket have so much in common. I love that Deku has met all these people that need help and he is able to be there for them. But kinda like Tohru, he sacrifices his own wellbeing too much and he needs to accept help from others. I also love that characters like Todoroki are similar to Yuki. They receive help from Deku but then grow on their own as well and become a positive force to help others.

!!!!! This comparison has been in my head for a very long time, yeah.

I think that's what turns people off to Midoriya as a protag because he's far more similar to a freaking shojo female lead than a shounen male lead aks;gaskgn Personally I find that both hilarious and great but not everybody feels that way lol.

There are people who hate it because he's not their tough guy kick-ass tough exterior protag, and people who hate it because he's not as complex as the villains..or something along those lines.

Sometimes the protagonist halo of "selfless to a fault" is just who the character is. Either you like the trope or you don't, but trying to make it into some awful crime against the manga is stupid imo and it's better just to admit it's not a trope you like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But tbh I do find it interesting that ✨for some reason✨ it's perfectly fine for Tohru to have that protag halo and people receive it super well in Fruits Basket but god forbid Midoriya have the same type of characterization and because of this specific trope played into him he's just so god awfully written 🙄. What's the difference between the two characters and genre? Lol we'll be up all night trying to figure that out.

No but seriously. I 100% get the comparisons to Naruto and I've made them myself, but I find much more in common with a manga like Fruits Basket, as you said. Especially because much like BNHA, Fruits Basket covers dark topics that can be icky to think about, it covers different reactions and victims, it talks about forgiveness and resentfulness and family dynamics and relationships, connections, bonds, all of that stuff. BNHA covers interpersonal dynamics with much more detail like Fruits Basket. You can go back to early chapters, look at the characters that are in the forefront of the conflict of the endgame and see exactly why each pair of characters was matched up together.

Also you've completely opened my eyes to the Shouto|Yuki comparison. God you're so right. I've mentioned this being one of the things I liked about Shouto's healing so much but he's one of the few characters who has almost complete independence in his healing and his choices to move forward. I love a dynamic where someone is so damn helpless that they're depending on someone else's kind heart to survive, and I'm getting that with the villains, but Shouto himself is a breath of fresh air.

Tomura really is like Akito, where he fights his salvation over and over and over and rejects any implication that someone may want better for him and is just lost in self-hatred to the point that it's going to swallow him-----up until the very last second. Yeah, that's him, and Akito. It's also crazy comparing it because Tohru and Akito didn't interact much to each other, and all they had to go off of was the butterfly effects their actions had on each other and how everything they did eventually reached the other and that's how that connection was strong enough by the end for Akito to accept help. Sounds very familiar to me. Man, wild.

I said I wanted that scene with Rin and Tohru recreated with Tomura and Izuku and I mean that, but I do think Akito and Tohru are more similar a dynamic to the BNHA bunny and cat duo.

Also this is what I mean by BNHA has boiled down to "I can fix him" being the answer LOL

"I (Izuku, Shouto, Ochacko) can fix him (Tomura, Touya, Toga)" 💀

Fruits Basket was very much like that also with pretty much no irony at all 😂
