Maybe I’m just coping, but here’s why the cliffhanger isn’t absolute hell (also sorry if I’m not the first to say this):

TLDR: Esther’s behavior looks to me like someone who has confirmed that the person in front of her is unconscious and she is only somewhat worried.

From my years of being active as a first aider, what you do if you don’t get a fairly quick response out of someone by verbally or physically addressing them is check their breathing. By holding your hand or cheek or a phone (something that fogs up) etc in front of their mouth and nose. Preferably while tilting their head back but that’s not the point here.

Esther is slapping Leo’s face, and her hand is positioned in front of and near his mouth. After not getting a response, she doesn't appear to progress to the next step of properly checking his breathing.

My impression is that she’s instead attempting to console Adam. Which leads me to believe that she was able to feel Leo breathing. She kept her head cool throughout the episode, so for her to drop the ball on something so big seems unlikely to me. Ideally she would be turning him over to stop him from choking on his own vomit or tongue (especially in contrast to the front of his face leaning on Adam’s thigh making a nice vomit slope into his lungs), but as long as they’re keeping a close eye on him, I won’t complain too much. Thanks for coming to my coping session/special interest oversharing.

Also, maybe it’s obvious that he’s breathing, but I can’t tell with all the movement going on and especially with how heavy Adam is breathing.

thinking about mafia shen family au. the system is fucking around with shen qingqius life again and is like yk what if ur not gonna tell your husband anything about yourself then ill force you to. have fun! :D

sqq doesn’t even have the time to think 'wtfff??' before Everything Happens. shen yuan’s soul gets shoved back into his original body just moments before he dies. in this version of the au he was choking on food, so he gets the lovely experience of having his airflow blocked again! lucky for him, the system dragged binghe along for the ride so he is saved before he dies again.

this route for mafia au means that the shen family never had to grieve shen yuan. im not sure how the Family reacts to their a-yuan suddenly having a very strong and intimidating significant other (boyfriend? husband?!??? wdym he got married without telling us!?!?) all of a sudden. does shen yuan come out to his family?? no, but also yes, but also not really. they knew he wasn't straight this entire time, so its more like they are coming out to him instead of the other way around. god knows they have bigger skeletons in their closets, they don't care if a twink is in there too.

there is less angst here, and it mostly centers around the comedic factor of shen yuan showing binghe around his house only for them to "stumble upon" an entire closet filled with guns..!?! shen yuan is just standing there in complete horror as binghe grabs a whole ass ar-15!?!?? hes looking at him with the most innocent eyes asking him what this strange metal object is. jesus fucking christ. his white lotus is holding a gun and now he has to explain gun control policies while his brain is leaking out of his ears. he opens his mouth right before an alarm starts blaring everywhere. he’s saved by the bell! except not really, because now six members of his Family are surrounding them and pointing several guns at binghe!!!!! what the actual fuck is going on here!!!!!! this is not how the 'meet the parents' arc is supposed to go!!

On the subject of Roo, I don’t think she and Eve are the same person as most fans speculate. If Roo and Eve do have a connection, I see it as either Eve being her unwitting vessel as a result of eating from the tree of knowledge or Roo just taking on her appearance as a twisted form of homage to the “first sinner”. I honestly think she was actually the tree of knowledge itself or at least connected to it in some way (notice how in the story the tree was glowing red down to the roots in contrast to the mostly black and white background), having used the fruit to spread sin to Earth through Eve. Regarding her nature, I believe Roo is the embodiment of Sin itself, hence why she’s commonly referred to as the “Root of all Evil” in the fan theories, which in a way makes her the “heart” of Hell. As for personality, I would say she’s everything Alastor pretends to be (an unfettered force of chaos inflicting suffering and pain for the lols rather than an insecure manchild trying to boost his pathetically fragile ego) but much worse.

Okay, so funny enough I am actually currently working on a post discussing/theorizing on, among other things, EXACTLY this idea and the connection between Roo and Eve. So while I won't go too much into detail, here's a response and a bit of a preview:

I think it's not so much that Roo IS Eve, but rather that Roo is what Eve has become. Or rather, what PART of Eve has become, because I think we may actually have multiple aspects of Eve floating around (as to who at least one of those aspects might be... well, you'll just have to wait for the post XD)

Though when it comes to the nature of Roo herself, I think this image the fandom has of Roo being this 'Root of All Evil', 'Unfettered Force of Chaos', 'Embodiment of Sin', 'Heart of Hell itself', 'Ultimate Big Bad of the Show', I do this this is the case...

BUT only because these are all the things Eve believes about herself.
