summary - arber and the habs are preparing for the biggest deal they’ve taken on. Burning the midst of their preparations, arber encounters his achilles heel brings everything into perspective

“Arber, can you zip me up please babe?”

You called out from the bathroom as you put the finishing touches on your outfit, Arber happy to oblige and assist you. He smiled as he saw you in the mirror, looking you up and down over and over. As if you still took his breath away even after all this time.

“You-“

He paused as he trailed kisses from your shoulder across your back, ending at the opposite side.

“look fucking beautiful baby.”

His palms slowly slid down your arms, the one on your left side stopping as it fell over your scar that was raised from the skin.

“Don’t worry, I have a shawl, just haven’t put it on yet.”

A soft smile fell over your lips, knowing Arber hated to see the scar on your arm as it reminded him of the day you’d met and how he’d been the one to hurt you. Still wishing he could take that day back. Though if he did, you might have never crossed his path.

It was a normal trade for Arber and The Habs, things were going according to plan. Until Cole was accused of wearing a wire and the men wanted to call things off. Guns were drawn, shots were fired, and had you known going for a run that morning would lead you to catching a stray bullet; you would’ve stayed home for sure.

Surely the men would’ve never thought that an innocent bystander would be in the area of the abandoned warehouse. But this area was one of your favorite routes to take for your morning runs. And as you jogged down the normal path past the open door of the larger factory building, you hadn’t heard the sounds of gunfire over the music filling your headphones. The pain was immediate as the bullet hit your arm, the shock interrupting your stride as you screamed in pain and fell to the ground. The last thing you remember was Arber appearing by your side before you passed out from the adrenaline and shock.

“No, it’s okay baby. No shawl tonight, I’m sorry that I’ve made you hide your scar for so long. I just, I hate seeing how I hurt you. I can never forgive myself for that day.”

As he zipped your dress, you turned to face him as you smoothed down the collar of his suit jacket. Stealing a kiss as you smiled at him.

“Yes, but imagine if that day didn’t happen, we might not be standing here together today.”

Arber always appreciated your optimism, never once holding the accident against him. Always telling him that it was fate or meant to bring the two of you together. Whether or not he believed you, he chose to agree despite how much he hated himself every day for ever putting you in harm's way. Whether or not he knew that risk was ever possible.

“I love you.”

“I love you too Arber.”

The drive to the restaurant was quiet, Arber deep in thought as he kept a hand resting on your thigh. You don’t always get to accompany him to dinners with potential dealers, but for the more important ones he opted to have you by his side. Sometimes the persuasion of an attractive girl helped to seal the deal, other times he just needed you to keep him calm.

Tonight’s dinner had the potential to solidify one of the biggest trades in Arber’s career. Juraj had found a connection overseas that was looking to bring a handful of luxury cars into Montreal. Arber was still new to the automotive trade, so Juraj’s connections were very important.

“Reservation for Slafkovsky.”

Arber took your hand as he led the way, following behind the hostess as she guided you to a private room in the back of the restaurant. Juraj and the rest of The Habs already seated and enjoying drinks while the men that were set to meet the group had yet to arrive. You took your place next to Arber, a hand resting on his thigh as he and Juraj began to discuss the game plan. You found it best to not get too invested into the conversation, preferring to know as little as possible, especially in the cases of the more dangerous dealers The Habs would be working with.

“Ahh gentleman!”

Juraj greeted the two men as they were escorted in by the hostess, each of The Habs taking a turn to introduce themselves. The two men each took your hand and bid you hello before they found their seats. Both of them continued to sneak glances as Juraj ordered a round of shots for the table.

The dinner was going as you would have expected. Lots of talk of the cars they’d be looking to import, the conditions of the trade, the boring side of things in your eyes.

“And what about this gorgeous young lady? Can we make her part of the deal?”

The men laughed, though Arber hardly even smirked. He hated when men looked at you or made suggestive comments. His hand gripped a little tighter at your thigh as you saw his jaw clench, trying to hold his composure as The Habs attempted to laugh off the comment.

“No sir, unfortunately she is not included.”

Juraj chimed in to try and lighten the mood, though it was clear that Arber was unhappy with the men and they could see it all over his face.

You tried to calm him down, whispering in his ear to get him to relax. Knowing that the last thing he needed was for these men to find a way to get under his skin. But little did you know it was far too late, and they’d seen everything they needed to see.

The night wrapped up with things in somewhat of a better mood. Arber calmed down enough to shake the hands of the men before they headed on their way, though he was ready to lose his mind on Juraj for bringing around anyone that would make comments about you like they had.

The drive back to the house was quiet, the rev of the engine all you heard as Arber kept a hand tight to your thigh. His thumb tracing circles over your skin as you gently ran your nails along his skin.

Once inside, he asked you to head upstairs and run a bath, as he and the guys needed to debrief from the dinner. You obliged, knowing it was best to not get in the middle of business, though it was written all over Arber’s face he was ready to unload on Juraj.

You’d opted for a shower versus a bath, tired from dinner and just wanting to climb into bed for the night. The shouting from the guys downstairs still occurring even after your lengthy rinse. You weren’t trying to eavesdrop but it was hard with the way Arber’s voice carried throughout the house. He mentioned something about Juraj not doing enough research on these men beforehand and the possibility of them being shady businessmen. Though you knew it had nothing to do with them being shady, but rather everything to do with the facts they made comments about you. It wasn’t the first time and certainly wouldn’t be the last, but you wondered why Arber would invite you if he didn’t want men to even look at you let alone make comments or jokes.

Soon enough you heard the arguing cease and the sounds of the men’s cars starting up outside, letting you know the men were heading out and Arber would be up to join you.

“Hey baby.”

He let out a sigh as he stood behind you while you finished up your skincare, his hands holding tight to your waist as he rested his chin on your shoulder. Watching you through the mirror with a smile.

“You were a bit harsh don’t you think?”

Shooting him a playful glare, you watched as he hung his head embarrassed. Never wanting you to hear the way he yelled or got angry with the guys.

“Babe, you heard those guys tonight. You know I don’t like comments being made about you, I’m sorry I want to keep you safe.”

“From some comments? Baby, they were complimenting the fact that you have a hot girl on your arm. I didn’t take it personally, plus if you don’t want men making comments maybe you should’ve left me at home.”

You moved from Arber’s grip, discarding the throw pillows as you prepped the bed for you both to climb in.

“All I’m saying is, you didn’t need to be so harsh on Juraj. From what I heard at that dinner, this could be an amazing opportunity for you guys that could make you a shit ton of money. He worked really hard to make this deal possible for you guys. Who the fuck cares they made a comment about me? Just ignore it for the sake of making one of the highest paying deals in your life, okay?”

Arber climbed into bed next to you, stealing a kiss before pulling you into his chest.

“You’re right, I’m sorry. I just, I care about you so much. And hearing these random men make jokes or comments, it’s aggravating. Because I never want you being put in a bad position where anything could happen to you. And you’re right, I could maybe not be so harsh on the guys. I just want this to go off without a hitch. No one to get hurt, and we bring home the money.”

“Nothing is going to happen, you have an amazing group of guys and you are prepared for anything. Don’t worry about them, or me, okay?”

Sixteen year old Remington sat next to Luke in the corner of a restaurant in Vancouver.

It was pretty late at night and they have been out all day as today was the 2019 NHL Draft, and a lot of people all joined together at the restaurant to celebrate together.

Remington had felt he socialized more than enough for one day and sat with Luke as far as possible away from everyone.

The two best friends were laughing a lot watching their brothers and friends do karaoke.

Luke slid out of his seat going to the bathroom and leaving Remington alone, making Remington pull out his phone and start scrolling.

Remington felt a body flop down next to him in the booth and throw an arm over his shoulder, his body shuddered slighty at the touch and knew exactly who it was, Cole.

Remington has now known Cole for over two years and he would maybe consider Cole a friend now but Cole was always going to be his older brother’s best friend.

Remington knew he had a crush on Cole, Cole was the first guy he ever had a crush on but he knows it can never be anything more because of Trevor.

Anytime Cole and Remington are ever alone within in minutes Trevor has interrupted them, Remington knows Trevor doesn’t even realize what he is doing but it only reminds Remington why being with Cole can never happen.

With Cole getting drafted to Montreal and heading to Wisconsin for College, Remington hoped the distance would make him lose any feelings he has for Cole and finally get over him.

“Hey Remi!” Cole shouted beaming extremely wide, Remington could smell the alcohol coming off of Cole.

“Hello Cole.” Remington spoke back his shoulders tense with how close Cole is and how much he is touching him.

Cole reached up and started playing with Remington’s hair, “It’s so pretty.” Cole looked enthralled as he looked and played with Remington’s blonde hair.

“Thank you.” Remington stoically said trying not to lean into Cole’s touch knowing he is just drunk and Cole is a touchy drunk.

“You’re so pretty.” Cole softly spoke rubbing his fingers across Remington’s face and before he could even think about responding.

“Coley!” Trevor shouted looking just as drunk as Cole as he stumbled over to the pair, “Remi!” Trevor happily gasped as he saw his baby brother there and pulled him into a hug.

“Come Coley, Jacky has a new song for us to sing.” Trevor let go of his baby brother and wrapped an arm around his best friend instead.

Remington watched as Trevor dragged Cole away and realized Trevor had interrupted them again, it was just another reminder that Remington needed to get over Cole.

summary: arber and the habs are preparing for the biggest heist they’ve taken on. But in the midst of their preparations, arber encounters his achilles heel that brings everything into perspective

note: the name of arber’s gang is “the habs”….Let me know your thoughts on this little intro to the story! Apologies if this sucks or isn’t much, i fully intend on it picking up, just felt like setting context was necessary!

Part 1

The Habs are the last group of people you’d ever want to involve yourself with. Yet here you are.

Montreal’s most notorious organized crime family that run the city's underground import market. Guns, cars, drugs- they do it all. Led by Arber Xhekaj, a man whom no one would dare to cross.

A little over a year ago you found yourself caught up in a heist that went sideways. You were never supposed to be around when Arber and his guys narrowed in on a group of men who had done him dirty. Luckily you weren’t seriously hurt, though Arber insisted you go with him so he could be sure. And from that day on, you’d become the only thing that could turn him soft. Like you were his kryptonite, his one and only weakness.

Arber had followed in his father’s footsteps the day he’d begun toying with the idea of a future in the Montreal underground import trade. But he’d surpassed his father and then some once he’d become the leader of The Habs. His ability to control the illegal import trade in every category had The Habs labeled as enemy number one for all rival crime groups, which only made his life that much more exciting.

Aside from Arber, there were five other men who helped make up The Habs. Each of them having their own role within the group.

Florian was Arber’s younger brother and made up one half of the “collectors” of The Habs. If anyone owed Arber any debts, Florian would be assigned to collect. He was fairly soft spoken, definitely kept to himself amongst the group. But would go to the ends of the earth for Arber, and vice versa. Florian was the only other person, aside from you, that Arber had a soft spot for.

Kirby was the other half of the “collectors”, and probably one of the biggest pests on the planet. If talking shit was a job, he’d be employee of the month year round. His favorite part of his role, interrogating and getting under the skin of clients. Arber oftentimes has to reel Kirby in, his mouth being one of his best attributes, but also a major caveat that got him trouble religiously.

Cole was honestly the one key to The Habs you still don’t quite understand, but it works. He’s one of the smartest dumb people you’d ever met. He was responsible for all the undercover work that helped gather information for safer heists and collections. He was never someone that would be suspected, and that’s what made him perfect for his role. Able to gain intel that would seem nearly impossible to gather otherwise, but Cole had his ways.

Juraj was the foreign piece to the puzzle, having connections overseas that helped with getting anything needed from outside of Canada. He played a crucial role in finding partners overseas that could help guarantee continuous flow of imports for all of Arber’s clients. The Habs would be nothing without Juraj’s connections, as they have kept The Habs ahead of anyone else when it comes to what they are able to push. Though he is young, his knowledge exceeds his years when it comes to bringing in guns, cars, and drugs.

Last but not least, Nick. The sole reason The Habs can do anything successfully. Nick is the brains behind so many drops and heists. His bedroom at Arber’s mansion was filled with more tech equipment than a Best Buy. Always coming up with new security measures for the group, or mapping out the safest escape routes if deals go south. Nick was the main reason you ever felt safe being along for the ride on any of Arber’s drops. He was always two steps ahead, ready for any situation a client or other gang might try to throw at The Habs.

Your role within The Habs was simple: don’t get caught in the middle of anything. Arber had made it clear once the two of you had started dating that he couldn’t handle anything ever happening to you. The day you’d come into his life had been a lot for him to begin with. And he swore that he’d never let anything bad ever happen to you again. But his line of work almost made that promise seem impossible for him to keep.

Most of the time you went along for the ride when Arber was doing smaller deals, or when it was routine business that posed no threats. Rarely would Arber include you if there was the possibility of weapons being necessary. And the others had come to learn that as much as the drugs and guns were important to protect; you were Arber’s most prized possession.

Remington and Luke were sitting in one of the hallway in the U.S.A. hockey arena waiting for their brothers to finish up practice.

Remington threw his head back cackling at Luke and Luke laughed just as hard his forehead smacking onto Remington’s shoulder.

“What are you two gremlins doing?” Trevor called out as walked out with Jack, Cole and Alex seeing Luke and Remington just absolutely cackling on the floor.

“Nothing.” Remington spluttered out once Luke and him calmed down.

Trevor walked over leaning down holding out a hand for his baby brother, Remington took his hand standing up and held out a hand for Luke, who took it standing up as well.

Trevor gasped realizing his brother hasn’t met Cole yet, Trevor threw an arm around his baby brothers should “Remi this is Coley. Coley this is my baby brother Remi.” Trevor proudly introduced his brother to Cole and ruffled Remington’s hair making Remington groan and try to fix it.

“Hi.” Remington greeted and looked over at Cole freezing as they met each other’s eyes.

Remington and Cole stared at each other for long enough to Luke to fake a cough and make them reluctantly look away.

“Hi.” Cole softly whispered back after he snapped out of his awe.

“Good now all my favorite people have met.” Trevor cheered happily squeezing his brother’s shoulder.

Trevor didn’t realize he interrupted the moment between Remington and Cole and it would not be the last time he did that.

if an author has an old work they and other people love would love a revisit especially if a player has since been traded or injured or even retired love to see where old relationships have gone in a one shot

I would love to see fics break away from the mould of traditional romance novels! I'm not a fan of third act breakups or other unnecessary issues for the sake of plot, and I think there are a lot of ways to write a good story without those elements and would love to see the creativity that comes from exploring alternatives!!

Angst and make-ups that don’t end in sex. I like that there’s other ways to makeup. Also good communication!! As someone who has never been in a relationship, good communication is great for me to like start to understand what a healthy relationship could look like
