☾ COLD SHOULDERS ; PARK GUNWOOK
gunwook masterlist / zb1 masterlist ; wc 0.975k
➛ genre ; angst - fluff ➛ warning ; cursing , mentions of food
🎧— sorry this took so long anddd i think i also got carried away with this one..
the tension in the living room was intolerable. the rectangle room which was once considered a safe haven turned into some kind of war-zone.
snarky remarks with raised voices and the added passive aggressiveness bounced off the four brick walls and into the emotions of the couple sitting on the couch.
“ it’s not my fault you were scolded today. “
“ and ? how does that play into this right now , you clearly knew i was in a bad mood and you still couldn’t let me cool off. “
“ i just asked you to eat the dinner i prepared. i literally spoke three words. “
gunwook let out an annoyed ‘ tsk ‘ , rolling his eyes and he stared holes into the electronic device he was suddenly so interested in.
“ no one asked you to prepare it , god you’re so naggy. “
as if his actions weren’t enough to full the bubbling anger in you , the absolute ungratefulness was the breaking point.
“ …fuck you. “
leaving the couch in a huff you grabbed the necessities for the night and threw them in the guest room , slamming the door shut.
the next day rolled around after a rather unsettling sleep. out of habit you reached out your hand to the other side of the bed before realising the person that usually greets you every morning was no where in sight.
you sighed out of frustration and a slight hint of embarrassment as well.
ding !
the rectangular device vibrated on the white sink , which almost caused it to fall off the curved edge. somehow the spidy sense in you managed to catch it in time , a sigh of relief escaping your lips.
with a toothbrush half sticking out of you mouth and toothpaste smothered around your lips you smiled at the silly conversation with your friend.
‘ y/n bbg wna watch the little mermaid today ? my treat. ‘
‘ now ? ‘
‘ starts in 3 hours , meet me for lunch at coex. ‘
‘ ight thanks sugar mommy. ‘
after putting on a comfortable outfit for the day and one last quick comb of your hair you begrudgingly opened the door dreading the thought of seeing the culprit of all your anger from the previous night.
‘ out the door at last , ‘ you thought , ‘ never have i ever been this happy to get out of the house. ‘
the day out definitely cheered boosted the once sour mood and took your mind off the problem. movie , arcade games and even a spontaneous aquarium trip also ripped that bank account. [ me fr ]
“ are you sure you don’t want me to drop you off at your apartment lobby ? “
“ nah i wanna hit the convenience store anyways , see you at school. “
“ see you , and do your homework. “
“ bye mother. “
you watched as the silver car drove off leaving you walking towards the said convenience store.
picking up the ramen package and a drink you considered getting a snack for gunwook as well.
‘ he can get his own shit. ‘ the little devil sitting on your shoulder whispered into your ear.
click click click !
ah… home sweet home.
the empty bundled up plastic bag served as a coaster for the cold drink , the seasoning scattered across the counter and the open packet of noodles , together with its consumer , waited rather impatiently for the water to boil.
“ where did you go ? “
a voice came from the hallway which its owner came crawling out of the darkness right after.
he walked into the light of the kitchen with disheveled hair and hands behind his back staring at the floor.
a spark of annoyance rushed through your veins as you fought an internal battle to not roll your eyes at the sheer sound of his voice.
ding !
saved.
saved by the water boiler of all things.
you turned your back to him suddenly being extremely invested into the process of preparing ramen.
a few shuffles were heard behind you and a small ‘ sorry ‘ before the soft sound of the door closing caused a surge of relief.
you did feel bad for ignoring him but the small grudge you held against him plus the added pettiness constantly persuaded you that ignorance was the best solution.
the next few days played out about the same way.
to you it was an internal conflict of whether to forgive him now or carry on with this silence.
but to gunwook this was his version of hell.
arguments rarely happen.
small ones , sure but they were solved in about five minutes he couldn’t bare to see you upset over his actions. [ even if it wasn’t his fault ]
he’s tried almost everything he could think of , trying to strike up conversations with dumb questions , leaving food on the table for you after a long day of school which he’d hide in the hallway and take a quick glance or two to see if you’d eat it.
bringing you water while you’re locked up in your room even organising the mess on your desk hoping you’d notice and say something.
but you were still ignoring him.
gunwook was at his breaking point.
and so once again today you came back home from a tiring day of school ready to retreat into the guest room for some much needed youtube when you were suddenly engulfed into a warm embrace.
one at you shared with a certain someone.
“ im sorry.. please stop ignoring me. “
he muttered and muzzled himself into your collarbone while practically squeezing you against himself.
“ sorry too i should’ve just let you cooled off before saying anything. “
he shook his head and you felt tears trickle down.
“ its my fault… im sorryy “
you felt his grip tighten which made you instinctively chuckle and ruffle his hair.
“ don’t cry you big baby. “
“ im not ! “
he whined but made no effort to stop or wipe his tears away.
“ yeah yeah sure you aren’t babe. “

340.Unanticipated Visitor
뜻밖의 방문객
We found a place to sit, at the top of a hotel building near the COEX center. Peace let out a small yawn from my lap. I dispelled my camouflaging Skill as no one would be able to spot us up here, and ate a spoonful of the beaded ice cream I’d snuck from the aquarium. I’d made sure to leave payment, of course. Though it probably would’ve just seemed like someone’s misplaced money.
“Don’t have too much, sir.”
Noah chided me as I dug the spoon back into the mound of roly-poly ice cream beads. Even after all the coaxing I’d done back at the aquarium after his whispered objection about how I shouldn’t eat it, I’d only been able to talk him into letting me get one cup.
“It’s not as though there’s much in here to begin with, in any case. Here.”
Telling Noah-ssi that he should try some too, I offered him a spoonful. Honestly, they were far too stringent with my dietary allowances as of late. Although it was true, that reduced snacking and eating three square meals a day was far better for your health.
“I’d been impressed by the Seseung Guild Leader’s fish tanks at the time, but an actual aquarium is on a whole different playing field, after all.”
I wondered what might’ve ended up happening with Sung Hyunjae-ssi’s housing situation, now that I thought about it. The apartment was only for temporary stay, and well, his original residence had completely collapsed in on itself. He probably had two or more back-up houses already for such a case, though, I imagined
“There really were very many fish.”
Noah said, a smile on his lips. We’d had to spend a bulk of our time avoiding fellow sightseers, but even then, we’d managed to cover a lot of ground. And sneaking around had been pretty fun, too. When a crowd of people was bearing down upon us, Noah would occasionally pick me up and fly us into the air. They’d be startled by the sudden gust of air sweeping over them, in those instances.
Just then, I got a text. It was from Min Sohan.
[ Would a part-time position be feasible as well? While I’m in school still. ]
Even though she’d acted as though she was completely disinterested, hmm.
[ Yes, that would be fine, miss. You’ve had a change of heart, it seems. ]
[ The terms were pretty good too, sir, but mostly because it wouldn’t stop bugging me, after all. ]
‘Because it wouldn’t stop bugging me’–did she mean Noah’s situation, perhaps? Or maybe she meant that she thought I might end up getting swindled. In any case, a part-time position would work just fine. After responding that she should go ahead and get in touch with the Haeyeon HR team, I turned to Noah.
“Min Sohan-ssi’s let me know that she intends to come work at the Rearing Facility as well.”
“The person we’d just met with, sir?”
“Yes. I suspect it’s due to Noah-ssi more than me, however.”
She might pretend otherwise, but she actually did enjoy taking care of people a fair bit. Min Sohan sent back an affirmative, and asked if part-timers were provided housing too. When I replied ‘yes,’ she said that a smaller pyong location would suffice, as it would be a pain to clean otherwise. I responded that she’d just need to keep the floor clear, and use a roomba. There were a lot of nice household appliances, after all. I should let her know to pick a place that came with a dishwasher and a compost disposal provided, and a recycling area within a convenient distance.(1)
Yoohyunie had attempted to go straight to incineration, when I’d groused a bit about how difficult it was to put out the trash for our house. The issue of landfills may have been just about solved with the appearance of Dungeons, but recycling was still important.
“She told me she plans on working part-time while still attending school–and come to think of it, Min Sohan-ssi’s school has a Hunter track, I believe. Noah-ssi, would you be interested in attending university next year?”
The last time I’d asked, I hadn’t been able to hear his response on account of events rapidly escalating.
“...I’m not sure, sir. Partly because I’ve been on and off again in my schooling as well.”
“But you attended up to the point you’d Awakened?”
Noah gave a small nod.
“I believe there shouldn’t be any issues, then. High-ranked Hunters are allowed to obtain an equivalency through Dungeon raid contributions, you see. You can hardly penalize the front-line responders when they’re doing their duty to deescalate a catastrophic situation, after all. Yoohyunie just about never attended classes after Awakening, either. Since protecting the country took greater precedence.”
I’d loitered around his school a few times regardless, on the off chance that I’d be able to run into him on his way to class–but we’d never crossed paths. When the situation had been far more dire, with all the Dungeon bursts going on, it was little wonder that an S-rank Hunter wouldn’t be permitted the leisure to do something like attend school. Back in the early days of Dungeon appearances, there had been so many school closures that whether or not the college entrance exams would still be held had even become a popular topic of discussion. The day before the entrance exams, there had been a lot of kids who’d come under fire for posting online that they hoped a Dungeon break would occur near the exam grounds.
“They still hardly attend class, as far as I’m aware. Though it’d be good for them to attend regularly, in my opinion.”
“...and yourself, Yoojin-ssi?”
“Hm?”
“The Breaker Guild Leader–she mentioned that it’d be good for you to have a degree under your belt too, sir. Are you planning to attend university next year as well, perhaps?”
“Ah… I had been considering putting in the effort to at least get accepted somewhere, for a start.”
I suspected that even if I hadn’t been intending to do so, I’d be forced to apply anyway. By Seok Shimyoung, in particular.
“I’d be willing to attend, if Yoojin-ssi enrolls as well.”
“But seeing as my only interest lies in getting the diploma, I doubt I would physically attend classes, though.”
I’d suggested Noah-ssi enroll because I’d wanted him to be able to experience an ordinary campus life, after all. And if Noah started attending somewhere, chances were that Kang Soyoung would follow on his heels–plus, if they ended up going to the same school as Sohanie, she’d look out for him as well. And where had Minnie enrolled, again.
“If Yoojin-ssi attended classes, I expect that the Haeyeon Guild Leader would begin to show up as well.”
“That’s…….”
W-was that right. But, if I enrolled at the school Yoohyunie went to, that meant I would be considered his hoobae. Not that it seemed likely that Yoohyunie would want me to treat him as my sunbae, but still…….(2) What would a university lifestyle entail, I wondered. What knowledge did I even have about campus life, anyway. There were the festivals, and club activities, I guessed.
“Well, at any rate–since I’ll be ‘enrolling,’ I’ll arrange to have your special admission processed at the same time, Noah-ssi.”
Soyoung-ssi would be delighted, I was sure. The two of them attending school together, it would certainly make for a dreamy picture. The ice cream had already disappeared, after what had felt like only a few spoonfuls. Noah checked the time, then pulled out a thermos from his crossbody bag. Ah, I should’ve saved the ice cream to have after my medication.
“Please don’t feel obligated to do so, as I’m only mentioning it since Noah-ssi already seemed to hold an interest.”
I said, taking the medicine that was handed to me.
“But would you be open to meeting with Team Leader Seok Shimyoung-ssi, perhaps?”
“By Team Leader Seok Shimyoung-ssi, you mean the Haeyeon Guild employee, sir? Seok Hayan-ssi’s uncle.”
“Yes. He’s particularly invested in Support-type Hunters, from what I’ve observed. For Noah-ssi to foray into championing the cause for Support-type Hunters on your own, will honestly be quite difficult. It’s only natural that it would feel impossible.”
When what he was aiming to accomplish was a type of social movement, it was undoubtedly going to be an arduous task. Many people had tried to tackle such issues–like race, gender, social hierarchy, and religion–over the course of time, but there were still many problems persisting to this day. Some places still even utilized caste systems, for example.
And they were difficult problems to offer a perfect solution to, as well. Without everyone growing up to be mature, emotionally competent adults, there would always be a slippery slope to inadvertent discrimination present, particularly when there was a distinctive gap in skill or ability involved. It was why certain topics of discussion needed to be revived again and again, to try and instill progress bit by bit.
“Rather than trying to accomplish something right off the bat, it may prove more effective to get some thorough research done beforehand, first. As Sohan-ssi mentioned, you still have plenty of time, Noah-ssi. And you’re at an age where you’re still learning, to boot.”
“...I’ll think it over, sir. I’m still not sure what exactly it is that I’m trying to accomplish. It may turn out that what I actually crave is simply the ‘recognition’ that accompanies being an outstanding individual. As though ‘if I manage to do this, then I’m sure to receive praise’–that sort of thing. …even though it’s childish.”
“Well, there’s nothing wrong with that. I expect that’s how it starts out for everyone, in fact. No one out there hates receiving praise, after all. ‘You did well,’ and ‘how amazing’–everyone likes hearing those kinds of words.”
As for Seok Shimyoung, well, I was certain he would be immensely taken by Noah, in any case. I was actually slightly worried that he might try to sweet talk him into transferring to Haeyeon, in fact.
“...if you do decide to meet with Team Leader Seok, please make sure to tell me about it in advance. He’s fairly personable, but has a bit of a black heart, you see. And avoid meeting with him on your own, if possible. You can go with either Myungwoo or myself, or even Haminie. Or maybe one of the people you met today, like Seo Kyunghoon-ssi or Lee Yooshin-ssi, or Min Sohan-ssi.”
I’d need to give him a talking to in advance, too. That he shouldn’t get any ideas in his head about coaxing the kid over for his own agenda. He wasn’t someone who would intentionally do something incondonable to me, but just in case.
- - -
As expected, it was decided that out of Haeyeon Guild’s HR division, Seok Shimyoung would serve as the point person for the new hires intended for the Rearing Facility. They would receive training there first, then make the transition over to the Rearing Facility; or to the company building, to be precise. Since there was plenty of room available within the building, I’d had a new office space freshly installed for them.
[ I confess I held a number of reservations, sir, but the first impression I’ve had of them has all been quite positive. ]
Seok Shimyoung said, going on to comment that ‘it was impossible to know the measure of a person’s character with only one interaction, but they appear to be of fine mettle nevertheless.’ Considering they were all people who had managed to stick it out by my side for a long time, that was only a given, of course. They were perseverent by default, unwavering in their principles, and wouldn’t be easily swayed by others’ words.
What more could you ask for, when it comes to competent persons. They were the finest examples of such a precious resource indeed.
‘Though I probably would have just thought them to be ordinary people, if I hadn't gone through the experiences I’d had with them.’
If I hadn’t gone through such hardships with them, had never lost them–I might have gone my whole life being none the wiser. To have those memories of my past that held such hurt and sorrow, return so transformed to me. It was a queer feeling.
“Our Sorokie’s grown a bit at last, hmm.”
While walking along the length of the first floor of the Rearing Facility, I stopped to give the baby reindeer’s white belly a rub. Sorokie enjoyed wandering around the inside of the building more than the exercise grounds, which had been configured to resemble a forest. Not that it meant he got more exercise; but the sound of his hooves clattering against on the flooring material was what appealed to him so much, it seemed.
- Baaa.
A fluffy black lamb flounced around Sorokie’s vicinity. It made it up quite high in the air, as though it were a little bouncy ball. They were different monsters, yes, but perhaps because they were both ungulates, they seem to get along quite well. Though it was mostly the little lamb trying to coax Sorokie into playing together, more than anything.
“I haven’t heard so much as a peep from your dad in quite a while. He did appear to be pretty busy lately, though.”
- Baaa.
“Should we just barge in, d’you think?”
- Baa.
He had a lot to be occupied with, what with the Dungeons suddenly changing and the situation with the lab, but communication with him was nearly impossible. And I’d already sorted things out with the Hunter Association, too. They’d wanted to do something like an official mount handing-off ceremony over live broadcast, but Section Chief Song-nim had turned it down. On account of being unable to accept a mount intended for him solely, he’d said.
“Unless we can drive home that you’re specifically his designated mount beast, with Section Chief Song-nim’s personality, he’ll just keep dodging the matter indefinitely. Maybe I’ll have to force the matter, after all.”
Since his personality also meant that, once it became his responsibility, he wouldn’t be able to bring himself to abandon it either due to his sense of duty. Once I had some free time on my hands, I’d have to plan an ambush.
I was attempting to haul Sorokie up when I felt a presence approaching. It was too early for it to be time for me to take my medication, so it wouldn’t have been Yoohyunie–who might it be, then.
“...huh?”
The person who had appeared before me was someone completely unexpected. A stunningly handsome face shone a smile my way.
“How have you been, Yoojinie hyung. It’s been quite a while, right?”
“Ah, yeah–yes.”
“Please, speak comfortably.”(3)
Bak Hayool said, smiling. …I’d completely forgotten about him. He was supposed to be in China, so had he’d returned, then. The person accompanying Bak Hayool was an A-rank Hunter from Seseung Guild. He was one of the people on guard duty rotation for the Rearing Facility this week; but why had he brought Bak Hayool in, I wondered.
“I escorted him inside as he mentioned he was on close terms with you, Director Han-nim, sir–and he was correct, it seems.”
“Eh? Ah, I suppose you could say that, in a fashion.”
Slightly startled, I looked at the A-rank with astonishment. You’d really just brought him inside because he said he was friendly with me, no questions asked? That was almost certainly against protocol, no? Usually, unless they already lived inside of the building, no one would be allowed within the building or past the connecting corridor without my being notified beforehand.
“Thank you for your help~”
Bak Hayool thanked the A-rank Hunter. It was no problem at all, the A-rank Hunter said, smiling happily. …was he a fan of Bak Hayool, I wondered. His demeanor towards him had struck me as being–how should I put it–excessively indulgent. You weren’t supposed to allow your personal feelings to impede your professional work, in any case. I eyed the A-rank Hunter warily as he turned to leave. I’d need to contact Seseung, and let them know that he didn’t seem to be a reliable enough person to be on guard duty…….
“I’ve been hearing a lot of news about you, hyung!”
“Um…….”
Bak Hayool interjected, suddenly striding right up to me. Wow, he was incredibly good-looking. I didn’t even recall him being this handsome before–living in China had really agreed with him, it seemed. His facial features really drew you in.
“I was a bit saddened when you didn’t contact me, hyung.”
“Ah, I’m sorry about that.”
“Well, that’s alright. Out of curiosity, no one should be coming by, right?”
“Huh?”
“There’s a lot of S-rank Hunters that hang around hyung. Is anyone supposed to come by?”
Bak Hayool asked, looking straight into my eyes. His eyes were beautiful, too. They had this kind of sparkling quality to them, just like pearls. I wondered if he was wearing lenses.(4) The slate-colored hair he now sported complimented him immaculately as well.
“My dongsaeng, he’s supposed to come by in about two hours or so.”
“Ah, is that so? So you’re generally by yourself for the most part, then.”
“Since there are a lot of people keeping an eye on me. There’s several high-ranked Hunters standing guard, and Noah-ssi may be absent at the moment, but there’s Peace, too.”
“By Peace, you mean that S-rank monster, right? Is it always with you?”
“Almost always. But a lot of the kids tend to be afraid of him, so when I come to check in on the baby monsters, I leave him at home sometimes.”
I trailed off while speaking and cocked my head, puzzled. Was it alright for me to be divulging all of this, actually. But it also didn’t seem like it would be a problem, surely.
“Hyung.”
His voice was really nice, too. Bak Hayool’s eyes curved in a faint smile.
“I can come see you again, right?”
“That’s, of course.”
“But I hope you won’t mention to the others that I stopped by. It can be kind of nerve-wracking, after all. There’s a lot of scary people around hyung.”
Was that so? Then again, it made sense that S-rank Hunters would seem intimidating to a non-Awakened. I… could probably omit mentioning his visit to anyone. Since it was just a casual visit from an acquaintance, anyway.
“Sure.”
“Thanks, hyung.”
I felt happy, seeing how pleased it seemed to make him. Something like that was probably fine, seeing as how I already felt somewhat guilty for having forgotten about him.
“Should I make you some tea, at least?”
“That’s alright. I’m afraid I can’t stay for long today. I’ll be back, though.”
Entreating me to keep his visit a secret once more, Bak Hayool turned to leave. Watching him depart, I felt a bit wistful for some reason. It was nice to have gotten to see him again, in any case.
- Baaa.
Standing there dazedly, I suddenly snapped back to reality at Sorokie’s bleating. Sorokie had gotten up at some point, and was now nibbling on the hem of my clothes. The baby lamb was industriously applying itself to the same task on the opposite side, tugging me in the other direction.
“...feels like I got bewitched for a moment, there.”(5)
I felt a bit odd, somehow. But he’d also kept his mouth closed so far, and he didn’t seem to be a bad guy. In fact, he kind of felt like the opposite. …right? Just then, my phone rang. It was Yerimie.
[ Mister! I’m all done with the raid, sir! ]
“Already?”
[ Yessir! And Blue’s doing great as well. ]
[ Kyawoo! ]
I’d anticipated that she’d finish quickly, but I didn’t realize it’d be this quick. Telling her she’d done a great job, I showered her in praise.
[ I’ll be returning tomorrow morning, sir, after finishing up an interview and a few other things here and there. Everything going alright, sir? Han Yoohyun’s taking good care of you, right? ]
“Of course. Nothing out of the ordinary. I’ll come and get you tomorrow.”
[ You don’t need to trouble yourself to, sir. ]
She might’ve said it was fine, but I could clearly picture the wide grin on her face. After exchanging a few more words, we ended the call. As the corridor suddenly fell silent, a chill seemed to pervade the air.
Something definitely felt strange, but I couldn’t manage to pinpoint the reason why.

(2) What honorifics would an older hoobae use with a younger sunbae? (i.e. bait for role-reversal play)
(3) yoojin starts off responding in casual language (‘아, 응’) then quickly lapses into formal language (‘네’) to repeat ‘yes,’ so bak hayool telling him that he can just ‘speak comfortably’ is telling him to forgo formality in speech to speak in a more ‘intimate’ register to feed into the artificial sense of closeness; as the younger of the two, bak hayool is still ‘speaking up’ to him in a formal (but casually friendly) way to yoojin, however

+(Q&A)
Q) 1. which among the following is how the ‘aesthetic boost caused by being of higher rank’ mechanic operates? ① the Hunter undergoing the aesthetic change has their actual physical traits subtly altered (physical appearance correction) ② the Hunter receiving the aesthetic boost actually retains their original features, but others who see them begin to perceive their looks in a more favorable light (not a cognition manipulation Skill, but has a similar effect) ③ other option 2. Crescent Moon is said to be naturally beautiful in appearance, but to also possess a unique charm(special ability) that earns her unconditional ‘positive regard’ from others as well. are there cases where a Hunter’s Skill can mimic this sort of trait? additionally, i was curious whether sung hyunjae, who is tied to Crescent Moon, also possesses this kind of characteristic (or Skill)~ A) 1. ① is the answer. Awakening above a certain rank threshold triggers changes not only in appearance, but in physiology as well. as mana becomes present, one’s body begins to undergo a transformation affected by both rank, as well as the idiosyncrasies of their special traits/affinities. while ‘evolving’ into a body that is more sturdy and well-balanced, one of the components that is also affected is facial symmetry, which becomes more harmonious and distinct(chiseled). for those who were ‘well-balanced’ to begin with, it tends not to change much. particularly in the case of the born s-ranks, it’s safe to say that they remain nearly identical from where they’d started. because there are cases of more ‘dramatic’ changes occurring, however, it’s widely believed that ‘Awakening = automatic appearance boost.’ but most people do to tend to receive a slight boost, in fact^^ 2. bak hayool is such a case. as a result of Crescent Moon’s influence, he was able to cultivate the ‘appearance boost + likeability’ Skill. it’s also a trait attributed to ‘Dreams.’ sung hyunjae possesses a similar charm, true, but it’s the result of both innate and accumulated effects (from being ‘reincarnated’ several-fold), rather than being a trait of Crescent Moon’s. additionally, due to his Fairy Dragon attribute, han gyeol is also capable of manifesting a similar ability.

once reyna starts making content with her dads, jooha doesn't feel envious of the spotlight on her at all, but he is quite jealous at how it means she's allowed to be seen with them more often than he is. he doesn't throw 'tantrums' over it in the same way reyna does whenever something doesn't go her way, but he does have a bit of a meltdown after he begs and begs doyoung to take him to a museum and he just keeps getting told 'no' and to 'ask his eomma'
😖 My poor Jooha nooooo- We’ll fix this asap for him: Once the boys realize “oh shit we are being unfair and lowkey neglecting our son” they spring into action.
Jooha’s a bit surprised when Jaehyun picks him up from school one day and takes him to get snacks and hang out at the park. Jaehyun pushes Jooha on the swings. They sit on the grass together and eat snacks. They play tag (Jaehyun loses). And Jooha makes a new friend, so Jaehyun swallows his anxiety and decides to introduce himself to the parents who recognize him but are polite enough to play it off and compliment him for being such a great uncle by taking Jooha out for an evening.
Then a couple of days later, Taeyong knocks on Jooha’s door and asks if he can step away from his homework for a few minutes to see something cool, and Taeyong takes Jooha to a local market where there’s tons of small aquariums filled with giant squid and crabs and whatnot. Jooha understands that they’ll be used for food later so it doesn’t bother him to at least admire them for a bit. They get seafood pancakes for dinner lmao.
On the weekend, Doyoung takes Jooha to Hangang to get convenience store food and picnic beside the water as they watch sundown. Jooha gets to see all the bugs in the grass and watch the birds that fly overhead. Doyoung gets to hold Jooha in his lap when it gets dark enough, and he ends up carrying Jooha home because he falls asleep.
A week or so later, Mark takes Jooha to a library— Not a tourist one like COEX, but a real, gigantic library where Jooha can pick out books to read for hours on end as they sit in a secluded corner together. Mark’s reading poetry for lyric inspo, but every so often Jooha will poke his dad and ask what a certain word means in Korean. On their way home, they stop by a bookstore— Mark puts on a mask and lifts his hood— so that Jooha can buy another series he’s been wanting to read.
Johnny takes Jooha to Lotte World. Since they’re family, Johnny can be seen out in a public space like that with his son who’s dressed up in a costume, a bright smile on his face, excitement coarsing through his veins as they go on their next ride together. Johnny expected that Jooha would get overstimulated by all the noise and people, but Jooha has a blast. Having a guide and security help them through parts of the park and skip the lines was probably why Jooha didn’t get overstimulated.
During a break from school, Yuta takes Jooha with him to Tokyo, a rare thing since that’s always been the daddy-daughter trip Yuta and Reyna share together. But this time Yuta wants to spend time with his son. They go on hikes, visit temples, walk through museums, etc. Jooha’s whole world expands during that trip, and he feels so loved with his dad that he ends up falling asleep cuddled in Yuta’s arms every night, which makes Yuta melt. He sends pictures of the trip to the boys and Ahri— “He looks like he’s having fun,” Ahri replies to a picture of Jooha at a temple. “He’s adorable,” Hyuck texts when he sees a picture of Jooha asleep on Yuta’s chest. “I’m glad you took him with you,” Johnny says at the end of the trip when they get home and Jooha’s running around in a t-shirt his dad bought for him at the airport.
Jungwoo takes Jooha to a small, quiet town in the South that’s along the water, somewhere that hasn’t been discovered by tourists yet. They collect seashells on the beach, and Jooha races back to the hotel to draw them in his notebook. They eat all kinds of foods Jooha’s never tried before— And they discover that Jooha’s not a fan of most of them. That’s okay. At least he tried. Jungwoo surprises his son with a kite one afternoon, so they spend their time out in the sun, flying the kite together, both of them laughing when the wind dies out and the kite crashes into the water. Jungwoo chases Jooha up and down the shoreline, both of them laughing loudly, and when Jungwoo catches his son, he scoops Jooha up then gives him a piggy-back ride to the hotel.
Haechan’s so busy he’s struggling to find time to be with either of his kids. He’s trying his best to even make it home most nights….. and he’s usually failing at that anyhow. The best he can do is one night when he gets home late, he arrives with his favorite kind of ice cream that he knows Jooha likes too. It’s late, way past everyone’s bedtime, all the adults cuddled up in someone’s bed, the kids fast asleep before they have to go to school the following morning. Hyuck stops by Doyoung’s room to kiss him and Ahri on the cheeks before he goes to Jooha’s room. “Shh, it’s just me, buddy.” Jooha whines tiredly and sits up, “Oppa?” “I brought something for you. Do you wanna see?” Jooha nods and takes his dad’s hand, following Hyuck downstairs to the dining room where Haechan sets up the ice cream. “Don’t tell eoma, okay? It’s our secret.” Jooha nods and excitedly tries to climb up into a chair, but instead, Hyuck pulls him onto his lap so that they can eat together. He asks Jooha about school, if the bullies have left him alone, if he has a crush on anyone. He asks how hanging out with his dads the past few weeks has been. Jooha eats the ice cream happily while replying earnestly. “Oppa, can I go with you and daddy on your next tour?” Hyuck hesitates, “What made you think of that?” “I never get to hang out with you…… But maybe if I went to work with you, we’d get to talk all the time.” Hyuck can’t promise that for obvious reasons, but it’s a huge wake up call that he needs to try harder to spend more time with his family.

Alright it's plushy time!
Here's a photo of all of them together! The only one not here is a little keychain bulbasaur on my bag. It's hard to see all of them well here so let's take a closer look for introductions!
From left to right: Adventurer Pepe, Ardenweald Pepe, IJsbeer (literally ice bear), Danny, Donna, Donny. Apart from Ardenweald Pepe these all stay next my pillow at all times. I've had IJsbeer and the ducklings since I was barely a toddler!
Pokemon, part 1. The Hitmonlee with a Ditto face is called Chimken, the rest just go by there Pokemon names. The Meowth is a little fingerpuppet! All my pokemon plushies are a mix of official merch, stuff found at my local comic store, and older plushies I've had for a while and don't remember the origin of.
Pokemon, part 2. The bigger guys! The big Bulbasaur is called Squimnch. The Rayquaza is the oldest official pokeplush I have. The Celesteela is by far the most expensive plush I have in price, and it's also my tallest! I fricking love her! The Tepig has a fun gimmick where you can turn him inside out so it becomes a pokeball.
The remaining fun stuff! Left to right, top: Raven King, Copia, Asmund the plague doctor, Monji the dust cloud, Mothi the mothman
Bottom: Jerry the skull, Maantje the moon, Augustus Gustavus the Third aka Gus the snail, Pukkel the pimple, Nyangko the cat, Brian the brain, Reddi the robin.
Raven, Asmund and Mothi are all squishables, Reddi has a little sound thing in it that activates by squeezing her but it's loud so I never do. Gus, Nyangko and Monji are all from South Korea! Gus I got at the Coex aquarium. He was so ugly I loved it. Nyangko is actually meant to be a little wrist support thing for when you use the computer but I didn't like that feeling. Monji is special. Celesteela may have cost me the most in price but Monji was only available at a pop-up store in a mall just outside of Seoul for a short time and I happened to be there at the right time! He is technically the official mascot of the group Monsta X but they haben't really done much with that for the past few years.
Anyway that's all of my plushies! I rotate so I'm cuddling a different one every night ^^

230115 — Taeyong bbl update
Have you been well ?
It's night again here.
Is it Sunday there? What time is it ?
Oh you're eating lunch.
This tour to keep you entertained I've been constantly taking pictures. Wherever I go, I take pictures of each scenery through my eyes.
Together
I think it would be nice to learn the different cultures of each other. Also to show, how to say, the latest news of what I've been doing. ㅎㅎ
Today l went to the aquarium
How do i put it, is it because it's friday here ? But there were
over 100000 people
Also i tried
cola ice cream
Its where vanilla ice cream meets with cola. How do i put it, it looks like it's a very strange foam ㅋㅋ…. Honestly … somehow shiny
Was it brownie pusher or pasher ….
I don't really remember but i wanted to eat it, but it was out of stock …
I shared it on my insta story but the fish tank was so pretty. It was so fascinating that I could see tropical fish so well.
There were a lot of marsh snails there too.
I remember the Amazon puffer fish ?
The piranha is amazing too. It's really big ...
The crocodile too, it was fascinating to see the crocodiles belly ㅎㅎ
The belugas were so beautiful and cute, how should i put it, the skin was very smooth and they suited mother nature best.
Spider crab was very big in the deep sea side also, it was scary there ㅋㅋ
I like the coex aquarium in Korea too ㅋㅋㅋ
I'm slowly going to sleep. I'll share a lot with you when I go here and there during the tour. Please look forward to it.
Fighting for the rest of the tour.
Passion, passion, passion !!!

Volume 6
The Departure and Home
I’ve been home for almost a week now and everyone has been bothering me to finish this series off with one last volume.
Sunday was the last full day of peace we would all have before saying farewell to Ewha and Seoul. Grace and I decided to save going to Gangnam for last because of a very long awaited viewpoint we wanted to go to (I’ll reveal in a bit).
To start off the day, we headed to Hongdae for brunch. There we stopped at this place called Rachel’s Kitchen and had the cutest spread of souffle pancakes and drinks. I remember when Vivian and I along with our other friend went to a souffle pancake cafe during winter break. It was good, but not super worth the wait and price. These pancakes however were delicious and definitely deserved my money. I was also just excited to finally live out my dreams of having ice cream for breakfast.
I got melon pancakes with melon pieces, melon whipped cream, and vanilla ice cream, as well as a strawberry latte which was literally strawberries, milk, and strawberry ice cream.
With our bellies full of wonderfulness, we took the subway all the way to the Gangnam district. I was searching up what to do there and read about this street called Kpop Road. The website said it was in a dense shopping district and that sometimes idols stopped by. That sounded quite appealing to us so we decided to go.
It was pretty underwhelming and disappointing though. Kstar Road was basically a project to honor famous kpop groups through statues along the road. There were no kpop related stores or anything.
In fact, it was filled with all the high-end, designer stores instead. The exteriors of the buildings were very nice to look at, but there was nothing for us there which was saddening.
After deciding there was nothing to do in that area, we took the subway back to where the Starfield COEX mall was because apparently that was where the viewpoint we wanted to see was. It actually isn’t even a viewpoint, but Grace and I thought it would be funny to pay a visit to the infamous Gangnam Style Statue. Yes, there is an actual Gangnam Style Statue. Other people think it’s stupid, but I think it makes sense especially with all that Psy has done for the kpop industry. He walked so groups like BTS could run.
Grace wanted a pic with the hands doing the hands in front of the hands doing the hands, but there were a lot of people there when we arrived. Unsurprisingly though, they were all foreigners. It was really cringe watching them take solo, couple, and family pictures especially since they would pose in a way that looked like mid dance, but funny at the same time. Eventually I got Grace to get up there. Fun fact, Gangnam Style plays on repeat in the area.
Eager to get out of the rain, we ventured back to the COEX mall and decided to pay the aquarium a visit since we didn’t get to go last time. Unfortunately it was extremely crowded and packed with screaming kids, so we decided to walk around and get dinner first. Before that though, we saw this vending machine that dispensed various ice cream bars. It looked cool so we treated ourselves.
I don’t know how we didn’t learn our lesson from the mall food last time, but we didn’t and sat down at this Middle Eastern place. I wanted this smoked salmon pita, but they said it wouldn’t be ready until thirty minutes later so I was forced to pick something else on the spot. Funnily enough though, they took so long that it reached the time the pita would’ve been done at which was kind of dumb. Grace was upset because she purposely picked this chickpea pasta because it didn’t say chicken or beef in front of it like the other menu options but still showed up with meat.
My meal was actually not bad, but the meat took more chewing than I would’ve liked.
We only had an hour after that until the aquarium closed so we rushed on over. I’m not sure how they managed to fit one inside a mall, but I guess it’s how they have the biggest underground mall in the world.
We were greeted with prairie dogs which were definitely the cutest animals inside. I’m also not sure how they thought prairie dogs fit the aquarium scene. They were super cute though.
We also saw turtles, otters, and various fish.
I wanted to see the penguins the most, but of course our mall food had very conveniently caught up with me and suddenly I didn’t feel so good. We barely got to look at the penguins before I suggested we go back home because I was also just tired. The instructions given by our Naver Map app were contradictory every time and it was getting annoying.
Monday rolled around and I had to meet up with my classmates from both classes before the farewell ceremony to set up our art pieces that were going to be displayed. I didn’t want to show my painting stuff especially since our teacher was making us show more than one thing and I just wanted to pack it all up. Here’s a pic with some of other people’s works though.
The farewell ceremony had a lot more happening than the welcoming. We had several performances from students who were taking Korean traditional music and dance. Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures or videos. We were given certificates of completion though and I snapped this with all of our names in it.
We mostly went back to packing since most of us would be leaving the next day. Some people were even leaving that day so there weren’t many people walking around. Bianca, Grace, and I decided to have one more night to hang out and enjoy our time together so we first got dinner at this tteokbokki place.
We knew we wanted to do karaoke but we were pretty stuffed. Along the way we stopped at multiple photobooth stores to take a couple goofy pictures. I’m not kidding when I say there are more photobooth shops along the streets than anything else. Seoul is run by photobooths and cafes. And they’re not those janky booths they have in arcades in the US either. They have all sorts of accessories like headbands with animal ears, crowns, hats, funky glasses, and props. Some of them even have community hair straighteners, curlers, and perfume.
It was pretty fun taking dumb pics with them. We bought some drinks and snacks to enjoy before karaoke where we spent 2.5 hours. Grace carried for sure and seemed to be having a blast. She knew most of the kpop songs we picked and shouted confidently even though none of us knew a speck of Korean. I had to of course document every time we received a score 100 which was more than we expected.
We stayed out pretty late until midnight. I had to say bye to Bianca until school started because she was going back home to China for the first time in two years and was leaving through a different airport. Grace was going to my airport so I decided to tag along even if it meant we had to leave at the crack of dawn (her flight was at 10 something).
After an insane amount of time and struggle, we finally managed to get to her gate. Neither of us were happy at this point and wanted nothing more than to go home. I sat with her until she boarded the plane which was nice but also sad when I was alone and had to go to my own gate.
The plane food was pretty good this time too, but I don’t think it can top the treatment I got on the way to Korea. I noticed that the flight attendants this time were real skimpy with the drink portions. The cups were way smaller and filled very ungenerously so that kind of sucked. I was also not super eager to eat breakfast since the options were omelet and porridge. Eggs on planes are a big no-no for me, but I saw what the porridge option looked like. I did like that they gave me fresh fruit on the side. I’d been deprived of fresh produce. I love my nightly bowl of fruit and I wasn’t getting that in Seoul.
Everyone keeps asking me how my trip was and if I miss Korea. I’m going to be honest, I did really enjoy all my experiences, but I am very happy to come back. It feels so much more normal, but that’s probably just me not liking to go out of my comfort zone. I’m not saying Korea was uncomfortable in a bad way, but it definitely was not something I could’ve done without a lot of prep. So I’m proud of myself.
Anyways, I’m happy to be back because I get to see my silly dog and friends. I feel like I lost a lot of time to hang out with people I don’t get to see during the school year.
To make up for lost time, Vivian, our other friend, and I took it upon ourselves to watch the new Barbie movie. We even got the Barbie ice cream from Coldstone.
And just like that my normal schedule picked back up like nothing ever happened. I’m back doing slave work for my unpaid internship which is boring, but at least I get to have fun on the weekends at my museum job. We saw what seemed like a stray cat this time and went out to give it water and pets. It’s very cute and friendly.
Long story short, it was a fun trip and I won’t be forgetting it any time soon, but as with any trip I’ve gone on, home is the best place for me. Traveling as an introvert is challenging.
To end this series, I have a few thanks to give. Thanks to my parents for funding this trip because I make no money. Thanks to my boyfriend who suggested I blog even though I know he’s only read the first volume so far. Thanks to my best friend for telling me she read all of the updates and for existing. And thanks to everyone else who had to make a Tumblr account to read this because Tumblr is stupid like that.
That’s it from me. See you next time maybe.

Seoul | Starfield Coex Mall
The rest of the day was planned by Josh and Alexis! It was nice to take a rest from being the chief trip planner and fun to see places and do activities I wouldn’t have necessarily planned for myself. Before leaving the Myeongdong area we got breakfast of overpriced bakery items and fancy hawaiian themed espresso drinks at minimalistic Luft Coffee next to the hotel. The front desk helped us get a taxi to the Starfield Coex mall in a completely different part of Seoul. This part of Seoul felt even more modern or western than the Myeongdong neighborhood. The area around the mall was being set up for a K-Pop music festival and we stopped to watch one of the groups rehearse before finding the Gang Nam Style statue.
Much of the mall was underground, and we stopped in a toy store, a bookstore where I bought a cook book to bring home, and of course Starfield Library, a three story bookstore with sky high walls of decorative books. The mall was huge and home to a walking track, cinema, aquarium, hotels, and of course lots of food options. We got lunch at a small vegan restaurant and Josh could finally order off a menu to his heart’s content. The White Truffle Tteokbokki I got was simply divine - chewy rice noodles in a garlic potato and truffle sauce, with loads of enoki and oyster mushrooms on top. Alexis got the Tofu Katsu, and everything was presented so nicely, mine even had edible flowers on it. They had lemon kombucha too which was a welcome treat. It didn’t seem like there was much else to do or see around the mall so after a quick drone stop in a rare fly zone we took the subway to another part of town and our next destination: Seoul Botanic Park.

Coex Aquarium
Je me suis enfin décidée à aller à l'aquarium !
On t’as jamais dit que t’étais beau gosse, toi ?
C'était dans “I can hear your voice”. Du coup, j'y étais ! Bon...
